"Ashley," Spencer said leaning against the lockers.

"Hm," I said trying to tie my shoelace.

"I want to tell my parents about us," she said sitting down the look me in the face.

"Are you sure?" I asked getting up and throwing a shirt on.

"Well, I figured that since we've been dating each other for a while, they should know."

"Then we'll tell them," I said giving her a kiss, "I'll met up with you after."

I rushed out of the locker room and headed towards my car. My mother called me and told me that I had to pick up Sid from a friend's house. It took me a while to find the house, until I saw Sid running around the front lawn with a water gun. I pulled up next to the house and got out of the car. When I rounded the corner of the car, I felt streams of water hit me. I momentarily froze with a shocked expression.

"You are so dead mister," I said shaking the water from my body and running after Sid. He and his friend sprinted across the lawn, but I was too quick for me. I grabbed Sid around the waist and pulled him to the ground.

"Ah Ashley, your squashing me," he said laughing.

"It's your fault for soaking me with water," I said pulling him up, "you ready to go?"

"Yeah, I'll go grab my things," he said walking back into the house.

I made my way back to the car. My shirt was completely soaked, and my jeans had random wet spots over them. Sid came out a few minutes later carrying his bags. I tried to give him the silent treatment on the way home, but he ended up breaking me within the first few minutes. This is what I love about him; no matter how angry I am he is always there to lighten the mood.

We pulled up into the driveway and I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket.

Spencer: Hey do you think that you could come over now?

Me: Like this moment?

Spencer: Yeah, my parents are…um…here

I quickly opened the door for Sid before running over to Spencer's. Spencer must have seen me coming because she opened the door before I could get to it.

"Hey is everything alright?" I asked peering into the house.

"Yeah, my parents came home early and why are you wet?" she asked pointing at my clothes. I had forgotten that my clothes were still wet from Sid.

"Long story, Sid and his friends had water gun. Anyways what happened with your parents?"

"Um…they want to talk to you…" she said motioning me into the house.

I carefully walked into the living room. I became very aware of everything around me, especially my wet clothes. Spencer's parents were sitting on the coach staring at Spencer and I. I had met Spencer's parents before, but usually only for a few minutes, most of the time they were working.

Spencer motioned for me to take a seat in the chair next to her. She gave me a warm smile before turning her attention to her parents, who were still staring at me.

"So Ashley," Arthur started, "how are you?"

"I'm okay," I said rocketing back and forth in my chair. My nervous were completely on edge.

"May I ask why your clothes are wet?" Paula asked me.

"My little brother, he thought it would be fun to shot his sister with a water gun," I said fiddling with the wet spots on my shirt. I felt Spencer's hand reach out and stop my hands from fiddling.

"So from my understanding, you are dating our daughter, is that correct?"

"Yes, sir," I said grabbing Spencer's hand.

"For how long?" Paula asked me.

"Mom, why are you asking her all these questions?" Spencer said butting in.

"Honey, we want to know what's going on in your life. We have the right to know," Paula said glaring at Spencer like she had offended her in some way.

"Yes, but you don't have the right to question my girlfriend like this," Spencer retaliated.

"Spencer, we are only doing this for your own good," Arthur said sternly, which made Spencer quiet down and sit back in her chair. She gave me an apologetic look.

"As I was saying, how long have you too been together?" Paula asked this time more directly.

"It'll be eight months next week," I replied. My hands were becoming clammy and starting to shake a little. In all my life I have never been asked questions by the parents of the person who I was dating.

"Have you two had sex?" Paula asked in a monotone voice.

"Mom!" Spencer said taken aback by her mother.

"Please answer the question Ashley," Paula continued, "have you two had sex?"

"No Mrs. Carlin, we have not had sex," I said staring her straight in the eyes.

"Spencer, is this true?" her father asked her. Spencer nodded keeping her lips pursed. I had a feeling that if Spencer had decided to say something, it wouldn't be a nice something that came out of her mouth. And, no Spencer and I have not had sex. I'm letting her decide when she's ready.

"What are your intentions with our Spencer?" Arthur asked. These questions were really starting to get to my head.

