Well ladies and Gents I can say that I have made a new achievement, this is the first chapter of FOW in 2015 and it is in February! Wow I never thought I could leave such a long gap between chapters. Anyway I hope this was worth the wait everyone, especially after the last chapter.
Anyway…..enjoy
Blurring the Lines
"Breaking News, Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four has been recently wheeled into Intensive care in the emergency wing of the New York Presbyterian hospital, eye witnesses say that Mr Strom was attacked and brutally injured by a group of New York citizens on an account of the events in Chicago. We don't have any word on the seriousness of Mr Storm's injuries but we do know that four of his attackers were also wheeled into the emergency wing a quarter of an hour afterwards, suffering blunt force injuries and broken limbs. We'll notify you as more news comes in"
Susan switched off the news as she sat at her Brother's bedside. Johnny had bandages covering the top of his head and a black eye emerging from his left eye. All things considered, he could have looked worse. Susan on the other hand had only ran out of tears from weeping over her brother's condition.
Meanwhile outside of the room, Viktor was sat down on one of the chairs with his hands clasped in front of his face, splatters of Johnny's blood staining his jacket after flying him over to the Hospital. Ben had also arrived quick sharp and was stood right outside of the window, watching Susan.
"What did the doctors say?" the Blue eyed Thing asked.
"They, said he suffered major haemorrhaging, internal bleeding and lacerations around his neck. They don't know when or if he is going to wake up" Viktor explained. Being the one to bring Johnny into the hospital, he was the first to know what his injuries were.
"Who is watching the Kids may I ask?" Viktor asked Ben.
"They're ok, Reed's watchin them" Ben replied.
Ben spent a few moments just watching Susan and Johnny, it broke the rock man's heart to see one of his family in such a state while a woman he considered a sister wept over him. He turned to Viktor and the faintest smile made its way onto his stony face.
"Thanks for bringing him here, Vik. He'd probably be dead if it weren't for you" Ben sighed as he lowered his head.
"…Don't...mention it" Viktor replied slowly, Ben wouldn't be thanking him if he knew that he had done to get him out of that crowd's clutches.
Viktor may have felt regrets for what he had done to the people in that crowd, but in his mind right now, they were in the same place in his mind as the hundreds of scumbags he had killed in the past, the only difference being that they were lucky enough to still draw breath. He wasn't fearful of the fact that their families or friends found out what he did, if they came to him to start mouthing off he wouldn't take it and would probably put their heads through the fucking wall.
The doors to the room swung open and Viktor looked up to see Peter, Logan and the Captain walked in. Peter with a look of regret on his face while Cap had a furious look plastered on his.
"What the Hell did you do?!" Cap shouted as she stood in front of Viktor. The Red eyed Meta-human stayed sat in his chair and only his eyes moved up to look at Cap.
"Saved Torch's life, what does it look like?" Viktor replied coldly.
"You know goddam well what I mean, Viktor! What the hell were you thinking?!" Cap shouted at him angrily clutching his fists.
"You'll have to be more specific" Viktor said looking up at the Captain, matching glares with him. Steve grabbed Viktor by the collar of his jacket to make him stand up, but Viktor swatted his hand away and in the blink of an eye was already on his feet and looking down at Steve, towering above the blonde.
"You know what state we are in with the Public Viktor…Mutilating innocent people isn't going to help us!" Steve shouted. Viktor's eyes ceased narrowing and flew straight open. He was livid at Steve's response and replied in kind.
"Innocent? INNOCENT!? You call the worthless pigs that nearly killed him innocent!?" Viktor bellowed back. Thank god the doors were sound proof, otherwise the shouting would have woken Johnny up from his coma.
"You listen here Viktor you…"
"NO! YOU LISTEN! I WILL NOT KEEP RISKING MY LIFE TO SAVE WORTHLESS, HONOURLESS SWINE THAT WOULD DO THIS TO A MAN WHO RISKS HIS LIFE TO PROTECT THEM EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK!" Viktor roared back, interrupting Steve mid-sentence.
"You don't have any idea what you've done. As if they didn't have reason enough to hate us after what happened" Steve spoke.
"US!? US!? YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY US, STEVE! I KILLED THOSE PEOPLE! THEIR BLOOD STAINS MY HANDS RIGHT NOW! NOT YOURS! MINE! I HAVE TO LIVE WITH MYSELF AFTER WHAT I DID! SO YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY THEY'LL HATE YOU!" Viktor roared at the top of his lungs, his eyes burning violently. Steve had to admit, if he didn't know Viktor well he would be absolutely terrified right now.
"Viktor please calm down" Peter said, trying to calm him down, but Viktor wasn't having any of it.
"I'm not in any mood to be calming down, Pete!" Viktor growled at the Wall Crawler.
"Vik for Christ's sake just listen for two minutes" Logan spoke, putting a hand on Viktor's shoulder.
"We understand what you are feeling, Viktor. It must be hard not getting the answers you wanted from…"
"Hard!? HARD!? Don't tell me you know how it feels! None of you know what it's like to have the answers to nine hundred and fifty years of misery within arm's reach and to have them snatched away from you like a child's plaything! So don't you dare for one second assume you know how I feel!" Viktor growled pointing at Steve's face in a threatening manner.
"Viktor I know what it's like to like to be confused, to not know why you are here and for what reasons" Steve tried his best to relate to Viktor.
"Oh really? Selling War Bonds while real men fought and died must have been hard eh Steve?" Viktor replied viscously. Everyone's eyes widened exponentially, no one in the team had ever said something like that about Steve, even less so to his face. The Star Spangled man was gobsmacked at what his friend and teammate said to him, it was a sentence that no one thinking straight would have said.
Viktor was obviously lashing out at everyone, though to an extent that the others were unfamiliar with. Nine hundred and fifty years of pent up rage, hate, aggression and confusion must have done a number on him and now he had blown the top.
"You don't know anything about it Rodgers, you think being stuck in ice for 70 years is anything like what I have to endure? 70 years is a fucking blink to me!" Viktor growled back.
"I have no idea in the fucking slightest where I came from, why I can do the things I can do, I don't even know what I am! You got your powers from a bottle Rodgers! So don't you even try to relate to what I am feeling!" Viktor snarled, his eyes burning brighter.
