A/N: WOOHOO! The semester is finally over and I actually had time to sit down and write. UGH! I missed you guys. Percy took a few weird turns this chapter but I'm still happy with how it turned out. If you think I went way off course please just send me a message and let me know. I really do appreciate it. Anyways... I still do not own Teen Wolf (unless we are counting the dvd's that I bought so I could watch it whenever) but I do own Percy. Well here you go! Enjoy guys!
"What do you mean they're gone? Where did they go?" I push past him into the room and look around. "Stiles where are they?"
"I don't know." He shakes his head and I advance on him.
"Call Scott." I wave my hands as if that will make him move faster. "Call him. If the Alpha has Derek then the next person he is going to go after is Scott. Call him." Stiles' eyes widen in horror as he realizes I'm right and pulls out his phone before grabbing my hand and pulling me out to our cars.
"He isn't answering." Stiles shakes his head after trying to call Scott for the third time. I head over to my car and open the driver's side door.
"I'm going to the school to see if he's still there. The game would have ended not that long ago." Stiles nods coming over to my car and leans over the door.
"I'll be right behind you." He says shutting the door for me once I'm in and running over to his Jeep starting it and doing a quick turnaround to follow me. I pick my phone up off the passenger seat where I had thrown it earlier and try dialling Scott.
"Come on Scott. Answer your phone." I groan when the voicemail message rings through again and toss my phone back to the passenger seat applying a little more gas urging my car to go faster.
Pulling into the school parking lot I haphazardly park before jumping out of my car and racing to the boy's locker room. Pausing briefly in the door way I look to see if anyone is inside but see that all the lights are out. Turning around I look down the hallway trying to figure out where to go next when I hear groaning coming from inside the locker room.
"Scott?" I push past the lockers and head towards the sound in the shower area. Stopping just around the corner I take a deep breath before peeking around and see Scott lying on the floor writhing around like he's having a nightmare, only dressed in a towel. "Scott!" I slide across the floor and lightly tap his face trying to wake him up. All of a sudden he shoots up gasping and I sigh a breath of relief before rocking back to sit down.
"Percy?" He looks over at me concerned.
"Don't scare me like that." I whisper standing up and offering him my hand to help him up too.
"What happened? Where's Stiles?" Scott looks around once he's standing trying to locate his friend.
"He should be here in a moment." I lead Scott over to one of the benches in the main locker room area and help him sit down.
"Percy! Scott!" Stiles yells running down the hallway just outside the door.
"See… told you so." I give a weak smirk as Stiles collides with the doorframe on his way in, looking frantically around before his eyes land on the two of us. After looking me over quickly he turns to Scott.
"Dude, we have a huge problem." He leans on his knees breathing heavily from having run from the parking lot.
"Trust me…. I know." Scott looks up at me sadly and I place a hand on his shoulder comfortingly.
"I don't think you do. Derek is working with the Alpha." Stiles waves his hands around wildly trying to emphasize how screwed we were.
"I know. They were here." Scott rubs the back of his neck before pushing up off the bench.
"Did they say anything?" I whisper stepping out of his way as he heads over to his locker.
"Not really. But the Alpha stuck me with his claws and…. I don't know… I saw a fire…." Stiles steps forward so he can see Scott.
"The Hale house fire?" I ask leaning against a row of lockers nearby.
"Probably. The Alpha was there and his face was burned." Scott shakes his head like he was trying to remove an image from his mind. "I don't know it's all confusing."
"It's okay Scott. We will figure it out." I watch as Scott grabs a shirt out of his locker and turns to look at me. "I'll wait outside." I pat Stiles on the arm as I walk past and head out into the hallway running a hand through my hair. A few seconds later Stiles exits the locker room as well and walks up to me.
"You okay?" He nods at me as I pace the hallway. I just nod in response taking another short lap down the hall. "Now is probably not the best time but I just remembered…." He holds his hand out and stops me in my tracks and I quirk an eyebrow up at him. "The winter formal is in a few days, are you going with anyone?"
"Well, once my mom realizes that it's in a few days I'm probably not gonna have a choice on whether or not I'm going, but at the moment no I'm not going with anyone." I smile at him.
"You and I could….. I mean, only if you want to…..Well... I mean…. Do you want …?" I chuckle as Stiles stumbles over his question.
"Are you asking me to go to the dance with you Robin?" I laugh when Stiles just nods nervously. "Yeah, okay. That sounds good." I grin at him trying to contain just how excited I actually was, looking past him at where Scott had just exited the locker room. "So now what? Do we go after them?" I lean back against the wall crossing my arms while looking at Scott.
"No…" Scott shakes his head and rubs his eyes tiredly. "We wouldn't even know where to start."
"Derek's house would be the best bet." I muse quietly.
"Okay so maybe we do know where to start." Scott lets out a light laugh. "But we have done enough for the night."
"You're the boss." I shrug and push off the wall waiting for Scott to join us as we headed to the parking lot. "So….. How was Stiles' first game?" Stiles groans and I just grin at over at him pushing open the doors at the end of the hall.
"Well, we won." Scott says happily.
"That's awesome!" I see how both boys don't look enthusiastic. "Right?"
"Yeah…. It is." Stiles mumbles before turning to look at my parking job. "Who taught you to park?"
"I was in a hurry. Do not judge." I pull my keys out of my pocket and unlock the driver's side door. "You want a ride home Scott?" Scott nods his thanks at me and pops open the passenger door sliding into the seat. "See you later Stiles." I smile over my car at him before sitting into my seat and starting the car. I lift a hand in a wave as I pull out of the parking lot.
"He asked you to the dance." Scott says breaking the silence in the car.
"What?" I turn my head to look at him.
"Stiles…. He asked you to the dance." Scott chuckles at the look on my face.
I squint my eyes at him before answering. "We've talked about this whole eavesdropping thing….. But yeah he did." Scott just grins over at me and I laugh as a blush spreads up my neck. "Shut up." Pulling up in front of Scott's house he pauses right before he gets out.
"Jackson wants me to get the Alpha to bite him by the dance." He sighs and I turn in my seat to look at him fully.
"You can't…." I shake my head and Scott's eyes hold a new level of sadness.
"I know. And that means that he is going to take Allison to the dance." I frown as he says this and then I put a hand on his arm so that he looks up at me.
"Listen… You and Allison are going to get back together. Even if that means I have to beat everyone else back with a lacrosse stick." Scott chuckles lightly and I continue. "You two belong together. I honestly believe that. So you are going to fix it, and I'll help as much as I can." I lean forward and give him a quick one armed hug.
