"Eric Baker used his credit card four days ago." Tony read from his computer. "Pulled out the limit of five hundred dollars."
"If he does not work, how does he have so much money in his bank account?" Ziva asked.
"Mommy and daddy fill up his account with a thousand dollars a month."
"Parents must be rich." Tim added as he rolled his chair over to Tony's desk.
"We sure this is him?" Gibbs asked.
"It has too be." Tim mumbled.
"He only gets a thousand a month but seems to spend it all in just under a week. That's three weeks he's working to get more."
"Or not working." Tim leaned on Tony's desk as he read the other man's computer. "Have you contacted his parents yet?"
"Balboa and Davidson have gone to talk with them." Tony answered as he gently pushed Tim's chair away so he could reach his computer again. "He also has a brother named Tobin. McBride has gone to talk with him."
Gibbs watched his two agents and saw the look on Tony's face there was more he wasn't ready to say out loud with Tim in the room, so making a decision Gibbs stepped in. "McGee go see if Abby has anything from the evidence Metro gave us from the house."
"On it Boss." Tim pushed his chair back to his desk before standing and heading for the back elevators.
Gibbs waited until the elevator closed on his agent before turning back to Tony. "What else?"
Tony sighed and rubbed at his forehead. "Charles Baker, grandfather of Eric, has a cabin just outside of Maryland."
"And?"
"And according to the power company someone turned on the lights three months ago."
"Do you think Eric and Lisa are hiding out there?" Ziva asked from her own desk.
Tony shrugged, tossing a pencil he was rolling in his fingers onto his desk. "What other leads do we have? But Probie can't go with us. He's still not thinking clearly, he'd storm in there just to get his daughter, whether she's there or not."
Gibbs agreed with his senior field agent but before he could say anything the front elevators opened and Balboa and Davidson headed their way. "Anything from the parents?"
Balboa spoke up first. "They only hear from their son when he's in need of more cash. He never tells them why or if he's with someone. They figure he'll be calling today or tomorrow since he just pulled out the last of what's in his account. Mrs. Baker said she'd call us the moment he does so we can try and trace it."
"Would he be stupid enough to call from the cabin if that is where he's hiding out?" Ziva asked as she stood and walked around her desk.
Tony also stood. "If he and Lisa really do have Maddie probably not, unless he doesn't think anyone suspects them."
Just then Tim came rushing back into the bullpen and looked right at Gibbs. "Carrie woke up."
Gibbs looked around at his team, then at Balboa and Davidson. He really didn't want to split up his team but he knew they now had two different places to be. Making a decision Gibbs grabbed his gun and coat as he stood. "DiNozzo, Ziva, go with Balboa and Davidson and check out the cabin. Tim and I will go and talk with Carrie."
"Cabin?" Tim looked between his teammates. "What cabin?"
"Later, let's go." Gibbs walked over to McGee's desk and grabbed the younger man's own coat, helping him into it as he pushed him towards the elevator.
The pair were silent until they were in the car and headed for the hospital. Gibbs could tell that McGee was working up to something so he stayed silent. Finally Tim opened his mouth. "I know you're all trying to protect me, and I also know the timeline there usually is when a child goes missing. After the first 24-hours we're usually looking for a body, not a rescue."
"You can't think like that Tim." Gibbs glanced over at his agent. "Right now you need to think about Carrie and that baby. They're going to need you just as much."
"...I don't know if I can."
"Tim..." A snort from the younger man stopped what Gibbs was going to say. "What?"
"You have called me 'Tim' more in the last twelve hours then you have since putting me on the team."
Gibbs didn't show it on his face but he panicked slightly. He didn't want, didn't need the younger man to know of his feelings. Not now, not when he was barely hanging on with the loss of his best friend, attack of another, and the kidnapping of his little girl. Looking over at his passenger Gibbs saw that Tim was watching him. With a sigh he pulled over to the side of the road and put the car in park, turning off the ignition. He turned slightly in his seat to look at his agent and opened his mouth to say something, anything, but he didn't even know what he could say, should say.
