Gale's POV

"Have you seen her?" I ask the gas station manager.

"Hmm..." He squints and rubs his chin." I don't think so."

I ball my free hand up in a fist and say," That doesn't help."

"I'm sorry but I don't think I've seen her around here before," He apologizes.

"What about any blondes that looked like her?" I ask.

"No," He shakes his head.

"Fuck!" I yell and bang my fists on the counter.

"Hey, that cost me-" He begins.

I reach over the counter and grab him by the collar of his shirt.

"Now listen here you son of a bitch! Do you want to go to jail and lose this piece of shit you call gas station?!" I yell.

"Let go-" He begins.

"Tell me damn it!" I yell and start to see red.

"No," He shakes his head with eyes that are wide with fear.

"Then give me something I can work with," I growl and release him.

He straightens his shirt and says," Just give me a moment, I'll be back."

"Fucking liars," I mumble as I walk around the gas station.

I walk by the alcohol isle and grab a bottle.

"Hurry up, I got shit to do!" I yell as I open the seal.

He scurries out the back room and comes out with a stack of papers.

"I write down my customer's complaints about my gas station so I can make improvements." He says.

"Go on," I mumble before I take a swig.

"Maybe you'll find something here," He hands me the stack of papers.

"Was that so hard?" I raise a brow.

...

I take another drink of alcohol and rub my eyes.

"Sir, it's nearly closing time and-" The manager begins.

"Shut the fuck up and sit down!" I yell.

"But-" He stands up.

I take out my gun and point it at him in less than a second.

"I said sit down!" I yell.

He raises his hands and nods.

I sniff and continue looking at the papers.

"Where are you, you fucking bitch," I mutter.

Seconds later I see a date which was about a month ago.

"Hair dye smell in the bathroom.."

Katniss's POV

One day later...

"You can have my bedroom," I hear peeta say in a cheerful tone.

"But I always get the same room as always," I hear a little girl's disappointed voice.

"Jackie," I hear a grown man scold.

"That's what you get for spoiling her," I hear a woman's voice jokingly say.

"There's just someone staying in there right now," I hear Peeta say.

"Who is it?" I hear the little girl ask.

"Yeah, Pete, who is it?" The man's voice asks.

"A friend," Peeta replies.

My eyes shoot open just as I realize I'm not dreaming.

"Is it Finnick?" The woman asks.

"Yeah, is it uncle Finnick?" The little girl asks.

"No, it's not one any of you know," He says.

"Well then can we meet him?" The man asks.

"It's... It's not a him," Peeta murmurs.

"Shit Peeta! You're living with a chick who you aren't-" The man begins.

"Rye!" Peeta hisses.

That must be his brother. And he did mention that his niece was coming over for the summer.

"Who's the lucky lady?" The woman asks.

"Is it your girlfriend?" the little girl says in a teasing voice.

"No," Peeta says in a firm tone." She's just a friend."

"Your cheeks beg to differ little bro," Rye teases.

"Oh stop it Rye, I think it's great that your brother is finally getting over-" The woman begins.

"Stop," I hear peeta say in an annoyed tone.

"Peeta and his girlfriend sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love then comes marriage-" The little girl begins to taunt, causing my cheeks to turn red.

"Jackie," Her mother says in a stern, yet amused voice.

Before I can hear anything else, my eyes slowly start to close.

...

I wake up and I realize I'm laying on a blanket in a meadow filled with primroses.

The sound of children's laughter causes my head to turn to the left.

I see a girl with ocean blue eyes and dark hair picking flowers. She can't be more than seven. The young boy who chases after her however, seems to be about three maybe four. His stormy grey eyes and blonde hair stand out.

Wait- Dark hair.. and stormy grey eyes...? I have dark hair and grey eyes...

Before I can react, I feel someone's strong arms wrap around my waist.

I look down and see that my stomach is incredibly swollen.

I gasp and my eyes widen.

"What's wrong?" I hear a soft voice ask.

I look up and I'm immediately speechless.

Peeta- Peeta and I had kids? We- How- But-

"Is he kicking again?" He asks and places his palms against my stomach.

"I- but-" I start to stutter.

"Relax, it's just a dream," He whispers.

"But-" I begin.

"Sh..." he whispers in my ear. As he pulls back, I feel his lips brush my cheek causing a tingling sensation to form.

"Peeta..." I begin but my words die off in my throat.

"You're safe," He whispers and leans in.

...

I sit up gasping for air as I feel my face turn incredibly red. I just had a dream about having a picnic with peeta and carrying his child, while watching our other two kids play.

"Hey, are you alright?" I hear beside me.

I jump and put a hand over my heart.

"You scared me," I reply but don't quite meet his eyes. I'm extremely embarrassed of what happened.

He chuckles but says in a nervous voice," My niece arrived this morning."

"Oh?" I reply.

"Would you like to meet her?" He asks.

"I'm- I don't know." I reply. It would be too weird for her. She'll be meeting me and then I'll leave soon.

"She's not going to bite," He says in a teasing tone.

"It'd be weird," I reply and get up for the first time in a day in a half.

Whatever Peeta gave me seemed to do the trick with the illness.

"How would it be weird?" He asks.

"You know why," I reply, forgetting any embarrassing feeling I felt towards him.

He stays silent for a while as I grab a bag.

"I can cook you something if-" He begins.

"I'm not hungry," I reply with tears in my eyes.