"Thanks Percy." Scott pulls back from the hug and gets out of the car closing the door quietly behind him. I pull away from the curb and drive slowly home.
Opening up the front door to my house I toss my bag of to the side and head for the kitchen. My mom raises her head from staring at her cup of tea when I walk in.
"Hi Mom." I walk over to her and kiss her cheek before opening the fridge and pulling out a bottle of water.
"You look happy sweetie. What happened?" She smiles and I take a seat next to her.
"I got asked to the winter formal." My mom's hands drop from her cup and her smile grows wider.
"OH! That is great! You need a dress. When is it?" My mom jumps lightly in her seat making me laugh.
"It's in 3 days." Her face drops and she squints at me.
"That's not a lot of time." She says watching me.
"I know. I'll ask Allison to go shopping with me, I just thought you would like to know." I twist the cap back on my water and pass my mom. "I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning."
"Night sweetie." I take the stairs two at a time while removing my jacket. Tossing my jacket over my computer chair I set out changing into my pajamas and falling into my bed for a night of restful sleep.
The morning starts with my phone going off across and me groaning while throwing a pillow in its general direction. Rolling out of bed I stumble over and hit the answer button. "Why…..?"
"Hey." I look over at my alarm clock to see what time it is as Allison chirps on the other end of the line. "What are you doing today?"
"Ummm…. I don't have…." I yawn audibly before continuing. "I don't have any plans why?"
"Lydia and I are going shopping for our formal dresses. Really would like to get your opinion too." I grab some clothes out of my closet and juggle the phone around so I can change.
"Yeah. I need to grab a dress too." Sitting on my bed I pull my combat boots closer lacing them up as Allison squeals.
"Did Stiles ask you?" I laugh tiredly at the fact that she automatically knew.
"Last night." I head out of my room pulling the door shut behind me.
"Why don't you sound more excited?" Allison's happiness falls out of her voice.
"Because it's barely even 8 in the morning, my brain hasn't fully processed that I'm awake." I skip down the stairs to the kitchen where I run into my dad. "Hi…."
"You are up early." He raises an eyebrow at me as I head over to the cupboard for a cup. I just raise my phone in explanation and pour some coffee.
"But you are excited right?" Allison's voice drifts through the phone as I bring it back to my ear.
"Of course. Just a little worried…. I mean what if he only meant as friends?" My dad looks up from the newspaper as my mom enters the kitchen.
"No way! Look we will find you an awesome dress and you will knock him dead." Allison practically shrieks into the phone and I wince.
"Alright. Okay. I believe you." I chuckle and put my empty cup into the sink.
"Come to my place and then we will go pick up Lydia alright?" Allison's voice goes back to having excited undertones to it.
"Okay, I'll see you in a bit." I hang up and turn to my parents. "I'm going out with Allison to get our dresses." I walk past them hugging my mom quickly and kissing my dad's cheek.
"Wait! Here." My mom follows me holding out a card. "Use this to get it." I take the credit card from her and look at her sceptically.
"Are you sure? I still have money left over from when my car was down." I shake my head and try to hand it back.
"We are sure. Now go." My mom shoos me out the front door to my car which I slide into and drive to Allison's house.
Allison meets me out in front of her house with a huge grin. "Hey! You mind if we run a quick errand first?"
"Nope that's cool. Before or after we pick up Lydia?" I lock my car and skip over to her car sliding into the back.
"After. Her house is on the way." I nod and reach forward to turn on the radio. We argue over the radio station all the way to Lydia's house. Once Lydia is in the car Allison lets her know we are doing an errand first and drive off. A few minutes later she pulls over in the woods and hops out grabbing a bag from the trunk and struts off into the woods leaving Lydia and I to have to run to catch up.
We keep walking for a few hours in mostly silence with Lydia and I throwing very confused looks at one another. "Allison, when you said you needed to stop for an errand before we went shopping, a five-mile hike in the woods," Lydia looks over at me before continuing, "was not what either of us was expecting."
"Before I forget, I wanted to ask if you're okay with something Lydia." Allison throws over her shoulder as I stumble on yet another fallen branch. Seriously Percy, the amount of time you spend in the woods with the boys you think you'd be able to manage the walking thing a bit better. I sigh and right myself before jogging carefully to catch up with the two girls. "Jackson asked me to the winter formal."
"Did he?" Lydia slows down slightly.
"Yeah. Just as friends. But I just wanted to make sure you're okay with it first." I jerk my head up and look at her.
"Just in case you were looking for other opinions on this," I raise my hand, "I am not okay with it." Allison turns looking slightly amused before picking up the pace a little more. "Seriously? Is this my punishment?" I mutter trying to keep up.
"Sure. As long as it's just friends." Lydia shrugs nonchalantly her face speaking volumes on how not okay with it she is.
"Well, yeah, I mean…." Allison chuckles not missing a beat. "It's not like I would take him to the coach's office during lacrosse practice to make out with him or anything."
"Uh, about that….." Lydia stops and stammers. I stop next to Lydia panting. Lydia whips her head around to look at me and Allison stops a few yards away. Crouching down she pulls a few objects from her bag and starts screwing something onto the top of another piece. Lydia and I creep closer until we are standing behind her.
"Is that an arrow?" I point at the object in her hand and she nods.
"What does that do?" Lydia asks crossing her arms over her chest.
"We're about to find out." Allison smiles grabbing a bow from the bag and notching the arrow as she stands. Pulling the string back she takes a deep breath and release the arrow where it goes whistling before lodging into a tree with an explosion of sparks. We all jump and I laugh under my breath.
"That was awesome." I whisper as Allison lowers the bow still staring at the tree.
"What the hell was that?" Lydia asks ignoring my excitement.
"I don't know." Allison shakes her head before turning to us.
"Well, that was fun!" Lydia steps forward rubbing her hands together. "Any more lethal weapons you wanna try out?"
"Please say yes." I nod enthusiastically right as a twig snaps somewhere off to our right. All of our heads whip around to look in the direction of the sound. And another snap sounds just a little closer, Lydia shuffles a little closer to the two of us looking around worriedly. When another twig snaps even closer Allison passes the bow to Lydia.
"Hold this." She says and Lydia looks at it shaking her head.
"What? Why?" Lydia stares at the bow and holds it like it was a loaded gun.
"Because I thought I heard something." Allison answers pulling off the glove on her right hand.
"So what if you heard something?" Lydia looks at me and then back to Allison.
