I know it's been a long time, I'm so sorry to all of you, I haven't been fair to you all. I actually wrote this chapter a few weeks ago. I know that's a long time, but I was stuck, I didn't know what to write until today. I hope you guys enjoy though. And I'm sorry to say that it's not a happy chapter.
~ H. "A".
Emma
The next day, when Henry and Killian left the house, there was nothing but packing to do. My suitcase is already packed with my things and some of the gifts that I could bring for the baby, the rest of them I would have to send it to Storybroke through mail. Today must go well as planned. I have to stay strong. I had the greatest time of my life with Killian and Jefferson, but like all happiness, there always has to be an end to it. By tomorrow, I would be out of New York, and hopefully, in time, I will be forgotten.
When it was about three thirty, the boys arrived home. Henry had to drop his things and get ready to get picked up by Emily's mom. As for Killian, he only had a few minutes to stay; he had to go back to work.
I was on the couch still in my nightgown, covered in the blanket Ruby gave me. Killian sat beside me and took my hand.
"How are you feeling?"
"Okay. No headache today."
"That's good."
"Killian, since Henry is not going to be here, how about you come home a little early tonight so the two of us could have dinner together in the house?"
"Dinner? With just the two of us? I like the sound of that. Alright."
"I'll do the cooking. You're job is to just come home on time. Say about eight."
"I'll try. Should I buy flowers for the occasion?"
I smiled and shook my head. "No there's no need to do that. I'll cook something special for you."
"Sounds like a plan."
He gave me a light kiss on the lips and on my hand. "I have to go."
"I know. I'll see you again later tonight then."
"Can't wait. Goodbye, love."
"Goodbye."
He released my hand and stood back up on his feet. He waved goodbye to Henry before heading out the door.
I'm sorry, Killian. But at least, we'll have one more special moment that we haven't shared together alone for a long time. I promise I'll raise the kids well...Just please keep Henry happy while I'm gone.
~ A car pulled over outside. It's Emily's mother. Henry, who was dressed in an adorable suit, ran downstairs and reached his hand to the door. I caught his arm and pulled him back.
"Wait a minute, kiddo. You forgot to kiss me goodbye."
"Sorry, mom." He kissed my cheek impatiently and secured his jacket properly.
I opened the door for him, but before he ran off, I had the chance to have a quick talk with him.
"Alright I'm only allowing you to stay there till nine. Now I want you to have fun, but leave the door open once you go in her room. Do you understand, young man?"
"Yes, mom. I got it. Now can I go?"
"Ah, not so fast. Also remember that Ruby is going to pick you up. Got it?"
"Okay. Okay. I got it. Now can I go?"
"And one more thing, don't you think you're a little overdressed, Henry?"
"Emily's father is a lawyer, and her relatives are coming over to meet me tonight. It turns out all her uncles on her dad's side are all lawyers and her mom is a judge. When I was upstairs, I didn't know what to wear for a judge or a lawyer, so all I could think of was this. Why? Do you think it's too much?"
"No, son, you look adorable. But remember, this isn't a test, it's just a perfectly normal meeting with family. If you remember to be respectful then you'll be just fine. Okay?"
"Okay."
"Now run along and have fun."
"Bye, mom."
He turned around and ran to the car. Once he got inside, he reached his arm out from the open window and waved me goodbye. I waved at him back until the car disappeared.
"Goodbye, sweetie...I'm sorry your pathetic mother has to do this. I'm so sorry my dearest son."
~ In the kitchen, I busied myself with all the cooking, making the food that I can manage to make. So far my history in the kitchen was making mac'n cheese, ramen, horrible spaghetti and heating up take out foods. Tonight, I'm sort of cheating to make a fancy dinner, the meaning that I'm cheating means the internet.
While I laid out the frozen steak in an empty bowl for them to melt, I stood by the kitchen counter, cutting vegetables for the salad and the mashed potatoes. I first sliced different kinds of variety of vegetables and added them in a large salad bowl with a small portion of ceasar salad dressing. Then I moved on to the easy job, peeling the potatoes. While I peeled each one of them with my knife the phone rang. I placed my knife down and reached for the phone.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey, Emma, it's me Ruby."
"Hey, what's up?"
"I'm sorry to tell you this, Emma, but it turns out I can't pick up Henry after work."
"What? Are you serious?"
"Yeah, but don't worry. I asked Marjorie a few minutes ago and she said you would love to do it herself."
"Oh that's good. Did you tell her the address?"
"I will."
"Okay then. Thanks for telling me. Goodbye."