The feeling then sinks in. I don't want to leave. I know I have to but I don't want to.

"Hey," I feel him place his hands on my shoulders.

"I just- I'm sorry," I angrily mutter and wipe my eyes.

"Stay," He replies moments later.

"I can't," I shake my head and start to pack.

"Yes you can," He turns me around so I can face him." You can stay here, keep on working at the bakery with me-"

"It's not that simple," I hiss.

"I-" He begins.

"He can come looking for me here and you know it." I give him an intense look." Now that your niece is here, it's way too dangerous. You don't know what he's capable of."

He lets out a cold laugh and says," If he dares to think about hurting you or my niece, he'll have to go through me."

"Like I said, it's not simple," I say, ignoring the fact that he said he'd defend me.

"They may not be but that's why you do the best you can with what you have." He inches towards me." You have me Jessica, you have Annie, and you have Finnick. If you leave, your just letting all that go and then no one will be able to help you."

He has a point.

"Stay," He says and I realize how close our faces are.

I open my mouth to talk but no words come out.

"Uncle Peeta, I-" A little girl barges into the room.

I jump back and hit the dresser. I accidentally knock down stuffed animals that peeta won me in the fair.

The little girl starts to giggle and covers her mouth. She has bright blue eyes and light brown hair.

"Jackie, I'll be out in a minute," He says in a gentle voice.

"Okay," She says in a sing song voice before she leaves.

Images of Gale finding me immediately run through my mind.

I shudder and snap back into reality.

Peeta turns to me with a hopeful look in his eye.

"I...I better hurry up if I want to leave before dark." I turn back around.

...

"Then I did a spin and landed on both feet!" Jackie says in an excited tone.

"You must be one amazing ballerina," Peeta compliments in an amused tone.

I enter the kitchen and say," I just wanted to say bye."

"Right," Peeta says in an emotionless voice.

"Where are you going?" Jackie asks.

"I don't know," I give her a small smile." Where do you think I should go?"

"Well," She looks hard into thought." I think you should go to a happy place. Beaches are happy."

"I'll see what I can do," I give her a small smile.

"I'll walk you to the door," Peeta says.

"Can you stay for a while longer?" Jackie asks.

"I don't.. I don't.." I begin.

"We were just about to go get ice cream and then go see a movie," She gives me hopeful eyes that are so similar to prim's.

"I..." I trail off and look at Peeta, who seems to have to same look as Jackie.

"It's just for a while," Peeta replies.

"Alright," I give in. A few hours wouldn't hurt.

...

"How old is she?" I ask him as she excitedly points to what she wants on her ice cream.

"Eight," He replies.

"- and some hot fudge," She ends her rant.

The employee chuckles and adds a scoop of hot fudge.

"What about you my lady?" He asks after he hands her, her ice cream.

"I'm fine," I shake my head.

"Jessica," Peeta says in a stern tone.

I sigh and try to hide the smirk on my face.

"I don't know, do you want to help me Jackie?" I ask her and she nods excitedly.

...

It turns out, Jackie is a huge fan of candy on her ice cream.

"Surprised her teeth haven't fallen out?" Peeta jokes.

I laugh and nod.

"Uncle Peeta, can we go to the park?" Jackie asks.

"Then we'll be late for the movie," Peeta says.

"I can't sit still," She replies.

I laugh and say," Maybe it was all that candy."

"Alright, but don't talk to strangers!" Peeta calls after her.

Peeta and I find a seat where we can watch Jackie perfectly fine. She seems to make friends easily. Just like Prim.

"Where are you headed to?" Peeta asks in a hushed tone.

"I might just go to the beach," I reply.

He doesn't say anything for a while and before he can I hear Jackie's cries.

Peeta and I immediately run to where she's at.

"What's wrong?!" Peeta says in a worried tone.

"I fell off the playground and landed on the woodchips," She sniffs and holds her now bleeding knee.

I sigh in relief just as Peeta lifts her up.

...

"I like you Jessica," Jackie says as I clean her knee.

"I like you too," I give her a small smile.

Peeta is making dinner for themselves. I won't be joining them.

"You know, my Uncle Peeta likes you," she says causing me to freeze for a moment.

"Of course, we're friends," I shrug off her comment.

"No, silly," she laughs." He likes you like a girlfriend."

My cheeks get red and I try to locate the band aid.

"I think you should just stay, and get married to him and have a gazillion bab-" She starts to rant.

"Jackie, dinner's ready," Peeta enters the room.

I quickly put on the band aid and say," You're good to go."

She wraps her skinny arms around me and says," Bye Jessica."

I hesitantly wrap an arm around her," Bye Jackie."

She pulls away and I say," Be good to your uncle."

She nods and walks out the room.

"Bye," I reply.

"Wait," I hear him say.

He turns me around and pulls me into a tight embrace.

"If you need anything, call me," He hands me a note with his phone number.

He gives me a quick peck on the cheek causing me to look away.

"I should get going," I say in a hushed tone.

"Yeah," He says sadly.

I walk to the front door and hear the sound of clapping outside.

I knit my brows together and open the door. It's raining really hard.

"That means you can stay!" Jackie cheers.

Gale's POV

"Hello?" I hear a drunken voice.

"Thom, I need you to do me a favor," I say.

"What is it, Hawthorne?" He asks.

"Clean out a room for me, I'm going to be in town for a while," I say before I end the call.
