Humor 12: Gossip

Merlin was worried. Guinevere was depressed. Guinevere was never depressed! Even Arthur noticed the change the queen's behavior and was scrambling around ordering servants to bring her presents. Merlin promptly cuffed him in the head told him the gifts don't solve everything.

So it was with great concern that they trampled through the entire castle when Guinevere suddenly disappeared. Arthur was steadily growing more and more anxious. Merlin frowned, and suggested they search the gardens – the secluded one behind the castle, exclusive to the friends of the crown. They heard their voices before they saw them.

"Really, Merlin did that for you?" Guinevere asked in mild surprise, her tone more cheerful than it had been in a while. Arthur held a finger to his lips, a gesture of silence. Merlin nodded and the pair of them hid behind a large bush of roses.

"Why are we hiding?" Merlin discretely asked the King.

"Just because," Arthur didn't bother explaining. He wanted to know why Guinevere was upset. He parted the bushes quietly, just enough for he and Merlin to see Guinevere talking to the servant Freya.

Freya gave the Queen a dreamy smile before replying. "He did. It was the happiest day of my life." She said fondly. Guinevere was seated on a stone bench, her cheeks flushed with excitement and Freya stood behind the Queen braiding small white flowers into her dark locks.

"I had no idea he was such a romantic." Guinevere giggled in response. Merlin felt the color drain out of his face. Arthur had to cover his mouth to keep from laughing at the manservant's face. He silently mouthed the word Girl! Merlin glared and punched the King's forearm. "You know there was this time when Arthur—" Guinevere paused to glance around conspiratorially and leaned in to whisper in Freya's ears. Freya's face turned bright red.

"I didn't know the king was the type!" Freya gasped in shock. This time Arthur paled and dreaded to think what Guinevere told her. Guinevere giggled.

"You are so naïve my dear."
