A/N: Welcome back! Thanks for the reviews and favorites. I hope you all had a good Christmas/ Chanukah/ Kwanza- I don't presume to wish you just a Merry Christmas. As an apology/ present I have prepared four chapters for you. Please enjoy.
Chapter thirteen:
"I told your grandfather that I would take care of you for the rest of our lives. My first call was to him, telling him I'm starting tonight. I promised that you would stay in town until you finished school. He and you grandmother are meeting us at the hospital Monday morning. He actually thanked me for loving you so much. I then called Alcide and Sam, they are pissed. I made them promise just to pack and get everything. Alcide and I are leaving tomorrow morning and driving through the night to get what stuff you don't need here to our house. Dad is stashing the boxes until you go through them.
My last call was to set you up at the Hilton in town. You will have a suite with a kitchen. You are under Mrs. Sookie Northman. I am sorry, but you need to rest and you won't there. I love you. Please let me do this for you, I know you don't like me flaunting my money, but please." He pleads, taking me in his arms. "I need you to be safe when I am not around you."
So now I'm a kept woman, I guess. We drive to the Hilton and unload our cars. The room could sleep six but, it's ours for now and mine for the next two months. We settle in and I unpack a little for now.
"Pam will be up on Tuesday to help out. I know you don't like to eat out all the time, but Alcide and Sam will be with us also, so someone who can cook needs to help. Come on, the guys will be here in a couple hours. I want to spend as much time as I can with you alone." He pats the cushion beside him. When I sit down, he twists us sideways and slides me between his legs. I lean back against his chest and he massages my shoulders through my sweater. I fall asleep.
I wake up in a comfortable bed. It's dark and I hear heated voices from the other room. They are arguing over something that happened at my house. I then hear a voice that makes me groan, Pug. A cop I knew from my neighborhood. I see that I am still dressed and go into the living room. Alcide and Sam have busted lips and black eyes. Eric is shaking his head. When he catches sight of me, he looks up. His nose looks like it was broken. My gasp makes Pug turn toward me. He looks surprised to see me. 'My gosh, little Sookie has grown up. I wish her uncle would. Well, I know she will give it to me straight.'
"Okay, boys we'll talk about this later, I need to talk to the officer." I steel my voice. I show him into my bedroom to talk in private.
"Your uncle called to report your things being stolen, by those three in the other room. Fintan told me that they had your permission to take the stuff. Dermot, "tried" to stop them. What's up?" Pug asked me.
"The blonde is my fiancé. He moved me out. One, for me to be able to heal better from my surgery on Monday. Two, to get me away from Dermot, which Fintan could never do. He and his brother are driving my stuff down to their parent's in Tennessee. I am staying in school until I'm finished. When we both graduate, we are getting married. I am a good student; I have never been truant and don't plan to be. They did not kidnap me. Now, what happened to them? Please tell me he looks worse, by the way, their friend is under eighteen." Pug's eyes pop, and he writes it down.
"He roughed Eric up, the others pulled him off and that is the result. Seeing as they were acting on your behalf, I'm not going follow through on Dermot's complaint. However, He's being booked. I wish you luck, he seems like a good guy, and get well soon." We walk out of the room and Eric gets up. 'Are you alright? It wasn't our fault; we tried to do it as nicely as we could. That uncle of yours is an asshole. I am sorry baby, but it is true.' I nod to him.
"Where does it go from here, sir?" he asks Pug. The tall cop pats him on the back. "I am on my way to arrest Dermot for roughing your friend up. Other than that, you will be on my bad list if I ever hear that your hurt Sookie here. I've known her since she was very little. Be good to her son, she deserves it." Pug hugs me and shakes their hands.
I wake up in the morning and find Eric's note.
Lover,
I will be back before you need to go on Monday. Even if I need to hitch all the way back. Take it easy. I will call you. I love you
Eric.
I take a shower, dress, and head out to my car. I haven't been to Talbot's in a few years. I get in my car and drive around the lake. I pull up to the edge of driving range and get out of the car. I hop up on the hood and sit there for a while, thinking over my life so far. I hear someone's mind come across the street. 'She is pretty. I hope she is single, that way I can leave two-timing slut by the wayside.' Well, well, well, he got cheated on.
"Miss, can I help you? We don't open for another couple of weeks." A deep smooth voice asks me. I turn to find its owner. John Quinn, the owner's son, but he goes by his last name. He was a year ahead of me in school and has dated one of my classmates for the past two years. He is also one of the upperclassmen who tricked me a few years ago, he probably doesn't remember.
