I really, really need to rewatch Tarzan. What a film.
Thanks to J. APPLEGATE for getting my butt in gear to write this song. :)
You'll Be In My Heart (Tarzan) – Morrigan
She looked like any other young mother taking shelter from the storm. Any passer-by would assume her husband had died in the Blight, and might even have tried to reach out to her. But they would find themselves suddenly shaking their head and wondering where they were, and they would have forgotten the strange woman in the purple hood.
The wind and rain buffeted around them, but not one drop or gust hit the mother and child beneath the tree. Morrigan's arms cradled her baby, her pale, purple eyed baby, to her breast, shushing it while concentrating on warming the air in the sphere she'd created to shelter them, and on warding off strangers.
"Nothing will harm you, young one," she murmured into her son's ear. "I shall not allow it. 'Tis but nature around us – see?" She held him up to see the leaves rattling in the gale, and the raindrops dancing on puddles. His eyes went wide as he heard the song of the storm, and his tiny pink lip curled. Morrigan chuckled. "This is our home, young one. You were born from these Wilds, as was I. You shall one day make it your own."
The baby began to snuffle, and Morrigan pulled him close again. His little face tucked into her neck as she began to hum. She couldn't remember Flemeth ever singing to her as child – but then, she was determined to be a mother as unlike Flemeth as it were possible to be. And the babe did seem to sleep when she sang, and did not care if the notes wavered, or her voice cracked – and she did secretly enjoy it.
"Come, stop your crying," she soothed, rubbing circles on his back, "it will be alright.Just take my hand, hold it tight.I will protect from all around you – I will be here, don't you cry…"
The baby was already quietening. She rocked him gently, and for a split second, the image of a man with her son's dark hair flashed into her mind. She waved it away. Now was not the time for such nonsense.
"For one so small, you seem so strong," she noted, her thumb drawing light patterns through his downy black hair. "My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm. This bond between us can't be broken – Iwill be here don't you cry."
Being a mother was strange indeed. Her babe loved her – she had done nothing to earn his love, or gain his trust – yet she had it, implicitly and unexpectedly. A glow filled her heart and spread through her body as she heard his quiet snores at her ear. A glow as like she had not felt since… Not since then.
"For you'll be in my heart," she sang quietly, closing her own eyes and leaning back till she lay on the ground. Her magic had stopped it from becoming sodden, and the grass was soft enough to lay the baby cradled into the crook of her arm. "Yes, you'll be in my heart," she crooned, smiling. "From this day on, now and forever more."
Morrigan stroked his hair, cuddling him close. "You'll be in my heart," she repeated, "no matter what they say. You'll be here in my heart, always…" She felt the tug of the Fade as she surrendered herself to sleep, her arm tight around her baby. Nothing would ever come to harm him as long as she lived.
"Always…"

I enjoy writing Morrigan. I could probably have gone on for ages waxing poetical with this one, but I kept it short and sweet - so I might try and do a long one next. We'll see how I feel.
The original idea for this song was F!Aeducan and Gorim, as I was planning on using Morrigan and the God Baby for 'My Lullaby' – but thank god I didn't, because writing cute mummy Morrigan is extremely cathartic.
Up Next: All he ever wanted was to go and play.
