Hey! Enjoy the chapter! Sorry it's so long!

The cars crash wasn't as bad as it sounded in fact it was barely enough to send the two teenagers forward in there seats a bit, but it definitely did the trick.

"Stiles!" Avery hears Scott's mom shout.

"Mrs. McCall?" Stiles asks as though he had no idea she was the one in the car.

"Yes!" She yells back while Peter gets out of the car and takes the place next to Scott's mom. Avery takes a small step back subconsciously, but only Stiles and Peter notice. Stiles brushes his hand against hers for support and it works, she feels better instantly.

"I mean I did not know what happened. You guys just came out of nowhere." Stiles says sounding once more completely confused

"Came out of nowhere? We were parked on the side of the road, Stiles!" Mrs. McCall yells back. Avery almost smiles at her words but manages to hold it in.

"Wow. How crazy is that?" Stiles looks at Avery then brings his hands down smacking against his legs with a shrug.

"Pretty crazy," Avery agrees with Stiles finally speaking up.

"How did you not see us?" Mrs. McCall asks folding her arms across her chest skeptically.

"It was me… I kind of distracted him I guess, sorry." Avery says grabbing Stiles' hand and smiling. Stiles drops her hand after Mrs. McCall looks away making Avery wonder if he's mad at her or something. "Uh, maybe we should call someone." Avery says looking between the two cars.

"Yeah we should probably call the cops, do an accident report thing." Stiles says gesturing to the cars.

"I don't think that's necessary," Peter says finally participating in the conversation.

"Are you sure? I think I'm feeling a little whiplash." Stiles says rubbing the back of his neck and wincing.

"Whiplash?! You hit us!" Scott's mom yells back.

"I don't know there's something definitely wrong with my neck." Stiles points to where the imaginary pain is and keeps rubbing. Peter walks away whispering something that Avery can't hear but seconds later she sees her car start up and speed off down the road.

"— can't believe this is happening." Avery focuses back on the conversation after seeing her car disappear around a corner.

"I'm really sorry Mrs. McCall, it was a stupid accident." Avery says sincerely.

"I'm sorry I don't think we've met." Melissa looks upset that her date was messed up but plasters on a tired smile.

"Oh right sorry, this is Avery, Avery Mason." Stiles says gesturing to the girl next to him.

"Oh so you're the famous Avery," Mrs. McCall says.

"Wow, famous? Can you call up People magazine and tell them for me because I don't think they know quiet yet." Everyone chuckles lightly and Avery releases the breath she didn't know she was holding.

"Well it's nice to finally have a face to place with a name." Melissa says glancing at Peter who has somehow ended up by her side once more.

"Well if there's not going to be an accident report we should probably get going." Stiles says moving towards his car door.

"Yeah, I should be getting home." Avery says glancing into the darkness where her car disappeared to.

"I should probably get you home too. I think I'm going to bring my car into the shop and make sure nothings wrong with it." Peter say's to Melissa just loud enough for Avery and Stiles to hear.

"I guess that worked." Stiles says speeding down the road.

"Not really Scott just took off with my car. My beautiful baby all alone out there." Avery looks out the window and can feel the tension between her and Stiles growing.

"Right, your car." Stiles chuckles humorlessly.

"Um, is everything ok?" Avery asks quietly.

"Uh, not really," Stiles says rubbing the back of his neck then bringing his hands down on the steering wheel. "I … you know what? Just forget it. I guess it doesn't really matter anymore," He sighs and pulls the car over in front of Avery's house.

"Are you sure?" Avery asks looking deep into his brown eyes.

"Yeah I'm fine. Have a good night… and don't worry I'll try and find your car for you." Stiles says putting on a big smile. Even though he obviously isn't fine Avery feels that if she asks more questions she would be a total hypocrite. Especially since that's mainly her go to word for 'don't ask me anything else'.

"Ok thanks," Avery says softly then gets out the car and walks toward her door without looking back.

It's for the best, she thinks to herself full of sadness.

Avery makes herself dinner since her parents still aren't home and she eats upstairs in her room with Roxy by her side. After taking a quick shower she lies down on her bed and thinks back to the decisions she made today. All she can do now is hope she made the right choices. She falls asleep questioning if she should go to the dance at all and has a weird dream.