"I know when you open. I was just thinking about some things. I will move if your parents want me to. I have always come here and I probably won't be back for a long time alone. I'm kind of saying goodbye." I smile sadly.
"You remind me of someone. She was a little plump but she was always nice, even when she was having a bad day. I wasn't that nice to her though. I then went on to date someone who was even worse to her. Anyway, I think I really hurt her. I wish I could make her smile at me again." He looks at me and asks to sit with me for a while.
"Go ahead, you own the land."
"You look like you need a shoulder to cry on. I just found out my girl's been cheating, but what do you expect out of the head cheerleader." He shrugged. 'I have to get her name, she is exquisite. Come on pretty lady, make Quinn's day and give him a chance.' I almost laugh, but that would give me away.
"I don't have that problem. My fiancé is very loyal to me, even though he lives in another state. 'At least I think he is.' I just moved out of my house and into the Hilton. I'm having day surgery tomorrow. In a month, I'm getting married. I graduate in two months. There it is in a nutshell. Like I said, this will probably be the last time I be here." I feel better. I haven't been able to speak to Quinn like this for years. I smile at him. "I'll be going now. It felt good to vent. Thank you for listening, John." I hug him before he recovers from the shock of me knowing his name. 'Who are you? How do you know my name?'
"Hey you know my name, can I have yours beautiful?" He asks. I laugh, "You have never called me beautiful. It might have been better if you saw it before; I know I wished for it to be so, for many years. I don't cheat. Next month, my name will be Mrs. Eric Northman, but now it's Sookie Stackhouse. Goodbye Quinn, I loved you for a long time but I found someone more deserving of my love." I caress his face and get in my car. 'That sounds so familiar. Oh shit, it's her! She was in love with me for years? I was a fool. I could have had that all this time. Well, now all that is left is, how do I get her away from the fiancé?'
I check my messages as I drive to Portland. One from my future husband, asking me to call him back. One from my dad, wanting to thank me for his birthday card, and one from my future brother in law asking me to call them.
I return Eric's call. I can hear Alcide sigh in the background. They have made it to Pittsburgh. They are stopping for lunch and think they'll be home in seven more hours. I ask him to pass the phone to Alcide.
"Hey Sis, how are you feeling?" he asks, sounding tired.
"I feel like shit, and before either of you go ballistic, I want to tell you why. I don't how to deal with such good friends and a good brother and a good husband. I didn't even get a chance to thank you for this whole mess. I love you all. Thank you. I went out to a spot to think and talked to someone about what he did years ago to me. The dumb shit tried to come on to me. I handled it. I'm now on my way to Portland to do some distracted shopping. Maybe I'll find some stuff for my wedding night or honeymoon." I snicker at the gulping and the spit take in the background. "Bye boys, I love you." I hang up.
I find some things in Victoria's Secret. I have some soup at an area restaurant and check my phone again. Eric has left me another message. "It's quarter to seven, your time; Alcide is dropping me off in Memphis so I can catch my flight. I should be in Portland in three and a half hours. If you wait for me, I'll drive you home. I love you, and will see you again." I hang up check the time, it seven thirty.
I call the hotline and enter my info. My surgery is scheduled for nine am, and please come in two hours early to get ready. I write down be at hospital 7am in my planner.
I doubt he's eaten yet. so I wander over to the Hannaford and buy him a box of fried chicken and some potato wedges. I buy a cola for him, also some anti-bacterial soap for my shower tonight.
At ten, I head over to the jetport. I wait for forty-five minutes and they announce the flight from Memphis. I walk to the gate. I buy a large coffee as I pass the counter. He runs out of the gate, his head scanning for me. I wait, watching to see if he can pick me out. He slows to a walk, strolls to the aisle and pulls me to his chest. 'She is like a beacon. I can always find her.'
"I missed you. Your stuff is home. Alcide will fly back while we are at the hospital." He drapes his arm around my shoulders and we walk to my car. I hand him his coffee and he opens my door. I sink in the passenger's seat and promptly fall asleep.
"Baby, wake up. we're back. I need you to open the door." I wake up enough to give him the key card. Eric locks the door and carries me to the bedroom. "I need to know what time we need to be at the hospital. I'll set the alarm."
"We need to be there at seven, Eric." I yawn.
I hear him set his phone. I turn into his embrace. "Let's get some sleep. I love you." He kisses my head and snuggles me close.
A/N: Our first time encountering Quinn. I do like the large tiger. He'll be back again.