"So, I want to find out what that something is." Allison tosses the glove into her bag. "Don't worry. It's probably nothing." She looks at us before heading off in the direction of the noise.
"Well, what if that nothing is something and that something is something dangerous?" Lydia speaks really fast but Allison stops in her place her eyes fixed in the direction of the noise.
"Shoot it." She says simply before heading away again. Lydia whimpers and I place a hand on the bow.
"How about I take that?" I ask and she drops her hands letting the weight collect in my hand. "She obviously hasn't watched many horror movies, you don't go towards the sounds, you are supposed to run away from them." Lydia looks around nervously not responding. "Don't worry. They are more likely to go after her than us. She separated from the pack." At Lydia's horrified look I faltered. "Alright, bad idea." We stand in silence looking in the direction Allison had headed in. After a few minutes Allison reappears from behind one of the trees looking wistfully over her shoulder. "See nothing to worry about." I wave my hand at Allison trying to reassure Lydia before grabbing Allison's bag with my free hand and jogging over to her. "So was anything there?"
"Yeah. Scott." Allison answers with a shrug and takes the bow from my hand and the bag sliding the weapon back into the bag and zipping it shut.
"Scott? Out here?" I ask and Allison nods before heading back in the direction of the car, Lydia falling in step beside her. "Oh joy! More walking!" I fake enthusiasm and start following them, Allison giggling over her shoulder at me.
We arrive back at the car at close to 8 in the evening and Allison looks at me apologetically. "Can we do a raincheck on the shopping? I didn't think it would be this late." I shrug and settle into the backseat and Lydia nods. Allison drops Lydia off and then takes me to her house so I can grab my car. I climb out of the back and then wave as she drive back out of the driveway. Climbing into my car I pull out my phone and text Stiles before driving off in the direction of his house.
I climb out of my car in front of the Stilinski residence just as Stiles comes racing out of the door.
"Wow. Are you that excited to see me?" I joke as he runs past me to the Jeep. "Guess not." I shrug and turn to look at him just as Scott comes out of nowhere from behind me pushing me towards the Jeep and climbing into the back.
"Get in." He urges grabbing at my sleeve. I slide into the passenger seat and Stiles slams on the gas as soon as the door closes.
"Well, hello to you two as well." I look back at Scott who is hiding behind Stiles' seat.
"Sorry not a lot of time." Scott answers looking at me meekly.
"What's wrong?" I ask concerned.
"My mom's on a date with the Alpha." He answers before telling Stiles to make a turn.
"What?!" I yell making Stiles cover one of his ears looking over at me. "Sorry." I lower my voice.
"That's them." Scott points at a car just a little bit down the road from us parked on the side of the road.
"Do you have a plan?" I ask Stiles as he looks down at the speedometer.
"Yeah. But you aren't going to like it." He nods and slows the car down slightly.
"When do I ever." I mutter trying to figure out his idea. A few seconds later we crash into the car and I look over at Stiles incredulously. "That's your plan? Hit a parked car?" I shake my head and undo the seatbelt as Stiles hops out of the car. I follow suit as the two doors of the car in front of us pop open to reveal an annoyed Mrs. McCall and the Alpha.
"Oh, are you kidding me? Stiles!" Mrs. McCall looks at the damage yelling.
"Mrs. McCall?" Stiles asks innocently pushing his door closed.
"Yes!" She throws her hand up and waves away some of the smoke that had accumulated.
"Wow, this is…. This is just crazy." Stiles chuckles lightly tossing his hands around. "What a coincidence, huh?" Mrs. McCall laughs sarcastically before her eyes fall on me when I come around the hood of the car.
"Hi, Mrs. McCall." I lift a hand in hello.
"Hi." She answers me shortly before turning back to Stiles. "What the hell?"
"I don't know what happened. You guys just came out of nowhere." Stiles waves his hand at the car and I groan at his excuse.
"Came out of nowhere! We were parked on the side of the road, Stiles." Scott's mom crosses her arms in frustration.
"How crazy is that?" Stiles asks and I elbow him in the ribs glaring as the Alpha approaches us. "I mean, we should probably call the cops, you know, do like an accident report thing." Stiles pushes me behind him a little as a look of recognition flickers on the alphas face.
"I don't think that's necessary." I flinch at how calm and 'evil-like' the alpha's voice was.
"Are you okay?" Mrs. McCall asks me noticing my flinch.
"Huh? Oh yeah…. Just had a twinge in my neck from the sudden stop. I'll be fine." I nod weakly my eyes drifting back over to the older wolf.
"Are you sure?" Stiles looks at me worriedly and I smile briefly before turning back to Mrs. McCall. "I think I'm feeling a little whiplash."
"Whiplash? You hit us!" Mrs. McCall she screams waving her hands around in a very 'Stiles like' manner. "And how did you manage to hit a park car anyway?"
"I don't know….. I was distracted." Stiles reaches up and rubs the back of his neck his eyes skirting over to me.
"Distracted by what?" She screams getting angrier with everything Stiles says. Stiles just gives me a pointed look and Mrs. McCall just huffs out a breath to calm herself down. "Just…." She sighs before continuing. "Just be careful next time."
"Are you sure you guys don't want to do an accident report?" Stiles throws out. "There's something definitely wrong with my neck." He rubs the back of his neck again to try and add credit to his story.
"There's something wrong with your head." I mutter under my breath before turning to the adults again. "Are you both okay?"
"Yeah, but I don't think our date is going to survive this." She sighs once more and I look at her sadly.
"I'm really sorry about Stiles' crappy driving." I say earning a exclamation of indignation from the boy in question. "And really sorry about your date."
"It's alright." Mrs. McCall turns back to the alpha. "I'm sorry. I'm going to get them to give me a ride home, maybe we can reschedule?"
"Of course. A second chance at a perfect date." The alpha smiles at her creepily and she nods before heading over to the passenger side door. Stiles remains rooted to the spot staring him down and it takes me pushing him to get him to move again.
"Stiles. Don't do anything stupid." I whisper leading him to the driver's side of the car and clambering into the back. "Stiles!" He turns and looks at me before jumping into the driver's seat and tearing off to drop off Mrs. McCall.
"What were you two doing out here anyway?" Mrs. McCall turns in her seat to look at both of us.
"Well…. Uhh… we were…." Stiles drums his hands on the steering wheel nervously glancing in the rearview at me.
"I was getting antsy sitting at home." I put a calming hand on Stiles shoulder and he visibly relaxes. "I asked Stiles if he wanted to go for a drive around town."