"Please Viktor, you told me you wanted us to help you, just let us…" Peter began
"You call this helping me!? I saved Johnny's life and you bring Captain Arsehole here to give me a goddam lecture?!" Viktor shouted in anger. It was at that moment when Viktor noticed Carol, Laura and Jess waiting right outside the door and the look on Laura's face made his eyes widen.
She looked terrified.
Viktor turned to his right to look at the mirror to his side, in his reflection his eyes were burning as if on fire, his Jacket was smeared with Johnny's blood and there was the faint glowing of his runes underneath his skin. He looked like a monster. He turned back to face the others and spoke at room volume "I need some air"
Viktor walked straight past Steve, Peter and Logan with his head down before he passed Laura, Carol and Jess, the former of which went to stop him but Carol grabbed her arm "I think he needs some time to himself"
Peter looked back as Viktor left the hospital ward, hoping that he could have done something. He immediately regretted bringing Steve and Logan, even if the two were among the oldest of the team, it didn't necessarily mean they could help. In fact Peter felt that Steve's words may have made things worse.
Steve wasn't exactly in the good mood he usually was, between the press hassling him and all the anti-Meta-human protests he was more than a little stressed. Peter pondered in what ways this situation would get worse.
"You know I wouldn't let him go out there by himself for too long" Ben spoke up, making his presence known.
"What do you mean, Ben?" Peter asked
"Guys like Vik, when they say they need time to themselves, what they really mean is that they don't know how to handle the situation they are in" Ben spoke
"Trust me I know, when I first turned into what's in front of ya, I was like him, needin time to myself all the time. If Reed, Suzy and Johnny didn't help me back then I don't know what woulda happened" Ben spoke from experience.
Peter knew what he had to do now, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his mask before stretching it over his head. He loaded new cartridges into his web shooters as he turned around and walked out of the doorway.
"Peter, where are you going?" Steve asked
"Make sure Johnny is safe, alright? I'm going after Viktor" Peter replied. He had a responsibility to help his friend now, he wasn't going to sit on his hands as he suffered inside. Carol walked after him "Don't try to stop me Carol" Peter said.
"I'm not stopping you, I'm coming with you" Carol replied.
"Thanks, I wasn't sure I could keep up with Viktor myself" Peter added as the couple left the Hospital post Haste after the Red Eyed Avenger.
*Unknown Location
The Quinjet's speed slowed down before it came to a halt. Tony held on tightly to his helmet as he felt the Quinjet slowly descending lower to the ground. Once it touched the ground, Tony instantly felt the difference between this Model of Quinjet and his models. His Quinjets were much smoother on the landings while this one obviously needed some work.
"We've arrived Mr President" Hand announced, looking back to the back seats where the President and Tony both sat.
"Excellent Victoria" Jones smiled as the doors opened. The President and the Armoured Avenger both left the vehicle with Hand and Jones' bodyguards following close behind. The sound of the Quinjet's engines powering down was much louder than what Tony was used to, but hell that was the problem with prototypes, they weren't as advanced as the final versions that Tony had.
"I got to say, Mr President. Your Quinjets could use some work" Tony said as he walked beside the President. Jones walked with a smile and his hands behind his back.
The group came to the entrance of the structure that that Quinjet had taken them. Tony didn't recognise this place at all, the large structure was like that of a Military Bunker mixed with one of his factories, only this put his factories to shame with its immense size and scale. The walls were coloured a dark red like that of an aircraft hangar, and armed guards wearing a very peculiar type of red armour were patrolling the area armed with what looked like the Repulsar rifles that Tony used to create.
But Tony never remembered giving the Military anything more than experimental prototypes, not fully tested models that were ready for use. The Iron Avenger looked around to see that this place was in the middle of nowhere, most likely in the south, not narrowing the location down seeing as there were miles of desolate land near Nevada or Texas.
"Let me guess, Tony. You are trying to figure out where you are?" Jones asked with a smile, stopping to turn and look at the Iron Avenger.
"Enlighten me" Tony replied
"The Nevada dessert, and what you are looking at right now is the first of many F.L.A.M.E HQ's that will help this country back on its feet" Jones smiled, gesturing to the huge structure.
"You haven't been President long enough to build this, how the hell did it get here in the first place?" Tony asked, this seemed a bit suspicious.
"This used to be a Sentinel Facility used by Trask Industries; Dr Trask created most of his Sentinels here, out in the dessert where there is no metal and is isolated from civilization by several hundred miles of sand; a perfect place to create robotic killing machines wouldn't you agree? When Trask went bankrupt they left this facility and all of its technology to rot. As soon as I put F.L.A.M.E into effect, I seized this facility so it could be put to good use creating weapons and vehicles like the Quinjet that brought us here" Jones explained.
"Well...seeing as that Quinjet only barely got us here, I guess I should take a look at some of the other things you're building inside" Tony said, Jones' explanation seeming reasonable.
"Well by all means, step inside" Jones smiled as he and Hand led Tony towards the entrance to the colossal structure. The entrance was being guarded by two of the previously mentioned armoured guards, both of which stood at Tony's height when he had his armour on. Tony must have thought that the armoured suits elevated them as well as give them protection, he was actually interested as an armour enthusiast about what the suits were made of and how they were designed.
Once Tony stepped inside the structure he was immediately taken back to his days as a Weapons dealer. The factory floor was a roar with the sounds of machinery clanking and forge fires burning, it was amazing in how many ways this place amazed Tony, he couldn't remember the last time he saw such a sight. Vehicles like armoured jeeps and assault helicopters were being put together on huge assembly lines while other smaller assembly lines were manufacturing what looked like restraints and large artillery pieces.
"Mind if I ask what the hell all of this is?" Tony asked, gesturing to all of the vehicles and weapons being manufactured around him.
"Put simply Mr Stark, we are tired of being helpless against high powered Metahumans. Even if the registration act doesn't go through, we need our military to be equipped with the weapons to prevent what happened in Chicago from happening again" Jones explained now with a serious expression on his face.
"I see, because by the looks of thing it looks like you are getting ready for a war" Tony commented on the sight before him. He had spoken with Viktor, Logan and Steve about the war and this was a spitting image of how they described the factories leading up to WWII.
"Now Mr Stark, I wouldn't say that…" Victoria Hand was about to say until.
