Push ahead, go on and run (Owen hops on Charizard's back and Charizard uses Flamethrower on the camera)
Your family's gone, you must stand tall (Ariel and Catherine look like ghosts and put their hands on Owen's shoulders, and he's smiling while tears come to his eyes)
The love's still there, so you won't fall (Brooklyn and the others stand by Owen's sides, and they start running towards the championship stadium at the Kalos League/Grand Festival)
Make them proud and don't look back (Owen hoists the Kalos League trophy over his head)
Stay strong, go ahead and attack! (Mega Fusion Charizard collides with a Pokemon covered in fire, and an explosion occurs)
When it's lost your bond grows strong (Gengar slowly gets off the ground and Mega Evolves)
Don't second-guess you aren't in wrong (Charizard, Sceptile, Zangoose, Garchomp, Heatmor, and Gengar appear next to Owen, smiling)
And when it's done, you'll move on... Pokemon! (Owen vanishes and a girl with gray eyes and brown hair replaces him)
So, this is where it all (basically) ends. One final chapter standing between us and the conclusion of the series, which doesn't include epilogue chapters. Anyways, last chapter was the majority of Owen and Red's battle, and they're now tied 5-5 with each trainer having their Charizard as the final Pokemon. This chapter will be about the battle between both Charizard, and then some other stuff I don't want to spoil. Will Owen be able to win after overcoming an early deficit?
Guest: Thanks for letting me know
Defender31415: Thanks! I think you'll be pleased with the battle
Guardianboy: That's great to hear, and thank you! Hopefully you enjoy this chapter as much as you did the previous

"Why is he using Mega Fusion? Didn't his mom say something like it should only be used when someone's in danger, or something?" Cindy quizzed as Owen and Charizard stood on their half of the battlefield, rather confidently. Red, meanwhile, was staring at his opponents in awe, and his Charizard was cracking its knuckles.
"Yeah, but this is the biggest battle of his life," Eddy countered. "Besides, this is so awesome!" Everyone rolled their eyes at the nine year old's comments, and they focused on the battle that was about to begin. Owen and Charizard locked eyes for a few seconds, almost as if they were having a telepathic conversation, and it concluded with them nodding at each other.
"Red, meet the power of Mega Fusion!" Owen shouted to the champion, who continued to stare in awe. Charizard grinned before roaring so powerfully a gust of wind blew towards Red and his final Pokemon. The wind was so strong it nearly knocked Red onto his backside, but the teen managed to keep his balance. "Charizard, don't hold anything back!"
"This battle will be between Mega Charizard Fusion and Mega Charizard X! Begin!"
"Start this off with Flamethrower, Charizard!" Red commanded. In the blink of an eye, the champion's first Pokemon flew straight in the air and reared its head back while a large ball of fire began forming in its mouth. The fire and dragon type then spat a wave of red fire at Owen and Charizard, who easily avoided the attack with his incredible speed, which wowed the audience.
"Slam Charizard into the ground with a spinning Aerial Ace!" Owen shouted. Charizard roared angrily before zipping through the air while white streaks of light flew off his face, and he began to spin like a drill in an attempt to gain more power. The ferocious Pokemon collided with his dragon type opponent and they crashed into the ground so hard the entire battlefield was destroyed. Several large chunks of the ground shot up and landed on top of the tattered field, and the crowd stared in amazement while Charizard flew back to Owen's side nonchalantly.
"Charizard, use Mega Punch!" Before Owen or Charizard could react, Red's Charizard flew across the battlefield while his fist was glowing white, and he delivered a vicious punch to the face, sending Owen's Charizard spiraling into the wall, which cracked against the force. Despite the dangerous environment, the entire crowd stayed and began to reach deafening levels as the two Pokemon locked eyes and flew towards each other.
"Dragon Claw!" both trainers commanded at the same time while pointing at the other's Pokemon. Both Charizard reared their arms back while their claws turned dark blue, and they slashed at each other repeatedly. Whenever the two attacks collided, sparks actually flew into the air and exploded. The battling Pokemon continued to swing at each other before Owen's Charizard finally landed a powerful slash across Red's Charizard's face, sending the black and blue dragon onto its back while he skidded back to Red.
"Hang in there, Charizard. Use Dragon Rush!" Red shouted. The X version of Charizard quickly took to the air and was covered in dark blue energy that soon turned into a dragon, and he sped towards Owen and his Charizard. Thanks to Mega Fusion being activated, the trainer and his Pokemon were able to go into each other's minds, and they knew exactly how to counter.
