That Mischievous Grin
Chapter Fifteen
By LoveMeNever
Okay, what have I gotten myself into? I didn't mean to say yes to both of them! Regina just had me so worked up I almost forgot how to speak. Hope she didn't notice...
It was almost the end of her shift, literally two minutes until, and it dawned on her after Regina left that she had now double booked her evening. Ruby seemed especially desperate to do something fun which made Jaime feel bad already. Then there was Regina, whom she had already stood up once, inviting her to a wonderful sounding dinner.
She has been aching to see Regina for the past few days but Ruby was pretty much the only other friend she had in this town.
Maybe Ruby would understand if Jaime made a sudden change of plans? She'd understand, right? When the mayor asks a person over to dinner you should definitely go, shouldn't you? Jaime blinked her eyes into focus as she wiped off a table and cleaned it of the plates and cups.
With a long drawn out sigh she wished she had control over her mouth when Regina was around. It was like her entire body just responded on its own accord around the mayor. Jaime liked the feeling, but she wondered where it came from and why.
At this point she knew for a fact she was attracted to the mayor and she was getting the vibe Regina felt the same. It was scary though. Why did she have such an intense desire for the mayor? It was almost as if they had met before, in another life perhaps, or in a dream. Jaime scowled at how that sounded in her head.
She had just finished putting the dirty dishes in the large sink in the back room when her phone buzzed in her apron pocket. It was Ruby.
"Hey Rubes." Jaime tugged off her apron and put it on the apron rack. "I'm just getting off now but I need to talk to you about something."
"Me first!" Ruby's voice quickly responded, she sounded super excited.
Jaime smirked, she could just see the brunettes smile to match the tone. "Okay, shoot."
"Emma offered me a job as her assistant! Can you believe that?!" Ruby squealed over the phone.
"That's fantastic! When do you start?"
Ruby hesitated, "Actually... now. It's kind of an 'in the moment' type thing, you know? I'm gonna have to bail on our plans tonight but I promise I'll make it up to you!" she added the end quickly.
Jaime chuckled, this was working out quite well. "Psh, don't worry about making it up to me! Just go lock some bandits up, and just so you know I'm extremely jealous."
"Haha, you're jealous? I don't believe you!" Ruby laughed, "Anyways I'd better get going and I'm still sorry about ditching tonight."
"It's not a problem, Rubes, something actually came up and I was going to have to bail anyways."
"Oh? Looks like this worked out then!"
Jaime smiled to herself, "Yeah it did. Bye Rubes!" and then she hung up the phone eager to arrive at the Mills Mansion. Before she left the diner she checked her makeup in the restroom. It still looked fine other than the bit of faded eyeliner. She quickly re-applied it.
She was dressed decently too, though she wondered if she should go back to her house to change, her jeans were skinny leg and she had black boots on while her top was a simple yet pretty short sleeved white blouse. She had a black leather jacket just in case it was cold. Before work she styled her hair in tight curls but now they had fallen into a nice wavy look. All in all, she looked hot.
Once she was at Regina's door she took a breath. Do not become a blabbering fool. Do not become a drooling infant. She told herself over and over. She knocked three times when she felt like the message sunk in about maintaining her cool around Regina.
The door swung open revealing Regina's smiling face. Jaime noticed she had different clothes on than before at the diner. Now she was wearing a black form fitting dress, and instantly Jaime felt way under-dressed. "Jaime, come on in." Regina almost purred.
"Thanks. Oh wow." Jaime's eyes bulged at the inside of Regina's house. It was huge and gorgeously decorated. "This is beautiful, Regina."
"This is the first time you've been here, isn't it?"
Jaime only nodded while admiring everything as the other woman lead her down a hall. The smell of food reached her nose and she felt her stomach growl. "What's on the menu?" Instantly she regretted the way that sounded. For two reasons; it could have been taken as inappropriate and it could have sounded a bit rude. "Er... I mean, what's for dinner?"
Did that really sound much better? She mentally face-palmed.
Whatever the case Regina chuckled softly, "I've made us grilled salmon with a side salad. I hope that is to your liking?" For a split second Jaime thought she saw Regina uncertain of herself and nervous.
"That's perfect." She smiled and sat down at one end of the dinning table. Regina sat at the other end. Their food was already on the table so they started eating right away. Jaime thought it was the most delicious thing she's ever tasted in her life. It was all so delicious that she embarrassed herself by asking for more after her first plate. Regina hadn't seemed to mind, in fact she seemed thrilled.
They laughed most of the night so Jaime didn't get through much of her second plate but that was fine with her.
"So..." Jaime said on a more serious note, "Did you ever find Henry?"
"Yes. He was with a new friend of his. Honestly he doesn't talk to me at all lately." Regina answered tightly.
"I'm sure he just forgot to mention it. Where is he now?" Jaime sensed the tension within the mayor but she was genuinely curious.
Regina just stood up and cleared her plate off the table, motioning for Jaime to follow. "He's still with his friend. I let it slid this time since I had you coming over." They both set their plates in the sink and Jaime started to help wash hers off when Regina grabbed her wrist.
A pleasant electric charge pulsed up Jaime's arm and spread over her whole body at the touch. God if this is what just a touch does what would happen if we kis- No. I can't think like that.
"You don't have to do that. Why don't we go watch TV?" Regina suggested. Neither of them moved from the spot they were in. And it was only now that Jaime saw how incredibly close she was to Regina. Their bodies were almost touching.
