The Pantry
"Sent to bed without supper again?"
The woman's voice made the boy jump, but he relaxed as he recognised her, nodding in response- his mouth too full of the venison pie he'd procured to speak straight away.
"There should be a law against starving your children," he complained eventually, swinging his legs, bare feet knocking against the pantry cabinet he was sitting on.
"One day won't kill you," she replied, amused. "Who did you hit this time?"
"Gareth."
"Don't blame you. Horrid child." He licked his fingers and grinned at her. "Want a second piece, Arthur?"
"Oh, yes please, Audrey."
