Hey! So I just want to clarify some things about Derek and Avery's relationship. Although they kissed, it wasn't a romantic kiss at all. Derek and Avery are friends and I plan on having them remain that way, at least for the time being. Yes there is some flirting between them but again, they are friends. Derek and Avery are always going to be looking out for each other and I wanted to cement that friendship by him being her first kiss, that way she would never forget him. Because I believe Derek is worth remembrance even though most people dismiss him as an insignificant and cold character I love him. Enjoy the chapter!

Avery has never been the super outgoing bubbly girl who gets the boy, that was always her sister, Quinn. Avery on the other hand is just the opposite. She's always been awkward and shy and she stumbles over her words and herself a lot.

And that was all ok. She was never the one to chase boys anyways. Sure there were always little crushes and then there was Jake, but that was just because of Lydia. Other then that, Avery was fine with being forever alone. In fact it was encouraged—less drama. But now, waking up in Stiles arms, nothing feels more important to Avery than being with him right now.

Stiles has one arm draped around her and Avery has her head resting on his chest with an arm holding him close. Avery looks over at the clock with butterflies in her stomach and reads 6:32.

So much for you sleeping downstairs, Avery thinks to herself as she untangles herself from Stiles.

Avery grabs the jacket that Stiles has hanging on the back of his chair and slides it over her bandaged arms. She then makes her way downstairs and realizes no one else is awake, so she gets to work. She walks into the kitchen and takes out everything she needs to make a decent breakfast. To be honest there's not a lot, but that's what she expected being in a house with only two boys. She makes some scrambled eggs and bacon and is lucky enough to find some pancake mix with a reasonable expiration date so she makes pancakes as well.

"I didn't even know our kitchen worked like this."

Avery jumps slightly not realizing that someone was behind her. She turns to see the Sheriff in full uniform with a smile on his face.

"Well, it was brutal, but I managed to forage enough stuff to feed you boys something decent." Avery fixes up a plate with some of everything on it and passes it over.

"This looks great, Avery."

"Thanks…" Avery begins when Stiles stumbles into the kitchen with a huge grin on his face.

"I smell food," Stiles looks half asleep, but manages to take the plate Avery offers him.

"Stiles, say thank you. I mean, really, how old are you?" The Sheriff takes a seat at the table shaking his head.

"Five and half," Stiles replies with a mouth full of food.

Avery cleans up the small mess she made and just as she finishes her phone goes off quietly in the jacket pocket that she stole from Stiles. Avery pulls out the phone and checks the text she just received from Allison.

Hey! Come out with Lydia and me today! It'll be fun, it read.

Ok! When and where, Avery asked.

Just meet me at my house in three hours, Allison responded.

Sounds good! See you there, the younger girl texted, ending the conversation.

Avery fixes herself a plate and takes a seat at the table with everyone else. She looks up from her plate to see Stiles inhaling his breakfast and the Sheriff reading over more papers. In all, it's a normal dinning experience at the Stilinski house.

"Thank you, Sheriff, for letting me stay here last night." Avery say's finally breaking the silence.

"Oh, you're welcome, Avery… When do your parents get back?"

"Tomorrow," Avery nods with a small smile plastered on.

"So you're going to spend the night alone?" Sheriff lays his paper down on the table next to his plate.

"Nah, she can stay here tonight," Stiles says between mouthfuls.

"I was going to offer without you butting in." Sheriff hits Stiles over the head lightly then turns back to Avery with a smile on his face. "So, Avery do you want to spend the night here?"

"Um… Yes, please. It would be a lot better then going home to an empty house." She looks down at her plate hoping Stiles won't see her blushing.

"On one condition…"Avery and Stiles' head shoot up from their plate and focuses on the Sheriff as he continues, "different rooms means different rooms. So, Stiles, you can sleep downstairs tonight."

"Oh… right… about last night, I accidentally fell asleep when we were talking. Sorry about that." If Avery wasn't blushing before she definitely is now.

"Yeah, dad it didn't mean anything, it was just an accident. We just fell asleep talking about—I don't even remember; that's how unimportant it is. I mean I like Lydia, you know that." Stiles rambles through his words quickly, hurting Avery all the way through. Avery stands abruptly not able to sit at the same table as Stiles for another second.

"I just remembered I have to get home to feed Roxy, and I'm supposed to meet Allison in a bit so I should probably change." She scoops up the empty plates, and places them in the sink. "Um, I'll be back later." She throws on what she hopes is a convincing smile then realizes she forgot her keys in Stiles room.