"We can do that." Jaime quickly took a step back trying to contain herself from pouncing on the mayor.
She could have sworn she was Regina frown at the distance between them now but her vision was obstructed by Regina turning to lead them into the TV room. Which housed a ginormous flat screen TV. Yet despite the huge screen the room still managed to look very elegant. Jaime sat on one end of the couch while Regina sat slightly in the middle. It was a tad awkward just because Jaime was resisting the urge to see how those beautiful plump lips felt against her own.
"Ahem," Jaime cleared her throat, "What's your take on the whole Kathryn missing thing?"
Regina become tense but tried to cover it up. To no avail. "She was a friend of mine, and I hope she is alive and well wherever she is."
"Yeah, it's pretty terrible. And to think Snow is the one responsible." Jaime sighed but watched Regina as she shifted uncomfortably.
"Can I ask you something?" After a long pause of silence between them, Regina finally spoke.
Jaime's eyes stayed on the TV, an old black and white movie was on, "Yeah?"
She waited for the response but Regina was seemingly hesitating and sorting through her thoughts. Now the mayor had Jaime's full attention. Crap, she probably wants me to leave and doesn't want to be rude about it. Jaime was terrified that was the reason because she had actually been enjoying Regina's company. She waited for the reply from the mayor before taking any action.
"Do you ever feel like people are connected? Certain people?"
Jaime's heart sped up. Did she? Wasn't that what she was feeling with Regina? That they had a special connection to one another that neither could pull away from? "I... suppose so. Why do you ask?"
Regina scooted closer to Jaime subtly, Jaime wondered if she imagined it actually. The pain in her head before started to come back but she ignored it as they unconsciously moved closer to each other. Regina just felt so natural to Jaime. Like a glove on her hand, it just fit. Their lips brushed together and Jaime practically saw stars. They crashed together this time in a soft, but passionate kiss.
Multiple the same electric shock earlier by fifty times and that's how she felt. Her whole body became alive like it had been sleeping for years. She moaned into the kiss as it became more heated. She wasn't sure when it happened but Regina was straddling her legs on the couch and her own hand was going up Regina's arms and down her back. It was utter bliss right up until the searing pain in her head exploded.
"Argh!" She broke the kiss at held her head in her hand.
"Jaime? What's wrong?" Regina got off of her and put a hand on her shoulder.
Jaime couldn't even open her eyes the pain was so intense. She just doubled over and felt nauseous. She had no idea what was going on, eventually she couldn't even hear Regina's voice or feel her touch. She couldn't even scream. The next thing she knew she passed out.
"Let me get this straight, lizardman." A flick of a tail signaled annoyance in the purple and pink colored cat. "You think I'm going to stop Regina from casting a big bad spell?"
Rumple giggled his mad little giggle. "Oh I don't think... I know."
A cat eye twitched. "If I didn't know better I'd say you spent time in Wonderland, seeing as how your as mad as I am."
"Do we have a deal?" The words rolled off his tongue like venom. Cheshire knew this was not a wise course of action but she must have been more insane than she thought because she nodded and grinned ear to ear.
"You let Aladdin go and I swearrr I will not stop Regina from casting this big bad curse." Cheshire changed into her human form in order to sign the paper in Rumple's hand. Before she could, however, Rumple stopped her.
"Wait... you know. May I see that necklace of yours?" He pointed to the necklace hanging on her. She looked down at it and raised an eyebrow.
"You may see it. But don't touch." She commanded, some of Regina must be wearing off on her she thought to herself. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing either.
Rumple grinned, "Very well, very well. Let's see it then." He leaned in closer to get a better view of it. Cheshire saw him nodding and making small noises that could only mean something terrible. She wanted to know what wheels were turning in his head.
Finally he stood, "Hm. Interesting. Let's get on with the deal, shall we?"
Cheshire gave him a skeptical glare before she continued to sign the paper. A sloppy Cheshire Cat was written on the signature line in two seconds and Rumple giggled again. A disturbing sound Cheshire was becoming less and less fond of.
"Now if you'll hand Aladdin over and excuse me, I have a rather ferocious hairball to expel."
Meanwhile~
"Oh come on Emma. You don't really think I'm capable of this do you?! I could never kill Kathryn no matter how much I want to be with David!" Mary Margaret shouted. No one believed she was innocent except herself, which didn't count. At first she was the prime suspect for the kidnapping of her, and David was suspected too, but now this?
She could never, ever in a million years kill another person.
Emma stared back at her with sympathy. Mary Margaret could tell she wanted to believe her but all the evidence was against her. It killed Mary Margaret that Emma was staying silent. Not expressing her thoughts or concerns. It just dampened Mary Margaret's hopes of proving her innocence. But why her? Why did all the evidence point to her when she had nothing to do with it?
A thought struck her like lightning. Am I being set up?
So I put off doing loads and I mean LOADS of homework to write this. If you want to drop a review that'd make me feel muuuuch better about potentially failing my classes. xD JK I won't fail (psh, crossing my fingers) but a review would be quite awesome of you.
A fairy once told me... yeah, I don't know.
I'm taking a writing class this semester so I will be attempting to improve my writing. This chapter is probably sloppy because I wrote in an hour or two but beyond this point I'm going to try and fix my issues. :3
I know this chapter doesn't totally follow the script of season 1 entirely but it'll be okay, I promise. ;)