"Oh Please Victoria, why don't you let me handle this?" said a gruff voice from ahead of them. Tony turned around to see a man leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. Tony never even knew he was there until he spoke out. The shadows cast by the industrial lights only served to show this man's outline, Tony then noticed the only light this man gave off was the slowly burning end of a Cigar.
"Stark, here isn't a politician, he's a businessman, a CEO but most of all….he's a fighter" the gruff voice chuckled at the end of the sentence. The man stepped forward, his boots clanking against the grated floor. Once he stepped into the light, Tony got a good long look at him.
He wore the same red armour as the guards wore, only it seemed much more tailored to be lightweight and slim while the guards armour seemed uniform, his had slight adjustments such as the fact that he only had a pauldron on his right arm. His gauntlets were fingerless and he had what looked like Kukri sword sheathed on the back of his waist, he also worse no helmet thus revealing his face. He had pitch black hair reaching down to the back of his shoulders while his skin was pale white and his eyes were a piercing pale blue.
"Like me" the man smirked as he took a long draw of the cigar.
"Mr Stark, I would like to introduce you to…" the president started, but the man put his hand up in a stopping gesture.
"Rowl Akiyama, F.L.A.M.E field commander at your service" the man smirked as he introduced himself to Tony. Tony found the name strange, he also couldn't quite put a race to this guy's face, he was white sure but…he looked strange, kind of like how you would meet someone who had several different ancestries and yet all of them were showing simultaneously. The Iron Avenger was also confused at what the whole 'field commander' thing meant, his queries were soon answered by the President however.
"Rowl here is going to be my eyes and ears within F.L.A.M.E Mr Stark. He commands the troops and carries out my orders. Seeing as I'll have a country to run I won't be the one in command of the organisation so Ms Hand here will be director while Rowl handles everything in my stead" Jones explained.
"Troops? This is starting to sound more and more like a war by the second" Tony replied with a look of dread. The country was on the brink right now and it looked like all the president was doing was preparing for a war.
"I'm supposing you have never taken precautions in times of danger?" Rowl replied with his arms crossed.
"That's not what I'm saying" Tony replied with a glare.
"I'm sure you have questions Mr Stark, now if you would follow us" Jones continued, all the time keeping the same 'trust me' smile on his face.
Tony wanted some answers alright and needed to know where exactly this was going, so he sighed before he replied "lead the way" the President smiled, Rowl grinned and Hand kept the same sombre look on her face as she adjusted her glasses and lead the way down the path.
"I have always had a vision of sorts Mr Stark. One where humans and meta-humans can all co-exist, although unfortunately it is sort of expecting a herd of sheep to get along with a pack of wolves" Jones said as he walked beside Tony.
"Comparing Meta-humans to wolves isn't going to get you into my good graces" Tony said with a raised brow.
"I didn't mean it as an insult, Mr Stark. But it is a well-known fact that humans and meta-humans have the same history. We evolved from apes, which speaks volumes about how far our society has gotten today. For example; a family of gorillas is lead and controlled by an alpha male for one reason; the Alpha male is stronger than all the others and can lead because it can do whatever it wants. Now after hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, our society has gotten to the point where intelligence and social knowledge makes one able to lead…but with Mutants and other such meta-humans in the mix, it would be all too easy for us to go back to the primal days of humanity, where the strongest get whatever they want with no question" Jones explained, making his point abundantly clear.
"Mr Stark…what is to stop Thor…or the Hulk or even your friend Brimstone from killing a world leader and proclaiming themselves the new leader of said country?" Jones asked with his hands behind him.
"You can't seriously be passing this law under assumptions of what 'might' happen" Tony replied.
"What I am trying to say is that the way things are going in this country, there is no equilibrium. There is no balance between humans and meta-humans, no official sort of balance that guarantees the safety of both races. This law….it is the only way in which both humans and meta-humans can be safe, just think about it Mr Stark" Jones explained.
"Excuse me?" Tony asked.
"I have said all I have needed to say, Mr Stark. I suggest you ponder on what I've said, and come to a decision on whether you support us or not within the week" Jones smiled, patting the Iron Avenger on his metallic back.
"Here are some Documents to help you understand what we are trying to achieve, Mr Stark. Perhaps the numbers, facts and figures will make more sense to someone of your learning" Hand said handing Tony a few files and folders.
"You're handing me special documents on what you are planning? Are you sure this is wise?" Tony asked. The President was a potential enemy here, enemies like Doom, Zemo or Thanos would never hand him their plans.
"I'm doing this because I trust you will come to your senses" Jones replied. "Just…have a read of those, think it over. If you need to contact us…well….you know where I live" Jones smiled.
"The Quinjet will take you back, Mr Stark" Hand said as she began to escort the Iron Avenger.
"I could just fly you know" Tony replied.
"Please Mr Stark, it's my treat. Don't want you wearing out that suit of yours" Jones smiled as he watched Hand lead Tony out of the facility. This left Jones standing still with the same smile on his face. Rowl stepped out beside Jones with his arms crossed and an eyebrow raised.
"Wear out his suit?" Rowl asked. Jones' smile then dropped as he looked at Rowl, his eyes burning into the eyes of his companion. Jones then grinned and slowly chuckled.
"He'll be needing it very soon" he chuckled as he patted Rowl on the back.
Fire
Pain
Ash
Death
Chaos
Destruction
Those words summed up what he felt he was, looking deeply at the orange flame flickering in his palm. The way the flame flickered was like the flames he had seen through his entire life, fire was who he was, it was the only constant in his long and seemingly endless life. Fire may have given mankind what they had today, but flames were natures pure force of destruction, flames didn't save people's lives, they only ended them.
Viktor thought this to himself as he was perched on the top of a particularly tall skyscraper. He was wearing his gear as he didn't want to fly around the city wearing a blood stained jacket and jeans. He simply stared at the flame flickering in his palm, pondering questions that he always pondered since the day he could walk. Conquering flames came as natural to him as breathing did, fire was always a part of him and would continue to be for the rest of his existence.
In all nine hundred and fifty years of his life, Viktor had never seen his flames do anyone a service without pain, death or destruction playing a part in it. The pressure he felt on his mind at this moment was almost too much to bear, all the weight of nine hundred and fifty years of waiting and searching and it brought him here, back to square one not an inch closer to finding his answers than he was the day he was born.
The Black Haired Avenger squeezed his eyes shut as he willed the flame away, almost as quickly as the flame appeared it faded away as if it were never there.
