The dragon reared back and let loose with an thunderous roar. In response the building rattled, nearly knocking the entire group off their feet. It snapped it's jaw out at them, nearly catching Alejandro in foot. Rorik and Alejandro drew their weapons and charged the dragon, dodging left and right while Erin pelted the creature with arrows. Richard dove over a jet of fiery breath as he scrambled towards the large machine that he had been working on earlier.
"Just give me another 30 seconds !" Yelled Richard, feverously typing commands into the large machine. The three questers continued to fight off the giant scaled creature off to the best of their abilities, having to stay light on their feet to avoid the flurry of attacks from the Dragon's jaw, breath, claws, wings and tail. Rorik ran and jumped up onto one of the Dragon's rear legs, slashing it repeatedly in the back. It roared and released another column of fire from its maw. The fire scorched her arm as Erin dove out of the way.
"Erin !" Rorik yelled out to her. She was on the sitting on the ground in shock of the horrible burn all along her left arm.
"Okay, it's ready. Here we go !" Richard slammed his fist down on a large button on the machine. The cylinder on the machine began to spin at an incredible rate. Vibration and rattling loud enough that the very roof of the building began to shake. There was a large flash then the dragon fell limp.
Rorik ran over and held Erin in his arms, quickly digging out square of ambrosia from Erin's bag and fed it to her. The horrible charred skin that was the outside of her left arm slowly faded until it appeared to be a regular, albeit still painful looking, red burn. Her eyes flickered opened before closing again as she passed out.
Rorik let out a sigh of relief before shifting his gaze to Richard"Di Immortales Richard ! What the fuck was that ?" He screamed. "You nearly got her killed !"
"Dude, relax. She lived " Richard replied.
"Relax. Relax ! You joking. You joking right ? How the hell am I supposed to relax when I just nearly saw the girl I love get burned alive !?" Richard stared for a moment, obviously at loss for words as it dawned on Rorik to what he had just admitted.
Alejandro laughed before speaking. "Dude, you are so damn lucky that she's out for the count"
Rorik laughed a bit in spite of himself. "Yeah, I guess I am. And I'm sorry, Richard. It's not your fault we had to fight. And I would have been stupid to think that not one of us would get at least hurt on this quest."
"No, I get it. I've been in a …. similar situation. Now come on. We probably don't have long before it wakes up."
"Wait what ?" Asked Ale.
"What ? You think I killed that thing ? Hades no. Can't ride it if it's dead." Said the son of Hephaestus. "I just used some really heavy tranqs. Have a look." He pointed over to the dragon where, sure enough, there were four large darts, each about the size of Rorik's bicep, sticking out of its side. "Each of those darts holds enough etorphine and acepromazine maleate to knock out an elephant. It's the stuff they use in heavy duty tranquilizer guns."
"I… I don't even know where to begin…" stuttered Ale.
"How 'bout we start with how we avoid it trying to kill us ?" suggested Rorik.
"Oh, that's the easy part." said Richard. "Chiron flipped through some old texts and found out that the last dragonborn before you used a shout called Bend Will to get a dragon to fly him to fight some guy named Miraak. I figure we just use the same shout to get him to fly for us."
"You said 'us'. That makes it sound like you're coming with us." Said Ale.
"Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that. Chiron told me to head out west to meet up with a rebel group. Said that they lost their mechanic in an ambush so they need a new one. And trust me when I say, I like to ride in style." He walked back out from behind the oversized tranquilizer gun trying to pull a ungodly large saddle behind him. At first glance it looked around 6ft by 8ft. It looked like a padded oval with small barriers around the outside (A/N It's Oppa's saddle. That's practically what it is). "Come one little brother, give me a hand mounting it up on our gracious pilot. And Rorik, after you done with your girlfriend you should probably look up that Bend Will shout and get ready for when big, grey and scaley wakes up."
Rorik pulled out the little book that Chiron had given him and began flipping through it. 'Aura Whisper, Battle Fury, Become Ethereal, Ah. Bend Will.' He took a moment to take in the small, sharp looking text that was dragon tongue. Somehow it all made sense to him. Erin had explained that greek demigods could read and speak ancient greek and the same for Roman demigods and latin. Rorik assumed that the same principle apllied for him and dragon. 'Gol Hah Dov' the book read. But to Rorik it meant 'Earth Mind Dragon'.
Rorik called over to Richard who was just finishing strapping the saddle onto the dragon's back. "I found it !"
"Good. The chemicals should being wearing off in a minute or so, so get ready." Said Richard as he hopped down from the now set and cinched saddle.
Another minute passed and the dragon's eyes slowly opened, just as Richard had predicted. It let loose yet another of it's thunderous roars and began lighting a fire in its mouth.
"Now Rorik !" Yelled Richard.
"Right ! GOL HAH DOV !" Shouted Rorik. A flash a gold light formed and flowed into the dragon. The fire in its mouth slowly died away until the dragon simply stood still, not moving a muscle. It was simply staring Rorik straight in the eye.
"Dovahkiin" It said, its voice sounding like the rumble of a storm.
"Yes, I am Dovahkiin." Said Rorik in reply.
A thoughtful look appeared on the dragon's face as it took a second look at Rorik, sniffing deeply. The look dissipated and the Dragon spoke again. "No. I was wrong. You are not Dovahkiin. You are more. You do not simply have the soul of a dragon, but a dragon's heart as well. We are both sons of Akatosh and I am Nokholvir. How may a I serve you … Zeymah ?"
Rorik looked shocked as the meaning of the work sunk in and took a step back. Bit by bit he regained his composure and looked the dragon back in the eye, taking a large step towards the dragon.
"My friends and I require transportation out to the west. Can you provide that for us ?"
"Certainly. Climb upon and we shall depart."
"Thank you Zeymah, Brother." The four of them, plus the strange parrot that Richard insisted upon bringing, settled into the saddle. They leaned up against the barrier and braced as Nokholvir began flap his powerful wings. They ascended rapidly into the clouds.
"Rorik !" Screamed Erin, who had awoken as they were loading the saddle. "We can't fly ! Zeus will kill us !"
Rorik laughed before wrapping his arm around her. "Don't worry. The nordic gods predate the greek gods and are even more powerful. As long as we're on Nokholvir we'll be fine. It's like our own personal bubble of nordic-ness.
Erin calmed down some what as Nokholvir flew towards the now setting sun.