"Counter it with Fire Whip and throw him against the ground, Charizard!" Charizard quickly transferred all of his energy into his claws, and blue whips of fire formed. The winged lizard then wrapped the whips around Red's Charizard, stopping the Dragon Rush attack instantly. Owen smirked as Charizard then slammed his opponent on the ground so hard the entire stadium smoke furiously, and people began to lose their balance.
"Flare Blitz!" Red shouted. Owen gasped in shock as Red's Charizard flew forward while he was enveloped in bright blue fire, and he slammed into Charizard. The younger Pokemon roared in pain as he slammed into the wall, and Owen held his back in pain, feeling exactly what Charizard had. Despite this, the sixteen year old stood tall and masked his pain while Charizard rose to his feet and gave a reassuring nod.
"Use Aerial Ace to get in close and then land a Thunder Punch," Owen whispered to his first Pokemon. Charizard nodded at the words and soared through the air while using Aerial Ace, and he descended towards Red's Charizard. The fire and dragon type jumped back in an attempt to dodge, but Charizard grinned when the older Pokemon attempted to fly away. With lightning quick reactions, Charizard delivered a devastating punch to his opponent's stomach, which sent Red's starter flying straight into the air.
"Charizard, recover and engulf the battlefield in flames!"
"Chase after him and grab his tail, Charizard!" Owen countered. As Red's Charizard attempted to straighten out his flight, Owen's Charizard flew upwards and grabbed the older Pokemon's tail. He then flew back towards the ground and started spinning like a wheel before hurling the fire and dragon type into the already destroyed battlefield. The epic impact created a crater in the middle of the battlefield, and the audience stared at the sight even while the absurdly powerful Pokemon continued to battle in the sky.
"Use Dragon Claw again, Charizard!" Red shouted. The battered Pokemon quickly took off towards his opponent while his claws extended and began to glow dark blue, and he slashed Charizard as viciously as he could, sending the Mega Fused Pokemon spiraling towards the ground. Owen gripped his chest in pain as Charizard recovered in the nick of time, and he flew back to his trainer's half of the battlefield.
"Let's show them just how strong we are, Charizard. Use Flamethrower at max power!" Owen screamed while pointing at Red's Pokemon. Charizard quickly reared his head back and a wave of blue fire escaped from his mouth and scorched the Mega Evolved Pokemon to the point that he was crying in pain. After the attack ceased, Red's Charizard dropped to one knee just like Owen's, but the two stood back up when they locked eyes.
"Use Dragon Rush!"
"Intercept with Aerial Ace!" The two Pokemon roared before flying towards each other, one covered in blue energy, the other with streaks of light flying off his face. The two attacks collided in the middle of the battlefield and an explosion occurred instantly. Everyone took cover once again as a cloud of smoke completely filled the stadium that sat over 200,000 people, and the match was stopped until the smoke cleared. Neither trainer, however, was allowed to talk to their Pokemon, which prevented Owen and Red from going over strategies. Once the smoke cleared, both Charizard remained still and continued to glare at each other, despite being exhausted.
"Let's wrap this up, Charizard," Red said to his starter, who nodded in agreement before taking to the sky. "Use Flare Blitz, and hold nothing back!" The black Charizard roared powerfully before he was enveloped in burning blue fire, and he performed a nosedive before straightening out just before he hit the ground. As the champion's Pokemon closed in on Owen and Charizard, the younger duo prepared their counterattack.
"Charizard, get ready to grab Charizard and use Seismic Toss," Owen said to his starter, who nodded in response. Suddenly Charizard threw his arms out and managed to stop the Flare Blitz attack dead in its tracks, and then he grabbed a hold of Red's Charizard before taking to the sky.
"Use Flamethrower to break free, Charizard!" Red's Charizard quickly opened his mouth and shot a wave of fire at pointblank range, causing Owen's Charizard to cry in pain. Owen suddenly felt a wave of pain wash over his body, and he nearly screamed, but somehow managed to hold it in. Feeling his Pokemon's pain, Owen acted quickly in an attempt to stop the Flamethrower attack.
"Spin and use Flamethrower, too, Charizard!" Owen countered. The teen and his opponent watched as Charizard began to spin as quickly as he could while using Flamethrower, which basically turned him and the other Charizard into a drill covered in fire. "Now descend at max speed!" Somehow, Charizard managed to hear Owen, and he kicked it into high-gear while flying straight towards the battlefield.
"Use Flare Blitz to make the impact even harder, Charizard!" Red screamed to his starter as the two Charizard fell from the sky and took the appearance of a comet. The blue fire was suddenly intensified as Red's Charizard performed a Flare Blitz, which burnt Owen and Charizard terribly, making both grimace in pain. Despite this, Charizard continued to crash towards the ground. Once he and Red's Charizard hit the ground, a column of spiraling blue fire shot 400 feet into the air and gale force winds sent Owen and Red flying off their feet. A massive explosion then occurred, and the entire stadium was once again filled in smoke. The two trainers waited for the results anxiously, and were ecstatic to see their Pokemon were still standing, albeit barely.