She's walking down a weird hallway, a hallway from her old school, she realizes after a close inspection of the walls. She's walking down the poorly lit hallway when all of a sudden the lights go out completely. Avery doesn't know why but she feels like something is behind her, stalking after her. She starts to jog, then she hears a growl so her jog turns into a run, then she hears something running after her so her run turns into a sprint. She turns around for a second to try and get a glimpse of the thing following her but it's too dark and by the time she turns around it's too late to stop herself from running smack into an open locker, her old locker to be exact. Her nose is broken and bleeding everywhere but worst of all is the locker. There's something inside and it's not the books and old pictures she left behind, it's a baby, a cute baby, and it's her. Or at least it looks like her from the baby pictures she's seen. It's crying, she's crying, and she knows why. It's because the thing is growing closer, and it's getting louder. So loud it shakes the walls. When Avery turns finally, swallowing her fear, she comes face to face with a werewolf but not just any werewolf… her sister. Her sister isn't the threat though, something is behind her, but all Avery can see is a pair of big red eyes. Her sister, blood dripping down her slashed wrists, walks towards Avery and screams for her to run. Avery tries to grab the baby from the locker but her sister says there's no time for that. Quinn grabs the baby from the locker while Avery runs, but Avery realizes Quinn isn't following her. The dream ends with Avery turning around to see a big werewolf paw reach out of the shadows and swing down towards her sister. Quinn yells Avery's name one last time before the paw kills both the baby and Quinn instantly.

"Avery!"

"Quinn!" Avery bolts straight up gasping.

"Wha— who's Quinn?" Avery looks up and sees Scott standing in front of her with Roxy sitting by his feet.

"Scott, don't take this the wrong way but what the hell are you doing in my house at six o'clock in the morning?" Avery asks still out of breath.

"Well I came to drop off your car and the door was unlocked. Then I heard you breathing weird and thought someone might be hurting you so I kind of just came up. I think you were having a nightmare or something." Avery looks up at him and can tell he wants to help but doesn't know how. Just like everyone else.

"Why didn't you call first?" Avery asks back.

"I lost my phone last night… So were you, you know having a nightmare?" Scott asks with his puppy dog eyes set to extra worry mode.

"Yeah, don't worry about it though it was nothing." Avery waves it off but Scott gives her this 'really?' look that shows he doesn't buy that or a second.

"I can—" Scott starts to talk but Avery knows where that's headed.

"Hear my heartbeat, I know." Avery brings her hands to her face and didn't realize she was crying in her sleep, she quickly wipes the tears away looks back up to Scott.

"I was going to say, I can smell your grief… I wasn't sure at first, but I know that's what it is now." He takes a seat at the end of her bad, a safe distance from her making her feel more comfortable. "So who's Quinn?"

"She's my dead werewolf sister," Avery croaks after a moment more of silence.

"You have a sister?" He asks raising his eyebrows in shock.

"Had, past tense. I had a sister." Avery corrects quietly.

"And she was a werewolf?"

"Yeah, that's how I knew about werewolves before you did. My sister wrote it all down in her diary."

"Wow."

"Yup," Avery replies not having any other words to explain it.

"So how did your sister…?" Scott begins to ask but his sentence tappers off.

"Die? Well if you ask the police report it would say that she tried to kill herself, but if you ask me… I think she was murdered by her alpha."

"Why would an alpha want to kill it's pack?"

"That's what I was wondering. Derek was actually helping me figure things out but then he became Anakin Skywalker and went over to the dark side."

"Is that a Star Wars thing?"

"I seriously don't understand the people I hang out with." Avery says shaking her head.

"Derek saved my life last night—" Scott goes on to tell this story about how he saved Jackson's life from Derek, but then Kate Argent showed up and almost killed Derek and Scott. Derek then stayed behind so Scott could have a chance to get away. His boss, Deaton, who is apparently some supernatural guru, found Scott passed out in the woods and helped him with the gun shot wound he suffered from and sent him on his way.