She turns on her heels and runs up the stairs as fast as she can without making herself want to throw up. Apparently, she still hasn't fully recovered from her earlier injuries. She throws the door to Stiles room open and walks over to the desk were her keys lie. As she grabs the keys with a shaky hand she hears a voice behind her.

"Avery, is something wrong?" Stiles is standing in the doorway with his hands in his pockets, looking adorable yet again, but this time his cuteness hurts her.

"I don't really remember… I guess it was just that unimportant." She pushes past him keys in hand and tries to walk down the steps, but he stops her by grabbing her hand.

"Avery, wait. I didn't mean— it just came out…" She yanks her hand away before he can even finish his sentence.

"Stiles, you can stop trying to protect me. I got the message loud and clear." Avery's out the door in a matter of seconds with Stiles following close behind.

"Avery, you shouldn't be driving. You can barely walk, you lost too much blood and your cuts need to be checked." Stiles almost sounds like he's pleading for her not to leave him, and for a second the pain in his voice almost makes her change her mind… almost.

"I'll see you around, Stiles. Tell your dad I'd rather sleep at my house tonight." Avery jumps in the car and drives away faster then legally recommended, leaving Stiles alone in the driveway.

It takes Stiles a minute to realize what just happened, once he does though he turns on his heals and heads back inside.

"Uh, Avery's gone." Stiles says in disbelief to his dad.

"Yeah, I didn't need to be sheriff to get that one," his dad looks a hurt for him as he speaks.

"Was it something I said?" Stiles asks slowly, going through the conversation in his head.

"Yeah, I'm not and expert on women, but they tend to get mad when you say that what they say isn't important. You like her, don't you?" Stiles takes the seat next to his dad slowly

"I—I think so. What am I saying? Yes, yes I like her." It takes him a moment to get the words out but once he does he realizes that they are unbelievably true.

"Then don't let her go. Look son, I have to get to work, but try to fix things with Avery while you still can. She seems like a good person." With that Stiles dad gets up from the table and is out the door.

"She is." Stiles says to an empty room.

"I think I'm going crazy." That's the greeting Avery gets when Allison finally answers her door.

"Um, and why is that, may I ask? Or should I get a big guy with a big net down here?" Avery smiles lightly before being pulled into the house by Allison.

"Come on, lets go to my room. It's safe to talk there." Allison says and drags Avery up the steps and into her room.

"Ok, Norman. Are you going to kill me now?" Avery asks rubbing the wrist that Allison had in her iron grip.

"Norman?" Allison looks up at Avery confused.

"Norman Bates, the guy from Psycho… famous movie." Avery tries to keep explaining but knows it's not leading anywhere. "I don't know how we're friends. Continue with the argument on your sanity." Avery waves a hand, gesturing for her to continue.

"Ok. I just feel like my family's been lying to me but I'm not sure. I don't know I feel like everyone's been lying to me." She runs a hand through her hair and Avery knows this isn't a joke, something is really bugging Allison.

"Ok. I kind of have something to tell you." Allison's head whips up as Avery begins to reveal one of many secrets she has. "I—I found out that Lydia kissed Scott." Avery looks down at her hands as the last sentence leaves her lips.

"When?" Allison asks without a moment of hesitation.

"The day Scott hit Danny. I didn't want to tell you because I thought one of them should, but I guess they don't want to hurt you."

"If they didn't want to hurt me they wouldn't have kissed each other." Allison takes a seat on her bed and lets out a sigh.

"Look, I just wanted to be honest with you, but I think you should talk to Scott." Avery knows that she can't tell Allison everything; their not her secrets to reveal. Plus this is Scotts chance to make things right with Allison. Now, that everything is out in the open he can fix things, or at least use the whole kiss thing to cover up the rest of his lies.

"Why?" Allison asks with a confused look, jolting Avery back into the conversation and out of her own mind.

"Because, Allison, I know that you loved him and I know that he loved you. Sure he made a mistake or two, but you guys used to tell each other everything. Maybe he can make sense of all this in ways I can't." Avery shrugs hoping this is enough to push Allison towards Scott.

"Sure, why not?" Allison still looks really confused, but Avery on the other hand is ecstatic. Maybe there's hope to Scott and Allison after all.

Best wing women ever! Avery thinks to herself nodding and smiling the whole way through.

"Why are you so happy?" Allison asks skeptically.

"What? Who me? I was thinking of something funny I heard earlier…" Avery shoots off excuses then changes the subject quickly. "Ok! Now that that is taken care of, what do you want to do?" Avery says clapping her hands together.

"We're supposed to meet Lydia pretty soon at the edge of the woods."

"Ok, we can't kill her. I know she's annoying sometimes but she's still our friend." Avery holds her hands up as though she's trying to calm Allison down. The two girls break into laughter seconds later.

