Mutants Misplaced
Chapter 25
Dragons of War
The roars of the two dragons echoed through the night as they headed straight towards each other. Both had their minds set on the same goal, that only one of them would survive this encounter. Tyroth drew his blade and let his mana surge through his body, making him glow red in the dark as he neared his foe.
Lokdrogyol narrowed his eyes as he focused on his soon-to-be victim. He could feel the magic power emanating from him, the same power that he had sensed during their first fight, but at that time, it wasn't used, just present.
Inhaling deeply, Tyroth unleashed a mighty torrent of fire, but Lokdrogyol evaded the flames and breathed fire of his own. The flames swallowed Tyroth completely, but they did little but burn his clothes. Diving through the fire, straight at Lokdrogyol, he swung his large sword at the large dragon.
A cry of shock and pain was heard when the blade cut Lokdrogyol across his back. Turning around to attack again, Tyroth saw Lokdrogyol turn around as well. The large dragon spat a fireball against Tyroth, and he remembered how destructive those were.
Breaking off his attack, Tyroth evaded the fiery projectile and rose higher into the air. But Lokdrogyol wouldn't let him get away and spat another fireball at him. This time, Tyroth countered by collecting fire and mana in his mouth, forming his own fireball that he shot at Lokdrogyol.
The two attacks collided and the nightsky was lit up by the explosion. As the smoke and fire dispersed, Lokdrogyol flew through it and almost snapped Tyroth in half with his mighty jaws. Tyroth managed to avoid the attack and the following attacks from the large dragons clawed feet and tail as they passed each other.
Picking up some speed, Tyroth rose above his foe and dived straight at him, aiming to decapitate the beast with one slash. Seeing his approach in the upper corner of his eye, Lokdrogyol quickly turned his head and shouted.
"Zun Haal Viik!"
A barely visible shockwave hit Tyroth and knocked his sword out of his hands, but it didn't slow him down in the slightest, he continued towards Lokdrogyol, channeling more mana into his right fist. The fist struck the mighty dragon on the side of his jaw with tremendous force and actually knocked out a tooth.
Slightly groggy from the impact, Lokdrogyol was really angry for letting his guard down. With Tyroth coming in for another attack, Lokdrogyol fired several fireballs at him, but the smaller dragon dodged everyone of them. Doing a sharp turn to avoid Tyroth's attack, the large dragon scored a hit by striking the smaller one across the chest with his large tail, sending Tyroth towards the ground.
Regaining control, Tyroth was just about to continue his attack when Lokdrogyol swooped down against him, his mouth wide open and breathing fire. While the fire didn't harm Tyroth, it did obscure his view of his foe. He had to keep moving, take advantage of his greater speed and agility to win this fight. Doing an aerial sidestep, he managed to avoid the attack if just barely, some of the teeth graced him as he passed on the side.
Grabbing on to the side of Lokdrogyol's face, he tried to attack from there, but the larger dragon wouldn't have it, he shook his head violently in an attempt to get rid of the unwanted passenger. Tyroth struggled to keep his grip, his claws digging into the dark scales of his enemy. With his hands occupied and his fire not being effective, he lashed out with his wings, one of them hitting straight in Lokdrogyol's eye. He cried out in a deafening shriek of pain when the sharp talon pierced his delicate eye, blinding him completely on his left side.
Forced to let go as Lokdrogyol continued to shake his head, Tyroth was tossed aside, nearly crashing into the burning woods below him. By landing on a large branch, he used it as a springboard and launched himself back in to the air. Circling around Lokdrogyol, he continued upwards before diving against him. Holding his hands in front of himself and folding his wings on his back, he cut through the air like an arrow, and his sharp claws were the tip.
Cutting straight through the thin wing membrane, Tyroth quickly leveled out to avoid crashing, but was still forced to land. And he wasn't the only one. With a large hole in his left wing, and his eye destroyed, Lokdrogyol couldn't stay airborne much longer and landed in what used to be a small clearing, now it was just another burning area.