"But the point of this whole story is that Derek might not be a lost cause… That and even though I don't know much about all of this stuff, I'll try and help you find your sisters killer…"

"Thanks Scott." Avery says with a shadow of a smile dancing across her lips. Scott starts to get up to leave but stops in her doorway.

"I'm sorry about your sister, Avery." Scott says looking genuinely sympathetic.

"Thanks," She whispers back so quietly a regular human wouldn't be able to hear her, but Scott smiles letting her know he did.

After Scott leaves Avery spends the rest of the Sunday doing homework. When her parents finally get home her mom is too tired to cook so they order Chinese food and rent a couple movies. In all it was a good, normal Sunday. The dream reoccurs on and off for the rest of the week and on Wednesday night, two days before the dance, the dream comes back. She wakes up early the Thursday morning since she barely slept all night and puts on a simple light blue dress with a gold color necklace. She adds a pair of beige heels and a simple gold bracelet before heading out the door and to her car.

The day starts out completely normal… a little too normal for Avery's taste. She was even starting to worry. That is until she sees Scott and Stiles peeking around a corner watching something. Avery smiles and creeps up behind them.

"What are we watching?" Avery asks suddenly making only Stiles jump.

"Hey, Avery," Scott replies back still watching whatever it is behind the corner.

"You heard her coming and you didn't want to warn me or anything."

"Shh. Jackson is about to ask her." Scott says waving Stiles off.

"Ask who what?" Avery asks peaking around the corner as well.

"Allison to the dance," Scott replies regretfully.

"Oh, yeah, I heard about that. Are you ok, Scott?"

"Yeah, it was my idea."

"Oh my gosh what was that?!" Avery asks suddenly hitting Stiles arm.

"What? What?" Scott question persistently.

"Did you hear something?" Stiles asks looking around.

"Hell, I… I think it just froze over!" Avery says still acting worried. "I mean hell must have frozen over for Scott to actually want Allison to go to the dance with Jackson." Avery finally cracks a smile.

"Ha, I get it." Stiles laughs smiling back at her.

"Hahaha," Scott laughs sarcastically, "you guys are so funny." He adds before turning around once more to see Allison.

"Thanks," Avery says with a huge smile on her face. She peaks her head around the corner and sees Allison laughing with Jackson next her. Ouch.

"Hey, don't worry. I'll still be there." Stiles says obviously seeing the look of pain that just crossed Scotts face.

"I'm still going." Scott replies as though the coach never told him he wasn't allowed to go.

"I'm sorry, I thought you were on academic probation and not allowed to go?" Avery questions.

"Yeah," Scott replies as though it doesn't matter.

"Is that such a good idea? Do you even have a date?" Stiles asks narrowing his eyes.

"Not yet," Scott replies with a shrug.

"Do you have a suit?" Stiles continues to pry.

"Not yet," Scott says beginning to sound annoyed.

"Do you have a ticket to the formal? A ride there?" Stiles keeps asking depressing questions.

"Ok, Mr. Optimism, you want to take it down a peg?" Avery says before Scott can answer.

"What? This is stuff that you need to go to a dance…" He says back making a very fair point. "You never answered my questions. Do you have a ticket or a ride there?" Stiles asks after a moment.

"No, and no." Scott says answering both questions.

"So you're going to ride your bike to a dance that you're not even allowed to go to, without a date, a suit, or a way in with werewolves and werewolf hunters all out to kick your little werewolf ass." Stiles breaks out in a huge grin.

"Yeah, are you guys going to help me?" Scott replies smiling back

"Hell yeah," Stiles fires off looking pumped. He claps his hand down on Scott's arm and the two boys look fired up. They start to head toward the doors leading outside when Avery has a thought.

"Hey, guys, I have an idea." Avery's hesitant to even mention it but what the hell, what's the worst that could happen?

"What is it?" Stiles asks back still wearing a big smile on his face. Okay, now Avery's second guessing the idea.

"Well I can help with a couple of stuff on that list." She glances between the two boys and Stiles gestures for her to continue. "As you said before you kind of have to have a date to these type of things and well I haven't really been asked or asked anyone so… I don't know but it's ok with Allison… and everyone else," Avery glances at Stiles really quickly then stares down at her hands, "then I don't see why we couldn't go as friends… I mean it would be way better then going with some random jock Lydia picks out for me."