"But really, I feel like she shouldn't just get a slide for kissing Scott." Allison says after they stop laughing.

"I think I have an idea"

"Want to tell me what it is?"

"Let's just say, I think I found Lydia a date to the dance." Avery gives Allison a smile and starts to head out to the car. Allison joins Avery in the car and they start to head off to meet Lydia.

"Who exactly are we shipping Lydia with again? You know since I'll be the one setting the terms I think I should know who it is." Allison glances over to Avery while she drives.

"Stiles," Avery tries to avoid Allison's surprised look by staring out the window.

"Stiles? But you like Stiles." Allison sounds so sure about Avery's feelings, that Avery knows she's making the right decision by setting up Stiles with Lydia.

"No, I don't…" Avery tries to lie, but the death look Allison gives her snaps her back to the truth, and quick. "Ok, yes, I do, but the thing is, he doesn't like me back and I figured a good way to get out of these gross mushy feelings would be to see him with the love of his life—Lydia."

"So, you want me to set up the first guy you've ever liked here in beacon hills with the most popular, desirable girl at our school?" Allison speaks slowly making sure Avery knows what she's asking for.

"Ok, when you say it like that it sounds like a bad idea." Avery gives Allison a nice big smile as she speaks.

"That's because it is. Avery, Stiles and you have this weird bond that I've never seen between any two people before. You guys just get each other." Allison's words surprise her, why couldn't she have pointed this out sooner?

"Look, all I know for sure is that he doesn't like me back, and it hurts like hell. So yeah, we get each other and everything and that's great but it makes me liking him complicated. We're friends and I just have to except that. I just can't get these stupid feelings you're always talking about to go away." Avery brings her hand to her mouth and starts to bite her thumb nail in shame.

"Maybe you shouldn't try to get rid of them. He might not like you now but just wait till after the dance with Lydia, I'm sure he'll be running away from her and into your arms like that." Allison snaps her fingers, signaling the amount of time it would take Stiles to magically fall in love with Avery.

"Right… and maybe one day I'll marry Alexander Ludwig and own a summer home on the beach of Maui."

"You never know." Allison says with a shrug. "What happened to your cheek by the way?" Allison glances at her once more as Avery's hand goes instinctively to her cheek. She thought she did a decent job with the cover up she bought from the store but apparently she missed a spot.

"Jake hit me." The words leave Avery's lips just above a whisper.

"What?!" Allison sounds furious. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?!"

"Well I kind of kneed him in the groin… then elbowed him in the face… then threatened to cut his 'thing' off, so I didn't think I should tell anyone." Avery says looking down at her hands.

"Wow, that's actually kind of bad ass… When did it happen?" Allison pulls over and parks the car then turns to Avery.

"Yesterday," Avery replies smiling at Allison's comment.

"Wait you're the one who gave Jake that black eye? He was telling everyone he was jumped in the parking lot." This makes Avery laugh and Allison joins in soon after.

"That's very flattering," Avery says after she finally stops laughing.

"I think I know a way for you to get back at him." Allison says with a diabolical smile crossing her face.

"How?" Avery asks intrigued.

"I think you should take off the rest of that makeup and let Lydia see—" Avery begins to protest but Allison continues to talk not allowing Avery to interrupt, "Just think, Lydia controls the lacrosse team because she's dating Jackson so if she knows Jackson knows, and if Lydia knows then she'll be pissed at Jackson for having a friend that would do something like that and Jackson will make Jake suffer for making Lydia mad at him, and for hitting you of course, then he'll turn the whole team against him. It's perfect!" Allison looks proud of her plan and Avery has to agree its pretty perfect, so Avery pulls out her mirror and wipes off the rest of her makeup.

Avery jumps out of the car and sees Lydia almost instantly, she's hard to miss. Allison and Avery walk over to her and Lydia gasps when she see's Avery's face.

"What the hell happened to your face?" Lydia asks and turns Avery's face to get a better look.

"It's nothing, Lydia, really." Avery turns away, making it seem like she doesn't want to talk about it.

"Avery Mason, you tell me right now what happened." She sounds like her normal demanding self.

"Jake hit me…" So Avery dives into the story of everything that happened and a couple minutes later Lydia looks pissed and excuses herself to make a call. Allison and Avery turn to each other smiling when they hear Lydia yelling into the phone a moment later.

"I think it worked." Avery says with a chuckle.

"Just wait, Jake will be out of the school by the end of the year." After the words leave Allison's lips she quiets down since Lydia is on her way back.

"Ok , now that's taken care of, do you want to tell me why we're here?" Lydia says looking around and only seeing trees.

