True Colors
June 1978
"Melissa get Caroline!" Screaming this seemingly at the top of his lungs Luke Oliver rolled over on the couch to try and locate a better position as Caroline's screams were cut off by her mother picking her up out of the play pin.
"Why don't you get up and call daddy back? He's been on the line. Says he might have a job for you at one of his plants." Caroline spat as Luke made a sound.
"I am not working for your old man Caroline. I have a job. Can we please go one day with out fighting?" Luke asked as he stood from the couch and sighing began to pick up Caroline's toys.
"Yes if you agree to go to work for my daddy. The big break business trip you had some months back fell through. You haven't even heard from what's his name Keith since." Closing his eyes Luke shook the toys but before he could engage Melissa in one of there huge fights the door bell rang.
"Who is it?" Luke exclaimed as he dropped the toys and walked over to the door.
Opening it he stopped when no one met his roaming eyes "Well.." Trailing off abruptly when wailing met his ears of a baby he looked down.
Seeing a baby the could not be over a month old sitting there in a carrying bassinet he bent down to him or her "Hey there. Who are you?" Luke soothed as he found a note in the side of the basket and tore it open.
Dearest Luke,
I have brought you our son Thomas James Oliver. He was bone three weeks ago at an undisclosed hospital. I wish you all the best in the future with out son. He was bone in love between us. I am willing to bet that you do not even know my name or remember it as I was to drunk to remember yours that night so long ago at the dance club. We should keep it this way. Please do not look for me. Take care of our son.
Woman at the dance club
I have enclosed his birth certificate and other papers he might need in his life.
I'm sorry, so sorry
That I was such a fool
I didn't know
Love could be so cruel

Opening the door to there one story house Luke sighed as he heard Tommy screaming in his play pin "Melissa!" Calling for his wife Luke entered the cold house.
"Mel…" Words cutting off abruptly Luke stopped when he heard no foot steps and he saw that the house was half empty.
Scoping Tommy out of the play pin he went down the hallway to where his and Melissa's room was located at "Melissa."
Upon getting no response he traveled to the kitchen only to have Tommy start screaming again. Calming him he felt his forehead only to rear back when it was on fire. Reach the kitchen he saw the disarray and destruction as well as no food in the fridge. Sighing he slung the door to the fridge closed .
Walking back down the hallway to his room he sat Tommy down on his bed and pulled a duffel bag out of the closet. Packing it he grabbed Tommy and slinging the duffel over his shoulder walked out of the house. Not bothering with his father in law bought BMW he walked the five miles to the bus station. Buying a one way ticket to Las Angeles with cash he smiled at the attendant and tossed his wallet in the garbage can next to the door.

"Tommy! Get in here!" The four year old grimaced whenever his father called him like that it was bad news.
Patting his feet Tommy walked into the small but quant kitchen of there one bedroom apartment "We're moving again. This time to New York. Come here." Walking over to his father he stopped when he was at his fathers pant leg.
Picking Tommy up Luke sat him down on the counter "This move is very important just like all the rest of them. We need to be on our best behavior in New Your because I am up for a big promotion and raise at work." Narrowing his eyes at his son he picked him up off the counter and entered there living room.
Placing Tommy on the floor by the coffee table he instructed him "Bend over."
Shivering Tommy did as he was told and here the belt loops of his dad's belt clear as he dad pulled his belt off "Stay still."
Beginning to beat the four year old with the belt ruthlessly he didn't stop until Tommy lost consciousness.

Present Day
Sighing Luke took another sip of his bourbon My life. I swear…my son…sometimes. Thoughts trailing off he tossed the picture of Melissa back into the box from which is came. Had she found him? He had taken the moving out as nothing more then one of her stunts but he was still angered by her leaving his two year old son in a play pin sick.
Making a sound he took another sip of his drink and pressed play on the answering machine "Hi this is Kim. Tommy left some stuff at my house. He needs to come by and…" Cutting off the message he pressed the delete button.
"No new messages." BEEP.

Walking up the stairs he sighed as his father's voice rang through his head Advertising? Son there is no future is that! Why don't you just concentrate on getting your heart to calm down and then maybe you can go back into the marines. I don't want to see you throw your life away son!
Throw my life away. Throw my life away. Yeah dad I am making a six figure salary and live in a two story house by a lake. I think I am doing pretty good for myself. Wonder if that is why Melissa sent me all that stuff? To get back with me. After all I am making damn good money….bitch! That is why! You slut! Stopping when he reached the closet where Tommy was he downed the rest of his drink and opened the door needing company for the night.

Dragging Tommy down the hall in his arms he made it to his bedroom and then to his king sized bed. Depositing Tommy on it he quickly crawled over him and to his side of the bed. "Shut up Tommy." Luke spat when his son started to make noises.
Slapping his butt Luke dragged him over to him and undid his fly. There were no words as Luke pulled his son's pants down, undid his belt, and entered his son.
The dawn in Angel Grove was crisp and beautiful but Luke was not up for it. Hand falling over his, naked underneath the covers, son's face he moaned as he rolled over in the other direction. He fell back a sleep his son lost in his prison with his dad that he could not over come and would not over come.
Sorry