"Are you asking me to the dance?" Scott asks looking slightly scared and definitely surprised.

"Well I was more proposing the idea as an option for you to take but sure why not?" Avery shrugs.

"Well uh…" Scott looks at Stiles who's basically on freeze frame with a shocked look on his face, "sure. If it's ok with Allison I'd love to go to the dance with you Avery."

"Cool, so that takes care of the date part and I have a car so that takes car of the ride part. All we need is a way to sneak you in." Avery nods shortly snapping Stiles back into reality.

"If Scott's sneaking in then how can he be your date?" Stiles asks leaning back on his heels.

"I guess that's true. I mean that was just an option, he doesn't have to say yes if he doesn't want to."

"But he did say yes. He said yes and now the two of you are going to the dace together… yup… you two going together… because that makes perfect sense."

"Look, I can always ask Isaac if he wants to go with me." Avery says holding her hands up trying to ease the conversation a bit.

"Isaac?"

"Yeah, Isaac Lahey, he's on your lacrosse team." Avery replies.

"Yeah, I know who he is, but how do you know?"

"I practiced lacrosse with him once at lunch and we've been talking a lot in chem class … well not a lot but enough for me to know he doesn't have a date to the dance."

"Oh so you guys were already talking about going to the dance together?"

"No we talked about the dance. It's a common topic that comes up when you're in high school."

"So you have two guys you want to take to the dance?"

"No, I'll either take one or the other… Look Stiles it's either I take one of them or I just don't go at all. Would that be better for you? If I just skip the dance entirely while you go with Lydia and have a magical night." Avery can't help but have sarcastic words pour from her mouth.

"You're the one making me go with Lydia!" Stiles shoots back bringing his hands up in the air.

"I was doing you a favor!" Avery says back clutching onto the handle of her backpack.

"Please, you were trying to get rid of me." Stiles laughs humorlessly making Avery feel even worse.

"Look guys, I can just go alone." Scott adds trying to resolve the issue.

"No, you can go with Avery. I don't care… in fact I couldn't care less. I'll go with Lydia and have 'magical night' and you can go with Avery and hide from Coach the whole time." Stiles words drip with sarcastic joy.

"Sounds great to me," Avery puffs out.

"Perfect," Stiles shoots back.

"Perfect," Avery copies taking a small step towards him.

"Perfect," Stiles repeats taking a small step towards her.

"Perfect," Scott adds in hesitantly.

"Well I have to go dress shopping with Allison and Lydia, if you'll please excuse me." Avery says coming back into the normal conversation they were supposed to be having.

"Oh that's fine because I'm going to remember?" Stiles says with a smile on his face

"Great," Avery fires back with the same smile.

"Great," Stiles repeats.

"Guys, can we not start this again please?" Scott pleads.

"Right, well I'll pick you up around eight for the dance." Avery shoots to Scott before storming off to her car.

"So you want to take Scott to the dance?" Allison asks as the two girls wait in the parking garage at the mall for Lydia.

"Only if you're ok with it and it would be just as friends. I probably won't even spend any time with him since he'll be running away from coach. It's mostly because he needs a ride there," Avery adds quickly.

"I think it's a great idea!" Allison says with a smile and a small laugh. "I mean, I would rather have you take him then some other girl. Plus, I know you love Stiles so it's not like you'd Lydia out on me. I love it, it's perfect." Allison looks overjoyed with the news making Avery breath easier.

"Well I'm glad you like the plan. Now if you could convince Stiles to jump on board that would be awesome." Avery sighs, tired of the incessant bickering.

"Well of course Stiles isn't going to be ok with it. He likes you, so, obviously, he's not going to be ok with you taking anybody but him."

"Well he's going with Lydia, and I'm ok with that." Avery says back looking around the parking garage.

"Are you really?" Allison asks digging for the truth.

"Well of course not, Allison, don't be silly. I just need to know there's nothing left there. Or nothing that could be there."

"So after that, after you realize they absolutely have no feelings for each other would you want to be with him?"

