Title: It's Like Magic
Author: Kiki1770
Rating: T for Language
Setting: Post Season 5
Summary: "It's been a month since Gwen passed away."
A/N: I recently read a beautiful love story about a human falling in love with a Demon that found her as a child and raised her. The story sort of ended with the two married and the human leaving the demon children after her death (Sorry for the spoilers), it got me wishing that the human didn't have to die and stayed by the human's side. It reminded of Merlin, which is were this drabble came from. It's really angsty but also happy in a way. Enjoy!
Angst 9: Eternity
He sat on the water's edge, watching the calm, serene lake with a blank expression. A gust of wind rushed past him, shaking the trees and making his short cropped black hair flutter against his still twenty year old face. Merlin caught a leaf in the palm of his hand and didn't bother looking up at the shadow beside him.
"It's been a month since Gwen past away." He told the shadow, dropping the leaf in his palm. "She was the last one…now they're all truly gone." His emotionless mask broke and broken expression adorned Merlin's face. Tears welled in his eyes but were locked because Merlin could truly never cry again. He'd seen Camelot falling after Arthur's death, and then he watched his friends pass away one by one. And when Guinevere died, something in Merlin broke.
He couldn't live eternity on his own. He just couldn't.
The shadow beside Merlin fluttered and sat in front of him. She put her fingers under his chin and forced him to look her in the eyes.
"It's okay to cry Merlin. You've lost so much." She whispered in that familiar sweet voice that had been guiding him for so long. "But you mustn't give up. Arthur will rise one day, and when that day comes, you must be here for him. You must be strong Merlin." She replied with conviction.
"Freya…" Merlin whispered and buried his head against her chest. "You're right. I know you are…b-but—"
"You won't be alone Merlin." Freya said, pressing a gentle kiss to his brow. "I'm coming with you." She said, weaving her hands around Merlin's. Merlin's jaw hung agape.
"B-but you can't leave the lake!" He sputtered in shock. Freya simple smiled and stood up, bringing Merlin up with her. With his hands in hers, they left Freya's confinement together.
"I-I don't understand?" Merlin whispered his voice thick with tears. Freya's smile softened and she gently cupped Merlin's face.
"I will walk eternity with you Merlin."
Hehe, reading that story put me in a bit of a mood, so I wanted to write this about Merlin and Freya. My idea was basically that since they couldn't be together while Merlin had to protect his destiny, why not after Arthur passed away? Freya being bound to the Lake of Avalon would make her immortal too wouldn't it? Well that was basically my idea.
Review, review, review.
