Theme Song

You're on your journey with your friends from the start (shows the group walking down a road together laughing)
There will be bonding and broken hearts (Owen puts his arm over Brooklyn's shoulder)
The power inside will make us strive... (Charizard starts to Mega Evolve)
For greatness! (Split screen of Owen at the Kalos League and Daniel and Brooklyn at the Grand Festival)
Put in the work and you will go far (Haunter evolves, Gengar's face is covered in shadows and she throws a Shadow Ball at the camera)
But what happens when we're torn apart? (Ariel and Blaziken look up at the moon)
A threat will rise, but we'll realize (Frank and Dragonite squaring off with Owen and Charizard)
We can do it together... Pokemon! (Group stands together with their Pokemon)

Well well well, it looks like I'm putting up a second chapter of the day and I'm thinking about posting two more, because I can't focus on studying for math! So, last chapter Daniel caught an Aerodactyl and Axew, who are going to be like Banjo-Kazooie in a way, so that'll be interesting, but let's start focusing on what should be the most important things of this arc: the main characters! This chapter will be about (as you guessed it) Owen explaining the real reason for his visiting Kalos, and there'll be some minor responses from other characters as well. Let's get to it!

SomeGuy (guest): It's funny how I agree with everything you point out in your reviews, haha. (Brace yourself for a lame excuse) The reason for the random capture chapter is because there was a slight miscommunication, which was completely my fault as I hadn't realized it until a week ago. Daniel was supposed to join the group way earlier than he did, so he was supposed to have caught both Aerodactyl and Axew by Lumiose at the very latest, but I pushed his joining the group off until the end of the Coumarine Arc. And thanks! Exams haven't been too bad, but I probably failed one of the tests :/

Defender31415: Yeah, Daniel's going to have a really cool team, so thank MCMXCV for the submission and everything in regards to his team

Emboar-Man (guest): It's kind of confirmed, but not really. I'd like to tell you exactly what I mean by this, but it'll be answered next chapter :) And I like giving some hype-building spoilers, such as Tyrantrum evolving, Gastly evolving, and some more to come. I don't think I'll give anymore evolution spoilers, but there will be some regarding characters

MCMXCV: Aerodactyl and Axew are definitely going to be a handful, but I'm sure Daniel will be fine ;) And Ariel is probably my favorite character in the entire series (with Owen being third), so she'll be getting a lot of spotlight throughout the rest of the story. And I never thought of everyone being similar, but that does make sense considering how long they've been traveling together

"I think this is good enough," Ariel said as she finished putting her tent together with a look of slight disappointment. The girl turned to see the others sitting around in a circle with a fire burning while their tents had already been set up. Blaziken laughed at the annoyed look on his trainer's face as she walked over, and he moved to sit next to her while the five other trainers sat with their Pokemon, except Eddy.

"How long do you think we'll stay here? I know we have the contest coming up and your gym battle, Owen, but what else is there to do?" Brooklyn asked around as the fire began to crack, prompting Chespin and Pikachu to grab some sticks and throw them on the fire.

"I don't have a clue. Is there anything interesting around here, Eddy?" Owen asked the Kalosian.

"Not that I know of. To be honest, I never left Lumiose City, so that's about all I know," Eddy answered sheepishly while rubbing the back of his neck. Owen and the others laughed at the response except for Ariel, drawing attention to the quiet girl.

"There's a factory that produces Pokeballs," she informed the others, who all looked around in excitement while cheering. Their Pokemon were also happy to hear the news, but Ariel continued speaking. "It's a pretty creepy place known for a huge tree in the middl of it, and a lot of kids died there, apparently." Silence fell over the group as the bleak images of death leaked into their minds, but they were shaken away by Cindy clapping to draw everyone's attention.

"So, does anyone want to play a game?" The others shrugged and nodded, though Ariel and Brooklyn were reluctant to join. "Okay, it's pretty simple. All you have to do is talk about what you did before you started traveling in Kalos, and why you're here." The girl looked around, waiting for the others to speak up, but they didn't. "Fine, I guess I'll go first."