Seeing where his enemy was landing, Tyroth didn't waste any time rushing to that place, ignoring the burning woods around him. Coming up on the large dragon's left side, Tyroth delivered another hard punch to the face. While Lokdrogyol did have his head knocked back, he instantly swung it back and hit Tyroth in the chest.
While Tyroth regained his balance, Lokdrogyol launched his follow up attack.
"Fus Ro Dah!" he shouted, as loud as he could. The unrelenting force sent Tyroth flying, snapped the burning trees and tore boulders out of the ground. Then he continued by spitting multiple fireballs, the explosions causing massive destruction.
Lokdrogyol smirked, believing that he had won, but he was quickly proven wrong when a stream of fire shot out of the smoke. The fire did little to hurt the great dragon, but it did tell him that Tyroth wasn't dead yet.
Stepping out of the smoke, Tyroth was panting heavily, covered in cuts and bruises, many bones were either fractured or broken and his right arm had been dislocated at the shoulder joint. Grunting in pain, he managed to push it back into its socket, then he glared at Lokdrogyol and growled loudly.
With his mana acting as a support and keeping his bones in place, all Tyroth had to do was tough out the pain and continue fighting, and he intended to. Dashing against his enemy again, he shot a fireball at the large dragon. It struck the ground right in front of Lokdrogyol, kicking up a lot of dirt and dust in his face. While Lokdrogyol turned away his healthy eye to protect it, Tyroth managed to get close enough to deliver another punch.
He continued to punch, slash and kick at Lokdrogyol, while he countered by trying to bite, swipe and stomp him, both moving around and dodging the other's attacks as best they could. In an attempt to bite Tyroth's head of, Lokdrogyol suddenly found that he couldn't close his mouth. Tyroth had caught both jaws in his hands and was preventing him from finish his bite attack.
With a massive amount of force, Tyroth pulled Lokdrogyol closer and over himself, tossing the mighty dragon several feet, onto his back. Quickly trying to get back on his feet, Lokdrogyol had just barely made it when Tyroth brought down both fists on his head, smacking it into the ground.
Pulling up his head with a roar, Lokdrogyol forced Tyroth backward, but that didn't stop Tyroth, he was hellbent on winning. Charging his hands with extra mana, he rushed back against Lokdrogyol. The great dragon snapped his massive jaws at Tyroth, but he quickly sidestepped and retaliated with a powerful left hook before continuing underneath and jabbing his right hand into Lokdrogyol's chest. Blood sprayed all over Tyroth, as Lokdrogyol cried out in pain, he could feel the large dragon's heart pulse around his hand, stopping as he pulled it out and moved away before the beast collapsed.
Breathing heavily, the glow around Tyroth started to fade as Lokdrogyol lay dead before him.
"Good riddance." Tyroth snarled. His entire body hurt from the fight, but now there was one threat less in the sky, and maybe they could find Raph and Mona. But before he could leave, he saw many glowing spots on the dead dragon. Tyroth steeled himself, having no idea of what was happening, he had to be ready for anything.
The glow spread across the corpse like fire, and it was like the body was on fire. Every scale burned like thin paper, but there was no fire and there was nothing left of the burned flesh, it was as if it was burned out of existence, leaving only the bones. Even the blood on Tyroth vanished in the same way.
As the body continued to burn, some form of bright energy started flowing around it, then it quickly flowed towards Tyroth. He tried to protect himself with his mana, but the bright energy didn't seem to be affected in the least. It poured into his body and soul. Images, words and memories that were not his own, filled his mind and overwhelmed him.
Falling to the ground, and on the edge to unconsciousness, he heard one final thing before everything went black.
A voice like thunder, shaking the very heavens.
"DOVAHKIIN!"
Phew! Hope you're pleased with this chapter, it wasn't easy to make. However this raises more questions that you won't get any answers to at this time, maybe next chapter.
'Darn it! We still don't know what happened to Raph and Mona!' I beat you to it. :p Better luck next time.
