Chapter 3: Unexpected Meeting

"Damn…I can't find them, where are they?!" Conan checked the whole campus to search for Ran & the Detective Boys but he can't find them. "So…I'm really the only one here huh?" Running out of breath, he stopped and rests his back on the wall only to realise that he's actually on the school's rooftop. The rooftop doesn't show a natural blue sky, instead, it was replaced by artificial moon with numerical symbols floating in the air.

Conan is busy resting on the side when he heard someone spoke…

"Hmm…I've investigated this school from top to bottom but there's nothing unique or interesting around."

A woman's voice. Conan tried to take a look on who is the person speaking.

It looks like he's not alone after all. However he didn't recognize that woman and he didn't remember seeing her in Beika City Hall either.

Carefully he tries to observe her.

The woman, who actually looks like a 17 year old girl, pats the walls and floors murmuring something to herself. Her appearance is slender, quite average in height, black wavy hair and fair skin. However he feels that there is something more about this girl, and he wants to investigate it.

"Huh?...hey, you over there."

"Crap…she saw me" Conan was able to get back to his senses

He forgot that he's currently on a war, and everyone around here is enemies ready to kill. He tried to keep calm, but he can't help but be nervous, he might get killed right now after all. No matter how pretty the girl looks like, she's dangerous. But he noticed something, this girl doesn't show any hostility and she softens her look.

"Yeah, you…" She come closer towards Conan's direction and tried to look at him.

"Hmm…to think they'll install an NPC in a form of a child, well I haven't checked the NPCs yet, I know a simple way, don't you move."

"Wait…NPC?" Conan muttered.

She kneeled in front of Conan and touched his cheek, "Imagine that, you're warm, though you shouldn't be."

Conan blushed a bit and stepped back. "Huh? That's weird seeing a red cheek blush like that…" the girl muttered. "Interesting. You look and feel real. Maybe more real than most people."

Suddenly, Conan noticed that she's only 3 centimetre away from his face."Wha-what's the deal with this woman?!" he thought. He can also feel Saber tensed; even though she's invisible he can sense her presence.

His thought were cut off when suddenly the girl scowling at someone looking embarrassed

"…Hey! What are you laughing at? It's our advantage to look into everything even NPCs…"

"Seriously, who on earth is she talking too…oh" Conan thought then realise that it must be her servant who is currently invisible just like Saber. "So she's a master afterall…"

"Huh? He's a master too? No…a master should be more…" The girl, looking embarrassed starts murmuring something "w-wait, that means what I felt up-"she keeps murmuring to herself that she' so embarrassing

"SHUT UP! I can make mistakes too! Don't call me a shotacon!" Really, Conan is just staring at her the whole time; he can't tell whether to feel nervous or laugh at the situation but for some reason, he feel more relaxed now. He can't see the servant but he imagines that it's currently laughing right now.

"It's your fault you're too bland to be anything but an NPC." Suddenly the flustered girl is now glaring at him. "I-umm…" Conan tried to talk but he can't think of anything to say, really. He's like facing a combination of his mother and Haibara and it gives him chills.

"There's nothing but blank look on your face, were the preliminaries too boring for you? As a child you should display some excitement you know? Take a look at Shinji."

Heh, now she's scolding him, what a way to talk to a little kid. But he noticed something, she muttered a name, "Shinji" and she's comparing him to that person, maybe he's also a 7 year old child that get lost in this place.

"Geez…that's enough, as a fellow master I should not treat you in a kind way, no matter your age, you're also a participant in this Grail war. But since I like children especially cute little boys, I guess I should show a little kindness."

She quickly went from flustered to serious in seconds. But her last statement shows that at least she's a kind person after all.

"Well in any case you don't look like you're cut off for fighting" The girl muttered and walks away, and before she open the door she look at Conan's direction, "I forgot to introduced myself, my name is Tohsaka Rin, I hope to see you soon but I believe you won't reach that far if you keep that blank look in your face."

The girl, named Tohsaka Rin left the rooftop and Conan was left alone.

"It's alright Praetor, no matter what happens, I assure to you that with my blade, victory will be ours, you need not to worry." Saber taps Conan's shoulders while he's staring at the exit door.

A lot of things happened that day, yet Conan can't shake up the feeling on why he's here, and where Ran and the others are. He needs to focus or else he'll die.

Kill or be killed.

Those words keep on haunting him, no matter what he do, he had no choice but to survive this war and by doing that, he need to kill. That feeling hurt him. If only there's an alternative.

If only…

A/N: Tohsaka Rin finally arrived, for those who are confused. This Tohsaka Rin and the Tohsaka Rin in Fate/Stay Night are different individuals. So no, she's not related to Sakura Matou at all.