"Wow, that's incredible! Both of them managed to take all of that damage, and they're still standing!" Daniel exclaimed. "It's ridiculous how strong these Pokemon are." Everyone nodded in agreement while the crowd cheered for the two Charizard, and they continued to glare at each other before smiling slightly.
"Let's finish this thing, Charizard!" Owen shouted to his starter. "Use Thunder Punch!" Charizard grinned as his fist was covered in yellow electricity, but he suddenly grimaced before falling on his face, and the referee ran over to his side. Owen was so shocked by the sight that he wasn't able to say anything while Charizard desperately tried to push himself off the ground, and suddenly the sixteen year old felt all of the pain his Pokemon had suffered, which brought him to his knees. Surprisingly, Charizard rose back to his feet along with Owen, and the two stared at Red's Charizard and Red, respectively.
"Why are they just standing there?" Cindy asked in annoyance while the crowd fell silent. Her question was soon answered, as Charizard fell on his face once again, except he wasn't getting up. Suddenly, the crowd exploded with applause, and the referee raised his arms in the air, signaling the end of the battle.
"Owen's Charizard is unable to battle! That means Red is the winner!"
Owen simply watched as Red walked over to his Charizard, who had collapsed as soon as the battle was ended, and he fell to the ground in shock. Slowly, his friends approached him, and they waited for Owen to say something as he zapped Charizard into his Pokeball. He turned, a lost look on his face, and stared at his friends blankly before getting off the ground and looking at the scoreboard. All six of his Pokemon had fainted, and only one of Red's was standing, and only by a few seconds!
"Owen! Hey, Owen!" The sixteen year old snapped out of his thoughts and turned to see Red jogging over to him with his Charizard following behind very slowly. "That was the best battle I've ever had. You came closer than anybody before you." Those words rung in Owen's head, and the sense of failure and shame suddenly disappeared as a smile crept onto his face.
"Thanks, Red. You're Pokemon were like nothing I've ever seen before. You definitely deserve to be called the World Champion," Owen complimented while bowing respectfully.
"So does Owen still have a shot at being a champion?" Eddy asked out of nowhere, making Red laugh while Owen glared at the nine year old.
"Definitely. I think we have a league hearing or something along those lines later tonight, so I'll keep you posted on whatever comes up," Red informed Owen, who nodded thankfully. "And, Owen," the champion called as Owen started to walk away with his friends. The sixteen year old turned to face the nineteen year old, waiting for him to say something. "Even if you don't get to be a champion, I'd be more than glad to have you as a member of the Elite 4." Before Owen could say anything, Red walked away with his Charizard, who, surprisingly, nodded at Owen respectfully.

"That was some battle, wasn't it?" Brooklyn quizzed as she and Owen sat in lawn chairs and stared up at the night sky on the deck of their apartment, which was being paid for by the league. "I mean, even if you didn't win, you came closer than anyone else had. That's something to be proud of."
"I guess..." Owen said, trailing off while Molly laid on his chest, dead asleep. "It's just... I was so close. I was able to picture what it was like to be the World Champion, but then it all went away like that," Owen stated, snapping his fingers at the end of his sentence. "But at least I'll have a job with the Elite 4."
"That's incredible in and of itself," Brooklyn replied. "And not to mention good money." The young couple laughed in unison before stopping and sighing while still looking up at the sky. "You know, it's funny how just a few years ago we were just starting out our journeys."
"Yeah," Owen responded dreamily. "I was just another kid from Pallet Town with the goal of becoming something, and now I'm here. I could be working for the Elite 4, I've met some incredible friends, I have a daughter, and I met you," Owen stated, turning to look at Brooklyn. The blonde did the same and smiled at her boyfriend, and the two continued to stare at each other.
"And to think we only met two years ago," Brooklyn started, laughing almost immediately. "I really hated you at first." The girl continued to laugh while Owen chuckled at the memory of when they met. It was in Castelia City while Fate was trying to find where she was supposed to register for her first contest. That's when Owen literally bumped into Brooklyn.
"But then I stood up for you around JT, and I saved you from getting killed," Owen announced with a proud smile on his face.
"Yup. Then I followed you here, and you saved me again." The two sighed once again and continued to look at the stars, but the silence was interrupted when Owen's PokeGear began to ring loudly. The teen quickly put the device on silent so that it wouldn't wake his daughter up, and he looked to see who the call was from.
