Chapter 8: You Came Back
It was a quick transformation the Saleen Mustang did. It was around 20 feet tall, had the basic shape of a human, with two legs, two arms and a head. It was a robot, screaming sinister, bent over forwards towards Sam, looking imposing.
Its eyes were red and foreboding.
I could not believe what I was seeing. My heart was racing from fear and my brain was racing from tumult. What the hell was this thing?
Alien cars were transforming into robots.
It was like freaking Terminator, just in real life. It was downright terrifying.
"Oh god, no!" Sam shrieked. "Oh shit!"
It was set on Sam as he made a run for it. I ran through the piles of junk, careful not to get spotted by the sinister alien. If I could shoot him with my spheres, that would be fantastic. I was pretty sure this one was more intent on killing Sam than the Camaro was.
But what could the robot cars want from Sam?
And what the hell were they?
"Oh, shit, shit, shit! Gah!" Sam shrieked as the car-turned-robot gave chase to him and flung its arm and sent Sam flying onto a dusty, old and black BMW 740iL. I could barely hold in my scream as Sam landed on the hood and windshield of it, looking at the black robot with pure fear. "This is a bad dream." Sam looked the robot into its eyes almost disbelievingly.
I hope so, Sam. I really do. Somebody better wake us up from the nightmare.
The former police car lowered itself as it slammed its metal fists onto the sides of the 7 series. "Are you username Ladiesman217?" It asked.
Holy shit, they can talk.
"Wh-? I don't know what you're talking about!" Sam started, but cut off aggressively.
"Are you username Ladiesman217?!" It yelled out. I flinched from the aggression of his voice, even though I wasn't the subject he was yelling at. I could feel my heart pounding in my ears as my legs felt weak.
Sam looked as if he was about to cry. Honestly, I would too if I was in his place. "Y-yeah?"
"Where is the eBay item 21153?" It asked. Sam looked at him blankly and fearsomely. The robot was not satisfied as it angered again. "Where are the glasses?!"
With a frightened scream, Sam turned around and jumped over the hood of the car, then the boot, and finally got on solid ground as he sprinted. The robot Mustang threw the 740iL out of its way, starting to chase Sam again.
"Run Sam!" I finally bellowed out, not being able to keep myself hidden. I had to protect my brother.
In that moment, the Mustang stopped in its tracks and turned towards me, unaware that I was present, too.
Well, shit.
Its face was filled with anger, and with as much haste as I could, I hid in time behind a junk pile as it swung its hand at me. It hit the junk as caused it to disperse randomly, giving me the added time to run towards where Sam was running, and thankfully, it was the main road.
Adrenaline pumped through my veins and I could barely feel my feet touching the ground how fast I was running. I think I put Usain Bolt to shame.
Sam and I ran for our lives as the robot was a little further behind us, having stepped into the junk got it clogged between its gears, making it harder for it to move. With the momentum, Sam and I sprinted the fastest we could.
"Get back!" Sam suddenly yelled out, flailing his arms. But he wasn't yelling at me. "Go!"
Then suddenly, I spotted it. A baby blue colored scooter was coming towards us, and the driver was no other than Mikaela. "Don't come here!" I yelled out as well, but it was too late. She was intent on coming towards us.
Then as she approached us, I ducked out of the way as Sam jumped on her, practically throwing both her and himself to the ground as the scooter skidded on the ground. Her blue helmed fell off her head as she groaned, hitting the ground too hard.
"Get up!" I hurried, whipping my head back to look where the evil robot was.
"What is your problem, Sam?" She said through gritted teeth as he tried to help her get up.
"Okay, there's a monster right there that just attacked me!" He pointed towards where the evil Mustang was running towards us, throwing cars as he did so. "Here it comes! You have to run!" Sam ordered, but she was too confused to act.
And suddenly, I heard the skidding of tires on the opposite side of Sam and Mikaela, one coming off the main road and into the junkyard.
As my head snapped towards the sound, it was no one other than the Camaro from hell.
It started to drift as it got near Sam and Mikaela, and miraculously it missed killing Sam and managed to swipe itself underneath the black robot's feet. My heart beat erratically within my chest as I did not understand anything about this situation anymore.
As the black robot fell to the ground, the yellow Camaro finished drifting and came to a stop on our side, opening the passenger door.
There was no driver inside.
"Sam, what is that thing?" Mikaela affrightedly asked.
"You have to get in the car." Sam bade her.
Oh hell no.
"I don't-!" Mikaela started.
I'm not going in there.
"Trust me!" Sam bellowed as he jumped into the driver's seat and pulled Mikaela in with him. "Nicole, get in!"
"I'm not going in there!" I bellowed. And have the seatbelts try and strangle me again? No thank you!
"Get inside, now!" He yelled out at me.
There was no time left. The black robot was picking itself back up.
And so, I got into the Camaro, with Mikaela in the console and me in the passenger seat. The door slammed itself after I got in.
It was going to be a hell of a ride. Literally.
"Go, go, go!" Sam hastily said as the car put itself into gear and sped out of the junkyard, the rear wheels slightly spinning because of the sudden power output.
And the evil Mustang immediately gave chase to us. The robot transformed itself into a car and sped away right after us. The Camaro took evasive maneuvers so that it could buy us a couple of seconds and we would stay in the lead, and every time he swerved, the three of us would roll from one side of the car to the other.
I had to clench my teeth despite the fact that I was downright terrified. I just wanted to get out of this nightmare alive. Racing cars, amok robots and fear, that's all I've come into contact with ever since I woke up today. But I was practically useless from my position in between Sam and Mikaela, so I turned towards the girl.