"Uh huh." Scott's mom nods slowly before smiling knowingly, but doesn't prod further. We pull up in front of her house and she points at Stiles before getting out. "Drive carefully." Stiles nods in agreement and she slides out of the car heading up to her front door. Once she is out of sight Stiles turns and helps me climb into the passenger seat.
"Where's Scott?" I ask settling into the seat.
"I don't know…." He starts saying as his phone goes off. Pulling it out he answers as he pulls smoothly away from the curb. "Hello? Wait hold on. Slow down. Where are you?" He turns on the blinker and I reach over and pull the phone out of his hand and putting it to my ear.
"Scott?" I ask worriedly.
"Yep." I relax my shoulders hearing his voice.
"Where are you?" Stiles reaches over silently asking me for his phone back and I swat it away lightly before pointing at the road. 'Drive.'
"Bossy." He huffs out putting both hands on the wheel resignedly.
"I'm at the animal clinic. Can you come get me?" I hum my accent.
"The animal clinic?" Stiles nods and turns down a side road heading towards the clinic. "We will be there soon.
As soon as we pull into the parking lot I am out of the Jeep and bursting through the front door of the clinic. Stumbling through the door I look up at a startled Deaton whose face relaxes when he recognizes me.
"Hi." I smile shyly and straighten up as Stiles pushes through the door behind me. "Ummm…. Someone called for a taxi?" I offer up jokingly as Scott comes around from the back causing me to sigh in relief. "You okay Scotty?" Deaton smiles at all of us before patting Scott on the arm and heading to the back of the clinic. Scott nods at us and heads over and I take in the bloody bandage attached to his torso. "Oh my god. Scott you're bleeding." I rush forward and Scott laughs lightly.
"I'm fine. Deaton fixed me up." Scott stops me from colliding with him and turns me back towards the door.
"I thought he only fixed animals." I mutter trying to turn around again to check on him.
"Werewolf remember? Practically the same thing." Scott pushes me out the front door as Stiles chuckles leading the way to his Jeep.
"Yeah but does he know that?" I look up at Scott as we reach the passenger side.
"Yes. Now get in." Scott opens the passenger door for me and motions for me to climb in. I slide easily into the back still looking at Scott worriedly.
"Where are we going?" Stiles asks as Scott closes the door behind him.
"My place. I need to find my phone." Scott answers and Stiles pulls away from the clinic speeding to Scott's house.
Stiles is sitting on a computer chair at the foot of Scott's bed while I am perched cross legged right in front of him dialling Scott's cell phone while Scott frantically rummages through his room trying to find it.
"Call it again." Scott says to me slamming his nightstand drawer shut.
"It's not here." Stiles groans out as I hit redial on my phone. Scott bounces over the bed dislodging me from my seat and causes me to fall into Stiles who catches me quickly and looks at me asking me silently if I'm okay. After I nod he looks over at Scott and sighs, "So you lost your phone. Why don't you just get a new one?" Scott falls ungracefully to the floor with a grunt and I lean over the side to check on him as he slides under his bed searching some more.
"I can't afford a new one." Scott's muffled voice arises from under the bed.
"Why don't you take Deaton up on that raise he offered you?" I ask hanging over the side of the bed to look at Scott. Scott just turns and shoots me a look before pulling a pair of shoes from under the bed.
"And I can't do this alone. We have to find Derek." Scott pushes up from under the bed and hurries to the other side of the room as Stiles and I share a look at the mention of Derek.
"Well, A, you're not alone." Stiles voices and then gestures between the two of us. "You have us. And B, didn't you say Derek walked into gunfire? He sounds pretty dead." Scott slides into the bathroom door and I shake my head at him.
"We are talking about the guy who survived being stabbed through the chest by Alpha claws. He doesn't really seem that easy to kill." I point out to Stiles who nods thoughtfully.
"Argent's plan was to use him to get the Alpha. They're not gonna kill him." Scott answers staring into the bathroom.
"All right, so then just let them do what they're planning, you know?" Stiles says as clothes come flying at me from Scott's bathroom. I squeak in indignation as a pair of pants land on my head. "They use Derek to get Peter, problem solved." Stiles reaches out and pushes the pants off my head smiling slightly.
"Not if Peter's going after Allison to find Derek!" Scott yells exiting the bathroom jumping over me and the bed.
"Okay really. You need to calm down Scott." I cringe into the bed and turn to Scott.
"I can't protect her on my own." Scott answers moving everything on the desk in the corner of his room. "Which means we need to find Derek first. Just…." Scott's voice breaks slightly and I stand up looking sadly at Stiles. "Just help me!"
"Where do you need me to look?" I ask ducking as Scott throws a small basketball over his shoulder, I snicker as I hear Stiles huff out a breath when it collides with his head. Scott points over to his dresser silently and I head over moving items on top of it looking for the missing phone.
"You know, you probably lost it when you two were fighting." Stiles throws the basketball at me in revenge then turns back to Scott after I stick my tongue out at him. "You remember that, when he was trying to kill you? After you interrupted him trying to kill Jackson? Are you starting to see a pattern of violent behaviour here?"
"I don't know about a pattern. But I do see someone who isn't helping." I push Stiles and the computer chair slightly with my foot before turning back to the dresser and rummaging again.
"He wasn't going to kill anyone." Scott says lowly turning to look at his friend. "And I'm not letting him die."
"You know I'm all for the people not dying thing Scott." I let go of the clothes I had just pulled out of the dresser and turn to him. "But can't we make an exception in Derek's case? He still creeps me out."
"Could you at least think about letting him die?" Stiles whines waving his hands around dramatically. "For me?" Scott's head whips around and looks at his window. "What?" Stiles asks as I step away from the dresser.
"My mom just got home from work." Scott answers straightening up from where he was leaning on the desk. Scott sits on the edge of the desk quietly keeping his head tilted up towards the window to listen.
"Is she okay?" Stiles asks glancing up at me when Scott hangs his head. Scott just replies with a shake of his head. "What's she doing?"
"Crying." Scott answers and I place a hand on Stiles' arm and motion that I'm stepping out of the room, he nods and turns back to his friend. I grab a box of tissues on my way down the stairs and head outside to the car.
"Mrs. McCall?" I ask timidly approaching the driver's side door. I see her jump slightly and then try to wipe away her tears. "Sorry. Ummmm….." I stop by the door and hold out the box of tissues. "I saw you pull up and just wanted to check on you."
