A/N: Hello everyone, I'm super sorry for the ridiculously late update, but I'm nearing the end of my Junior year in high school and things are getting a bit crazy. This will be my last update until the summer holidays begin. So this drabble was written in honor of Mother's day. All his life Arthur had never known the warmth of a mother's love. I wanted to rectify that in this drabble. Enjoy!

Random 4: To know a mother

"Thank you Hunith, as always, you were most hospitable." Arthur told her, a genuinely warm smile stretched across his face. He then took Hunith's hand and placed a soft kiss on the back side. Hunith chuckled at his actions.

"Oh Arthur, you need not thank me. Any friend of my son's is like a son to me." She chuckled warmly, a crinkle in her eyes and her laugh lines becoming evident. Arthur felt himself faltering for a moment.

"Y-you think of me…as a s-son?" He stuttered, a blush creeping up his neck. Hunith smiled and cupped his face in her hands.

"Of course." There was no hesitation in her voice as she kissed Arthur's forehead and pulled back with a comforting smile. Arthur felt tears in his eyes, and held Hunith's hands to his face, trembling and desperate to hold onto her warmth.

"I-I- umm t-thank you Hunith." Arthur finally managed to gasp. Hunith cocked her head to the side thoughtfully and wiped away a stray tear on Arthur's cheek. He could see it in her eyes, there was nothing but open love and welcoming comfort in there. Hunith really did care for him as she cared for Merlin. The thought did all kinds of funny things to Arthur's heart.

"If…if my mother were alive Hunith, I hope she would have been exactly like you." He finally said the words that he'd wanted to tell her since the first time they met in Ealdor. And he meant it to. Hunith was everything Arthur had ever wanted in his own mother. That she would accept him as a son to her despite the trouble he and his father had put her family through…it was truly humbling, as humbling as the fact that her son was still and probably always will be a brother in all but blood.

"Trust me Arthur, Ygraine is hundred times the woman I am." Hunith laughed good naturedly.

"You could have been twins" Arthur cracked, wryly. Hunith shook her head and ushered the King in for a modest meal.

I've always wanted to see a mother-son relation form between Arthur and Hunith. Arthur's always been so desperate to fill that whole in his life where his mother should have been. I hoped that Hunith would be the one to heal that. Hence this fic.
