Sorry it took so long to update. Thank you readers for sticking with me. A lot's been going on and I couldn't write. Thank you. I am also going off of memory. I haven't read this book in so long, it seems. I'll have to reread the series I guess. Thanks.
Bethany's POV
Walking to class was a drag, most of all I was showing a new kid around a school in which I was new to myself. Even though I haven't been here long, I knew that this was going to be hard to do. Xavier and I were planning on me being here for at least another year, but I guess that's not the big guys plans.
Xavier was already in class and sitting in his usual spot when I walked in with Jake. Glancing back at the new kid, I could see that he was eying Xavier with an unusual expression. Was it jealousy? Was it hatred? How could anyone feel those things when they haven't even met the person personally. Ignoring the fact that there was now tension in the air, I made my way to Xavier's side and sat down gracefully.
"Who's that?" Xavier asks.
I look in his direction of speech, "Jake, he's from Britain. I guess he just moved here too." I say simply and smile at Xavier.
Something about the way Jake presented himself all seemed somehow off. I mean, suddenly after I arrive halfway through the year this kid does too. It's halfway through the day and he finds me to show him a class he already should have figured out where it was. Don't get me wrong I feel for the kid, but something just didn't seem right. Maybe it's his aura that's making me have these feelings. Maybe he's going through a rough time, and he needs a friend. I should help him get that friend right? I mean after all maybe it's my purpose of being here.
Jake makes his way to the desk behind Xavier and I, after he finished his business with the teacher, and sat there quietly. The feeling of eyes watching my every move then consumed me, and followed me through out the day. Maybe it was just me, but something here was not right, and I have every intention of figuring it out before my week is up.
Maybe if I can build some type of case, they'll let me stay with Xavier. Maybe I can continue life down here on earth like a normal person would live. Maybe I could go to college and have a family. Maybe I could finally be human.
The time dragged on through out the day. Going to the rest of my classes took me every ounce of energy not to leave the class and start discovering. It wasn't until the end of the day that I really had the feeling something was off.
Xavier, who usually was waiting for me by my locker, wasn't there. I mean usually he is. Instead Jake Thorne took his spot. Maybe it's because his locker is unexpectedly next to mine, or maybe it's because something bigger is going on here. I mean our last names are on opposite sides of the alphabet, let alone the class list.
Walking over to my locker, Jake gave a polite smile as I opened my locker. Throwing my books in, a small white card fluttered to my feet. Picking it up, I looked on the other side of the small card.
We're going to get along so well,
don't you think Bethany?
Meet me on the corner of your road, alone.
I may have something you want back.
Everything comes with a price.