Tim gave him a soft smile. "So I wasn't imagining it."
"Imagining it?"
"I thought my feelings towards you were one-sided but they're not, are they?"
It took a minute for Gibbs' own brain to catch up with what McGee had said before he chuckled and sat back, scrubbing his hand down his face before dropping it between them. "No, they're not."
Tim nodded, tentatively placing his hand over Gibbs' own. "I know nothing can happen right now, but after we have Maddie back.."
"Yeah."
"Yeah?" Tim smiled at his boss.
Gibbs smiled back. "Oh yeah."
Gibbs squeezed Tim's hand once before pulling away to start the car and get them moving again. He was still in shock with Tim's admission and his brain was still fully processing the information when he dropped Tim off at the hospital entrance before going to find a parking space. Ten minutes later he was strolling into the hospital himself ready to head for the elevators and the third floor when he spotted Tim leaning against the wall across from the bank of elevators, hands in his pockets.
"Thought you'd be up there already."
Tim looked up as the older man approached. "I didn't think I could go in alone. I asked the nurse down here if the police have been in yet. They haven't."
Gibbs understood. "So she still doesn't know about Hannah or Maddie."
Gibbs grabbed Tim's hand the younger man had just pulled out of his pocket, at the same time walking him over to the elevators and pressing the UP button. He never let go as they road up to the third floor or walked down the hall to Carrie's room. He gave his hand a final squeeze before finally letting go at the closed door.
"I'll be right here but you should talk in private. When she's ready I'll come in to ask questions, alright?"
Tim nodded, took a deep breath, and opened the door to step in. Gibbs heard Carrie say Tim's name as the door closed behind him. The older man wanted to walk right in but knew he couldn't. Tim needed to be the one to tell the woman and he needed to do it alone. He watched through the window as Tim sat on the edge of the bed and took Carrie's hand. It didn't take long for Carrie to break down and Tim wrapped her in his arms, rocking her as she cried over their loss. He never took his eyes off the pair, even as he felt the two officers walk up behind him.
"He tell her?"
Gibbs just nodded. One of the officers went to step forward to enter the room and Gibbs' hand shot out to stop him. "Wait."
"Agent Gibbs." The officer looked annoyed. "We've shared everything with you as a favor to our captain because he's a Marine buddy of yours but this is still our case."
Before Gibbs could throw a retort the door opened and Tim was standing there, eyes bloodshot from crying. "She's ready to talk to Agent Gibbs. You two can listen but he's asking the questions."
The officer that had been talking to Gibbs huffed in annoyance but nodded as they all entered the room. Tim returned to the edge of the bed and once again took Carrie's hand between both of his. Gibbs took the chair Tim had been sitting in last night when this had all started while the two officers stood at the end of the bed.
"Mrs. Lockhart..."
"Carrie." The blonde woman smiled at him. "You can call me Carrie, Agent Gibbs. Tim's told me a lot about you. It's nice to finally meet you, though I'd have rather he brought you over for dinner then this."
Gibbs gave her a small smile. "Then call me Jethro."
Carrie nodded as Tim blushed, knowing exactly what he had told Carrie and Hannah over the years about his boss.
"Can you tell us what you remember from last night?"
Carrie frowned. "Was it really just last night?"
"Yes, ma'am."
Tim glared at the officer that had spoken, the man just glared back until his partner shook his head. They had heard many stories from their captain about Agent Gibbs and his stubborn as hell agents. If they wanted Gibbs would get them kicked from the investigation so it was best to just stay quiet. For now.
Tim returned his attention to his friend. "You guys had just put Maddie to bed right?"
Carrie nodded. "Hannah had to give her some cold medicine, she's been sick the last couple of days. It knocked her out pretty fast. Hannah headed to bed right after and I was finishing locking up downstairs when there was a knock at the door. I looked through the living room window first and saw Lisa."
"Was she alone?" Gibbs asked.
"No, Eric was with her. They both looked annoyed. I was going to ignore them and head to bed but Lisa saw me at the window and waved. When I opened the door she rushed in with Eric right behind her."
