A/N: I uploaded two chapters, since this one is half of what I usually update for this story and also it's more of a filler, and spans over a couple of days. This is the second chapter of the update this week so be sure not to miss the previous chapter.

Chapter 53

(Leon's POV)

I woke up to a highly irritating sound of the alarm; I tried to ignore it while I hoped that Kate would get it but nothing like that happened. I opened my eyes to find that Kate wasn't even by my side and by the sounds of it she was in the bathroom. The alarm clock was sitting at her bedside table so I reached for it, hitting the stop button but the alarm didn't stop which made me hit it 2-3 times more before I realized the alarm wasn't coming from the clock but Kate's phone which was resting on the bedside table too. I picked it up and looked at it, its screen was blinking red and sound was coming from it but I couldn't comprehend how to stop that annoying alarm tone. I tried tapping and sliding the touch screen but nothing happened, I pushed the home button and again nothing happened, it seemed it was broken or something.

I really felt frustrated with her phone, it was same model as mine but I couldn't figure it out. I walked inside the bathroom, "Leon!", Kate yelled from the other side of the shower curtain as usual, "Can't you let me have shower in peace, just for once."
"Well I would have but your phone woke me up", I told her annoyed and I held it close to the shower so she could hear the irritating tone.
"Give me that!", she said with a tone of urgency and stretched out her hand from between the shower curtains and I handed her the phone. And I don't know what she did but she stopped the hellish alarm.
"That was pretty irritating tone for an alarm", I said as she stepped out of shower working on her phone.
"Sorry about that", she replied without looking up, she seemed a bit occupied with her phone.
"Change it immediately and why put an alarm when you are going to wake up before that", I couldn't help but complain.
"I forgot about it", she said looking at me, "I'd see to it that it doesn't disturb your sleep", she added in a business-like tone.
"You better do that", I said starting to shave.
"Anyways I'd better go make breakfast otherwise we'd be late", she said and before I replied she left.

I took my usual time getting ready for work and then descended down the steps. I walked into the kitchen where Kate was pouring coffee for me. I took a seat on the high stool and she served me breakfast before moving out to get ready, herself. She seemed to be in a hurry even when we weren't getting that late and were on time. I noticed her notebook on the counter as I sipped my coffee, 'Was she working?!', I couldn't help but think. It was unlike her to work at home, very rarely she did that but well who am I to complain, I work from home every time I get home early.

(Leon's POV)

I pushed open the bedroom door and was more than shocked to see Kate still awake. I looked at my watch it was over 1:00AM in the morning, more over she was working on her notebook again. She hit a button and relaxed, "Oh you're back so early?", she said spotting me.
"Sweetheart you okay?", I asked her concerned moving to her.
"Yeah I am fine, why you ask?", she asked puzzled.
"Well for starters it 1:00 in the morning", I told her letting out a laugh.
Kate looked at her phone to check the time, "I didn't notice the time", she said with a smile.
"I can see that", I said getting out of my jacket and sitting at the end of bed, "So what were you doing, that got you so occupied."
"Online shopping", she replied turning off her notebook.
"Did you buy another sexy nightdress or lingerie", I asked teasing her as she kept away her notebook.

"Of course not", Kate said in a matter of fact tone, turning a little red, "You had dinner?"
"Yeah, I didn't know you were awake otherwise I would have called you to help me out in the kitchen", I told her.
"Oh well I wasn't getting any sleep so I decided to check a few things online and then one thing led to another and I was browsing those online catalogues", she told me.
"So bought anything?", I asked her grinning.
"No, nothing interesting", she said and yawned, "well I am sleepy, you go have shower."
"Sure", I said as she lied down to sleep, "Good night!", I wished her.

"Good night", Kate mumbled, as if almost half asleep. It seemed she was too tired to fall asleep like that. I couldn't really understand women's obsession with shopping, they had to shop till they literally drop. I shook my head in disbelief and let out a laugh seeing my wife's tired state. I moved by her side pulled on blanket on her and she smiled mumbling a, "Thank you!"
"You're Welcome!", I said kissing her forehead before moving to get my clothes to have shower and then sleep myself.

(Leon's POV)

I almost hit the other car as Kate's phone rang, if I thought that the alarm was annoying this ringtone was super annoying, "What is that?", I couldn't help but say as Kate silenced it.
"Uh… Saunders calling, can you drive a bit faster", she said urgently.
"I can of course", I told her speeding up a bit, "but don't you think lately you have really an odd ringtone, it's almost like a warning tone for a natural disaster. I mean it almost made me hit the other car."
"I am sorry about that", she apologized typing something on her phone, probably a text.
"You seem a bit distracted", I said to her looking at her briefly.
"I am sorry", she apologized again but she didn't look at me, "I just want to get to work ASAP."
"Well don't worry you'd be on time", I assured her; "It's me who would be late."
"Yeah more the reason for you to drive faster", she said to me.

"It seems like you are meeting someone at work", I couldn't help but tease her, "Are you having an affair behind my back?"
"No I am not!", Kate replied seriously and finally looking up at me from her phone. It seemed she didn't catch my joke.
"Relax I was just joking", I told her calming her down.
"Oh, I am sorry I didn't catch it", she apologized yet again.
"Yeah since you were not paying attention to me and seriously it's bothering me a bit", I told her seriously, "and now I really doubt if you really have an affair", I added jokingly.
"Maybe I have, maybe I don't", she replied smiling getting back to her phone.

