Chapter 11: Bonfire

Rorik POV

Slowly, Rorik regained consciousness. On the TV the credits were rolling for 'The Fault In Our Stars' and the room was dark .He felt a weight on his torso. He glanced over and saw Erin using his chest as a pillow. A look at the clock revealed that it was nearly 9:00 pm. "Di immortales !" Rorik had to focus to keep from shooting up and waking the blond that was so peacefully resting her head. Bonfire started at 9:30. Rorik placed his hand on shoulders and gently woke her up.

"C'mon. Bonfire is in a half hour. " Erin simply groaned into his chest as a response. "Really. Chiron will be pissed if we're not there."

"But I'm comfortable"

"Well, you can use me as a pillow again at bonfire" Rorik said, smirking as Erin started to realize that what she had thought was a pillow.

"Fine." In resignation the blonde rolled of the off the couch, landing on her feet as graceful as ever.

Erin POV

The night air was cool against Erin's face as Rorik opened the door. Rorik stepped out after her and locked the door. The light from the bonfire was glowing in the distance. They took their time wandering over to the campfire. The rushing water from the river provided a cool breeze as the duo walked over bridge to get to the amphitheatre. Erin looked up at Rorik as they walked. "Gods… He's amazing" She thought. His shaggy brown hair was blowing ever so slightly from the rivers breeze. Erin decided to try something. After mustering her courage for a moment, she took hold of Rorik's hand. "Calm down !" She mentally yelled at her self. Erin's heart beat so hard she was nervous that Rorik could hear it. "He held mine at the med tent." She thought, trying to calm herself. Erin's heart skipped a beat as Rorik gently gave her hand a squeeze. They continued their walk to the bonfire in a comfortable silence, although both of their minds, and hearts, were going a million miles a minute.

Rorik POV

"The breeze feels nice" Rorik thought to himself. This was about the most peaceful moment Rorik had had in a very long time. In the months on the road that it took him to reach Camp Half-Blood things went to hell on a daily basis. He would come back to wherever he happened to be camping that day and find that a wolf had eaten his food, or a group of soldiers had caught wind of him and were patrolling the woods. Rorik had felt safe almost immediately after arriving at CHB and things had been good. But it wasn't until now that he fully grasped how good things were. He didn't have a care in a world, he had an amazing friend and he was head over heals for his other friend. Things couldn't be better.

-PAGE-BREAK-

Erin POV

The flame of the fire was higher than Erin had ever seen it. Towering a dozen feet above the pit and a bright, burning mixture of oranges, yellows and reds yet some how not to hot. She had graciously taken Rorik up on his offer to use him as a pillow…. again. Out of the corner of her eye she had seen Alejandro collecting money from a couple of other Hephaestus kids but was too comfortable to inquire further. She was content to just listen to some of the other Apollo kids and rest her head. Gods knew she needed it. Before she could fall into a peaceful sleep, a loud crack from the woods jolted her awake.

Alejandro POV

8:45 pm

Alejandro walked soft footedly up the two steps up to the new deemed Akatosh cabin. Careful not to cause the wood to creek as it might give him away. He peered into one of the two windows that flanked the front door. "Jackpot !" He thought to himself. Rorik was asleep on his couch with Erin also asleep, with her head on his chest. "They're gonna hate me for this, but they'll get over it." Alejandro raised his camera and snapped a couple of pictures the two sleeping together. The self-appointed second in command of the Aphrodite cabin, Jessie, was willing to pay money for pictured of potential couples, as was Olivia. Although Olivia wanted them for blackmail instead of for matchmaking purposes.

9:55 pm

Bonfire was coming to a close and it was time to do business. He casually walked over to where Jessie and Olivia were sitting.

"Hello you two."

"Sup Ale. You have anything good ?" asked Olivia.

"Oh ! Yeah ! Anything super cute !?" answered the daughter of Aphrodite.

"Better than you hope for." Alejandro reached into the back pocket and took out the 4 pictures. Both the girls smiled. Jessie in joy, Olivia also in joy. But for a more sinister reason. "I believe you two owe me ? Remember, the rate is $25 for a picture of this quality" The daughter of the thief god grumbled as she handed of the $50 while Jessie was more optimistic. Then there was a large crack in the woods.

Rorik POV

In the woods behind where Rorik was sitting appeared a red headed teen girl. At first glance Rorik knew something was off. After a moment he looked at her eyes. They were all green. "Oh damn. The Oracle." He had, like many current campers never seen the Oracle. But he, again like most campers, thought she lived in her tricked out cave. While Rorik was in mid thought the Oracle began to speak.

"Three companions shall venture west.

Until they face a final test.

To free a friend they must be the best

Or they will all be laid to rest

Unless the Akatosh saves the quest"

After the Oracle has spoken her eyes dimmed and the girl fell face-first onto the ground. Chiron trotted up and extended a hand to help her up.

"I did it again, didn't I ?" Sighed the Oracle.

"Yes, Rachel. You did. But do not fret. We will deal with it. All campers go back to your cabins ! The night is over !" All head-campers report to the big house immediately to discuss the prophecy"

"Well this is going to be interesting"