"No…" Avery says after a moment of thought.

"Why?" Allison asks looking at her with such intensity Avery can't meet her gaze.

"Because I don't deserve him," Avery says. When the words leave her mouth she knows all along that that was the problem between her and Stiles. She doesn't deserve him. Allison looks hurt to hear Avery say that and opens her mouth to start talking when Lydia's bug pulls up next to them.

"What are we waiting for ladies? We have a lot of work to do," Lydia struts off towards the malls entrance leaving Avery and Allison behind. Allison gives Avery a pained look which Avery responds with a shrug. Allison has her arms around her in seconds and brings her into a quick reassuring hug that seems to say 'no guy in the whole world is worthy of you' then she jogs after Lydia.

"So, how have things been?" Lydia asks obviously steering the question towards Allison and obviously meaning Allison's feelings towards the whole Lydia and Scott kiss.

"You mean since the last time I saw you at lunch, well to be honest I've suddenly grown extremely depressed." Avery says with a sigh making Allison laugh.

"Don't be so sarcastic, Avery. It makes you seem lazy." Lydia shoots back folding her arms across her chest.

"Thanks for the advice, Dr. Seuss. I'll keep that in mind." Avery says with a small laugh.

"What about you Allison? How are you?" Lydia says ignoring Avery's last comment, making it way funnier in Avery's eyes.

"Things are alright, I just have a lot on my mind," Allison says softly.

"You could smile at least. Ever hear the saying 'never frown someone could be falling in love with your smile?' Smile Allison, I'm buying you a dress." Lydia replies sounding like her normal demanding self.

"I have to admit that as far as apologies go that's more than I expected," Allison declares. Avery knows where this is headed and decides to stay silent and watch with a smile on her face.

"Excellent," Lydia states, sounding pleased.

"But not as much as I'm going to ask," Allison adds as the girls get on the escalator and start to ride up to the dress and perfume department.

"What? What's that supposed to mean?" Lydia questions beginning to sound a tad fearful.

"It means you're going to cancel on whatever dumb jock you said yes to, and you're going to go with somebody else," Allison says stepping off the escalator with Avery and Lydia following close behind.

"Who?" Lydia asks skeptically.

"Him," Allison says gesturing to Stiles. He's standing at the perfume counter and just as Lydia looks over Stiles sprays the perfume accidently in his face and has a big over dramatic sneeze making Avery laugh and Lydia wince. "Oh, don't frown Lydia, someone could be falling in love with your smile." Allison says making Avery laugh even harder. Allison shrugs at Lydia's annoyed look and Stiles finally spots them and gives the three girls an awkward wave. Lydia doesn't say a word she just struts past Stiles and towards the dress section.

"Well, I for one, think that went pretty well." Avery says placing her hands on her hips.

"Come on," Allison laughs and puts her arm through Avery's, tugging her along.

Avery hates every dress in the Macy's store. It's not that there not pretty it's just that she hates them all. She looks at one and hands it to Lydia or Allison thinking it would look better for one of them rather then herself. Avery picks up a light pink dress with a black sash around it and hands it to Lydia who throws it on a big pile of dresses that Stiles is struggling to hold.

"Uh, ok, so are you just going to try all of these on right now? Is this a twenty-four hour Macy's?" Stiles asks as Lydia and Avery continue to scan through the racks.

"You can't rush perfections Stiles," Avery says back picking up a blue dress then putting it back. Lydia struts away to another rack leaving Stiles and Avery behind.

"Where are all of the dresses you want to try on? Or is Scott running around somewhere holding them for you?" Stiles asks trying to keep the mound of dresses in his arm from falling.

"No he's not, Stiles. Scott and I are just friends and you know it. He's in love with my best friend and I'm in love with hi— I mean this… this dress right here. Wow so pretty." Avery says picking up some bright blue dress covered in ruffles.

"Avery, you hate ruffles," Stiles says with a knowing smile.

"People change, Stiles. You might want to hurry, Lydia found another rack of dresses and she might need her pack mule." Avery says with a soft smile.

"Oh God," Stiles says with a look of dread. Avery watches him walk over to Lydia just in time to have two more dresses thrown onto the pile.