"How did you….?" She reaches out the window and takes a tissue trying to hide the fact that she's crying.
"Women's intuition?" I smile weakly with a shrug leaning down to look at her through the window.
"Well thank you." She sniffles again and wipes at her eyes with the tissues in her hand.
"Can I ask…. And don't think you'll offend me if you say no…. But can I ask why you are sitting in your car in front of your house crying?" I lean a hip against the door as she chuckles lightly inside.
"Because the first date that I get in years….. with an amazing guy…. Ended rather abruptly…. And now he won't answer my calls. Not that I can blame him." She looks sadly up at me.
"Would you like my opinion on this?" I ask innocently offering her another tissue. She smiles up at me and I take that as a sign to continue. "He seemed like a bit of a tool." I answer honestly with a shrug and she laughs lightly.
"He wasn't that bad. You just didn't get to know him." She reaches out the open window and shoos me off the door so she can climb out.
"Trust me Mrs. McCall…. I am a good judge of character. He isn't worth any more time. Or tears." I smile at her broadly and close the door behind her when she's out. I turn to her my face solemn. "Scott's worried about you, and that means that I'm worried too. Which is probably something you don't want to hear from a kid you barely know." I stutter when I see her eyebrows raise up.
"Thank you for coming and checking on me." She pats my arm lightly and turns to head inside. "Oh, hey Scott. I'm gonna start dinner okay?" I whirl around when she says Scott and see him standing in the doorway with Stiles. "Are you two staying as well?" Mrs. McCall asks pointing at me and Stiles. After shaking our head in response she heads inside rubbing a hand on Scott's shoulder before waving lightly at me over her shoulder.
"Thanks Percy." Scott mumbles out walking up to me and pulling me into a hug.
"I didn't do anything." I mutter into his shoulder and he releases me shaking his head.
"I need to get to Allison's and make sure the Alpha doesn't go after her." Scott nods up at Stiles and I stop Scott right before he goes off running.
"We will call if anything comes up." I say holding out my phone for him to take, Scott nods in response pocketing my phone and races off to Allison's house. "So…. Any other movies you think I should watch?" I turn to Stiles smiling.
"You up for a Star Wars marathon?" He asks leading me to the Jeep and driving to his house.
"So ready for the dance yet?" Allison asks me the next day as we were riffling through our lockers for textbooks.
"Ummm…. Well no." I answer shaking me head and closing the door as Jackson slams into the locker next to me sweating profusely.
"Hey, what time should I pick you up for the dance tomorrow?" He asks Allison looking around me.
"Don't you shower after practice?" I cringe into my locker.
"Are you okay?" Allison shoots me a glare at my statement and looks at Jackson slightly startled.
"Yeah, I'm great. I'm just excited to go to the formal." Jackson stammers as I look down the hallway and see Scott and Stiles peeking around the corner.
"And I am out of here." I duck around Allison with a slight wave and head in the two boys direction.
"Hey, don't worry." Stiles taps Scott's arm as I reach them. "We'll still be there." He motions between me and him with his hand.
"I'm still going." Scott answers watching as Allison skips down the hallway with Jackson.
"Is that such a good idea?" Stiles asks looking over at me as I straighten my bag on my shoulder. "Do you even have a date?"
"Not yet." Scott answers then looks at me.
"Don't look at me wolf-boy. I'm already spoken for and my only friend is going to the dance with your co-captain." I shrug apologetically.
"Do you have a suit?" Stiles asks watching Scott carefully.
"Not yet." Scott answers with a sigh.
"Do you have a ticket to the formal? A ride there?" Stiles holds his hands out questioningly and Scott turns to him.
"No. And no." Was Scott's simple answer.
"So, you're gonna ride your bike to a dance that you're not even allowed to go to without a date, a suit, or a way in with werewolves and werewolf hunters all out to kick your little werewolf ass." Stiles ticks off each item on his fingers.
"Yeah. You gonna help me?" Scott answers with a chuckle.
"Hell, yeah." Stiles answers and they both turn to me looking at me questioningly.
"What?" I ask as they quirk their eyebrows up at me. "Stop looking at me like that. You already know I'm gonna help." I sigh and pull out my phone as it chimes a text message. 'Dress shopping with Lydia… You coming?' Stiles starts to lead Scott away and then stops to look back at me when he sees that I'm not following.
"Perc? You coming?" He asks and I shake my head holding up my phone.
"Gotta go take care of something. See you two later." I rush out the side door to where Allison and Lydia are waiting.
"Hey." Allison says as I hop in the back seat.
"Let's go. We have a lot of work to do." Lydia urges as soon as the back door is closed. We make it to the mall in record time and Lydia is the first to exit the car striding toward the building before we even had our seatbelts undone.
"I wanted to talk to you about something." Allison says as she climbs out of the car.
"Sure. What's up?" I slide my jacket on and smile falling in step with her.
"I need your help to convince Lydia to go to the dance with someone who is not….." Allison trails off as she searches for the word.
"Scott?" I ask earning a glare from her. "Popularily inclined?" Allison raises her eyebrows at my choice of made-up word. "You know what I meant."
"Yeah. I did. And it's exactly what I meant." She nods watching Lydia a ways in front of us swinging her arms excitedly.
"I know one person who would die to go to the dance with her." I pull out my phone. "I'll call him and ask him to meet us here."
"Who?" Allison looks over my shoulder as I hit the call button and sees Stiles name on the display. "Percy. No. You really want to go to the dance with him, we can find someone else for Lydia."
"Yeah and the whole time we are there Stiles is going to be looking at Lydia anyway. I'd much rather he got to go with the person he wanted than have to deal with him pining away all night." I wave a hand dismissively the sadness weighing down on my chest as I heard the line ringing through. "It's okay. I don't mind." Allison looks at me sadly but nods as the line connects. "Go ahead I'll catch up with you." She waivers a second more before speed walking to catch up with Lydia.
"Percy? Hey. Your errand done already?" Stiles asks as soon as he answers the phone.
"Not really. But this is something you need to hear." I answer trying to sound enthusiastic.
"Okay. What's up?" I hear him shuffle the phone around and the sound of a car driving by.
"You need to get to the mall." I sigh and hang my head before continuing. "Allison and I have convinced Lydia to go to the formal with you."
"What?" I hear the phone falling and thudding against the door of the car and Stiles scrambling to pick it back up. I wait until he has it back up to his ear before answering.
