Case Closed AU

It was a week later when Irene and her friends were at the library trying to find a book for their book report for school did Irene notice a few cop cars pulling up at the library. Quickly grabbing her back pack Irene sprinted towards the elevator, her friends hot on her heels. Entering the elevator, Irene heard the alarm go off and narrowed her eyes at the sign.

"Too much weight on the elevator. Let's take the stairs you guys." Irene said sighing, causing her friends to jump off the elevator.

"You're not supposed to strain yourself so you stay on the elevator Irene-chan!" Amy said grinning as she hit the close door button on her way out, causing Irene to look surprised but smile at her friends.

"When they're given an order they follow through." Irene said sighing as she waited for the doors to open again at the first floor.

"Hey Uncle McGuire, Sato-nee-chan. What's going on?" Irene asked walking towards the two as McGuire talked to the director of the library, Tuddlebore or something like that.

"Eh? Irene-chan? What are you doing here?" Sato asked surprised at the sight of the girl.

"Book report for school. What's going on?" Irene asked glancing at the director while Sato took her aside and explained that it was a missing person case that is likely to be upgraded to homicide.

"Ah. Let me know if you need my help then. Ah can you help me get a book off of the higher shelf? I need it for my report but can't reach it and I'm not supposed to try and climb on anything." Irene asked having a hunch as to what was going on and gently tugging on Sato's sleeve towards the elevator, a signal they had come up with for if she had an idea of what was going on.

"Sure thing Irene-chan. I'll be right back Inspector." Sato said giving the Inspector a hand sign that meant Irene found something out.

"Take your time Sato-san." McGuire said nodding slightly to show he got the signal.

"What is it Irene-chan?" Sato asked as Irene led her back up to the kids section of the library.

"I noticed something earlier and thought you would want to take a look at it." Irene said leading Sato over to a simple looking bookshelf. Irene removed four books from the end of the second row and set them on the floor, before going around the other side and removing four books from the exact same spot on the second shelf.

"See anything odd?" Irene asked causing Sato to bend down and look.

"Huh? Didn't you take those books off of the shelf?" Sato asked noticing what seemed to be the front of another book.

"I did… now look. This book has no spine… which means there's a third row of books hidden between the books on either side of the shelf." Irene said smirking as she pulled out a spineless book, causing Sato to grab her radio.

"Inspector McGuire. This is officer Sato. You might want to grab a few others and meet me and Irene-chan in the kids section. Irene found something that I think you'll find interesting." Sato said over the radio, earning an affirmative back.

"Make sure you bring Director Tuddlebore too Uncle McGuire, don't let him out of your sight." Irene called into the radio, earning another affirmative from her 'uncle' before she and Sato started taking all of the spines books off of the second shelf while they waited.

"So what did you two need us to see?" McGuire asked as he, Tuddlebore, Takagi, and Chiba made it to Sato and Irene.

"Come look at this." Irene said pointing to the shelf she had just cleared.

"Yeah so you only took off the books from one side?" Chiba asked making Tuddlebore look slightly worried.

"Now take a look around the other side." Sato said causing Chiba to blink and do as told.

"Hey how'd you do that? There's no way you could have cleaned off this side of the shelf and put all the books back up on that side so quickly!" Chiba said causing Takagi and McGuire to rush around the shelf and look at the side.

"You're right there's not a way we could do that… and we didn't even try to. There's a secret third row of books sandwiched between the two outside rows, none of the books in the middle have a spine on them… and they're all imported books." Irene said taking one of the books down, keeping a close eye on Tuddlebore as she did so.

"Which makes it very easy. To hide narcotics." Irene said forcing the book open to show the packet of drugs inside of the book, causing the officers to quickly grab a book and force them open, showing more packets of drugs.

"Director Tuddlebore has been selling a little bit of the drugs at a time while hiding the rest in this library. There's probably more drugs in that box in the cabinet since the books appeared to be packaged backwards when I looked in there earlier." Irene said causing Takagi to rush over to the cabinet and open one of the books, finding drugs in there too.

"She's right there's more drugs over here." Takagi called back to the others, causing Irene to sigh.

"The missing clerk, Greyback, likely stumbled across the directors secret stash by accident, and was killed for it. Which means that his body is still here in the library." Irene said causing the adults to all turn to her.

"But we've looked in all the obvious places already." Chiba said causing Irene to smirk.

"I know that but I think I might know where the body is. Why follow your eyes when you can follow your nose?" Irene asked causing the adults to all take a few sniff's before Takagi and Chiba covered their noses.

"Yeah. Smells like a dead body alright." Sato said crinkling her nose.

"You guys go wait by the elevator. Sato-nee-chan can you give me a boost? I'm not allowed to run." Irene asked holding her arms up to Sato, who smiled and picked her up easily.

"Sure just tell me where to go." Sato said as she started towards the stairs. Irene whispered into Sato's ear causing the woman to look confused but jog up the stairs. Five minutes later and Sato jogged back down to the others with Irene still in her arms.

"Where'd you two run off to?" Takagi asked confused.

"The elevator control room." Irene said causing the guys to blink.

"Did you think that's where the body is?" McGuire asked confused and causing Irene to shake her head with a small smirk on her face.

"No I just wanted her to change it from auto to manual." Irene said causing them to blink as Sato set her down, before forcing open the elevator doors.

"If my guess is right. Our corpse is down there." Irene said pointing at the elevator shaft as she reached up and pressed the elevator button.

"Earlier when me and the other three saw you guys drive up, George, Mitch, Amy, and I all got into the elevator. Even though there was only four of us, we don't weigh as much as adults do. All four of us and my oxygen tank would only weigh about as much as one adult. There was already four adults on there, they, us, and their stuff wouldn't set off the buzzer but it did. That wouldn't have happened unless there was someone else in the elevator, someone stored on the roof." Irene said as the roof of the elevator was in their sights, showing the dead body on top of it much to most peoples horror.

"You've got a lot to answer for Mr. Tuddlebore." McGuire said glaring darkly at the director. In an instant the director was charging at Irene, intending to throw her onto the elevator roof and watch her be squished. Sato busted out laughing at what Irene did next.

Instead of using her karate or Judo or necklace on him she decided to put the portable oxygen tank in her bookbag to good use by whacking him with it.