"To love your daughter and to care for her."

"And if you break her heart…"

"I'm not going to break your daughter's heart. I am going to love it with all the love that I can give."

"I hope that is the case," Paula said leaning back on the couch.

"It is," Spencer said trying to stop this 'interrogation.'

"Very well Ashley, thank you very much," Arthur said getting up from the couch. He and Paula retreated into his study. I sat there trying to figure out what had just gone down.

"I'm sorry about my parents," Spencer said kneeling down in front of me.

"Don't be, all parents are curious about their children's relationships," I said, "I've just never been interrogated like that before."

"It'll just how my parents deal with it, I guess."

"Yeah…"

Spencer pushed herself off the ground and captured my lips.

"What was that for?" I asked with a smile.

"For being the best girlfriend," she said capturing my lips once again.

Arthur's POV

"So what do you think?" I heard Paula say from the corner of the room.

"I think that Ashley is a very special person in Spencer's life."

"There's something more than that, but I can't figure out what?"

"I think it's called love," I said pulling Paula towards the window of my study door.

I watched as Spencer got down in front of and tucked a strand of hair behind Ashley's ear. She was smiling as she said something, before she kisses her. I've seen Spencer is relationships before, but I don't think that I have ever seen her so in love, and Ashley isn't like the person Spencer's dated in the past. I can tell that Ashley cares about Spencer very much; by the way she looks at her. It's a caring, loving look, but protective.

Ashley's POV

"So what happens now?" I asked glancing towards the study doors.

"Life continues," Spencer said.

"What about your parents?"

"Well, I guess since they haven't come out and yelled at you, its means they like you," Spencer said shrugging her shoulder. The Carlins should like me; I've been their neighbor for over nine months. I watched as Spencer disappeared into the study. That was even more nerve-racking than the questioning; first of all I didn't know what was happening behind those doors, and second, Spencer has been in there for what felt like hours. About ten minutes later Spencer reappeared with a straight face. Each step she took towards me felt like a brick on my shoulders. She held out her hand and pulled me off the chair, before kissing me.

"They love you," she said pulling me into a hug, which calmed my nerves.

"So does this…um…always happen?" I asked composing myself again. I was overjoyed by the fact that Paula and Arthur accepted me.

"Not normally, they've only done it with you and Carmen."

When finished our conversation, and tried to avoid the subject of Carmen. Arthur and Paula didn't reappear until we had left the house. My mother had just pulled into the driveway, so we decided why not tells my mom too. I mean my little brother already knows and I'm sure that my mother will be happy too.

"Hey mom," I said coming up the door of her car.

"Hey sweetie, how was your day?" she said getting out of the car.

"Good, do you have a minute so we can talk?" I asked.

"Of course, is everything okay?" she asked as her eyes scanned Spencer's then mine.

"Yeah, I just have to tell you something things," I said guiding her into the living room. She took and seat and gripped the chair like I was going to tell her something awful.

"Mom, relax, your making me a little nervous," I said taking a seat next to Spencer on the couch.

"I'm sorry honey, I'm just bracing myself, in case what you have to tell me is dismal."

"I'm dating again," I told my mother. She let out a small sigh of relief and loosened her grip on the armchair.

"That's wonder. I'm so glad to hear that you've been able to move on and start life again," she said pulling me into a tight hug.

"So who is this wonderful young women?" My mother asked. I turned and looked at Spencer. My mom followed my gaze to Spencer, then back at me.

"Spencer?" she asked.

"Spencer."

"Oh," she said going over to Spencer and practically pulling her off the couch and hugging her, "Oh Spencer, how wonderful." I had to pry my mother off of Spencer; it was somewhat embarrassing.

"Mom, you're suffocating her."

"Oh, Spencer. I'm sorry. I'm just so happy. You don't know how long I've waited for this," she said wiping a tear from her eye. Mom, really.

"Oh I'm so happy for you too," she said pulling both of us into a hug.

"Thanks mom," I said giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"You've made me the happiest person ever," I whispered into Spencer's ear.

"I couldn't imagine my life without you."