"Bye."
I hung up the phone and returned to my focus on my half naked potato. Once I finished peeling all of them, I sliced each of them into separate cubes and gathered them onto the side of the cutting board. While a pot of water boiled away on the stove for the potatoes, I checked on my frozen steak, they were melted enough to be cooked. I removed the pan out of the oven and placed it down on the stove. Adding a bit of olive oil on the surface of the pan, I picked up two steaks and the oil sizzled away. I checked the time before preparing the ingredients for dessert. It's six fifteen. I still have some time.
I dashed some seasoning on the meat before going back to the fridge. But the phone suddenly rang again, I closed the door of the refrigerator and went over to the phone to answer it.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Is this Emma Swan?"
"Yes, this is she. Who is this?"
"Emma, it's me. Bae. Are you alone?"
"Yes, I am."
"Alright, I got everything ready. The only problem is that I got the tickets that leave until eight fifteen. I'm sorry but there was a bit of a situation in the airport and the tickets at that hour are the only ones available so I had to take it."
"Eight fifteen? Oh no. You have to be joking."
"I'm sorry."
"...That's okay. Um..it'll do. We'll just stick with the plan."
"How are you doing?"
"I'm doing well actually. No morning sickness today."
"When are you going to have the baby?"
"In two months now."
"Right...Emma. Be honest with me. You sure you're positive that you can walk away right now and never turn back?"
"I have to, Bae. I have no place here."
"But what about Henry? He knows everything, right?"
"No. I haven't told him actually. I..Well, I decided to leave him here for the next two months. I'll return once the baby comes out."
"Wait. What?!"
"Once the hour strike to eight, I'm going to call Killian and make up a dramatic story that I just received an unexpected mail with a plane ticket inside, saying that my grandmother is in her deathbed and I'm wanted in her presence. That'll buy me some time since my grandmother already passed away many years ago."
"Then what about Henry?"
"Henry is going to continue staying here. I will come back for him in one month and take him to Storybroke with me. That's the way it has to be. It'll break his heart. But I don't want Killian taking care of my messes anymore. I don't want that at all."
"Emma, this is maddening."
"I want our son to enjoy his life for a little longer."
"What about your condition? There is no way your pregnant body will be able to go through plane rides."
"Then I'll ask for someone in the end of the month...It just has to be this way, Bae."
"...You mean I could never see you again?"
"Of course, not. You can come to Storybroke any time you like. I'll be there for you. Just for now, I need you to give me the ticket and take me to the airport. I'll be ready with my stuff."
"Have you said your goodbyes?"
"Yes...I have to go, Bae. Goodbye."
"Goodbye. I'll see you back in the Shells."
"Okay."
I hung up the phone.
Looks like dinner would have to hold for tonight. I still continued to cook and by the time I was finished cleaning the mess I made, I arranged the food all in one big plate and placed it down on the table. I covered it with a foil and placed a note on top of it written as:
I'm sorry I had to cancel our little date. I hope you enjoy the food though. I know it's cold but it's still good. I'll call you when I get out of the plane. I love you.
~ E.
The time now is seven twenty. I have some time left. The very last person I haven't gotten a chance to say goodbye to is Jefferson. After all this time, he deserves to receive a proper farewell. He's my supporter, and the best friend that any person could ever ask for.
I reached for the phone and dialed the number to his home. The phone rang three times until someone finally answered it.
"Hello?" Jefferson answered.
"Hey, it's me Emma."
"Emma? Oh wow, hey."
"Yeah, I know it's been awhile. But I was wondering if we can meet up somewhere so we can talk."
"Talk? Okay. Where do you want to meet?"
"At the Shells. It's a small diner downtown. Can we meet there?"
"Alright."
"Great. Um..Uh is Grace with you?"
"Yes, she is."
"Bring her too. I haven't seen that girl for a long time."
"You want me to bring her?"
"Yes. Bring her, Jefferson, please."
"Emma, what's going on? It's been months since I last saw you. I'm confused why all of a sudden you call me out of the blue and now want to see me and my daughter together."
"Because there's something I have to tell you. Just come. I'll tell you everything once you get to the Shells. Okay?"
"...Alright."
"Goodbye."
"Goodbye, Emma."
Ruby wasn't at the diner when I got there. It turns out she got a job interview for some kind of fashion department store. As for Marjorie, she was still on her night shift. I waited patiently in an empty booth, drinking a glass of water Marjorie gave me earlier.