Avery looks around for Allison since she's beginning to feel rather lonely. When Avery finally spots Allison her heart stops. Peter is standing next to her talking as though their friends. Allison on the other hand looks hesitant and slightly scared. Before Avery even knows what she's doing she's storming up to the two of them.

"You're not here alone are you?" Peter asks just as Avery walks up.

"Alone? Of course she's not alone, we're girls we can't even go to the bathroom alone." Avery says with an awkward chuckle. Peter smiles at Avery in his polite creepy way then looks back at Allison

"So, this is for a high school dance?" He asks the two girls. Avery's hesitant to answer since she's not sure Scott would want him knowing but Allison answers for her so it doesn't really matter.

"Formal," Allison corrects softly.

"Yeah you know us teenagers always busy with our formals, and Facebook's and whatnot." Avery laughs again louder then she originally intended. Suddenly over the loud speaker a lady says that Allison's car is being towed.

"Avery ! You told me it would be ok to park there," Allison shoots turning to Avery suddenly.

"Oh, I'm sorry it's hard to read those signs, I might need glasses or something… You should go check on your car though," Avery adds.

"Right, I'll be right back." Allison says then jogs off. Peter turns away from Avery and starts whispering stuff. The only word Avery catches is Scott. Avery assumes Scott must be close by and Peter only wants him to hear with his super wolf hearing so he whispers, not that she's complaining or anything. Avery slowly turns around and tries to take small quiet steps away form Peter but of course it doesn't work.

"Not so fast Avery," Avery stops in her tracks and turns around at his words. "Now how are those cuts healing?"

"Uh, you mean the huge slash marks you made across my arms… they're doing pretty good. I mean, if you don't count the pain and the bloody pussy mess, then they're just peachy." Avery shoots back.

With speed Avery didn't know was possible Peter reaches up and grabs her arms. Avery winces with pain and tries to pull her arms free but it doesn't work, he's to strong. Then something weird happens. It reminds Avery of the time Derek took her pain away but much stronger. By the time Peter lets go of her arms she feels no pain at all.

"Your welcome," Peter says and then walks away.

"Avery!" She hears someone harsh whisper her name and turns to see Scott standing by a bunch of mannequins.

"Scott, what are you doing here?" Avery asks walking towards him.

"Protecting Allison of course," Scott answers as though it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"Oh so the car thing was you then?" Avery questions further.

"Yeah, smart right?" Scott says wearing a proud smile.

"Yeah, really smart actually… I just have one question…is her car really being towed or did you just say that? Because I really couldn't read that sign and I just kind of told her to park there anyways," Avery says cautiously.

"Don't worry it's not really being towed, I just told the lady at the front desk that it was." Scott replies with a small chuckle.

"Well that's good to hear," Avery says with a sigh of relief.

"What did Peter do when he grabbed your arms?" Scott asks after a moment of hesitation.

"Oh, I'm not really sure." Avery lifts up the sleeves of her jacket and peels back the bandages. She freezes for a second… they're gone, completely gone. "I… what did he do to me? I had five huge cuts on each arm a minute ago."

"You don't think you turned, do you?" Scott looks terrified for a split second at the thought.

"Don't worry, Derek told me they weren't deep enough. I think he just healed me or something."

"But how? And why?" Scott inquires.

"I don't know… but I'm sure I'll find out sooner or later." Avery says looking over to the escalator and seeing Allison appear once more. "You better beat it puppy boy, Allison's on her way back and it might look a little weird for you to be here… unless you want to try on a dress or something …but again a little weird you being her ex and everything." Avery adds with a smile.

"Yeah I should go… oh and I'll meet you at your house at eight tomorrow. You shouldn't have to pick me up. I mean you are the girl after all." Scott says with a smile.

"Wow, what a gentlemen." Avery replies then shoos him away.

After Lydia and Allison buy there dresses all four of the teenagers leave the Macy's with Lydia lecturing Avery.

"You have to find a dress Avery. The dance is tomorrow and you can't just show up in sweats."