"This should be good," Brooklyn muttered while rolling her eyes at Cindy, who stuck her tongue out in response.

"Originally I grew up in Johto, New Bark Town, specifically, but my dad got relocated for his job, so we moved to Sinnoh. I was supposed to get my starter from Professor Rowan, but my parents thought it was too dangerous for me to travel on my own, so they told me I had to wait until I was sixteen. Well, I didn't like that idea, so I left home."

The girl paused and looked around at the others, all of whom were listening except for Ariel, who was staring at the sky.

"So I took all the money I could find and I got on a plane for Kalos. I didn't really think the entire thing through, so I didn't have any money for food or water, so I had to stay at the Pokemon Center in Aquacorde Town, and that's where I met Litleo and Owen."

"Damn, that's crazy," Daniel muttered while looking at Cindy, who nodded and patted Litleo on the head. The fire and normal type purred at the attention before falling asleep at his trainer's feet, making Cindy smile as she looked around for someone else to speak up.

"I'll go next," Eddy said while raising his hand. "I group up in Kalos in Lumiose City, normal family environment and all. But when I got older and started going to school, my parents decided I was going to go to boarding school in Cyllage City. On the bus ride there, we took a detour and stopped in a park. I decided that I didn't want to go to some crappy boarding school for the next five years and not work with Pokemon, so I left and went to Parfum Palace during the tournament you guys were at," Eddy stated while pointing at Owen, Brooklyn, and Cindy.

"How long had it been since you ran away when you met us?" Owen asked the eight year old.

"A day or two. It wasn't long at all. I'm pretty sure my parents still think I'm at the boarding school," Eddy responded with a laugh before looking for someone else to go. "What about you, Daniel? Why are you in Kalos?"

"Well, I'm from Snowpoint City in Sinnoh, and I love the place with all my heart, but I don't know if I'm going to go back. Everyone in my family specializes in ice types and they're well respected by the rest of Sinnoh, but I never really liked ice types. Whenever I'd turn on the TV I'd see Cynthia, the champion of Sinnoh, and her Garchomp beat everyone they faced, and I started to love dragon types."

"Is that why you have Dragonair?" Brooklyn inquired.

"Kind of. You see, I was walking my dad's Abomasnow one day, and there was this Pokemon hunter who was beating a Dratini, so I intervened and stopped him. When he left, I rushed the Dratini to the Pokemon Center, and when he was all healed he refused to leave my side," Daniel said while looking at Dragonair, who was nodding at every word. The dragon type slithered over to his trainer and hugged Daniel before slithering back to Dedenne, who was trying to talk to Aerodactyl and Axew, but neither of the Pokemon were responding.

"So what happened when your parents saw Dragonair?" Cindy quizzed.

"They told me to release him, but I didn't. So, they kicked me out of the house." Daniel took a deep breath after mentioning the interaction he had, but he continued the story. "I figured Kalos would be the perfect opportunity to start over, so Dragonair and I sailed from Sinnoh to Unova, which was where he evolved, and then we flew to Kalos."

"That's horrible that your parents would just disown you like that," Brooklyn said to Daniel, trying to sympathize with the older boy, who simply laughed off the comment.

"It's no big deal. I'm happier without them. Now I can catch whatever Pokemon, dragon or not, that I want."

Once again, silence fell over the group of six, but Brooklyn was the one to speak up.

"Uhm... I'm from Unova, and I competed in the Grand Festival over there. I traveled with Owen at the tail-end of our time there, and after the Unova League ended, we went our separate ways," Brooklyn started, her heart racing. She then turned to Owen and whispered something into his ear, making his eyes open wide before nodding. "So when I heard from Fate, who traveled with Owen in Unova, that Owen went to Kalos, I decided to follow him."

"Aww," Cindy said under her breath, blushing when Brooklyn shot her a look that said 'I heard that'.

"I mean, my main goal is to compete in the Grand Festival, but he's the reason I came here," Brooklyn concluded while resting her head on Owen's shoulder with a smile. "So, what about you, Owen?" Brooklyn asked while Charizard and Blaziken began laughing about something. Owen froze up for a second, and Charizard realized. The two exchanged concerned glances at each other before sharing a mental conversation, something that wasn't foreign to them.

