I was about to publish this last night when FF went down and so I was going to dedicate it to 'Merlin's' Fifth Birthday.
Fascinate
It had seemed like a bad joke on my father's part; and the king of Camelot never did have much of a sense of humour. Rewarding that annoying, gangly, cheeky young man with one of the most prestigious jobs in the Palace; one that would require us to spend large amounts of time in each other's company too. What was he thinking?
However, it wasn't long before my attitude towards Merlin slowly started to change. He was like a new born foal; all long legs, big ears and clumsiness, and yet it was those very traits that made me start feeling protective towards him; possessive even. So much so that, when Father later suggested I replaced Merlin with someone more competent, I turned down the offer a little too hurriedly, causing the king to look at me strangely; confused by my sudden change of heart.
I still have no idea what it is about Merlin that grabs my attention. He's still not that good at the job, is still rude and disrespectful and yet it's those very traits that also fascinate me; making me curious about exactly what sort of man he is and what secrets he might be hiding.
