Extra 1:
The Night Wears On
Naruto's lips curled up in a diabolical smirk. Sasuke's lips turned into a worried frown. The mischievous fox looked at the confused raven. "Then we must find out the truth…" He said to the dark haired one. Sasuke shook his head feverishly. "But Akina, never hides things from you. This must be important… we need to find out what it is…" The 'it' in question was a small teal book that Akina had been reading the past week. It fell along the time the Rooky Nine and Team Guy began to act strange. It raised suspicion amongst the dynamic duo. However, only Naruto thought that is was something worthwhile.
"Naruto, it's probably nothing, probably just her calendar or something." Sasuke muttered picking up his cup of tea.
Naruto slammed his hand onto the round green tabletop in his kitchen, startling Sasuke and Hinata who was in the other room reading a book. "But what if it is something?! Will you live your life not knowing?!"
So that night Sasuke and Akina sat around in the living room. Akina was with a pencil and that book he could only see the edges of the teal cover and not anything that was written inside. Sasuke could not concentrate for the life of him on the mission report that was on his lap; he couldn't do anything but stare at the teal color. "Hey Akina?" She looked up at him and across the room, as each sat on their respective seats. "What is that book? You've been on it for a week now."
She immediately got flustered and desperately tried to find an excuse. "Nothing important… just a notebook. Ah… ha, don't think about it, Sasuke."
The following day Sasuke found himself grimacing at Naruto's devilish grin. "Say… let's go find out what it is."
"This is not going to be an unmasking Kakashi adventure, Naruto!" No, that was exactly what it ended up being. They ended up more or less staking Akina around Sasuke's apartment through the windows. She was reading the book but never did she face the windows so they couldn't read the contents.
It started with them trying to peer through the window, looking over her shoulder at the books. They started sneaking, their backs against the wall of the apartment building, and started tiptoeing closer and closer to the window. Once they reached it, they both looked over the boarder of the window. They found Akina seated in her seat, comfortably curled up with her pencil and that small teal book, her back to the window. They attempted to stand on their toes to look over her shoulder but saw something highlighted in pink.
"Ouch." Naruto said when Sasuke accidently leaned too much on his head. Akina's head immediately bolted up from the book and both barely had enough time cower down below her line of sight before she turned. They stopped and stood silently, knowing she was going to take a minute to inspect that area behind her. They heard a sigh and then fabric brushing against itself. They looked at each other and shook their heads.
They came out with another plan. The next day they reconvened early in the morning, watching Akina with the teal book as she walked down the streets. She finally closed it and put in the outer most pocket of her purse. She was out to get groceries. Naruto turned to Sasuke with a bright grin. "This is it…" He said. Sasuke jolted at the manacle expression his best friend wore.
As Akina stood by a vendor buying some fruits she stood by a tree. Sasuke was gingerly trying to lower Naruto down so he could pick the small notebook from Akina's purse. She moved to go towards the cashier. Naruto was startled at his sudden movement and started to flail. It caused Sasuke to lose his grip but it was the foot that brushed against his chin that caused him to let go of his best friend and let Naruto fall face first to the ground.
Both the cashier and Akina turned around with their eyes wide. "Naruto!" Akina called.
He scrambled to his feet; his face bright red and covered with a thin layer of dirt. "H-Hi! Sorry I tripped over my own feet!" He laughed nervously and scratched the back of his head. "I'm going to go! Bye!" Naruto started to run, leaving Akina stunned as Sasuke hid behind the tree, rubbing his injured chin.
They reconvened in the afternoon, tailing her most of the day. But when she was suppose to go home, she made a wrong turn catching the attention of both boys. When she finally stopped it was outside of a restaurant with Sakura. She handed her a small bag and the two of them talked. It was too loud for the dynamic duo to hear. However, they both became alarmed when the girls started laughing and Sakura placed a knowing hand on her shoulder.
"… Oh." Naruto started, "This has to be terrible."
"When did they get so close?" Sasuke muttered in disbelief.
Before the boys could investigate further, a voice called out behind them but in the softest way possible. "Naruto-kun! Sasuke-san!" They both looked back to see Hinata standing directly behind them. They both jumped and then a pair of draped over their shoulders. They both looked towards each other but found Sakura instead.
"Hinata-chan, I'm glad you found them! It's tea day today, right?!"
Their stomach's dropped as they looked each other, a clear expression of terror on their faces.
It would be two and a half hours before Sakura and Hinata finally left the two boys. Once they were gone both Sasuke and Naruto turned to each other. "What are they plotting?" Sasuke asked.
"Something terrible… We need to find that book! Sasuke, we need to go to your house!" Naruto proclaimed. "Get there and get to the bottom of this!"
Sasuke nodded and they dashed off. They rushed towards the apartment, the last Uchiha shared with the burnette waitress. They got to the building and ran up the stairs and when they tore open the door, night had fallen. Akina, the Rookie Twelve, Sai and Team Guy greeted them with a cake topped with an assortment of fruit in Akina's hand and a candle on top. "Happy Birthday, Sasuke!" They cheered.
Out of breath, Naruto and Sasuke looked at each other before falling into a heap on the floor. As Akina's first instinct was to lift the cake up and away from the commotion. Sai smiled and tilted his head. "Told you they'd do this." He said to Sakura. who immediately replied with a glare. There was silence before it was cut by Naruto's groan.
"Idiot…" Sasuke muttered.
A/N: Happy birthday, Sasuke! This is just a fun situation that's been lingering in my mind since I ended the story and I wanted to share it! I hope you all enjoyed this!