It feels strange to be back here again. Since the beginning of my history in this old dump, I never once came here as a customer, this place was always just work. But now months later, I'm back here at this very place as a customer, no longer a waitress; it feels really weird but sort of good to know that I'm free from this miserable working career.
It wasn't long until Jefferson and his adorable daughter arrived. Grace was happy to see me. She chose to sit beside me and was quickly taken back by my massive big belly. As for Jefferson, other than me being pregnant, he was more surprised of the fact that he was actually going to spend some time with me for the first time..well, in a long time.
Marjorie came to our table. She was a bit upset of seeing Jefferson and his kid sitting in the table with me. But even though she was curious of this odd meeting, she shook away her suspicion and carried on with her work. She passed the menu for each of us except for little Grace.
I didn't even read the menu – I know it like a book, after all. I closed it and handed the menu back to her. "I'll just have a hot fudge sundae without the cherry and the bananas. Oh. And also with extra chocolate syrup and nuts."
Marjorie scribbled down my order on her notepad. And turned to Jefferson to hear of what he wanted.
"I'll just have coffee. And how about you, sweetheart?"
"I want the same as, Emma."
"Alright. Make that two hot fudge sundaes, Marjorie."
"Okay. If that's all, I'll be back later with your orders."
She took the menu from us. She placed the notepad back into the front pocket of her apron, and also took out a children coloring paper and a small box of crayons. She placed it front of Grace so she can distract herself for awhile. I thanked her before she walked away to the next table that were in need of her service.
While Grace was busying herself with her coloring, Jefferson and I are now able to talk to one another freely.
"So, how are you feeling?"
"Alright."
"...What's the gender of the baby?"
"It's a boy."
"A boy? That's wonderful."
I can see the sadness crossed on his face. Oh how much I regret that night we hooked up. Jefferson makes me smile and always sided with me no matter what. But now, I ended up offering something for him that both of doesn't want, a damn baby..babies...Oh God, how am I going to tell him that there's another passenger in my stomach?
"Yeah. Killian thought we could name him Ethan. I added the name Xavier for his middle name."
"That's nice...That's really nice."
"I know it is. I'm sorry I haven't contacted you for so long."
"No, I understand completely. I'm just..I'm just glad that the baby is alive and healthy. I was afraid I would be seeing a flat belly before I got here."
"Well, I changed my mind about the whole..the whole baby losing thing."
"So why did you call me to come here?"
"Because I wanted to see you, I've been unfair of leaving you out of my life, even though I knew fully well you're important and someone who is part of this..this new life inside me."
"Emma."
"And also I wasn't kidding that I missed little Grace here."
"Emma..."
I wrapped an arm around Grace's shoulder. The little girl lifted her head to look at my face and brightened with a smile.
"Do you remember the time when we had that dinner back in that fabulous restaurant?"
"...Yes."
"Remember when I said that I wanted to see your daughter?"
"Yes."
"Well, I'm glad to finally see her - except for that fact we did meet face to face before. Do you remember that, little one, that night when you caught me leaving the apartment?"
Grace clapped her hands together and eagerly nodded her head. With an excited thrill she said.
"Oh yeah! I so remember that, you were wearing that black ball gown."
"That's right, Grace. Did you also know your father was the one who designed that himself?"
"Oh I know. Daddy, was working on it for so long. He always locked himself in his room and I keep hearing this ripping noise. I never thought he would finish it though. And the sad thing is he never let me see how it looked like. He told me that the dress was only meant to be shown to the person who he wanted to give. I never thought that person was you, Emma."
"Well, I'm glad you got to see it."
Marjorie came back to our table with our order. Once she finished placing the bowls of hot fudge sundaes and Jefferson's coffee, she walked away to the other tables.
A good fifteen minutes passed. Huh. I wish I planned things through my thoroughly, this is by far the most awkward date I ever been in. And the sad thing is that my date is the one person who I really respect, and my first love..Well, maybe first love is a little too much – perhaps more of a "first target". Huh. There's no nice way to put it to whatever I can call to my little Savior, and its even worse of what I have to do in the next five minutes I have left.
I swirled my silver spoon in the melted pool of my ice cream. Grace is half way finished, pausing a few times to take a bite while she continued with her coloring. As for Jefferson, he kept his stern focus on the table, sipping his coffee in complete silence. For the whole time, he talked only when Grace made a mess with her ice cream, but now that she's close to finishing it, he kept his mouth sealed and changed his focus at something else.
With my freezing cold hands, I slipped my them under the table, rubbing my hands against my belly. A little foot start to kick me hard. Ow! Another one. Ouch!