"Should I tell them the truth? I mean, I've already dragged them into the whole mess with Team Grim, they deserve to know," Owen thought.

"Whatever you decide to do, I'll support it fully," Charizard thought before nodding at his trainer, who took a deep breath before looking around at the others. They were all waiting anxiously, including Ariel, and he began.

"If you listened to Brooklyn, you know I competed in the Unova League, where I lost in the championship," Owen said before cracking his back. "Well, when I went back home I thought I was done traveling to different regions in an attempt to become the champ, so I didn't come here with plans of becoming the champion, and I still don't. After about a week of being home, I found out..." Owen paused, trying to muster up the courage to say what had been weighing on his mind for months. He felt a hand rest on his back and looked over to see Brooklyn's eyes staring into his, full of concern.

"Rawr," Charizard muttered to Owen, who nodded.

"I found out I was adopted, and that my birth parents lived in Kalos." Owen looked around, and nobody said a word. Even the Pokemon stopped talking, and they all stared at the fifteen year old. "I'm only collecting badges to get on TV in hopes of my parents seeing me."

Brooklyn quickly embraced the boy for what seemed to be an eternity, and his Kalosian Pokemon looked at each other in shock before moving away to talk about the confession. They stopped, however, when Charizard motioned for them to come back, and they did.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Daniel said while patting Owen on the back, who thanked him for his words.

"So, Ariel, what about you?" Owen asked while looking over at the girl who hadn't said a word the entire time. She glanced over at Blaziken and shook her head, but the fire type didn't listen to her.

"We came here because-"

"Blaziken, shut up," Ariel barked. The fire type's translator stopped flashing, and he remained silent while his trainer stood up and looked around at the others. "We came here because Team Grim has been a thorn in my side for a long time, and I didn't want to put up with it anymore, so we're here to stop them. Now let's go, Blaziken," Ariel ordered as she began to walk away. Blaziken bowed in sorrow to the others before running after his trainer, leaving everyone else in confusion.

"She's not telling the truth," Eddy muttered while shaking his head sadly. "We all just told her why we came here, and she didn't say anything."

"What'd you expect? She's trouble, and I don't think we should travel with her," Brooklyn responded. "I don't have a problem with Blaziken, though. He seems really nice."

"I think we need to give her some time," Owen opined as he stood up and sat down next to Charizard before his six other Pokemon sat around him.

"I don't know, Owen. Sure, she helped you out back in Lumiose City, but I don't get why she's traveling with us if she's not going to try socializing," Daniel replied. "She's kind of intimidating."

000

"Ariel, what are you doing? We have to go back to camp," Blaziken said to the fifteen year old while she leaned up against a tree. Ariel was staring down at Laverre City, lost in thought, though Blaziken didn't know why.

"Don't ever tell them why we're really here," she grumbled. "You're putting us and them in danger if you say anything." Ariel turned and glared daggers at Blaziken, a look he knew all too well. Even during their travels, years before this, Ariel would still get angry about stupid things.

"They're going to have to know eventually. We can't keep them in the dark forever," Blaziken shot back, slamming his foot on the ground to add emphasis.

"I don't plan on sticking around much longer, so they won't have to get involved. Just don't bring it up to them, okay?" the trainer asked rhetorically as she pushed her Pokemon out of the way to walk back to camp. The fire type rolled his eyes before staring out at the city just like his trainer had done, and a sudden feeling appeared in his gut.

"I won't tell them, but you will."

Well, I finished that way quicker than I expected. So, now that you know everyone's story, except Ariel's, the group will have somewhat of a different dynamic. Also, Owen told everyone that he was adopted, which will be brought up by his Pokemon (and that will cause a bit of a problem). There's nothing left for me to say, so till next time, peace out.

Next Chapter: "Framed": Team Grim continues to take steps towards gaining total control of Kalos when they release a video of Owen, Ariel, and the others destroying Lumiose City. How will the public react? How will the group react?