"Would you please just get to the mall? I have to go Lydia and Allison are waiting. Message me when you're here." I hang up without waiting for a response and take a shuddering breath to calm down before running and catching up with the two girls.
We wander around the mall for about half an hour before my cell phone goes off announcing Stiles' arrival. I send him a quick response telling him to go to Macy's and lead the girls there. We get to the escalator when Allison sighs again.
"What's wrong with you?" Lydia asks stepping onto the escalator and turning to us.
"Nothing's wrong, I just….." Allison looks over her shoulder at me, "I have a lot on my mind."
"You could smile, at least." Lydia leans against the hand railing looking between the two of us. "Ever heard of the saying 'Never frown. Someone could be falling in love with your smile'?"
I scoff under my breath and mutter, "High unlikely." Which earns me an elbow to the ribs from Allison.
"Smile. Both of you." Lydia says in a slightly demanding tone. "Allison, I'm buying you a dress. The least you could do is pretend to smile."
"Have to admit as far as apologies go, that's more than I expected." Allison nods at me thoughtfully.
"Excellent." Lydia bobs her head up and down in satisfaction.
"But not as much as I'm going to ask." I run a hand through my hair and drum my fingers on the railing.
"What?" Lydia looks over at Allison confused, then over at me for clarification. I raise my hands defensively and shake my head in response to her questioning look. "What's that supposed to mean?" The strawberry blonde turns back to Allison asking.
"It means you're going to cancel on whatever dumb, roided-up jock you said yes to" Allison steps carefully off the escalator and then moves to the side pulling me with her before continuing. "And you're going to go with somebody else."
"Who?" Lydia joins us as I look around and spot Stiles over by the perfume counter. I tap Allison on the arm and wave a hand in his direction a sickly pit in my stomach forming.
"Him." Allison answers simply as Stiles sprays himself in the face with a sample perfume and sneezes uncontrollably. I groan and Allison reaches out to a pouting Lydia patting her shoulder comfortingly. "Oh…. Don't frown, Lydia. Someone could be falling in love with your smile." Lydia narrows her eyes at the two of us before looking over at Stiles thoughtfully. Stiles turns around and sees us at that moment and gives and awkward wave leaning on the counter next to him.
"Fine." Lydia flips her hair over her shoulder and marches over to Stiles motioning for him to follow her before leading him to the rack of dresses. Stiles looks over his shoulder excitedly throwing up a thumbs up at me before jogging to keep up with her.
Once he was out of eyesight I let my shoulders slump and release a whiny groan, and Allison looks over at me sadly.
"Are you sure about this? We can always find someone else for her to go with." She puts a hand on my shoulder lightly.
"He's happy. It's fine. Let's go. We need to find dresses too." I straighten up and force a weak smile before heading off to my left to look for dresses. After about 20 minutes of perusing I catch a glimpse of Allison over by a rack and a familiar looking guy approaching her. Focusing on the guy I recognize him as the Alpha and drop the single dress I had grabbed dodging through the racks to get to her. Catching my breath before emerging from behind the racks I watch the Alpha grab Allison's hand and hold a champagne colored dress up to it.
"See?" He says looking up at her face. "Much better."
"I think we could do better." I voice from behind Allison making her jump slightly before smiling at me.
"You don't like it?" She gestures at the dress in his hands and I shrug.
"It's not bad. But I think we could find something better." I smile at her while the Alpha glares at me sinisterly.
"Let me guess. Your friend?" He waves a hand elegantly at me asking Allison. Allison nods her response but takes a step back towards me. I reach up and place a hand on her back never taking my eyes off the Alpha.
"Yeah. We are shopping for the formal." She answers when her words come back to her.
"Oh." He nods in understanding as the intercom overhead releases a burst of static before a sales woman starts speaking.
"Attention, shoppers. The owner of a blue Mazda, license plate 5UN I768. Your car is being towed…."
Allison looks over at me gasping, "Did she just say a blue Mazda?" When I nod she shakes her head furiously. "What? That's my car." She turns to me rifling through her bag for her keys. "I'll be right back."
"I'll be here." I wave as she runs towards the escalator. The Alpha steps towards me and I take a step back turning my gaze to him.
"Be sure to pass a message on to Scott for me." He leans closer to me and whispers his next sentence. "He can't protect everyone." I glare at him trembling slightly as he turns and waltzes off in the opposite direction. I collapse leaning on one of the racks as soon as he is out of sight and jump when I feel a presence behind me.
"Hey. It's just me." Scott rests his hands on my shoulder and leads me over to a chair not to far away.
"You know. Dress shopping is not supposed to be this terrifying right?" I rub my face lightly trying to control the trembling.
"I'm sorry. This is all my fault." Scott shakes his head a crouches down in front of me.
"It's okay Scott." I smile at him and glance around the store seeing Stiles hovering over near the changing rooms and I shake my head lightly. Turning towards the escalator I see Allison coming back up and pat Scott's hand. "I now have to go do something that terrifies me more than dealing with the Alpha." Scott's eyebrows quirk upward in question as I rise to my feet. "Try and find the perfect dress. I'll see you later." He chuckles at my answer and dashes off behind one of the promotional signs not to far away as Allison reaches me.
"My car wasn't even being towed." She huffs out putting her keys back into her bag and looking at me.
"Maybe they got the license plate wrong." I shrug and walk over to the dress racks again. "Now come on, we have to look amazing." Allison chuckles and joins me over by the racks.
We spend the next few hours trying on different dresses before finally agreeing we had found the perfect ones and then we joined up with Lydia again to head home. When we got over to the changing rooms Lydia had commandeered I giggle when I see Stiles sitting in a chair snoring lightly, a pile of dresses over his lap. I walk over and poke the side of his head causing him to wake up violently.
"Go home Robin. We can handle it from here." I help him to his feet and he looks at me groggily.
"Okay….." He yawns audibly as I give him a push towards the exit. "I'll see you tomorrow." I wave at his retreating back as Lydia emerges from the dressing room holding up two dresses.
"Which one?" She shakes the blush and the blue dress in her hand lightly.
"The blush." Allison and I answer at the same time and Lydia looks the dress over before nodding her acceptance and tossing the blue one into her discarded pile.
"Shall we go?" She asks marching past us towards the register as Allison passes my dress back to me so we can go pay. The ride home was spent with mainly Lydia talking about everything she had to do tomorrow to get ready and I pretended to be listening but was truly happy when Allison pulled up in front of my house first.
