AN~ Completely rebooted this one 'cause it didn't make sense in the new order. It used to be a sequel chapter to "Stars," I think. Still really short, but more important this time.
Picture this: you're offered the means to escape your prison (which you've been wrongfully placed in- after all, you never did anything), and all you have to do is betray everyone's trust.
But you'd be free.
You could leave your ten mile-diameter hole in the world and go somewhere outside. You could see France again. Travel. Know what it's like to watch the world changing.
All you'd have to do is not kill a dangerous monster. Just walk away. Take the weapon and use it to get out. Let these people figure out their own messes. After all, what had they ever done for you?
Sure, other people might die. But they might not.
And if you'd literally just been handed the key to your freedom, would you be able to resist?
The Black Knight couldn't.
So he left.
