The cactus that came back
***
Starscream (lord…) leaned against the table morosely. A pile of empty Energon cubes towered over the slender mech. Holding a picture frame, the seeker wiped away a bead of lubricant that was running down his faceplates. In the picture; a sunny day on the Nemesis's flight deck with him smiling and holding his beloved cactus. A sniff echoed in the commander's (lord's… oh, whatever…) quarters.
"Oh, my dear dear friend…" The seeker mumbled, biting his lip, trying to stifle a whimper. "What cruel twist of fate befell you and led you to abandon me in this wretched world inhabited with wretched fleshlings…? Oh, this fiery longing that incinerates my spark with each passing cycle!"
He gulped down another cubeful of Energon. "Why, in the name of Primus, why?!"
Hic.
"…Why…?"
His CPU hurt. Truly hurt. It felt like a thousand Insecticons were trying to claw their way out of his helm while furiously playing bag pipes along the tune of a Slash Monkey song. The utter agony was visible on his faceplates, halfly twisted as a grim sneer. Cleverest of the drones knew to avoid the commander (LORD! Ouch…!) when he was like this, however rare it was.
The seeker dragged his pedes forwards, his step missing its usual spring.
That was, until, Primus intervened.
A Vehicon, en route to the med bay, passed the tired second-in-command (LORD! Ow!),while holding something in his servos, unsure of what the thing in question was.
Starscream stopped in his tracks.
Was that…?
He blinked and turned to gaze over his shoulder and wing as the Vehicon from earlier passed a corner.
THERE!
"You!" The sleek grayish-red mech bellowed. "HALT!"
The drone jerked visibly by the sudden command and the item he had been holding slipped his servos.
On that corridor, everything slowed down. The seeker, running as fast as he could make his pedes move (though however slow it felt to him) , stretched his servos and dived for the blurr of green and brown. Small sparks flickered as his chest and knees scraped against the corridor floor, leaving ugly looking gashes in his otherwise well-maintained finish and paintjob.
Got it!
Time seemed to return to its usual tempo and the baffled Vehicon stared at the giggling mech lying in front of his pedes, clutching that thing against his chest as if having finally crushed the Autobot forces single-handedly.
The hysterical fits of laughter had attracted others to the scene and a ring started to form around the seeker. With a feather-light jump Starscream was back on his pedes, his adorable lil' Cactus tucked under one arm and a smile reaching from one audio receptor to the other coloring his features.
The commander (LORD!) cleared his voice box slightly and crocked an optic brow. The drones looked at each other and realized to step aside.
"Better~!" Starscream cooed and resumed walking towards the bridge.
And the joy in his steps was back and his headache was gone.
Yes, the Cactus survived! ^^ I told you no cacti were harmed while writing these fics.
