"Where am I?"

"The strategic homeland intervention, enforcement and logistic division. SHIELD" Stated the women while still leaning against the door casually staring at the confused man.

"Why am I here?"

"You were found frozen in the arctic so we fished you out the ocean and had a team of our best scientists to thaw you out safely. It was the directors idea to let you settle in slowly."

The truth was all around him, from the moment he woke up in the strange familiar room to his escape. Nothing was the same but he refused to think about that. He just kept moving so his mind wouldn't comprehend the inescapable facts.

"Things are different here." Stated the man slowly while still glaring at the women.

"Lots of things have changed since you went under Rogers, 70 years worth of things to be exact."

She expected him to argue, she expected him to lash out refusing to accept that everything he's ever known or loved was now gone, but she never expected his reaction to be summed up in two simple words.

"I see." Said the man calmly as if he had known all along.

"Who are you?"

Earlier…

"Why do I have to greet him?" Snapped Natasha as she glared at Coulson who seemed confused

"Well I would do it myself but I was due in New Mexico… " He stopped and looked at his watch "Yesterday, and honestly it's a simple mission."

"Then why doesn't Fury just have Hill brief him in?" Questioned Natasha as she tilted her head slightly pretending to be confused.

"Well.." Said Coulson awkwardly " He may be volatile upon awakening as we have no idea what the ice may have done to his mental state or even his state of mind before going in the ice."

"Simple?" Said Natasha curtly

"Slightly difficult." Said Coulson

"All agents code 13!"

The panicked voice rang through the intercom as the shuffling of feet could be heard everywhere. An organized panic was set around the organization but there she stood by the door casually chewing her gum. Calm and relaxed as if she didn't have a care in the world, yet inside a war was raging. She's killed and lied more times than she could recall and she was used to people seeking revenge on the black widow. But the idea that in a few minutes she would face the target of her last mission for the red room shook her to her core. Before she could go deeper with her thoughts a bang could be hear from upstairs as a man burst through and into the atrium. He descended the stairs and suddenly they were face to face.

There he stood, eyes flickering with rage and confusion as he looked around his surroundings before turning his attention to her. She didn't know what to say but somehow she found the words coming out anyway.

"Who are you?"

"Natasha Romanoff." She said as her eyes widened for a fraction of a second in surprise before regaining composure.

"Steve Rogers, but I'm guessing you know that already." Said the man with his familiar awkward smile as he extended his hand out to her.

She couldn't help but smile at how different he looked but yet he was the same man inside, a shy kid from Brooklyn who only wanted to do what was right. A good man.

"Yes, I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with who you are Steve." Said Natasha shaking his hand.

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"For being honest. I'd hate to think what "settling in slowly" would have been like."

"Well you should know Captain, I'm not always honest type." She said casually as she began to walk away from the door and towards the elevators.

Steve paused for a moment in confusion trying to figure out what she meant by that but realized he probably should be following this Natasha Romanoff and quickened his strides as he tried to catch up.

"So what is this Strategic Homeland…"

"Just call it SHIELD."

"SHIELD."

"We're the last resort, the safety net that keeps the world safe. We are the one organization that isn't allowed to fail. What we do is mostly classified but I'm sure the director would be more than happy to provide the more intricate details of our operation.

"Directors Office." Said Natasha as the two stepped into the glass elevator.

After a moment of silence where Steve was about to question what she meant a female voice ran through the intercom "Agent Romanoff Level 7, Access Granted."

Steve couldn't see her face as she was facing away from him but a big smile was present as she watched Steve jump and look around in shock as the elevator began to move.

"Relax Rogers." You'll get used to it.

"Seems simple enough." Muttered Steve as he stood behind the female agent.

"You've been asleep for a long time Cap." Said a booming voice as he turned around to face the soldier and spy.

"70 years if I'm not mistaken." Responded Steve.

"70 Years since the world's first super soldier went under, the world is a very different place from what you once knew."

"So I've heard, did we win?"

"Yes we won but we all paid the price of war that time and many times over the last century or so. Your actions in the war and the people you inspired led to the creation of SHIELD."

"The safety net." Chimed Steve

"Espionage, Tactical warfare, intelligence, and everything in that spectrum and more are what we do here at SHIELD. SSR, Navy Seals, Delta Force, CIA, NSA, and every military organization, the best of the best are the ones that work at shield. We protect the world and keep it from plunging into chaos."

"Lots of power for one organization."

"Consistency, Safety, and staying ahead of the next level threat is what we do, and to do that we need the very best especially in times like this."

"Times like this?" Questioned Steve

"You're not the only special one in the world these days, Cap." Said Natasha from behind as she handed him various sets of folders.

Steve skimmed through the folders as Fury filled him on the details.

"Gods, Hulks, and a billionaire genius in an super powered suit." Mused Steve

"And this is only the beginning." Said Fury

"So what now?" Asked Steve

"Agent Romanoff here will show you to your temporary home and you'll find that your bank account has accumulated a good amount of interests and pensions should you need anything. Study up on those files and get caught up, a storm is coming Cap and we all need to be prepared."