"That's weird," the Kantonian muttered.
"What?" Brooklyn quizzed.
"I don't know whose number this is. Oh well." Slowly, Owen opened the PokeGear, and Brooklyn rose from her chair to take Molly off her boyfriend's chest. The boy then got up from his seat and walked towards the other end of the balcony, pacing the entire time he was on the phone. Sensing Owen was going to be on the phone for a while, Brooklyn went inside and put Molly in her crib before walking back outside.
"Really!? I mean... uh-really?" Owen asked while clearing his throat to sound less shocked, which made Brooklyn giggle. "Oh-okay. Thank you for the information. I'm really honored, thank you so much." With that, Owen closed his PokeGear and leaned over the railing, which made Brooklyn walk over to him.
"Who was that?"
"It was Red..."
"What'd he say?"
"...You're looking at the new champion of the Kalos region!" Owen screamed before hugging the blonde. Brooklyn nearly shrieked at the information, and she began to jump up and down excitedly when the hug stopped. "Apparently it was a unanimous decision made by the five champions. They were so impressed with my battle against Red, they figured I was worthy!"
"That's incredible! I'm so proud of you!" The two teens quickly kissed before walking inside, and they began messaging everyone they knew, telling them about the news. "Wait, so does that mean we're going to live in Kalos?"
"I guess so. We still have the house in Laverre City, but I bet the Kalos League will end up giving us a house," Owen replied before he released his six Pokemon from the battle earlier in the night. All six were covered in bruises and looked to be in awful shape, which would take at least a fortnight to recover from. "Guys, I have some pretty big news, so you might want to follow me outside." As he walked outside with his Pokemon following, Owen beamed when he turned around and looked at the group of Pokemon. "Even though we lost earlier today, we've been chosen to become the champion of Kalos!"
The six Pokemon exploded with cheers and they tackled Owen. The cheering continued as they helped their trainer up, and the Pokemon began to congratulate each other. The celebrating went on throughout the entire night, and stopped when the sun finally rose. Owen slowly woke up and found himself passed out on the couch with several blankets on, and he groggily rubbed his eyes before turning the TV on.
"Breaking news: The search for the Kalos champion is officially over! Owen Plateau, a sixteen year old who nearly defeated Red, the World Champion, last night has reportedly been chosen to become the champion of the tattered region!" the news anchor screamed into the camera, which made Owen grin. As he rose from his slumber, the teen yawned and stretched his arms over his head before turning to see all six of his Pokemon passed out in various parts of the apartment. The sixteen year old laughed quietly before getting dressed, and he found a note posted on the fridge.
"We'll be at the trainer courtyard if you wake up in time"
Owen quickly withdrew the six exhausted Pokemon and he made his way all the way down the housing complex, and he saw Brooklyn, Molly, CJ, Fate, Daniel, Eddy, and Cindy sitting around a table.
"Hey!" they all cheered while Owen took a seat in-between Molly and Daniel.
"Congratulations, Owen!" Daniel exclaimed while patting the younger teen on the back. "I can't believe I got to travel with the champion of the Kalos region! That's so cool!"
"Haha, I guess so," Owen replied, trying to deflect the attention. "So, I was thinking," Owen started.
"Well this can't be good," Fate joked, poking fun at Owen, who laughed.
"As I was saying, there aren't any Elite 4 members in Kalos, so am I going to pick people, or will the Kalos League appoint people positions?" The others looked around at each other, puzzled by the difficult question, before they all gave up in frustration. "I'll have to talk to Red about that." The group continued to eat their breakfast, joking about things that happened on their journeys and how far Owen had come since he started, until CJ and Fate stood up and stretched their arms over their heads.
"Where are you guys going?" Owen inquired.
"We're heading back to Pallet Town to check on the lab, and then we're heading back to Shalour City," CJ answered.
"We really wish we could stay," Fate started, but she was stopped by Owen, who raised his hand as a sign of telling her to shut up. The girl smiled and nodded before hugging each of the five remaining people along with CJ, and they walked away together.
"So what are we going to do now?"
Damn, this chapter was tough to end, so I apologize if it didn't feel it had a proper conclusion. Anyways, next chapter will be the final one of the story, and it will be six months into the future. Till next time, peace out.
Next Chapter: "When One Door Closes...": Even after being the champion of the Kalos region for sixth months, Owen still faces a problem with one remaining spot in the Elite 4 that must be filled. No trainers, however, have shown him they're able to perform. When a familiar face shows up and gives Owen an idea of how to find the last member of the Elite 4. Sensing that the visitor was right, Owen converses with Brooklyn about what he should do. Who is this visitor, and what was their proposition?