"Mikaela, get in the back." I sharply told her as she was too befuddled to disapprove or do anything else, so she moved in the back with haste as I had the passenger seat all to myself. The car was practically sprinting down a straight road full of dust. I couldn't see anything from here. Then the car got out of the dust cloud and I could hear the sirens on the alien Mustang following us, and when I turned around, I saw through the back window of the Camaro that the Mustang turned the red and blue lights on and was pursuing us.
It tried to pass us on the left and I immediately saw the white words 'To Punish And Enslave' on the rear right kidney of the black car. That wasn't supposed to be written there.
This was a hell car.
Luckily, our Camaro, whose name I couldn't remember for the sake of me, stepped on the gas pedal and overtook the Mustang, the loud engine clearly heard in the cabin. The road ahead was getting narrower and soon buildings were all around us. "Oh my god, we're gonna die!" Mikaela shrieked from the back, gripping the seats and then moving her hands away because she was touching an alien.
"No, we're not gonna die!" Sam soothed albeit panicky. "No, we're not!"
"Oh my god!" She shrieked once more as I stuck my head out the window to look at how near the cop car was to us. It was almost grazing the bumper.
"Trust me, he's a kickass driver!" Sam yelled as I got back in and saw a building right in front of us with a colored glass panel on it. We were at a dead end and the car was officially a kamikaze now.
"Oh, shit!" I gripped the door and readied myself for impact. "Mikaela, get down!"
Sam seconded me. "Bad idea, we're gonna die!"
With a mighty engine rumble, the car went right through the large panel of colored glass on the building and our shrieks were lost to the sounds of broken glass. It was everywhere, inside and over the car. I shielded my face and head with my arms and I knew that the glass was cutting my skin, perhaps not by much, but it stung me lots as the shrapnel struck me.
I could still hear the sirens of the police vehicle as it followed us and I knew that it was up to me to save us all. We could never outrun a Saleen tuned muscle car with a banged up oldtimer like this one.
Through the open window on the car, I sat on the doorframe and bade Sam to hold my legs so I don't fall out and die. I know Mikaela would see my secret, but I had to do this because that Mustang was sent to kill us. By who I didn't know, but I wasn't going to die. Not today.
As the Camaro swerved around a shelf full of boxes, I almost fell out, so I gripped the hood as it turned once more. I opened up my palms and pointed them towards the boxes as the blue light gently shone around them. I lifted them up in the air and sent them flying straight onto the hood and windshield of the Mustang. It didn't expect objects to come flying at him and it was caught off guard.
It immediately turned its steering wheel to the side in a failed attempt to evade the boxes, but they already slammed against the hood and he ended up losing traction because of the power output and sudden turning. He even crashed through the shelf where the boxes once were and spun out, the wheels starting to burn out as the Mustang tried to so hard to get to us again, but the Camaro sped off out of the building as Sam pulled me back inside.
"That bought us a few seconds." Sam said breathlessly as he looked back to see where the Mustang was. It still didn't exit the building. "Thanks Nicole."
"W…" Mikaela breathed behind us heavily. "What did you do there?" She looked at me with wide eyes. She obviously saw what I did.
"It's… something I was just born with. I can't explain it." I sighed.
"Wait, you're Nicole? Sam's sister?" She questioned. Good thing she remembered my name when Sam was describing me to her.
"Yeah." I said as the Camaro drove onto the property of some factory and the engine rumble was considerably lessened, as if the car no longer wanted the evil Mustang to find it, and instead focused on being stealthy. My heart was still racing as the Camaro suddenly started to brake and then go into reverse between two silos looking buildings. The night had fallen and it was really dark here. I was in a sentient car that wanted to kill my brother, followed by another car that was now definitely more ticked off because I threw boxes at it, causing it to crash, and I even have another person who knows about my secret and will probably hate me until the rest of my life.
This day just couldn't get any better.
Then the Camaro stopped going in reverse and parked, turning itself off and locking the doors.
I immediately grabbled the little knob on the top of the doorframe and pulled, but it didn't want to go up. I looked to Sam and neither he could open up the door. "We're locked in." I stated the obvious, trying to even out my breathing and lower my heart rate. Sam tried to start it up again, but it refused to.
"The car won't start." He kicked the space under the steering wheel. "At least we ditched the monster, right?" He tried to be optimistic, but my pessimistic side kicked in.
"Yeah, and ended up with this one."
"Yo lady, watch your tongue." The radio said, even though the car was completely turned off and nobody gave the car contact to draw power from the battery. This thing screamed alien.
"Or what?" I fearlessly said, even though I was quivering inside. I just wanted to go home and believe this was all just a big, fat nightmare.
"Nicole, don't talk back to the car!" Sam said, afraid that the car would do something. I was also afraid, but my pride was bigger.
"I don't care! They tried to kill you!"
"This one saved us!"
"It's only a matter of time when it decides to kill you again!"
"I can hear you, you know." The radio said again.
"Good, then you know what I'm gonna do to you." I almost growled at it.
"Girl, you make my heart bleed." It tried to sound friendly, but I was having none of it. Silence greeted the car as the radio didn't say anything else, and in front of us, the hellish black Mustang returned and predatorily and slowly, with its blue and red lights flashing, it drove in front of us, not noticing us at all.
The engine of the Camaro rumbled as it turned back on on its own.
Crap.
"It's go time." Sam said uneasily.