"See you tomorrow." I yell clambering out of the car and grabbing my dress before slamming the door shut. Lydia paused briefly to wave half heartedly before launching into another item on her checklist for tomorrow. I sighed and rushed up to my room placing my dress on the back of my computer chair and collapsing on my bed.
The next night I pulled up in front of Scott's house and cautiously walked up the front walkway pulling at one of the curls my mom had piled onto my head. I knock on the door before smoothing my blue and green dress nervously.
"Scott, come on. You need to hurry up." Mrs. McCall yells up the stairs as she opens the front door. "Percy?"
"Hi Mrs. McCall." I smile at her giving a half wave.
"You look great. Ummm…" She gestures at my dress with a motherly smile before stepping to the side and letting me in. "Please come on in. I'm in the middle of averting a crisis but Scott's upstairs if you want to see him."
"Thanks." I nod as she rushes over to a bureau and starts digging around while I ascend the stair carefully, trying not to fall in my heels. "Scott?" I call as I head to his open door and peek around just as he comes racing out of the bathroom with no pants on.
"Mom… Did you find the nee….." Scot freezes in place when he sees me. "Percy? What are you? Um…." I laugh lightly before turning away a blush rising up my neck.
"Your mom told me to come on up. Sorry." I rub at the back of my neck nervously just as Mrs. McCall emerges at the top of the stairs holding a needle and some thread. Seeing me standing in the hall she tilts her head at me questioningly. "No pants." I answer pointing over my shoulder at Scott's room and her face lights up in understanding.
"Oh jeez. I should have warned you." She rushes past me and into the room where I hear her telling Scott to put on some pants before sitting down and working on the hole in the pants on the bed.
"I'll be right back." Scott tells his mother before joining me in the hallway now wearing sweatpants with his suit jacket. "Is everything okay?" He asks quietly closing the door behind him.
"Yeah. Of course it is. I just… I wanted to…" I groan and lean against the wall lightly tapping my head against it. "Stiles is now going with Lydia…."
"Yeah I know. He was seriously happy about that yesterday on the way home." Scott nods chuckling until he saw my face. "Why are you here?"
"I wanted to offer my assistance. I know you have to sort of break into the dance because you aren't technically allowed. And I no longer have an interest in going to the dance…. Outside of torturing myself. So I want to help." I ramble off and Scott looks at me happily.
"I would appreciate your help." He comes over and sits next to me nudging me lightly with his shoulder. "And Stiles is an idiot… For agreeing to go with Lydia when he already was going with you."
"Thanks." I mutter a slight grin appearing on my face. The door in front of us pops open and Mrs. McCall waves a hole-free pair of pants at Scott.
"Done. Here you go." She tosses the pants at his head and I stand up heading for the stairs.
"I'll be outside." I stop on the top step to say to Scott as he is entering his room. I reach my car just as my phone starts ringing in the center console, I answer after smiling at the name. "Hey Allison."
"Hey. We just got to the dance. Where are you?" I can hear laughter in the background as Allison shouts to be heard.
"I had to… I had to pick up something on my way there. I'll be there soon. Just convince Jackson to wait a second." I say in response as Scott comes bounding out of his house and slides into the passenger seat. "Okay literally two minutes now. I'll be there. Okay?" I hang up my phone and toss it back into the center console before looking at Scott. "Ready to go break into the school…. Again?" With a nod he laughs and I tear away from the curb racing towards the school.
When we arrive at the school Scott helps me from the car then looks at the front doors before turning back towards me.
"Meet you inside?" I ask finding Allison in the crowd of cars near the front of the school. Scott nods at me then takes off to our left and I watch until I see him on the roof of the school before squaring my shoulders and marching across the parking lot to where Jackson's car is. Jackson exits the car just as I arrive at the passenger side and pulls out a bottle before taking a swig. He catches my eye and offers the bottle over and I shake my head in response waiting for Allison to join us. Jackson pockets the bottle and heads over opening the door for Allison as Stiles' Jeep pulls up. I watch Stiles tumble out of the drivers side door and giggle quietly, Allison following my gaze while climbing out of the low riding Porsche.
"Let's get tonight over with." Jackson says gesturing for Allison to go ahead of him. I skip forward and link arms with her tearing my eyes from Stiles helping Lydia out of the car.
"Come find me later and I'll give you a ride home." I whisper over to her as Jackson takes another swig from his hidden bottle. "I have a feeling he won't last the night."
"Thanks." She nods and then tilts her head in Stiles' direction. "You sure you are okay with that?" We both start walking towards the school Jackson pulling up along side us.
"Jackson." Lydia straightens up from where she was wiping down her dress as we pass by them. "You look handsome."
"Obviously." Jackson answer urging Allison to continue walking. Stiles catches my eye over her shoulder and waves enthusiastically and I offer a weak smiling staying in stride with Allison. "It's Hugo Boss."
"I'm more okay with that, than I am with you agreeing to go to the dance with Jackson." I admit turning back to look where we are walking.
"Tickets please." The girl at the table by the front door says as we approach. I hand over mine and then Jackson hands over two for him and Allison and we all enter the gym together.
"I am going to get a drink. I will find you in a little bit okay?" I yell over the music separating from Allison's arm. I grab a drink from the side table and head over to the bleachers where I take a seat watching as everyone gathers around the stage to dance. I sit in silence for a few minutes until someone places a hand on my shoulder startling me and causing me to spill my drink all over the bottom of my dress and my shoes.
"Percy. Have you seen Allison?" Scott slides onto the bleacher next to me his eyes roaming the dance floor.
"Its you. Um… Yeah I came in with her. She's…." I turn and scan the dance floor finding Jackson and Allison easily pointing to them. "Over there with Jackson." He sighs deeply before urging me to stand up and go up the bleachers a little further my now wet dress sticking to my thighs. Once seated again Scott taps my arm and points off to our right and I catch a glimpse of Stiles and Lydia sitting at a table looking bored.
"You could go rescue him." Scott offers noticing my nose scrunching up. I shake my head and pull my gaze away from the table letting it float around the room until I feel Scott tense up next to me. I follow his gaze and see Allison being escorted to the dance floor by an annoyed looking Jackson.
"You could go rescue her." I say nudging him jokingly with my elbow earning me a slight grin. Scott's grin fades as he tilts his head listening to something and I raise my eyebrow at him waiting for him to tell me what's going on. He turns back to me after a few seconds with a half hearted chuckle.
"Would you like to dance?" He asks offering me his hand.