"Get a hold of yourself, Vik" Viktor spoke to himself as Callus flew onto his shoulder.
"Caw! Caw! Caw!" the crow cawed into his ear.
"…how many?" Viktor asked the crow.
"Caw! Caw!" the crow cawed yet again.
"Six? Six is a good even number" Viktor replied as he stood up and cracked his knuckles, resulting in a spark as he was wearing his gauntlets.
The red eyed Avenger shot off into the sky, leaving a trail of flames behind him as he did. The feeling of the wind blowing through his hair as he did, didn't do much to comfort him as it usually would. He wasn't sure what could possibly ease the inferno that scourged his mind, the questions, the doubts and the things he had done burned their way through his brain like the fires of hell.
He needed to clear his mind, he needed to calm himself down and not let the fire out. He needed to find some way to blow off some steam and so that meant doing the one thing that blew off enough steam for him was beating the living hell out of something.
And there were six scumbags out there that needed a beating.
As Peter swung through the air he pondered what the hell was running through Viktor's head, his friend needed him now, more than anyone else. The weakness he heard in Viktor's voice when they spoke on the rooftop was one that seemed out of character for his red eyed ally. He had known Viktor for almost a decade, which was enough for Peter to get the bearing of almost anyone he met. He always thought of Viktor as someone who had seen enough things that almost nothing would scare him, but yet there he was trying to think of a way to get Viktor to see some sense.
"Penny for your thoughts?" asked his Blonde haired companion. Carol could tell when something was bothering her fiancé, even when he had his mask on.
"Just how the hell are we going to talk some sense into Viktor?" Peter asked, he knew that they needed to help him, the only question was how.
"You'll think of something, Peter, you always do" Carol smiled.
"This is different, Carol. Talking someone down from committing suicide is a little different from talking some sense into a nine hundred year old, Omega level Metahuman like Viktor" Peter sighed, the situation wasn't exactly a favourable one by all accounts. Viktor wasn't a fool, in fact given his nine hundred years of experience he could show Pete and half the team a thing or two.
"Listen Peter, once we Find Viktor we'll work things out with him, he's a smart guy I doubt he'll ignore what we have to say" Carol added, she didn't want Peter to doubts himself when doing this, because even if they made a single mistake with how to handle the situation with Viktor, there was a change that something worse than a few bloodied up civilians might happen.
"Carol, remember when Viktor said that before he met us, he was a different guy?" Peter asked, hoping Carol would recall the instance.
"I do"
"Well…I'm afraid the other guy is making a comeback, and it may not be pretty" Peter said.
"You don't think that…he might kill someone?" Carol answered, the thought of someone like Viktor killing someone in cold blood was a thought that only rarely crossed her mind. The amount of backlash on the meta-human community it would create would be immense and would probably only enhance the amount of stigma directed at them.
"He's nine hundred and fifty, Carol. He's killed people before, I'm just afraid that if he does, the Viktor we know may be lost…I don't think any of us want that to happen" Peter replied. Viktor had told Peter about how he had been in countless wars, more than Logan or Steve could imagine, and with that came the truth that he had the blood of countless people staining his hands.
"Well, knowing that, do you really think we can do this?" Carol asked, the slightest bit worried that what they were doing was a fool's errand.
"We have to try, even if it's impossible to stop it, we have to try" Peter replied. He would rather try to help his friend and fail rather than not try at all, Viktor needed his help more than any of his other teammates did. While Carol, Laura, Steve and even Logan may have been shook up or disturbed by the events in Chicago, Viktor had the weight of the deaths of the incident upon his shoulders along with the sheer devastation of losing the answers to questions older than he was.
Peter couldn't imagine the sheer pressure of the events weighing down upon his mind, sure Peter was no stranger to loss but compared to what Viktor had been through, his experiences were small potatoes.
The two Avengers continued to try and look out for Viktor, using their superhuman level hearing and sight. Whenever they used their superhuman senses to track down human criminals or terrorists it would be relatively easy, but Viktor wasn't human and chances were that he knew how to remain undetectable.
Peter's swinging speed was defiantly fast enough to make large progress while also being slow enough so he wouldn't miss anything like Carol was used to. But then suddenly Peter went silent, not just quite but dead silent, that was when Carol knew that something was wrong.
"Pete, is something…" Carol was about to ask her fiancé what was wrong but he snapped his head toward her in one fluid motion and he shouted "LOOK OUT!"
Before Carol even had a chance to react, a bolt of lightning came racing from across a rooftop and struck her. Normally Carol would be able to absorb such a concentrated burst of energy, but as it had managed to catch her off guard, it managed to stun her and send her flying across the air and crashing into the nearest rooftop.
Peter didn't have a chance, even with his superhuman reflexes and spider sense as he noticed the attack little too late. A metal cable wrapped around his neck and yanked him out of his course of direction, sending him flying into the same rooftop on which Carol had been thrown into. The wire disconnected from Peter's neck and returned to the board on which his attacker stood with a grin etched upon his green mask.
"Ugh, goddammit, we don't have the time to deal with this" Peter groaned as he picked himself off the floor.
"Hey Spider, we were wondering when you were going to drop by" said a cackling voice that was all too familiar to him. The sound of a glider and a tone of a condescending asshole was something he had gotten used to.
Hobgoblin lowered his glider down to the roof, the thrusters roaring loudly as he hovered over the roof. The Orange garb of the Hobgoblin wasn't exactly as threatening or as iconic as the green garb of his much more vicious and terrifying counterpart, but it certainly brought back bad memories for Peter.
"Dammit Gobby, I don't have time for this! Can we do this some other time?" Peter asked with annoyance.
"Oh I don't think so Spider, you've had an ass kicking long overdue" came the electronically vibrating voice of Electro as he revealed himself. This little revelation made Peter pinch the bridge of his nose in annoyance, Electro and Hobgoblin in the same area meant only one thing. Peter's fears became realised as Sandman rose from the ground they were standing on, the shape of the Vulture glided over them, the huge hulking form of the Rhino climbed over the edge of the building and finally the athletic form of Kraven leapt onto the roof from another nearby building.
Peter did not need this distraction.
