To be continued. This starts while Emma is still in the diner talking to Jefferson.
Grumpy
Marjorie went to one table after the other, clearing tables and slipping her tips in the pocket of her apron. Oh how much she has grown to take care of herself. Why..Why did that bastard take her away from me? Just why? I never had the chance to be there for my little girl, or even pay for her tuitions for college. He took everything from me! Everything! First, he ruined my marriage and then next took my daughter. Never in my life have I ever wanted so badly for that Gaston to be her husband again. He's a hell lot better than that old nasty motherfucker.
Marjorie turned around with the heavy tray filled with dirty plates on her hand. I quickly turned around, dropping my shoulders together with my head bow low, sipping my hot mug of coffee in silence. She walked away back into the kitchen.
I turned my head to the door of the kitchen. I can see her face through the circular window, looking exhausted but..but happy. I slipped my hand in my breast pocket, and took out a picture. Now all crumbed and slightly wrinkled, I smoothed it out with the palm of my hand to take a better look of it.
"Baelfire. So that's your name? Gold, you may be smart bastard. But I know every hour when you leave that shop, I snuck in on time this morning...You stole my daughter, my only family. This time, I take yours. I don't care anymore of what will happen to me, or what my daughter will think of me now – she already sees me as a stranger, a man she does not want in her life. I hope you prepare yourself to feel the miserable pain I endured for all these years. Just so be it, Gold. So be it."
~ I looked over my shoulder while Marjorie remained in the kitchen. There isn't much to look at but..but wait, isn't that the blonde gold digger sitting in that booth? Hmgh. Now she's with another man? Oh God how far can that tramp go? First it's one rich guy now she has another one while she's with child. Huh. She's definitely not the perfect role model for Marjorie. Oh how I wish they stop being friends. The very fact that Marjorie is sleeping with a man who's almost the same age as me is beyond more worse than knowing that she's hanging out with a pregnant woman who has two rich bachelors under her power.
Before I turned my stool around, someone caught my attention, someone gravely familiar. I looked ahead through the glass window in the front of the room. There is a man standing there, clearly blind from the looks of the cane he holds on his right hand.
Yes! That's him! That has to be him! I looked down at the wrinkled picture, and then back at the man. I'm right. That man is Baelfire. Oh I never thought I'll find him this easily.
I stuffed the picture in my pocket, slamming a few dollars on the table to pay for my coffee and – with my beanie low to my temple to hide the looks of my face– marched to the doorway. The man is standing by a yellow cab, waiting for someone.
I walked up to him, with my hand hidden in my breast pocket, my fingers on the trigger of the gun hidden inside.
"Hey there, kid. Do you have a second?"
The blind kid turned around to where I'm standing, not looking at me with his grey pale eyes.
"Grumpy? Grumpy is that you?"
So you remember me after all? Of course, how could either of us forget one another, our lives back in my apartment was a living hell for the two of us.
"That's right. You remember me, Bae?"
"Of course, I do. I can never forget the sound of your voice..Um. How are you?"
"Fine. But I don't think I should be asking you the same question. What in God's name happened to you?"
"Back luck, I suppose..It's sort of a long story how I ended up like this."
"Oh...Well, who are you waiting for out here? You know that cab driver in there is charging you the longer you wait out here."
"I know. I'm waiting for my friend."
"Huh. Bae, don't tell me you're waiting for that blonde tramp in there. Didn't she tell you she got knocked up by some rich guy? She's actually talking to another man in there right this moment. Oh boy, I wish that man was blind like you, kid, that way he can have an easy excuse to be in a little warm date with that bitch, along with his kid who's sitting right next to her. Can you believe it? No offense, kid, I respect your decision if you think you can handle it. But your Emma is showing her true colors a lot, man. So a word of advice if you have second thoughts about getting back with her, just run. Run for the hills."
"I think you're misunderstanding this situation, Grumpy. I have no intention to get back with her. I'm a man with pride, I'm not going to carry any hope that it's possible to bring back the past again."
"Right. Well..Well, it was nice talking to you, kid. I..I gotta go. Good luck to you."
"Of course, goodbye, Grumpy."
"Goodbye, kiddo..Goodbye."
I'm not a man who believes there is some kind of invisible mighty spirit up there in those clouds. But if there is, I hope he makes two spare rooms for us, Bae.
I pulled out the gun out of my breast pocket, and pointed it straight at him. Immediately people reacted hysterically once they saw the sight of my gun. The cab driver drove away quickly, and the people in the streets screamed and walked across the other way.
I can see some people dialing 9-1-1. I must finish this matter fast, dead fast before cops come here to stop me.
Bae can sense something wrong. Once he heard some people shout at him that there's a gun, he remained frozen of where he's standing.
"Grumpy, what are you doing?"
"What do you think I'm doing, kid? I'm here to kill you, finish you off once and for all."