"You'll see," Allison says then walks away leaving the two girls standing there.

"I guess we should follow her," Avery says dryly.

"I guess so." Avery follows after Allison first but Lydia is close behind.

"When you said you had to stop for an errand before we went shopping a hike through the woods is not what I would have expected." Lydia says jogging after Allison.

"Before I forget I wanted to ask you something, Jackson asked me to the winter formal." Allison says surprising even Avery by this bit of information.

"Did he?" Lydia obviously looks hurt and Avery can't blame her, she's pretty sure Lydia really did care for Jackson.

"Just as friends, but I just wanted to make sure you were ok with it first." Allison continues to prod.

"Sure as long as it's just friends." Lydia says not looking so sure.

"Well yeah I mean it's not like I would take him to the coach's office during a lacrosse practice to make out with him or anything." Lydia looks at Avery when the words fall out of Allison's mouth and Avery just shrugs.

"About that—," Lydia begins to say but Allison cuts her off.

"No need to explain, I already know everything." Allison says then suddenly stops and swings the bow off her shoulder and in front of her. She pulls out an arrow head and starts to screw it onto the top.

"What does that do?" Lydia asks sound slightly afraid, Avery on the other hand stays quiet and just leans closer to see what it is.

"We're about to find out." Allison stands abruptly, loads the bow and pulls the string back. Subconsciously Avery holds her breath when Allison lets go of the string. The arrow spins through the air for a moment then erupts in sparks when it hits the tree standing in front of the three girls.

"What the hell was that?" Lydia asks.

"Awesome, that's what that was." Avery says with a huge grin.

"Well that was fun. Any more lethal weapons you want to try out?" Lydia asks whipping around and facing Allison.

"Yeah, and can I have a turn?" Avery requests. Just then they hear a noise not far away.

"Hold this." Allison says passing her bow to Lydia.

"What? Why?" Lydia asks looking down at the bow in her hands.

"Because I thought I heard something." Allison replies while turning.

"You go that way I'll go this way," Avery starts to walk away but Lydia's voice stops her.

"So what if you guys did hear something?" Lydia asks her voice beginning to show a sign of fear.

"Well we have to see what that something is." Avery shrugs.

"Don't worry it's probably nothing." Allison assures her.

"But what if that nothing is something and that something is something dangerous?" Lydia continues.

"Then shoot it," Allison says. When Lydia's eyes land on Avery, she pretends she has a fake bow in her hands and draws back the string and let's go, as though she was shooting down a possible threat.

"Great," She hears Lydia say before she walks off in the other direction form Allison and into the foggy woods.

She's only out there for a couple of seconds when she hears her name in a deep voice. She turns abruptly and is agitated to see Derek.

"What the hell do you want?" Avery asks looking less then pleased to see him.

"What? Not happy to see me?" Derek asks.

"Screw you. You left me for dead in that hospital after I tried to save your life, I might add."

"Look, Avery, you don't get it."

"No, I don't, and I don't want to. You're a coward and a liar and you can go to hell. So just leave me alone, and we'll call it even, ok?" Avery starts to walk past him but he grabs her arm. She flinches since he grabbed the cuts she received from the alpha. She rips her arm out of his grasp even though it causes even more pain. "I said leave me alone." She speaks with a menacing tone.

"At least let me see if the cuts are deep enough to turn you." Derek sounds genuine enough and Avery has to admit she has been worried about that. She pulls her sleeves up to reveal her bandaged arms. He's about to reach for her arm when she pulls it away out of his reach and peals the bandages back.

"You can look, but don't you dare touch me." Her words are dripping with distrust. She can tell Derek is…not hurt, but definitely not happy with how things turned out.

"You're fine. They're not deep enough to make you turn." He takes a step away from her to show he means no harm and folds his

"Good… that noise Allison and I heard back there, was that Peter? Should I be worried about Allison right now?"

"No, it's Scott. I'm supposed to be following him." He refuses to make eye contact with Avery but that's fine with her.

"Well, you should get back to work." With that Avery turns around and walks away not bothering to look back.

"Did you find anything?" Lydia asks as she sees Avery walking back.

"Nope, where's Allison?" Avery asks while making sure her sleeves are pulled down all the way.

"Still investigating," Lydia responds then shoves the bow into Avery's hands as though it's the dirtiest thing on earth. Just then Avery hears another noise. "You have got to be kidding me." Lydia moans then jumps behind Avery who stands her ground.

"Don't worry it's just me." Allison says walking up to the two girls.

"Did you find anything?" Avery asks knowing it was Scott out there.