The Web slinger needed all the time he could get to find Viktor, he couldn't live with himself if Viktor hurt someone else in a fit of rage or if the Red Eyed Avenger's condition even got worse because of his absence. Carol on the other hand was pissed at the fact that the two of them were being halted by some assholes that always wanted a piece of Pete and by that logic a piece of her.
"Ok, guys. Not that it isn't warming my heart that you missed me or anything, but can we do this some other time?" Peter asked the six, trying to defuse the tension or at least distract them.
"Oh I don't think so Spider, we got a bone to pick with you and your whore" Sandman grinned.
"I would think you idiots would have learned your lesson from the last six times I kicked your ass. But tell you what, I'm feeling gracious enough to let you run and keep your dignities intact….what's left of them anyway" Carol threatened them, cracking her knuckles in response.
"Oh we ain't goin nowhere Lady, we gotta teach you two a lesson" Rhino snorted.
"Guys, no offence or anything, but we really do not have time for your bullshit right now!" Peter growled, he may have been a good natured and patient man, but this was not the situation for patience.
"Oh, why of course! We'll just stroll away and let you get on with your business! Do you think us simpletons, Spider?" Vulture sarcastically cackled as he landed in a crouched position.
Peter and Carol quickly got back to back and readied themselves for a fight. Peter knew that neither him nor Carol were ready for a fight, it was nearly midnight, they had been worn out by all the zipping and swinging across the city and not to mention their minds were hardly battle ready.
"Alright, so who do you want?" Carol whispered to her fiancé.
"I doubt that I could take Rhino while Electro and Kraven are backing him up" Peter replied. He knew his enemies inside and out by this point, though he almost never beat the Six without at least some kind of assistance, and even then it was the easier to handle line up. He mentally cursed the situation he was in right now.
"Alright, then call for backup" Carol whispered back.
"I…Umm…" Peter replied scratching the back of his head.
"What?"
"I….kind of left my earpiece back home"
"Are you freaking serious?"
"I way going out for drinks, what's your excuse?"
"Alright I was going out with the girls" Carol replied harshly. Right now was definitely not the time to turn on each other.
"Carol, get out of here. Got get the others and bring back some help" Peter whispered to his blonde companion.
"Hell no, they'll kill you. You go and ill hold them off" Carol replied.
"No offence, but they're always wanting to kill me, right now you are just the bonus" Peter explained. The Six while separate were idiots, right now they were deadly and a force to be reckoned with, even for someone like Carol.
If Jess or Logan or Laura were here then it would be fine. They would be able to handle two each and Pete and Carol could handle two foes at once, but right now they would just have to hold out as long as they possibly could before they could find an opening or a miracle of some kind happened.
"We don't have all day" Carol growled as her fists began to glow bright yellow.
Peter and Carol waited for the axe to drop, not sure whether they would be particularly lucky in this fight. They had both defiantly faced worse odds than this, but at least at those times they had the rest of the team with them.
"Just one question spider….do you prefer two graves or do you want to share?" Kraven chuckled, gaining laughter from the other members of the six. That's when…
"A single grave will do for you shit bags when I'm done with you"
Peter and Carol's head jolted to where the voice came from, as did the six. What they saw was enough to make Peter and Carol's eyes widen in shock, relief and utter dread.
It was Viktor and he looked pissed.
"Vi….Brimstone!" Peter called, cursing himself for almost shouting his comrade's real name. Though Viktor didn't really look like he cared about his identity right now.
His eyes burned with a ferocious rage as Peter swore he could see the veins around his eyes glowing red. Viktor almost never looked this pissed unless he was in that feral mode of his, yet the glowing runes were not adorning his body nor did his voice distort. The shadows casted by the city shrouded his entire body in shadow, bar his eyes which acted like spotlights in the pure dark. The fluttering of wings were heard as Callus circled around the six and landed upon Viktor's left shoulder.
But he had the same aura that he did whenever he went out of control.
It was uneasy to say the least.
"Hey, I know that guy from somewhere" Rhino said, scratching his head.
"Yeah…You're that Avenger that went crazy aren't you?" Electro smirked as the other five smirked.
The moment that Electro said 'went crazy' Peter saw Viktor's eye twich, that was when he knew what the six were planning to do and by his reckoning and what had happened recently, it was the equivalent of committing suicide.
"Oh yeah! Brimstone! The guy that blew up Chicago!" Rhino said with surprise in his voice.
"Aren't you a sight to behold? I'm amazed you can go outside after what you did" Vulture cackled.
"Yeah, I mean people call us criminals" Sandman smirked.
Viktor's eyes narrowed into a ferocious glare.
"Yeah I mean, we might steal stuff, but it must take a real scumbag to kill three thousand people" Kraven chuckled.
"I guess we should be taking lessons from this guy" Electro laughed, electricity crackling in his voice.
The air surrounding them got hotter and hotter, until there were lines of steam emerging from Viktor's very body. His breath became visible and his gauntlets actually began to glow from the sheer heat that he was emitting. The six had no comprehension of what it was they were doing, like a flame Viktor's strength and sheer power became greater when fuelled by the insults and teasing of the six.
Viktor whispered "shut up" between gritted teeth as his anger increased.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you" Peter spoke to the six, almost imploring that they didn't anger Viktor anymore.
"Awwww are we hurting his feelings?" Rhino teased, the six continued to laugh.
"Why the hell is this guy on your team anyway? I mean, I've killed before, but this guy is on a different level" Kraven smiled with a cackled.
They had no idea how deep they were digging their graves.
"Shut. Up" Viktor growled, his throat and mouth beginning to ignite and produce flames. His pitch black hair blowing in the wind as his appearance became more and more hellish as their insults flew.
"Please, guys, don't do this!" Peter implored.
"Oh, guys, I think we bwoke his wittle heart" Rhino chuckled, imitating baby speak.
"Shut Up!" Viktor growled loudly.
"Ooooh, what's the matter? Gonna…" Rhino began but he was interrupted as Viktor roared loudly.
"SHUT UP!" flames erupting from his mouth, Viktor roared out loud enough that the whole city probably heard him. Callus cawed loudly, flapping his wings as red marking began to appear upon his black feathers.
Rhino was about to respond until a flash of red appeared and a red gauntlet collided with his gut. The sheer speed and power behind the impact made a car crash look like a love tap. Rhino lurched over in pain as Viktor's Adamantium plated fist had probably broken something with its strike.