"Who is it really?", I leaned in to see who or what she was texting as I stopped my car in front of HQ. I was hoping or expecting to see a text window but the screen was black with white text on it. She wasn't definitely texting; I don't even know what she was doing.
"Oh we're here already", Kate said hiding it away from me and getting out of the car before I could ask her anything, "See you later!", with that she left.

I watched her as she hurried inside the building; her behavior was super odd for past three days. Working at home, staying up late till 1:00 AM that too for shopping and now rushing in to work like that, that was so unlike her. I sighed hoping that I was thinking too much on this and started the ignition to head to White House.

(Leon's POV)

As I drove home I couldn't help but think about Kate and her odd behavior. There was clearly something bothering her, she was over working herself so much so that it showed on her face. I wondered if Kate felt like this when I worked day and night too but currently she was even beating me to it. Just last night she woke up about 3:00 AM in the morning and started working and I wouldn't even have known about it if I hadn't had a nightmare that woke me up in the middle of the night too. I thought I was over thinking it but it wasn't clearly the case. I looked at my watch it was 10:00 PM, Kate would be still be awake now possibly so I decided to talk to her about it. I pulled my car on the driveway and walked towards the house. Shadow greeted me as usual and I walked in the living room, where twins were watching TV, they were again visiting Kate over the weekend.

"Hey girls!", I greeted them.
"Hey Leon", they greeted back in chorus totally absorbed in their show.
"Where's Kate?", I asked them
"In the study", Jessica replied to me.
"What's she doing there?", I couldn't help but ask, even though I knew she might be working again.
"Don't know said she needs to take care of something", Leslie said.
"I see", I said moving towards the study.
"Oh and do you know what's with her horrible alert tones", Jessica asked me and I shook my head.
"It's like fire alarm going off", Leslie said and they both laughed as I moved to study.

When I entered the study, Kate had both her and mine notebook on and she was alternating typing between both of them. The screen was black and text was in green. When I neared the setup I noticed the text was in binary language, "You can't get away now", she muttered under her breath typing on her notebook and then pressed enter, "Yes!", she yelled throwing her hands in air and spun in her chair and her expressions turned blank when she noticed me, "How long you've been here?", she asked me and I looked at the screens of our notebooks and she hit some button on hers which power out both her and my notebooks.

"A few minutes", I replied to her, "just when you were about to celebrate god knows what."
"Nothing much", Kate replied as the color of her face returned, "let me go get dinner ready for you", she stood up smiling and she looked really happy as she began to walk away.
I grabbed her hand and she looked back, "I don't like how you're over working yourself", I said pulling her close keeping my hands on her waist.
"Look who's talking", she said rolling her eyes.
"You be yourself, don't take on my role", I said to her smiling, "I can't take care of you, as I have said before."

"I know and you don't have to worry anymore", Kate said closing the gap and surprisingly placing a kiss on my cheek.
"You missed, my lips are here", I flirted with her.
"Leon!", she said and laughed a bit making me laugh too, "c'mon have dinner, you must be hungry." Kate released herself off my grip and I watched her as she left the room, I somehow knew for sure that she was back to herself now, "Hey you coming right?", she asked from the door.
"Yeah", I replied and followed her.

Within moments my dinner was set and Kate sat down with me as I had dinner. This was something usual now a days for her to keep me company if she was awake and I had my dinner, "So how was work?", Kate asked me with a smile.
"It's been very troublesome lately", I replied enjoying my dinner.
"Oh why?", she asked me in a concerned tone.
"Well there have been too many changes to my schedule lately", I told her the truth, sighing out of tiredness.
"Well it'll be all fine now", Kate said to me in a confident tone.
"You are awfully confident about it", I couldn't help but say, letting out an amused laugh.
"Well call it a woman's intuition", she said shrugging, "I just feel and hope that things would get better now", again I could make out a very strong conviction in her words as she spoke.
"And if it did not get better then?", I asked raising my brow flirting and being suggestive. Kate gave me a furious look of disbelief and I quickly stole a kiss from her, earning a hit from her as twins cheered me on, "Okay, this would be enough."
"You're an idiot!", she huffed crossing her arms.

And before I could say anything my phone rang, "Guess our hopes went down the drain", I commented sarcastically seeing Hunnigan's number on my phone, "Yeah, Hunnigan?"
"Leon, I am sorry but we have re-schedule your duties again", she informed in a regrettable yet an urgent tone.
"What?! Why?", I couldn't help but ask, even though I was half expecting it.
"Well someone tried to access our databases", Hunnigan informed me all about the situation and I was glad to know that the hacker wasn't really able to access anything and this re-scheduling was more of a precautionary measure, "So I'd be handing over your schedule tomorrow."
"Alright then", I said and disconnected the call.

"What happened?", Kate asked me concerned and I explained the situation to her, while I ate my dinner.
"Well on the brighter side, I'd have my kisses", I smiled at her.

Kate just rolled her eyes and chose not to respond. She took my empty plates to the sink and washed the dishes, while I joined twins to watch a movie with them. Once she was done, both she and I headed up to our bedroom to sleep, leaving the twins behind, since I had to wake up early because I had to work even though it was weekend.
