Entry no. 20: Rebirth
Thanks for reviews, compliments always warm the heart... :)
This oneshot was heavily inspired by the song Love the Way You Lie.
"I'm sorry."
She closed her eyes, drawing in a breath.
The worst about living her life at his side was that she never trusted him a single word he said.
It was all lies.
Opening her eyes again, exposing the sad emerald orbs to him, she looked into his own eyes.
She hoped to see the lie in them again.
I don't trust you, Sasuke, and I never will.
But she didn't.
And the fact itself hurt, it seared her brain.
This time he didn't say a single word, but she knew what was going through his brain.
I never meant for it to end like that, Sakura.
The tiniest hint of smile adorned her lips as her warm hand made contact with the cold skin in the nape of his neck.
It was alright.
She didn't, too.
Staring into his obsidian eyes all the time, she kissed him.
And this time it was all genuine.
The deep love and devotion they showed each other as they kissed, the fire in their eyes, the ache in their hearts.
There was no lie in that.
And moments like that were what kept them up for all the years they shared.
But it wasn't enough anymore.
When she drew back, she smiled.
And he smiled, too.
They didn't want to do it, but they both knew it was right.
"Goodbye, Sasuke-kun."
His eyes were deep and brooding once more, the dark flare in them alluring and frightening at the same time.
"Goodbye, Sakura."
With one last look and one last smile, Sasuke picked up his bag and made his way to the door.
Sakura watched him go, tears stinging in her eyes, thousands of pointy poisoned needles stabbing her heart, feeling sick to her stomach.
But it was right.
The pain was right.
It hurt, and that meant she still loved him, even after everything they've been through.
And she didn't want to stop loving him. She hoped she never would.
Because her love for him was a part of her, a part she would never want to lose.
It would rip her apart.
That way, something inside her just died.
And in that death was a chance for rebirth.