Viktor quickly withdrew his fist from Rhino's gut and delivered a devastating uppercut to Rhino's chin. The blow was so powerful that it sent Rhino reeling so hard that it could have been mistaken for a backflip of sorts. The ground wasn't exactly forgiving as Rhino landed face first onto the pavement.
Hobgoblin tried to take off on his glider but Viktor growled and grabbed Rhino by the scruff of his neck and hurled the lumbering mass of muscle towards the orange clad Goblin. The last thing that the Hobgoblin expected Brimstone to do was to use hurl his own allies at him.
Unorthodox, yes, effective, defiantly.
The Rhino being completely shaken by Viktor's attack of course fell off the side of the building and plummeted into the ground beneath him with a loud crunch of the thick pavement. Rhino always did have a thick skull, so a drop onto the pavement was hardly going to give him brain damage, that being said, Viktor's fists were much more dense and dangerous than the pavement.
Hobgoblin luckily managed to stay on his glider, even if colliding with Rhino meant he was spinning out of control. The glider was meant to glide, and having a Metahuman about a tonne in weight crash into you wasn't exactly good for the lightweight piece of equipment.
"You didn't crash…congratulations, now…allow me to fix that problem" Viktor growled as his eyes flared red.
The red eyed Metahuman leapt at the goblin on his glider and actually landed on the glider with him. Viktor by any stretch wasn't exactly light, but he wasn't planning on staying on the glider for very long as his hand wrapped around the Hobgoblin's throat.
"Gagh!" Hobgoblin gasped as Viktor's hand wrapped around his neck with all the force of an Anaconda crushing its prey.
Viktor leaned forward and snarled like a wild beast, his steamy hot breath blowing into the Hobgoblin's face as he struggled to breath.
"You aren't getting away from me that easily, you swine" Viktor growled.
Peter and Carol were simply stunned at how fast Viktor managed to take out Rhino, when even Carol had problems with the brute from time to time. The other members of the six however weren't on the winning side of this fight and immediately went into action.
Kraven, while Peter wasn't looking took out his whip and lashed it around the web slinger's neck and whipped him across the roof. Before Carol had a change to leap to Peter's defence was shocked full force by Electro. Normally the blonde haired heroine would be able to absorb the energy, though right now her concentration was all over the place and about 50'000 volts of electricity were enough to stun the Kree-Human hybrid and give Sandman the chance to knock her clean off of the roof.
"Agh!" Carol cried as she roughly landed on the ground.
"Sandman, you and Electro help Goblin! Kraven and I will deal with the wall crawler" Vulture cawed as he glided through the air.
Meanwhile Hobgoblin wasn't doing so well, having a seven foot omega level metahuman choke the life out of you wasn't exactly a situation one would want to be in. Viktor's grip wasn't as hard as many would think, a human or low level metahuman's neck was like a toothpick when compared to his strength. All he would need to do to crunch the Goblin's neck was put a little more pressure into it, an easy feat.
Suddenly Viktor felt himself a bit heavier. The Red eyed Avenger turned to see living sand crawling all over his body, the sand formed itself so it had shoulders and a head and scowled at Viktor. Any human would be terrified at the sight of Sandman, but Viktor had seen way more horrifying things in his life so this was a mere annoyance.
The sheer weight of both Viktor and Sandman, caused the glider to begin spinning out of control, it was a sheer miracle it didn't begin spinning sooner with Viktor throttling Goblin. Sand and flame spewed all around the place before Hobgoblin managed to escape Viktor's iron grip and leap from his board.
Viktor and Sandman however kept tussling, Viktor wasn't exactly used to fighting enemies that he couldn't get a god hold of. He was perfectly comfortable with breaking metahuman faces on his knee or shattering their limbs and beating them bloody, but he was never one for sand.
*BOOOOOOM!*
The glider exploded as it crashed into the centre of the street. Flame erupting in the explosion as both Viktor and Sandman were flung from the crater that the glider created in its crash.
Viktor snarled as he quickly shook himself off and stood up straight. A shoulder part of his coat was on fire, not even an inconvenience as Viktor was immune to the heat of the fire, and every part of his clothing he owned was fire proof, just for this very reason.
"AAAAGH!" Sandman cried as he sat up, revealing his entire left arm had been turned to glass. Viktor closely looked at the reflective surface of the Sandman and gave a smirk that would make Jack the Ripper shit his pants.
Sandman saw the flares in Viktor's eyes and at the moment.
He knew he was screwed.
"I'm fireproof…" Viktor said gesturing to the fire on his shoulder.
Viktor raised a single hand which glowed bright red with thermal energy. The sandman barely had time to react as the Avenger fired an extremely powerful thermal blast that almost instantly turned the Sandman into glass. Frozen a position of holding his arms up defense, the Sandman looked like he belonged in an art gallery.
"…You're not" Viktor finished before extinguishing the fire on the shoulder of his coat.
Right next to all the bizarre 'modern art' as Viktor liked to call it 'Bastard would fit right in' Viktor thought as he looked around to see Hobgoblin slowly getting to his feet before freezing as he saw the red eyed Brit.
Viktor smiled, steam erupting from his mouth as he hellishly chuckled. All problems and stresses were gone as Viktor's inner fire burned, he loved seeing scum like the goblin stare at him in fear, but the major pleasure in the situation was the thrill of cutting loose.
Letting his fire burn as wildly as it could in a way.
Suddenly the crackling sound of electricity came into earshot and before Viktor could turn to see where it was coming from.
"AAAAAAGH!" Viktor snarled as 50,000 volts of pure electrical energy surged through his body. The pain was sudden and the energy behind it was powerful, Viktor wasn't used to electric attacks so it took him completely by surprise.
"Forget about me?" Electro asked with an electrically crackling voice.
Viktor quickly turned around and glared at Electro, snarling with steam erupting from his mouth. A few crackles of electricity still lingered around the Red eyed Avenger's body, as if the energy had taken a liking to him.
"That the best you got?" Viktor snarled. Electro scowled as he fired off a stream of electricity, this time using both his hands to double the voltage of the attack. The energy coursing throughout Viktor's veins was painful as hell, but strangely, the longer the electricity was in contact with him, the less the sensation felt like pain.
Viktor's grimacing stopped as he no longer felt pain from the electrical energy, the sensation felt like nothing he had felt before. It felt invigorating, it felt like he was being charged up like a battery, the sheer energy of the electricity was powering him up. In nine hundred years this felt….new.