"But why? I mean, I know I was a crappy tenant, but just because of the horrible times we had in the past, you think my punishment should be death?"
"I forgot about all those years when you use to live back in my apartment."
"Then what is your reason to kill me?"
"Don't play innocent with me, kid...Then again, your old man must have taught you that."
"What are you talking about?"
I can feel the anger rushing in my veins. I tightened my grip on the gun, keeping my focus only on Bae.
"Your old man took my daughter. My little girl, damn it! She's only fucking twenty- four. Twenty- four!...How can I accept the fact your old man poisoned my girl's brain that there is only such thing as a happily ever after if they were together."
"My father..My father is in a relationship with your daughter? Since when?"
"Ha! I guess you didn't know then. Boy, kid, you've been gone for far too long. You missed a hell a lot of juicy details here. First your little girlfriend is pregnant with her two rich boyfriends still chasing after her, and now your daddy is sleeping with my daughter. How about that, huh? How does that feel?"
"Grumpy..I...I don't know what to say."
"Save your words, Gold. I'm going to finish you off right this very moment and there is nothing you can say or do to stop me."
"Grumpy, listen. If you shoot me, you'll end up in jail, a life time in prison. Can you imagine your life under bars? How do you think your daughter will think of you till then?"
"Who said you're going to die alone? I'm going to follow you once I blow you dry with this gun...I'm not going to risk facing my daughter again after I'm finish with you. No. I'm going to end my life once I finish killing the one person your old man loves, you. Just you, kid. And you only."
The jingling of a belle started and then the sound of a door closing shut.
"Don't you dare pull that trigger, Grumpy!" A voice started.
Oh I know that voice from anywhere. Oh why in God's name does it have to be her, though?
Emma quickly went over to where Bae is before her rich boyfriend was able to stop her. She stood right behind Bae, spreading her arms out to protect him.
"Move out of the way, Swan."
"Hell no. You're not going to shoot him while I'm standing here."
"I said get out of the way!"
"Over my dead body..."
Bae placed his free hand on her shoulder. I can see how he's trying to push her away, but she stood her ground.
"Emma, are you crazy? Go back inside right now." Bae begged.
Emma, her eyes looking straight at me, shook her head.
"No. No I'm not leaving. Bae I know I never allowed myself to stop you when you left our apartment room. But that girl is long gone, I'm going to act now, and forever stand here to protect you. I'm not going to let you die, Bae. Never."
"I said move, Swan. Or I swear I'll pull the trigger." I warned.
"Let's see how that will look on your criminal record, Grumpy. There will be a great news story tomorrow. I can just imagine what the press will use for the heading on the first page for tomorrow's newspaper. Sick Psychopath Shot an Innocent Helpless Blind Man and A Pregnant Woman. How does that sound? Pretty long, isn't it? Well, you know what they say, the longer the title is based on a criminals' story, the longer that criminal stays in prison to rot."
"Don't play smart with me, Swan. I planned this for a long time than you think. I'm not going to allow myself to live once this is all over. I'm going to follow the same path once your boyfriend behind you is dead. And I won't hesitate to bring you along with me."
"Emma come back inside!" A man from behind yelled.
I'm guessing he's her little boyfriend.
"Shut up, whoever you are! One more word out of you than I'll shoot."
The sound of police sirens are coming near. I must shoot now, it's either now or never.
"If you won't move, then so be it..All I can say now is so long. I'll see you two again in the other side..As for you Emma, I think I might be doing your two boyfriends a favor of finishing you off. That baby in your womb will only confuse the two of them."
Emma quickly placed her hands on Bae's waist, holding him in place as hard as she can so he won't be able to turn her around. He released his cane and tried to turn her body behind him. But she grabbed hold of him hard and even wrapped one of her ankles around his.
I pulled the trigger. A bullet flied straight at them. Boom!
Emma pushed herself to keep standing. Her hands still on Bae's waist.
One bullet isn't enough. Another one will do the trick. With my fingertips ready on the trigger, I pointed straight at her to make a nice clean shot.
"Let me go, daddy!" A little girl's voice started.
"No, stay here, darling! Stay!" That same boyfriend shouted again.
I ignored them. I pulled the trigger another bullet flied straight across at Emma. Instead, before the bullet ever got to Emma, the sound of the jingling belle from the diner's door started again, and a girl ran straight ahead to where Emma is standing. She threw her arms at her, but in less than a second, that girl fell straight on the ground.
Emma gasped and fell right on her knees, trying to lift the girl up with the little strength she has left.
"Grace. No, no, no. No! This isn't happening!"
This is it. Now is the time.
With Bae no longer protected, I pointed the gun at Bae, straight across his heart, and pulled the trigger twice. One he collapsed, I rotated the gun straight at me. The police now arrived, pulling over and almost every one of them getting out of their cars.
"So long New York..So long Marjorie. I love you, my little girl. I love you very much."
Boom!