"Darn it! I got them dry cleaned and everything!" Avery snaps her fingers in frustration. "Don't worry, Lydia. Believe it or not I actually own some ok dresses, I can just wear one of those." Avery says rubbing her newly healed arms.

"No, that is absolutely unacceptable. You are not allowed to show up in a dress you've already worn! Especially one that is not in this fashion season! This is your first dance at Beacon Hills and if you don't look absolutely killer then you could become a social pariah, and not even I can save you from that."

"So basically what you're saying is no pressure." Avery says making Stiles laugh and Allison smile. "Ok, but how will anyone know that I've worn the dress already. It's my first dance here so I can wear one of my old dresses and no one will know," Avery says with a cleaver smile, she sees Stiles staring at her healed arms from the corner of her eye and pulls the sleeves of her jacket down.

"Wrong Avery, I've looked through your closet remember? And although you have some pretty impressive cloths there's still nothing in there that can pass for a formal dress." Lydia raises one of her eyebrows daring Avery to challenge her statement.

Sadly Avery's got nothing, no sassy comeback or witty response… nothing… Lydia's right, sure Avery has cute dresses that she can class up a bit but when it comes down to it she had nothing formal appropriate. She threw all her dressy dresses away thinking she would never want to go to a dance or do anything fun after Quinn's death.

"Hello, earth to Avery." Avery jumps a little at Lydia's voice.

"Yeah, what?" Avery asks returning back to earth.

"I just asked you if you wanted to go to a different store or something," Allison asks with a smile.

"Uh no, I'm fine… I think I'm just going hang out here and look some more." Avery says gesturing back up to the Macy's.

"Well do you want me to hang around and give you a ride back to your car after?" Allison asks turning around to look at Avery.

"No, I'm fine. I can just have my mom get me or something." Avery replies with a shrug.

"Well uh… if you want I need pick up my tux from the tailor here so you could keep looking for a dress and I could give you a ride when I'm done." Stiles offers with a shrug, rolling onto the heels of his feet.

"Yeah do that," Lydia commands and starts to walk away. "I'm expecting perfection tomorrow night Avery, nothing less is acceptable." Lydia says not bothering to turn around.

"Are you sure you'll be ok?" Allison asks already slowly following Lydia.

"You're enjoying this aren't you?" Avery shoots back seeing the look of happiness on Allison's face, which is obviously attributed to Avery and Stiles being thrown together once again.

"I'm not enjoying it but I definitely encourage and support it," Allison gives her one last smile and jogs off to catch up with Lydia.

"That was… interesting… Girls really like to shop don't they?" Stiles asks hesitantly chopping his way into a conversation.

"Some of us do, some of us don't… I for one hate it, always have, always will." Avery says wiping her sweaty palms on her cloths, wondering why she's so nervous the whole time she's talking.

"Why?" Stiles asks walking slowly towards nothing in particular.

"I think it's because of the whole trying a million things on just to buy one or two things. Or maybe it's the whole stress of wondering if you actually look good in something or if it's just your wishful thinking. You know it could also be the whole depressing matter of finding something that doesn't make me look like a marshmallow or some mutant that should be studying under Professor X. Anyone one of those reasons is fine with me if you want to take your pick." Avery takes a breath after little rant and begins to blush.

"Wow, and I thought I rambled a lot," Stiles says with a chuckle.

"Yeah I tend to have a lot of opinion about things that don't really matter," Avery responds with a sigh.

"Well, I don't know, I think if you care about something then it does matter," Stiles replies rubbing the back of his neck.

"You know I thought the exact same thing until I realized that the things we care about can be taken away from us and it doesn't matter how well we argue for them or how much we care. Because when it comes down to it the things we care about don't matter if they can be thrown away like trash." Avery didn't really mean to go on a depressing spiral but that weird dream the other night threw her off. "I'm sorry… that was way to depressing for mall talk." Avery says hesitating slightly.

"That's ok… I think your wrong though," Stiles adds keeping his eyes forward as they step up onto the escalator back up to the Macy's. "I think if we care for something it gets taken from us then we fight even harder to keep it even though its not here. Caring about things that can be taken away at a moments notice doesn't make them nothing, its makes them everything." Stiles shrugs finally looking at her. Avery stares back at him the wheels in her head turning until they reach the top of the escalator and step off.