"Hehehe, now this feels good" Viktor chuckled as he inspected the electricity crackling at his fingertips. He noticed how his voice was crackling like Electro's, not distorted like when he joined with Callus…but not like his normal tone.
Electro had no idea what the hell was happening, he thought this Avenger was only immune to heat, but here he was standing his attacks. He couldn't, he couldn't absorb energy could he? Viktor smiled before he raised his hand and fired off a Thermal blast at the electrically powered meta-human.
Only there was one difference
He didn't fire a thermal blast
He fired a lightning bolt which sent Electro flying over the other side of the building. The electrical energy wouldn't kill or seriously harm Electro, but the landing wouldn't be pleasant.
Viktor's eyes widened in shock, he stared as the hand that fired the bolt in shock and awe. The crackling electricity was being perfectly conducted by the Vibrainium plating of his gauntlets. The Avenger then had an occurring thought and quickly jerked his head to the right, seeing his reflection in a mirror.
His eyes weren't burning red anymore.
They were sparking with a bright electric blue.
It didn't take very long for his eyes' blue to fade back into their natural red. The electrical crackling faded back into the burning red heat he was used to and it seemed everything had went back to how it always was.
"…What…the?" Viktor murmured at the sudden phenomenon. He was shocked as all hell at seeing this happen, his outrageously bad mood was almost shadowed by the oddity of what had just happened. The red eyed Avenger thought about it deeply before he shook it off as a freak accident or something, he would ask Richards or McCoy about it later.
He looked up to see Goblin trying to make a run for it, taking the Avenger's momentary confusion as an opportunity to high tale it out of there. Viktor grunted as he raised his hand and shot a thermal blast at the Goblin, it hit its mark as the blast impacted on the back of his head, knocking him out. Sure if Viktor wanted he could have killed the goblin instantly with a blast, but his weaker thermal blasts had more of a punch than a burn to them.
The Goblin would be fine…more or less.
"Ugh!" Viktor jerked his head upwards, back to the roof where he had last seen Peter and Carol.
Kraven's whip was wrapped firmly around the Wall Crawler's neck as the hunter and the Vulture continued their attack. Vulture was clawing at Peter with every chance he got, causing the web slinger's costume to become torn and large wounds on his back and arms. Peter was usually on his A-game at times like when the Six attacked, but his mind was all over the place, his mind was still clouded about the whole 'Viktor situation'.
He was mentally unprepared for this situation and the two members of the Six were relishing in it.
"Ugh!" Peter grunted as Kraven punched him in the gut, before elbowing him in the back of the head. Blood leaked from his wounds as he tried to steady himself, but Kraven kicked him square in the stomach, causing him to fall onto his back.
Viktor saw this, and his rage was instantly re-ignited. Flames engulfed his hands and his eyes burned with bright red fire. As he shot off to go and get Peter, a weight suddenly weighed him down by the leg, the red eyed Avenger looked back to see Rhino with an angry look on his face.
"Got ya!" Rhino grinned before swinging Viktor into the nearest car which flipped over under the immense weight of the Avenger.
Peter continued to get the living piss kicked out of him, the worst thing you could be in a situation wasn't be out of shape or practise, the worst thing you could be was be distracted. Peter's mind was not in a battle state, even with claw marks on his back and a concussion or two.
Viktor scrambled out of the car wreckage as desperately as he could. He saw Rhino gearing for a charge, and this time Viktor didn't have the element of surprise. But it would take more than some jacked up horned weirdo to keep him from helping his best friend.
"You had better get out my way!" Viktor growled, steam emerging from his breath.
"Fat chance!" Rhino grinned.
"If you don't get out of my bloody way! I am going take that horn and ram it where the sun don't shine" Viktor threatened.
The hulking mass known as Rhino didn't waste any time with a retort, as he simply roared, charging at Viktor full speed, leaning his head down, and his horn ready to gore him. The red eyed Avenger readied himself as soon as Rhino's horn was close enough, and grabbed a tight hold of his horn. The sheer force of the charge pushed him against the nearest brick wall causing it to break and crumble under the force of the charge and the combined weight of Viktor and Rhino.
"You're going to have to try harder than that!" Viktor growled as he began pushing back. Sure Rhino was a strong meta-human that could give even Carol a tough time. But Viktor was in a different league, he could give guys like Thor a tough time.
Viktor's eyes flared red as he pushed against Rhino. The super villain's feet skidding and taking pieces of the ground with him.
"What the hell?!" Rhino exclaimed as Viktor lifted the meta-human off of the ground by his horn.
"You thought you could keep me down? I eat idiots like you for breakfast!" Viktor roared as he swung Rhino downwards, slamming him facedown into the ground. Viktor's onslaught didn't end there as he roughly grabbed the back of Rhino's head and kneed him square in the face. Rhino may have been tough, but when Viktor kneed someone, they would be either unconscious, be hurting REALLY bad or would need corrective surgery very soon.
Viktor then delivered an elbow to the back of his head just to make sure he wasn't going to be getting up very soon. Viktor used this little technique to put down many a high powered meta-human.
"Now stay down, or ill break your fucking legs next time" Viktor snarled before he shot up towards the roof at a rapid speed.
As Viktor got closer however he saw a shape heading straight towards him. He reached out with his superhuman reflexes and caught the shape in mid-air, though it came as a surprise as he noticed it was a beaten and bloody Vulture.
'Ah…..Carol' Viktor thought to himself as he quickly landed on said rooftop. He dropped the unconscious Vulture right next to the beaten Kraven; tied up by his own whip. The Red eyed Avenger wasn't giving any of the Six any attention as he hurried to the sight that shook fear into his soul.
Peter didn't look good…at all.
His outfit was torn to shreds and Viktor could see blood leaking from said tears. Carol was knelt beside him and was looking over his wounds, she mustn't have taken two of the Sinister Six beating her Fiance into a pulp very kindly. Viktor knew just how strong Carol was, they had sparred together in the past and needless to say she was one tough cookie.
However Viktor's thoughts were instantly on his best friend and his safety, he had already nearly lost Johnny tonight, and now Pete was in a similar condition.
"Peter…are…are you…" Viktor stuttered in fear of his friend's life.
