Twenty-Two: Weeping

Jakeline was getting ready, the war was won and she didn't have to worry. All she was waiting for was Steve. She saw one of the soldiers from where he had gone and he looked broken. She felt something terrible had happen.

"Sergeant." She said. The Sergeant turned to her and he paled. "Do you know where Steve is?"

"I'm sorry, he's gone." He said. Jakeline covered her mouth.

"No." she said, the Sergeant moved away and she knew that he was not lying. She ran for it, turning into her spirit form and she flew away.

It took hours for her to arrive, but Jakeline did and the temperature went down but she didn't know. Tears were running down her face.

"Jakeline." Old Man Winter said, but before he was able to say anything, Jakeline went toward him and wrapped her arms around his waist crying her eyes out. Old Man Winter wrapped his arms around her.

"Dear, dear what is going on?" Old Man Winter asked.

"He….he…oh grandpapa." Jakeline told him and wept. Old Man Winter raised her and she just wrapped her arms around his neck. Old Man Winter let her weep. She wouldn't stop and Icicle had to come over and Old Man Winter asked.

"The war is over." Icicle told him. "It was not without sacrifices."

Old Man Winter understood, he knew of Jakeline's relationship with the human soldier. He felt terrible about it, knowing the feelings about losing those that you love.

"I am terrible sorry." Old Man Winter said.

"It hurts." Jakeline sobbed.

"I wish I could take your pain away but I cannot." Old Man told her.

2 months later

"Oh Jakeline." Loki said coming toward his daughter. Old Man Winter had explained everything and he moved toward her.

"Hello, daddy." She told him. Loki petted her hair.

"Your grandfather told me about what happened?"

"Is this how you felt when Mom died?" Jakeline asked Loki looked at his heart-broken daughter and he wanted to lie but knew he couldn't not at the moment.

"Yes." He told her. "I cannot promise you that it will get better."

"We were going to…"

"I know, I can see the ring." Loki told her. Jakeline just continued to cry, it hurt too much to stop.

"Your Grandfather is wondering if you will be bringing snow."

"No." Jakeline told him.

"Jakeline you will have to come back out of your room."

"I'm grieving let me grieve." Jakeline told him. Loki kissed her forehead.

"I will have to leave and I won't be able to return for a long time."

"Alright, please be careful."

"Please come out." Loki told her kissing her forehead.

Jakeline would stay grieving for a long time. She would just sent walk around the Winter Forest looking lost but no visits she made and no one would get her to come out.
