Chapter 37: Gladiator

"Sounds like they have an overwhelming lead when it comes to popularity, huh?" Miwa winced, hearing the loud cheering from the audience as Gai came into the battle arena.

"Is he gonna be okay?" Izaki wondered. "I hope he doesn't cave under the pressure."

"Kamui-san, don't let it bother you." Renji encouraged.

"DB, yo!" Eiji agreed.

"Stand up, Vanguard!"

With that, the first match begun. It was not long before both Cardfighters sustained damage: 3 to 2, to Kamui's advantage.

"I stand and draw." Gai took his turn, both parties' damage were tied at 4 apiece. "I call Cosmo Beak. Counterblast. I add +4000 to the power of my Vanguard, Daiyusha. As it now it has 140000 power, it gains an additional critical, too. Then I call Cosmo Roar. With a boost from Cosmo Roar, Daiyusha attacks Top Gun."

"No guard." Kamui declared. "Damage check."

"With a boost from Diamond Ace, Daiyusha attacks." Gai continued his attack. "Feel power of that's been gathered by the strongest sword of the Dimension Police."

"Kamui-san!" both Renji and Eiji exclaimed in shock.

"I guard with Twin Blader!" Kamui pulled out his defense. "I drop one card from my hand for perfect defense."

"First check." Gai flipped open the top card. "I got a critical trigger. I give +5000 power and the extra critical to Cosmo Beak. Second check." he pulled a second critical trigger. "I give all the effects to Cosmo Beak. With a boost from Cosmo Roar, Cosmo Beak attacks."

"I guard with Clara and Prometheus." Kamui fended.

"That's the end of my turn." Gai ended his turn.

"Even Daiyusha with an activated skill and Cosmo Beak with 2 criticals didn't touch him." Izaki was impressed.

"That's why he's called Kamui-san." Renji gushed.

"Kind of like having the strongest shield to protect against the strongest sword, huh?" Miwa mused.

"Holding out against the stockpile of triggers." even Morikawa was awed. "Not bad for the little brat. All right, I'll make you one of my disciples if you want."

"Over Kamui's dead body." Renji muttered.

"OK, yo." Eiji agreed.

"Which one?" Izaki was confused.

"I said, 'O' 'K' = X." Eiji gestured.

"Ah..." Ami nodded in understanding.

"I see." Miwa chuckled.

"I don't." Izaki complained.

"I stand and draw." Kamui took his turn. "I call Tough Boy. With a boost from Tough Boy, Death Metal attacks Daiyusha. I activate Death Metal's skill. I pay the cost and add +3000 power. I activate Top Gun's skill. This unit gets +1000 power for each rear-guard unit at rest. That's a +2000 total increase. With a boost from Death Army Guy, Death Army Lady attacks."

"I guard with Justice Cobalt." Gai fended.

"It's not getting through." Kamui hissed. "It's heating up here, Gai." he grinned. "I attack with Top Gun."

"I guard with Justice Cobalt." Gai pulled out a second 'Justice Cobalt'.

"Then I'll surpass it." Kamui swore. "Twin Drive! First check." he pulled a stand trigger. "Death Metal stand and received +5000 power. Second check. Got one; a Grade 3. By activating its skill, both Death Army Guy and Lady stand. I attack with Death Metal."

"It's over..." Gai conceded.

"Great job, little brat!" Morikawa called.

"It was wonderful." Renji agreed.

"GJLB, yo!" Eiji concurred.

"Kamui looks really happy." Emi noted.

"That's because he wrestled victory away from the previous runner-up team." Renji explained.

"Um, WV, yo." Eiji added.

"Something interesting is happening over there." Miwa pointed out to the Team Caesar booth.

"He's really getting a tongue-lashing." Izaki sweatdropped, as Gai received a thorough scolding from his older sister.

"Good luck, Misaki." Emi cheered as Misaki and Yuri stepped up.

"Here it comes." Izaki was excited. "I've been looking forward to this fight."

"Why?" Morikawa asked.

"Why?" Izaki echoed. "Those two would make a perfect picture. Unlike a rough fight between two guys, it'll be a magnificent girl power showdown."

"Girl power." Morikawa was confused.

"Let's see..." Izaki mused. "It's a thing that radiates female beauty, glamour, and class from the outside."

"From the inside?" Morikawa blinked.

"Izaki, you're talking to him using the wrong subject." Ami stated wisely.

"You won't get anywhere with him about stuff like that, unless it related to Kourin." Miwa agreed.

"Show me what you've got." Yuri posed. "Come on, attack me with your best shot."

"Stand up, Vanguard!" the second match started.

"I'll go first." Misaki took her turn. "I activate Godhawk, Ichibyoshi's skill. I get to look at the top five cards of my deck and if one of them is Goddess of the Crescent Moon, Tsukuyomi, I can superior ride. I ride Dark Cat. I activate Dark Cat's skill. When this unit appears, both players can draw a card. That's the end of my turn."

"It's my turn." Yuri took her turn. "I ride Enigman Ripple. If Enigman Flow is in the Soul, Enigman Ripple received +2000 power. I activate Enigman Flow's skill; I can take one Enigman Wave from my deck and add it to my hand. I call Magical Police, Quilt. And then, with a boost from Quilt, Enigman Ripple attacks Dark Car. Drive trigger check."

"Damage check." Misaki drew a card.

"When an attack boosted by Magical Police Quilt hits, her skill is activated." Yuri added. "I drop one card and add one to my hand. Sorry, that's the end of my turn."

"So Quilt is a card that lets you switch a card from your hand if the boosted attack hits." Emi summarized.

"Then, next time, she should guard against it, right?" Izaki reasoned.

"No, she can't afford to carelessly reduce the number of cards in her hand, either." Miwa corrected.

"What's the difference?" Morikawa scoffed. "It doesn't matter unless she draws a Grade 3."

"Loser-umi is operating as usual, today." Renji sighed.

"LONT, yo." Eiji agreed.

"I stand and draw." Misaki took her turn. "I rider Goddess of the Half Moon, Tsukuyomi."

"There's no Crescent Moon in the Soul." Yuri pointed out.

"True, I can't activate her skill." Misaki admitted. "But, I call Battle Maiden, Tagitsuhime. I attack with Goddess of the Half Moon, Tsukuyomi."

"No guard." Yuri declared.

"Drive trigger check." Misaki drew a card.

"Damage check." Yuri drew a card.

"I attack with Tagitsuhime." Misaki declared.

"Damage check." Yuri drew a card.

"That's the end of my turn." Misaki ended her turn.

"You're better than my little brother." Yuri chuckled.

"Look closely." Miwa turned serious. "That's girl power."

"Wait a minute." Izaki protested. "That's not right. That's not girl power."

"Girl power." Morikawa declared. "What a terrifying power."

"Girl power is scary." Renji shivered.

"GPS, yo." Eiji concurred.

"Now you've started it." Ami chided the unrepentant Miwa.

"I stand and draw." Yuri took her turn. "I ride Enigman Wave. If Enigman Ripple is in the Soul, Enigman Wave received +1000 power. I call two units of Super Dimensional Robo, Dailady and Cosmo Roar. Now the real game begins. Prepare yourself!"
