Brotherhood 4: After Lamia
"Merlin," Arthur's voice spooked Merlin into dropping all his armor. Merlin glared at the smirking King.
"What do you want?" Merlin said emotionlessly. Arthur crossed his arms across his chest and sauntered into the armory. The King walked with slow exaggerated movements; he was purposely trying to aggravate Merlin. Merlin ignored his friend and picked up the armor once more.
He was not in the mood to deal with Arthur, especially not after that stupid Lamia incident. Stupid Arthur, stupid Knight's didn't even have the courtesy to apologize to Merlin. Even if he didn't blame them for their actions, he at least hoped for a "I'm so sorry Merlin," maybe an "Are you alright Merlin?" or even a "Don't worry Merlin, we don't think you were saved by a girl."
Nope, they said nothing. They moved on pretended the event had never happened. He wasn't angry per say, but Merlin allowed himself the luxury of moping for a week. If Arthur had a problem with Merlin's attitude then he could just go su–
"You have a visitor." Arthur simply replied after watching Merlin furiously scrub down his armor. He paused and despondently looked up at the King. "She's waiting in the courtyard."
"She?" Merlin asked.
"Go on, take a look." Arthur shoved Merlin out of the armory and towards the stairs. Merlin was suspicious but followed the King nonetheless. Arthur paused at the final set of doors and paused to dramatically open them. Merlin rolled his eyes and took a peek.
"Sire…there is no one here,"
"Tsk, tsk, do you not know the meaning of patience Merlin?" Merlin rolled his eyes and conversed down the stairs. Not a moment latter the loud clatter of horses came from the giant arch way followed by Gwaine, Percival, Elyan and Leon who rode atop their horses like regal knights. But there was one more horse carrying a woman. A woman with soft motherly feature, crinkled honey colored eyes, and a familiar loving smile.
"Mother!" Merlin gasped. Hunith smiled at her son and pulled her horse to a stop. Merlin was beside her in a moment his arms already reaching for her. He helped her down and his mother pulled him into her embrace. Merlin felt tears pricking his eyes.
"We wanted to apologize earlier mate, really we did." Gwaine began. Merlin pulled away from his mother, his eyes steeled with caution. "But nothing could've made up for the way we treated you."
"So we decided to bring your mother," Leon added. "As an apology and because…"
"Because we wanted to show that you are one of us." Percival concluded, the gentle giant grinned. The knights circled around Merlin, their expressions apologetic. His eyes flickered to each of his friends and then to his mother. She was smiling at him. She put a comforting hand on his bicep.
"Forgive them Merlin. They've punished themselves enough." She whispered softly, her lovely eyes twinkling in pride for the wonderful friends her son had made. Now when his mother asked him like that, there was no way Merlin could refuse. He mouth twitched, fighting an amused smile.
"You're all clotpoles." He concluded philosophically. He heard the knights exhale a collective sigh of relief and then someone cuffed the back of his head.
"Still not a word Merlin!" Arthur chuckled. Merlin laughed and pulled his mother into his side.
I absolutely love Hunith! It made me sad that she was only seen in season 1 and that one episode in season 4. Also, this is my retribution for Merlin getting bullied by the knights after Lamia. Seriously, they should have apologized!