"Nope, must have been a bunny or something. Come on lets go." Allison talks way too quickly to seem normal but Avery shrugs it off.

"Can we go to a more civilized place, one where I don't have to worry about Thumper killing us please?" Lydia asks already moving towards the cars.

"The mall it is!" Avery says moving along beside Allison. She looks back once and only sees a moving shadow, and for some reason Avery smiles.

The rest of the shopping trip Avery tried to seem like her normal annoying self and she's pretty sure she succeeded. She even gets Lydia to show her how to properly cover the bruise on her face so no one can see it. After she gets her car from Allison's house and heads home she gets a text from her.

I think I'm going to take your advice and go over Scott's house, Allison texts her.

I think that is a great idea and yes I am totally biased in saying so, Avery responds.

I'll text you after to let you know how it goes, Allison decides.

Please do! You can leave out all of the lovey-dovey stuff though, Avery jokes.

There won't be any lovey-dovey stuff but ok, Allison agrees, ending the conversation.

Avery closes her phone lays down on her very welcoming bed. She's just about to drift off way to early to sleep when her phone starts to ring once more.

PETER IS GOING OUT WITH MY MOM! Avery reads the text from Scott with haste.

Calm down and explain please. Avery texts back, her fingers flying over the keypad and seconds later Scotts calling her.

"You have to get over here now. Stiles is already on his way and Allison is here and I don't know what to do, Avery!" Scott says, having a little mini panic attack.

"I'm on my way just try to calm down and take care of Allison." Avery grabs her keys and is out the door once more.

"Ok, see you soon," Scott says.

"Oh, and Scott, don't worry you're moms going to be fine, I promise," Avery adds in an attempt to reassure him.

"Thanks Avery." Avery smiles to herself then hangs up the phone so she can focus on speeding down the road to Scott's house.

When she gets there Scott and Stiles are already talking to each other outside by Stiles jeep.

"So, do we have a plan already or what?" Avery asks as she jumps out of the car, barely giving herself enough time to turn off the engine.

"Avery? What are you doing here?" Stiles asks with his big brown eyes fixed on her.

"I called her. We can use all the help we can get," Scott replies for Avery while giving Stiles a suspicious look.

"Right, yeah, help, we need help," Stiles rambles.

"Cool, now that that's taken care of, do you guys already have a plan?" Avery folds her arms across her chest to block out the biting chill of the night.

"Stiles does, he's going to hit Peters car with his and that will stop my mom from going out with him."

"Ok, two problems: one, your mom can't see you or it will look major sketchy, and two, if they already left how will we find where they went?" Avery asks skeptically.

"Well, that's where you come in…" Avery doesn't like the way Scott starts that sentence. He sounds all hesitant and slightly scared. "I was thinking that I could take your car and follow them by finding their scent and you and Stiles will be in his car behind me. Then when find them I can park close by because my mom and Peter have never seen your car so they won't recognize it." Scott looks at Avery so pleadingly that she really doesn't have a choice; she has to say yes.

"Fine, but if you get one scratch on my car I'll fill your shampoo with wolfsbane." Avery sees Scott flinch and pushes past him to jump into the front seat of Stiles jeep. It doesn't take more then a second for the boys to jump into action.

"Sorry I didn't call. I thought you would want to be alone," Stiles says finally breaking the silence.

"I kinda did, but Scott needed me so…" She lets her sentence trail off into the air.

"Look Avery, I'm sorry for what I said. It was stupid and messed up, especially since I didn't mean a word of it… I actually do really like—" And there he is about to say the last word that would solidify Avery's unavoidable eventual heartbreak. She can't let him say it.

"I got you a date with Lydia to the dance," Avery blurts out before she has a chance to stop herself.

"—you…you did what?" He finishes the sentence anyways but tries to pass it off as the beginning of a new sentence instead and Avery has no problem playing along.

"Yup, I got you a date with Lydia to the dance. You're welcome." Avery spills out.

"I uh… I don't know what to say…" Stiles looks hesitantly at Avery's car driving in front of them.

"That's a first. Look Stiles, you've loved this girl since you were a kid. And now you finally have a chance to get her to love you back. All I'm saying is that you should make sure that chapter is closed before moving onto a new one." Avery looks down at her hands to see they're shaking.

"Sure, why not?" Stiles glances at her but she looks away from him and out the window quickly. "Scott's pulling over so you might want to buckle up. It's time to get into a little accident." Stiles smiles when the last word leaves his lips and Avery tries to give him a convincing smile back.

"Can't wait," She replies. Just before crashing into the car in front of them Stiles grabs Avery's hand and holds tight. Almost as though he would never let her go. That's when the cars hit.
