Thwarting Destiny
"Hello."
Merlin stopped his rather tuneless whistle and turned to face the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen; her eyes such a bright blue that they hardly seemed real.
"H-hello," he replied.
"Where are you going?"
He grinned. "I'm to live in Camelot."
"Is that wise? It's a very dangerous place for people like us."
"Like us?"
In reply she raised her palm and uttered one word, causing a tiny flame to dance on her palm. Merlin stared at her wide-eyed.
"My name is Nimueh," she purred. "And I have a much better offer for one as talented as you."