Carrie stopped talking and closed her eyes. Tim squeezed her hand to let her know she wasn't alone. It was another minute before she opened her eyes again, only looking at Tim as she spoke.
"Lisa was asking about Esther and Blake. She thought we still had them. When I tried to explain that her parents came and took them over a year ago Lisa started screaming that I was lying. She was saying that she had just dropped them off for a few days."
"She didn't realize it had been a year already?"
Carrie shook her head. "By then Hannah was at the top of the stairs. I turned my back on them to tell her to go back to the room. I never should have turned my back." She was crying again as she leaned into Tim, her head on his shoulder. "I felt pain on the back of my head and heard Hannah screaming and then nothing."
"One of them knocked you out."
"And went after Hannah." Carrie added, crying harder. "But why would they take Maddie?"
Gibbs could tell Tim was thinking about something, his face getting that far away look before he shifted slightly to look at him but not dislodge Carrie from his shoulder. "What if they want to use Maddie to get to Esther and Blake?"
"Like a trade?" One of the officers asked. "Who are Esther and Blake?"
Tim sighed but answered. "Lisa's kids. They're living with her parents after she abandoned them last year with Hannah and Carrie."
Gibbs had a question of his own. "I thought you went to talk with the Barclay's. Didn't they tell you about their daughter or her children?"
"No sir, they just wanted to know when their daughter's body would be released for a funeral."
"Hannah already has everything ready for if something happened." Carrie looked at Tim. "We all do."
Tim nodded. "The three of us have plots already. If something were to happen to any of us we would all be close so Maddie and this little one." Tim touched Carrie's baby bump. "Would be able to visit the graves without worrying about different cemeteries. The Barclay's have a separated plot at a different cemetery, Hannah didn't want that."
Gibbs didn't outwardly react to finding out Tim had already planned out his funeral and burial, instead he turned to the officers. "When can they have the funeral?"
"Her body will be released tomorrow."
"So we can have the funeral on Saturday." Tim smirked and Carrie snorted.
"Saturday?" Gibbs looked between them.
"It'll make Mary angry that Hannah won't be burried in the family plots, but she'll be furious that it won't be a Sunday service."
"Ah."
"Is there anything else you need to know?" Carrie yawned and Gibbs stood to place a hand on her shoulder.
"Get some rest. We'll be back if we need anything else or find something."
"Thank you."
Tim stood and helped Carrie lay back down, this time on her side Gibbs ushered the officers out but not leaving himself. Tim tucked the blankets around the woman before kissing her temple and standing up straight. He walked to the door to join Gibbs.
"Can I talk to Agent Gibbs alone for a minute?"
Tim looked at Carrie and the at Gibbs before nodding and exiting the room, closing the door behind him. Gibbs returned to the chair and leaned his elbows on his knees.
"Take care of him." Carrie smiled at him. "He cares for you a lot. I've never seen him so focused then when he talks about you. Not since he was with David at the beginning."
"David?"
"His first and only boyfriend. Hannah and I had to double date for a work thing so we asked my brother David to help us out. David took Hannah and Tim took me but Tim and David seemed to hit if off. They were together two years."
"What happened?"
Carrie shook her head. "That's his story to tell you but I will say that it hurt him badly. He's refused to take a chance with another guy since. I know there had been girls but they never lasted long. And then he joined your team and suddenly it was like he was his old self again. Way to happy to be working on solving murders."
Gibbs snorted. "Yeah."
"At first I thought it was because he finally had the job he wanted but then he would glow when talking about you, even if he was complaining about you yelling at him for something." Carrie shifted slightly. "I know he never told you about any of us, but he wanted too."
"I wish he had." Gibbs scrubbed a hand over the side of his face. "I would have loved to have met Hannah."
"She would have liked you a lot."
Gibbs sat with her for only another minute as she drifted off to sleep before he tucked the blanket back around her like Tim had previously and exited the room. Tim was waiting for him and as soon as the door was closed Gibbs took his hand again as they left the hospital.
