I don't own Percy jackson or Elder Scrolls
The fall wind blew gently in across the lawn, carrying the smell of s'mores that cooked on the bonfire. Erin stood in the middle of the lawn. She knew what would happen, she had relived this evening countless times before. She knew that the instant that her mom asked her for the graham crackers that men would kick down their gate. Her mom would try to protect her from the onslaught of bullets by standing in front of her only to be riddled with bullets that were intended for Erin. Her mom's bloody body landed at her feet and stained Erin's shoes with her mother's blood. The last words she spoke, although just barely a whisper, rang in Erin's ears.
"I love you. Now run."
Erin's eye flicked open. 'That's right. Just a nightmare'. She moved her hands and felt the scars from when the soldiers had chased her into the forest. All over her body. One on her right bicep, two on the left. Another from where a bullet had passed straight through her shoulder, a fifth on her right side. And the worst, all over her back from where a grenade had gone off and peppered her back with shrapnel.
It was dark outside and no light shone through the window, leaving the Apollo Lodge pitch black. The only thing Erin could clearly see was the heavy snow that was falling outside.
She knew that if she were to go back to sleep that the nightmare would just repeat, that's how it went. If she had it once, the nightmare would state for the night. She gathered a spare blanket from the closet and slipped on her shoes.
Erin's assumptions about it being cold outside were right. Once outside the warmth of the lodge, it felt as if her entire body was encased in ice. 'Rorik would probably be comfortable out here sunbathing' she smiled to herself. Her cheeks felt a bit warm at the thought of the nordic boy.
Rorik was staying in the Hermes Lodge which was directly across from the Apollo. Not a long walk, but the freezing snow and seemingly sub-zero temperatures made the walk feel as if it were miles.
Finally she reached the Hermes Lodge. Inside it felt warm, a nice change of pace from the outdoors. Erin could just barely make out Rorik lying on a couch across the room. She walked over and gestured for him to make room. He obliged and she lay down facing him. His body warmed her own freezing one.
Erin tucked her head into his chest and felt him wrap his arms around her. For the first time in longer than she could remember she felt safe.
""Thank you" Whispered Erin. "Sometimes …. Sometimes the nightmares are too much."
Soon she began to fade into sleep. But before she was completely asleep Rorik spoke.
"Anytime. I will always be here when you need me. Becau-" Before he could finish, she was asleep. And for once, she didn't have more nightmares. Because she was with the soul she loved.
Hey guys. So, I know. It's short, it's fluffy, it's late. I get it. And I'm sorry. I have a idea of what I want to happen, I just don't know how to make it flow to that plot point. That's why this is bit shorted. That and another round of standardized testing hs hit. As well as my spring sport. So I get home from testing then 4 days of the week have to turn around and go to sports. Really though, sorry that this is shorter. Who am I kidding. This is ⅓ the length of the last chapter. Well, next chapter will probably be out in about 6-8 days. Later.