"Don't you have a suit you need to pick up or something?" Avery asks while her hands glide over the different types of fabrics.

"No, are you kidding? I got my tux weeks ago," Stiles responds with a smile.

"Then why did you stay behind?" Avery asks turning to look at him.

"Isn't it obvious? I wanted to know what happened to your arms," Stiles answers.

"Oh, right, Peter showed up to scare Allison and after she left he grabbed my arms and I'm not sure how but he healed them." Avery says rubbing her arms once more.

"What? Why didn't you tell me?!" Stiles says turning to her.

"Well you were with Lydia and I didn't want to move in on your time with her." Avery replies trying to lighten the mood a bit.

"Right," Stiles replies quietly and nods his head. Just then Avery's phone begins to ring letting her know she has a text.

Hey honey, I got off work early and thought we could get a movie or something, where did you run off to? Avery reads the text from her mom then texts back quickly.

Dress shopping… I still can't find one though, Avery replies.

DON'T BUY A DRESS! I HAVE AND IDEA! Avery's reads her moms response and is surprised by all of the exclamation points and capital letters used.

"Who is it?" Stiles asks glancing through the different dresses.

"My mom, here read this." She shows Stiles the text her mom just sent her.

"That's weird… do you want me to take you back to your car." He asks handing her phone back to her.

"Sure I guess." Avery responds with a shrug.

"Ok then, let's get going." Stiles holds out his arm and Avery takes it feeling a bit silly.

"So, uh are you nervous for tomorrow?" Avery asks walking towards Stiles car.

"Kind of, I mean it's hard to believe that me Stiles Stilinski is finally going out with Lydia Martin. After all these years it's finally happening." Stiles answers as he gets into the car.

"Yeah, you're welcome." Avery says quietly.

"I guess you were right about the whole, seeing if things fit and all." Stiles says driving out of the parking structure.

"Well you know me, Ms. Right… that's my nickname," Avery says rubbing her hands on her cloths once more.

"Really? That's your nickname?" Stiles asks with a smile glancing at her.

"Of course, you know on account of how I'm always right."

"Hmm of course… do you have a real nickname or is it just Ms. Right?" Stiles questions further making Avery think for a moment to dig up the answer.

"Uh this might sound a little depressing but my real dad used to call me Teardrop," Avery responds looking out the window.

"Teardrop?" Stiles asks sounding surprised. "Why? You basically never cry."

"I probably used up all my tears when I was a baby then because he used to tell me that I cried all the time… Except they were always quiets tears, I would never scream or anything I would just have a couple of teardrops slip from my eyes all the time." Avery shrugs reminiscing about all the times her dad called her that.

"Weird," Stiles responds not knowing what else to say.

"Yeah, he always used to say it was the strangest thing ever just watching random tears drop from my eyes… He would say they were perfectly shaped too like they were handcrafted by God himself… I don't know, saying it now makes him seem crazy, and I guess he kind of was but I actually really liked hearing the stories he would tell." Avery winces slightly remembering her dads face and she hopes Stiles didn't notice.

"You're allowed to miss him sometimes, Avery." He responds glancing between her and the rode. He pulls into the parking lot of the school and parks next to her car like he's done so many times before.

"I… I don't want to though." Avery chokes out her throat beginning to close up the way it does before she cries… she can't cry now it's not allowed. "I should go, I uh… I have to go." Avery opens the door quickly but stops when Stiles grabs her hand. She turns to him and one single tear leaves her eye against her will. Stiles brings his hands up and cups her face in them

"Your dad was right… they are perfect." He says and then wipes the single tear away.

"I should go," Avery whispers bringing her hand up to Stiles' then slowly pulls his hand down with hers. "Can you promise me something?" Avery asks still holding onto Stiles' hand.

"Anything," Stiles whispers back even though Avery can see the hurt in his eyes.

"Try tomorrow with Lydia… really try… Please," Avery begs.

"Ok," Stiles says looking questionable about the request.

"Thank you," Avery says then leans forward and kisses Stiles slowly on the cheek before jumping out of the car and getting in hers and racing home.