"Hey…I'm fine Vik, I've had way worse that this you know" Peter smirked as he put a hand on Viktor's shoulder. The Red eyed Meta-human unmasked Peter before he took off his hat and lowered his mask so that he could see Peter face to face.
"Are you sure? How bad is it?" Viktor asked, even Carol was shocked at how concerned Viktor was acting.
"Just a few cuts and bruises….maybe a broken rib…..or two" Peter replied with his trademark smirk. The Red and Blue Meta-human always did have a tendency of shaking off injuries with a smile, hell it was one of the reasons Carol was engaged to him.
"I….I'm the one to blame…It's all my goddam fault!" Viktor cursed. His eyes burning red with guilt and steam erupting from his body. Callus was watching from a nearby chimney, simply cawing as he observed the scene as it played out.
"Vik…" Peter began. He had to retract his hand due to the immense heat his friend was exhuming.
"If…I hadn't thrown a tantrum like a child….you wouldn't be in this mess! God I'm a fucking idiot!" Viktor cursed himself as he held his head down; his black hair acting like a curtain and blocking out his face from everyone else.
"Vik…we have enough trouble as it is without you blaming yourself" Carol replied.
"But it is my fault! I…I killed all those people! I'm the reason Johnny is half dead! And I'm the reason that Peter is hurt like this! I can't do fucking anything right!" Viktor cursed himself, gripping his head with the sharp fingers of his gauntlets.
"That's all my life is! Nine hundred and fifty years of fuck ups!" Viktor growled at himself, his voice actually began to sound distorted, just like it did when he was joined with Callus. Peter also noticed drops of boiling hot water falling onto the floor from Viktor's face.
He was crying.
"Viktor!" Peter growled back, uncharacteristically. He had tried talking to Cap, he had tried using Logic to help Viktor…force was the only option he hadn't used, and right now it seemed like it was the best option left to get through to him.
"Don't blame yourself for what happened! There was no way you could have possibly prevented all that from happening!" Peter replied roughly grabbing Viktor's shoulder.
"But…Pete…" Viktor said, raising his head, showing the boiling hot tears streaming down his face.
"If you didn't show up in Chicago when you did, everyone would have been killed. If you weren't at the club tonight Johnny would have ended up worse and perhaps me with him…and we chose to come after you, if you didn't show up to help us against the six, I would probably be worse off" Peter said as he held onto Viktor's shoulder tightly.
"Now we have two options. One; you can keep on sulking about not knowing what you are, and keep acting like a spoiled child who needs the answers…or two, you can come back with us and we can make things right" Peter said, Viktor still had a conflict going on behind his eyes, Peter could tell.
"You have no idea what it's like Peter…none of you do. To look in the mirror in the morning and not know what the fuck is looking back at you…no one knows what I'm going through" Viktor strained behind more tears.
"Viktor…I'll be honest…I don't care what you are…I care who you are…"
"Who…I am?" Viktor asked.
"You are my friend…and we need you now, buddy. More than ever" Peter spoke with as much of a comforting tone as he could.
Peter's message was simple, and straight to the point. Something that Viktor rarely dealt with in his long life, all the time he was used to hearing these long winded and complicated speeches that meant way less than what Peter just said. His species, his race and where he came from didn't matter to the wall crawler. All that mattered was that he was Peter's friend and ally; an ally that the team needed at this time, with Johnny in the hospital and the country ready to devour their society.
Viktor chuckled as he put his hand on Peter's, which was still gripping his shoulder.
"Now…could you please cool down?" Peter asked. Viktor nodded with a smile before he noticed the look of discomfort on his friend's face.
"No…Vik…literally cool down, my hand is burning" Peter spoke between gritted teeth.
"Oh! Sorry" Viktor replied sheepishly as he instantly cooled his body temperature down.
*Stark Tower
Tony sat with his hands intertwined as he stared blankly as the messily laid out files and documents on his desk. He had been reading, scanning and thoroughly skimming through every single scrap of paper that Hand had gave him earlier that day. The blueprints of vehicles like the prototype Quinjet that he flew in, the proposed changes to prisons such as Rykers, 42, the Raft, The Cube and even so far as re opening Alcatraz were all in front of him.
He couldn't believe his eyes.
It could work.
The registration could work.
Tony had tried so hard to try and find the slightest flaws in the President's plan, he even went so far as to use JARVIS to cross reference and scan for slight flaws in the logic. But he couldn't find them. This could work, the act didn't just call for Military and policing applications; but going so far as to create hospitals containing the medical inventions of Dr McCoy, Pym, Richards and Foster. Blood and tissue donor programs for meta-humans with above average healing abilities, Rehabilitation programs for supervillains who wanted to better themselves, and even employing weather controlling meta-humans to prevent natural disasters such as hurricanes and tsunamis from taking a toll on the civilian population.
The answer to their problems was staring Tony directly in the face.
This was how they could make things up to the public after the fiasco in Chicago.
The Iron Avenger could barely believe it.
Tony looked over to the phone before looking back to the small piece of card in his hand. The small card read "call me when you change your mind" a very confident statement for someone who had only been president for a month. Then again, this guy could very well be known as the next FDR if his streak of ideas like this kept going.
Tony simply stared at the Phone for a good five minutes. He had been pondering all night, would he pick up the phone and say those words? Would he pick it up and tell the president to go and screw himself?
He didn't have all night that was for sure.
He looked at the card in his hand one last time before he stood up and walked over to the phone. Picking it up before pushing in the numbers that the card directed him to, it was only a few moments until the ringing stopped and the person on the other side responded.
"…Well…are you in…or out?" the voice asked.
Tony opened his mouth slowly, fully grasping the weight of the single word he was about to utter in response. How the single word would impact everyone in the team, how it could affect the country but most of all how it would affect his friends.
He opened his mouth and spoke the single word, so quietly that if anyone else was standing in the room, all they would hear would be an almost silent murmur of a single syllable word.
A moment passed as Tony put the phone down. He wiped his hand over his face before taking a long and deep sigh.
"I need a drink"

Now please everyone as always leave a Review or PM me what you thought. And keep the reviews longer than 5 words! I need a lot more to work off of, if you don't like something tell me, tell me what you liked, what you think could have been done better. There is nothing worse than doing a 10,000 word chapter and only getting "Good work" as a basis for improvement.
So keep the reviews as detailed as possible.