Stop it now, baby. Please, mommy is having a very hard time right now..Shhh...Hush little baby, don't say a word. Mommy is going to buy you a plane ticket. If that plane ticket is sold out, Mommy will still get you out of here. If New York is too cod for you, Mommy will take you far away somewhere warm...
"Jefferson."
He slightly jumped as if a lightening bolt hit him. His head slowly raised a little higher for me to look at his face better. With Grace still distracted with her coloring, I took this chance as a distraction. I slipped my hands back on the table, and smoothed against the cold surface of the table until I could feel his warm hands with my cold ones. He gasped as my fingers closed with his firmly.
"Emma..Grace is here, remember that."
"There's nothing wrong with two friends holding each other's hands."
"Friends. Right?"
Just hearing that one hear hurt him. Oh God, damn my mouth. Of course, Jefferson will never release the fact that he did had the chance to have me for himself if..if it wasn't for Killian. But I guess, love is more complicated than what's others thinks. Even though I have the house, two twins inside me – I think they're twins, and a "mark" that only Killian has the right to seal, I'm still not sure of how my heart feels for him or this poor man in front of me. Sure, I did almost everything with Killian that not many couples do when they're in a relationship – Jesus, me and Killian took things way to far and way way too fast, if I may add. Yet, I don't know if that's considered a done deal as in..as in marriage or something serious. Clearly Killian only bought the house for us, his way of saying that he's willing to take the serious step. But..But I'm not good enough for him, I mean, anything I touch I destroy. I..I love Killian. He earned his way to receive my love with his effort and his heart, I never learned to accept love ever since my Bae left me..
Babies. These babies are going to destroy these two men in practically one blow. One child belonging to Killian, and the other to Jefferson. That's is absolutely crazy, yet extremely scary to have these two innocent babies being trapped in the wrong body, a woman who is too chicken enough to confront the two men of the truth...I've already ruined their friendship. Continuing to live right before their eyes will tear their lives completely apart. I don't l know how Solomon did it with all his wives and children. But there is no way I'm going to have three dads confuse my children..Yes, that's right. Henry, and his two new siblings are mine, my responsibility. They are not trash, or a mistake. They are mine, and mine only who I will raise all on my own. Killian and Jefferson, they played their parts of giving me the best experiences I never felt or went through in my life. It is time to say goodbye. Killian, now at work, with all my love, my captain, goodbye, and hopefully my appearance at that Black and White Ball will forever remain a mystery. As for you Jefferson, you're next.
"Jefferson, I have to go."
"Of course, Killian probably might call you soon."
"That's not exactly my reason..But..But Jefferson, although I cannot tell you why I have to leave, please remember this, I wish you the greatest life for you and your daughter. Someday Jefferson, someday you will find a much wonderful woman in your life. I'm nothing but a mistake who just happened to have encountered you in that one party. You remember that, don't you?"
Just as I feared, he looks now serious and concerned. I squeezed his hand tighter and gave each of them a kiss. I can feel my eyes water and wanting for tears to fall. To hide them, I turned my head to the side.
Suck it in, Emma. You can do it. This is it. Finish it like a good brave girl. Come on, you can do it.
I took a breath, still keeping my head turned away from Jefferson's. When I lifted my head a little to wipe my eyes with my sleeve, I caught a familiar face across the glass window. It's Bae standing with his cane by a cab.
"Emma."
I turned my head to look at Jefferson. "Goodbye, Jefferson..Goodbye and..and thank you, thank you so much."
Grace finally invaded our goodbye conversation. She placed her crayon down, not caring that it's rolling across the table and down to the floor.
"Oooo..You two are holding hands."
I weakly released Jefferson's hands, and turned my now teary eyes to Grace. I took her little shoulders with both hands and gave her three kisses on one of her cheeks. She giggled, clearly not catching the tears rolling down my cheeks. Before Jefferson can say anything else, I used all my might to get out of that booth. I rushed to the doorway and speed walked to Bae. By the time Bae and I got inside, I heard the bell of the door jingle.
As the driver started the engine and drove, I trund around to take a last glimpse of my Savior. Jefferson ran toward the car for a few short seconds then gave up once the driver drove a lot faster. Even though he cannot see me, I looked across the window with one of my hands shakily waving goodbye.
REWINE...
I deeply wish this was the moment that happened between the departure of Emma and the second lover in her life. But I'm afraid that this never happened. An unfortunate twist instead occurred just right after she stepped out of that diner. Please continue to the next chapter, for there is one character that ruins her whole plan.
