Chapter 12: Departure
Rorik POV
Unlike most of the other head campers who were grumbling about why the meeting couldn't wait till morning, Rorik had no such qualms. Clearly this involved him with it mentioning Akatosh and all, and it looked like he could possibly get some answers to the million questions that were swirling in his head.
The big house study was warm compared to the early November nights as the head campers of the cabins, minus Zeus, Hades , Hera and Artemis of course, gathered around the ping pong table and drank cocoa and conversed. Most now wore a serious look as unlike when they were walking up.
"Attention" spoke Chiron, now in wheel chair form, "It appears we have a new prophecy. Let us dive in. Any thoughts ?"
"Well, clearly it involves Rorik." said Olivia
"For once I agree with her" added Nick, " I guess that means he's leading the quest. Or going on it at least."
"Yes. But what puzzles me is the line 'to free a friend'. No ones been on a quest since Rorik got here and I doubt he know any other Demigods." Said Ava Lu, the Athena cabin's head camper.
"Sadly, I can answer that." Replied Chiron. "The hero we are looking for is Linkin Di Angelo. Thalia and Nico Di Angelo's son. He left some time ago for Camp Jupiter but never arrived. His father confirmed he's not dead, so we should assume he is the 'friend'."
"Then who is he captured by ?" Rorik asked.
"Probably by the military. Linkin is one of the most powerful demigods ever so I highly doubt a monster could capture him. And why would they even want to take him alive when they can just kill him ?" Answer Antigone. "And it sounds like he's being held somewhere out west. Probably in Wyoming, that's where the anti-demigod branch of the military is based."
"That just leaves the part where we all die and the part with a some huge obstacle. Great." Rorik responded sarcastically. "Absolutely great."
"Well there's not much detail. All we can assume about the rest of the prophecy is that there will be a big obstacle, it might kill you, whether it does or doesn't hinges on you." Replied Gillian Frios (the Ares cabin head camper) as though it was a common occurrence.
"I guess that it then. Rorik, I advise you depart shortly, preferably sometime tomorrow. You will also need to decide who to bring with you on the quest." Concluded Chiron. "Everyone is dismissed. Rorik, I advise that you get a good nights rest. You'll need it."
_PAGE BREAK_
The light shown through the windows of Akatosh cabin. "This could be my last day in a bed. Might as well enjoy it." Rorik was about to roll back over for a couple more minutes of sleep but before his head could hit the pillow there was a loud banging on his front door.
" Conseguir el Hades o si será muy tarde para el desayuno ! Rorik ! Wake Up !" Shouted Alejandro from the other side of the door. Rorik didn't respond. Alejandro decided he needed to employ drastic measures. "Erin will be there !"
"You're a bastard Ale! Tue es usted un bastardo !" Yelled back Rorik. But all Alejandro did was smirk, he knew Rorik didn't mean anything by it. "For a big guy he's pretty sensitive when it comes to her" The spaniard thought. Rorik climbed out of bed and put on a simple pair of blue jeans, a snow white T-Shirt and a black hoodie with a silver symbol of Akatosh over the left breast and headed outside into the brisk November morning. A lot of campers were wearing heavy jackets while Rorik was fine in his hoodie thanks to being his dad being Nordic. He couldn't blame them though. New York is cold in November, around 45 degrees.
The pavillion was still packed with campers who were getting breakfast and socializing when Rorik and Ale got there. After getting their breakfasts they went to sit at their respective tables. Rorik had got two biscuits, some gravy, bacon and some cocoa. "I'm really gonna miss this food" . Chiron trotted up to the front of the pavillion.
"Attention campers. I promise will not keep you from your food long. But, it is time for Rorik to select his companions for the quest." Rorik had spend much of the last night thinking this through. Swiftly he made his way up to where Chiron was standing.
"Ok guys. As you all probably have realized, the prophecy last night was directed at me. And let me make this clear before I choose. I am not forcing you to come with me. I am only asking. Now, Alejandro, do you accept?"
Alejandro stood and made his way to where Rorik was standing. "It would be my pleasure"
"Erin ? Will you ?"
The blonde also walked up to where Rorik was standing. "yes"
"Well, thats is that. I would suggest that you all go to begin packing. You leave as soon as you are ready." Chiron said.
_PAGE_BREAK_
The three assembled at the top of Half-Blood and took inventory. Aside from a couple pairs of clothes each, Ale had brought a tool kit and his 3DS. Go figure. Erin had brought her set of duel knives, her bottomless backpack (pretty much like Hermione's from Harry Potter) and plenty of arrows. Rorik brought nothing except for a journal.
Alejandro stood up. "You guys are probably wondering why I told you to leave your weapons in the armory. Well this is why." He held out his hand and revealed …. jewelry ? Two rings, a necklace and a watch and a small 6 toothed gear.
"What's this ?" Asked Rorik.
"NO WAY !" Said Erin, clearly having some clue of what was happening. "Ale, you serious did this ?"
"Most certainly. And they're gifts. Erin, this is yours." He handed her the necklace. It was on a simple silver chain and had a bright yellow stone in the center. "Put it on and hold the stone." Erin did as she was asked and as soon as her hand closed around the stone, the little yellow stone grew into a impressive recurve bow. Erin gapped. "Rorik, your next." Ale held out to steel rings that had a simple designs of crossed swords on them. "When you put them on tap them with your thumbs." When Rorik pressed his thumbs to the rings they too began to grow. But instead of bow, Rorik held two 3 and a half foot bronze blades.
"Dude. This is crazy. How did you even do this ?"
"By the power of my awesomeness…. and the rest of the Hephaestus cabin. But that it." Ale revealed the final pieces of magical weaponry. The 6 toothed gear and the watched. The spaniard strapped the watched onto his right wrist and held the gear in his left. With a squeeze of the gear and the press
of a button on the watch they morphed. The gear expanded and became a shield while the watch became a one-handed bronze war axe.
"All you have to do is repeat the motion and they shrink back down." As Ale finished speaking Chiron trotted up to group with Argus in tow.
"Rorik, Erin, Alejandro. There is not much I can say besides good luck, and be smart. Argus will take you as far as Pittsburgh. From there you will be on your own. Good luck" The group had started down the hill towards the road where a large black SUV was parked when Rorik felt Chiron put a hand on his shoulder.
"Before you go I have one gift for you." Chiron handed Rorik an old leather bound book, small enough to fit in his pocket. "This is they key to you mastering your power. It contains all of the dragon phrases known to man. Practice, you might very well need them. Now go. Your friends are waiting."
The three quest members all climbed into the SUV and Argus began driving away from camp. They all watched as the only home that most of them had ever known shrank away over the horizon.
