Chapter 15: There's a monster under my bed!
Lily POV
"Ahhhhhh!"
My head bounced off the grey stone wall, creating a thin crack on the back of my skull. Pain exploded through me, as stars clouded clouded my vision. I felt rough hands encase my throat, its sharp nails digging into my neck. Blood oozed out from the forming gashes. The pressure on my windpipe started to cut off my air circulation, causing the lightly throbbing of my headache to become an unbearable pounding.
"Let me go", I wheezed clawing at the wall! "Let me go!"
Its blood shot eyes narrowed dangerously. "No. At least not until you're dead."
My body jerked awake, as I bolted upright in the small, petite sized bed. Sweat dripped down from my forehead and my labored breath turned into tiny gasps.
That dream, that awful dream felt so real.
My hands trailed over the sides of my neck. I didn't feel any holes nor warm blood.
It was just a dream.
My eyes scanned the darkness. The outlines of the furniture illuminated by the moon light could be seen.
Good. I wasn't in that cold dark, place anymore.
Squeak Squeak
What was that? I clenched my sheets hard, until my knuckles turned white.
Squeak Squeak
Something dashes across the floor.
My breath quickened again.
It's just my imagination. Only my imagination. "Ahhh!" Something had ran across my lap.
I quickly untangled myself from the covers, and jumped out of the bed. Immediately, stories about monsters being under the bed ran into my mind. I knew that there was no such things as monsters, and they didn't live under kids beds; but from what has been going on lately, anything, even children stories and myths, anything was possible.
Squeak Squeak
In the moon light, I saw something move under the bed. What if it was a Demanouson? What if THEY were here to get me?
I backed away closer to the door, ready to run. Maybe if I count to three it will leave.
One.
Squeak Squeak
Two.
Something scurried on the floor.
Three.
It landed on my foot.
I screamed and ran out the room.
Underneath the bed was a family of space mice wondering what all the commotion was about.
Poke.
"Nanny."
Poke.
"Nanny."
Poke. Poke.
"Nanny."
Poke.
"Nanny!"
A tired groan emitted from the old lady's mouth. Her eyes fluttered open, as she yawned. "What is it child", she asked softly seeing the distress look on my face?
"There's a monster under my bed", I cried! "It has sharp teeth like fangs, and blood shot eyes, and claws, and..."
"Lily", she shushed me gently putting a hand on my cheek. "The is nothing to be afraid of. You are safe now-"
"No I'm not", I said cutting her off. "They're after me. They will come and take me away! Kristine and the Demanousons will hurt me, and they'll get Daniel to kill me and..." I took a deep breath. "... I'll die!"
I burst into tears.
I was so scared. I didn't want to die. I didn't want THEM to get me!
Nanny quickly sat up, kicking the covers aside. She reached for me and lifted me up to her lap. I buried my head in her chest still sobbing.
I can still hear THEIR voices in my head. All of them threatening my to cause me harm. To cause me pain.
I felt soft fingers run through my tangled hair, soothing me. The warm touch was calming and I slowly started to settle down.
"Your brother told me that this might happen", replied Nanny.
I sniffled. "He did", I asked weakly?
She nodded. "Yes. He had a feeling that with everything that you have been through that there was a possibility that you've been traumatized."
"Traumatized", I repeated? That was a new big word. "What does that mean?"
"Well", she started thinking about it for a moment. "It means that the mind has been mentally scarred from an event. It normally happens after when something horrific occurs which causes traumatization. "
"Oh", I said understanding the definition. "How do I get rid of the tra- traumi- traumatization?"
Nanny chuckled at my attempt to pronounce the new-found word. "I don't know", she said. "Sometimes you can repair a mind and other times you can't, it.."
"... all depends on how drastic the damage is", I finished.
"Exactly", said Nanny. "That's just what I was going to say."
I smiled.
We continued to stay in our comforting position for a while. Amy was held tightly in my grasp, the same way I was held gently in Nanny's. I silently listened to her heart beating, as my eyes were getting heavy.
"Nanny", I said fighting to stay awake?
"Yes Lily", she answered.
"Do you think Daniel really cares about me", I asked sitting up?
"Well of course", she said. "Your brother loves you, and will do anything to protect you. Every-time I see him, all I see in his eyes is someone who will give up the whole world just to be with his sister. To care and always love for."
Yawning, I leaned back on her, satisfied with the answer. "Do you think", I began rubbing my eye, "that Kristine will find a way to persuade him to kill me?"
I felt Nanny stiffen at the question. "I'm not sure", she replied. "It all depends on what kind of tricks she has, and by what Larmina, Vince, and Daniel have told me; Kristine is very cunning. But... you shouldn't worry. I have faith that your brother will find a way to stop THEM. And in the end everything will be okay."
Nanny POV
The child had gotten quiet, as I finished talking. I looked down at her to find her sleeping; doll secured in her hands. Tiny soft snores came from her exhausted body. Smiling, I stroked her hair to comfort the little girl.
I sighed. This precious child has been though so much in the past years. Losing her parents, being in an orphanage, kidnapped, almost killed, and now on the run has to have taken its toll.
Carefully, I stood up and place Lily in my bed. She stirred just a little bit, but didn't wake up. I pulled the cover over her shoulders and tucked her in. It reminded me of the time when I took care of Allura and Larmina when they were younger.
My heart warmed at the memory, as I continued to run my fingers through her hair.
Lily is truly an magnificent child.
Thank you for being patient with me. For now on in the Voltron Force world, this story will be the only one being updated until it is finished. Snapped is now being delayed, but will soon have another chapter.