"Seeing as you aren't supposed to be here do you really think going down to where the teacher's are is the best idea?" I eye his hand sceptically before turning and looking at the dance floor. Scott stands up next to me waving his hand around slowly urging me to take it, making me giggle slightly before giving in and placing my hand in his and standing up.
"MCCALL!" We both jump as Coach's voice pierces through the loud dance music. "I see you!"
"Ummmm….. maybe we should go?" I suggest pushing Scott to move down the stairs of the bleachers and off to the side. Coach follows us with his eyes and I let go of Scott's hand shooing him and turning and heading towards the Coach who was pushing his way through the dancing students. I grab his arm as he goes to barrel past me and spin him to look at me. "Hey Coach. I had a question about the Econ homework you gave us. Was wondering if you could help me out." I peek over his shoulder holding a fake smile on my face as I tried to see where Scott had disappeared to.
"I don't have time for this right now Goodwin. Besides you could teach the class you really don't need my help." Coach brushes my hand off his arm and starts pushing through the students again and I catch Allison's eye off to my left. I shrug comically at her before chasing after the angry older man who was parting the sea of students yelling after Scott. I stumble through the crowd and see Scott standing in front of me swaying with a very confused looking Danny. I giggle into my palm as the Coach emerges on the other side of them his hair a mess.
"McCall! You're not supposed to…." He starts yelling which brings everyone's gaze to him as he takes in who Scott is dancing with. "What the hell are you….." Coach starts looking around when the music stops before whirling back around to Scott and Danny. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Yes, Coach?" Scott readjusts his hands at Danny's neck and looks innocently at the Coach who stands there stammering.
"Okay…." Coach holds his hands up defensively to everyone who had turned to stare before chuckling nervously. I catch Allison's watching across the gym and see she is trying as hard as me not to laugh at the situation. "Hold on, you…. I was just saying he's not supposed to… I mean, I wasn't saying that he shouldn't…. You guys don't think… You don't…. I….. I was…. Just dance, everybody." Coach finishes his kind of sort of speech with a flourish of his hand at the band telling them to start playing again as he backs towards the students behind him. "Just dance! It's a dance! It's a party." He cackles right before he races off through the students surrounding him to hide in some dark corner presumably.
"Thanks, dude. I owe you!" Scott removes his hands from Danny's neck and pats him on the shoulder before turning to me where I'm going red from holding in my laughter. He grabs my wrist and leads me through the crowd of people to the outskirts.
"You…." I try to catch my breath from laughing tapping Scott on the arm. "The person you are looking for is over there." I spin him around by his shoulders and point him towards Allison. "Go on." I shoo him forward winking over his shoulder at Allison.
"You going to be okay?" Scott asks taking a step towards her.
"I'll be more okay when you are finally dancing with her. Now shoo!" I grin widely at him and he takes off at a half jog towards Allison. I watch for a few seconds until Allison leads Scott to the dance floor before turning away. I see Stiles and Lydia swaying to the ballad the band had started up and my face falls from the grin. Stiles face held this tiny grin and it felt like someone had kicked me in the chest. Air Percy. I mentally tell myself, forcing my body to turn and head out the side doors and onto the lacrosse field. Once outside I take a deep breath and head up the bleachers plopping down ungracefully and letting my head hang down.
I sit in silence for 15 minutes idly playing with the wet portion of my dress and enjoying the breeze pulling through the bleachers. I lift my head up when I hear someone calling off to my right.
"Jackson!" Lydia emerges from between the two bleachers stomping her feet into the ground looking around wildly. "Jackson!" I slowly rise to stand as she reaches the middle of the field when suddenly the lights in the arena start to flip on. I raise a hand up to block out the blinding light and slowly descend the bleacher steps.
"Lydia?" I call out in response and she whips around to look at me. "What's going on?" I step closer to her and see a figure behind her that causes my eyes to go wide. Lydia follows my gaze and waivers on her feet just as I reach her side.
"Jackson!" She squints leaning forward and I blink my eyes trying to focus on the figure coming from the lights. "Jackson, is that you?" My eyes regain focus and I watch as the figure approaching us takes the form of the Alpha.
"I don't think that's Jackson." I whisper reaching forward and grabbing at Lydia's arm. I step in between her and the Alpha just as she spins around in response to Stiles yelling her name.
"Run!" Stiles yelling approaches fast but the Alpha reaches the two of quicker and I gasp as he rips me from Lydia's arm and sends me flying across the field. I collide with the goalie net posting head first and plummet to the ground feeling my leg and arm scream in protest. I try to raise my head when Lydia screams but my vision gets blurry and I drop my head back to the ground. I will myself to lift my head again and see Stiles hovering between going to Lydia, over whom the Alpha was crouching, and to me. I wave my hand weakly at him silently telling him to help Lydia. I rise up to my knees gasping when my ribs and right leg send pain rocketing through my body. A few seconds later I grasp at my head as the Alpha roars across the field, the sound echoing and amplified by the metal bleachers around us.
Gripping the goalie post I pull myself to my feet lifting my head hoping to see what was happening but my vision swimming that all I could see was blurred swirls across the field from me. Swaying slightly I take a step forward and my ankle turns causing the pain in my leg to radiate upwards again. I compose myself slightly leaning on the metal post again before stumbling my way forward. After a few faltered starts I feel arms grip me helping me stay up. I struggle weakly against them until I hear a familiar voice by the side of my head.
"Perc. Perc calm down it's me." Stiles whispers leading me a few more steps over before helping me to the ground.
"Lydia….?" I squeeze my eyes shut as I contact the ground making my voice go weak.
"She's here. I need you to stay with her." Stiles keeps a hand on my shoulder lightly rubbing as someone else steps closer. "I called Jackson he will be here in a minute. I need you to stay with her. Can you do that? Please…. Percy. Don't leave her."
I force my head to bob up wincing as the movement sends waves of pain through my head. "Where…." I feel Stiles stand up and move away from me and force my eyes open trying to focus on him. "Stiles!" My voice breaks hoarsely. "Stiles don't you dare. Don't leave me here." I yell ignoring how the pain causes my whole body to shudder. I pat the ground wildly until I come in contact with something. "Lydia?' I pat lightly and feel moist satin shift under my touch and blink furiously trying to gain some sort of vision back other than the swimming landscape I currently had. Groaning in annoyance, I squeeze my eyes shut listening for any movement around me. "Do me a favour Lydia." I whisper my hand finding her head and pushing some of the hair to the side. "Don't die on me, okay?" I shift around until I can lift Lydia's head into my lap. My vision darkens and I try to brace myself on the ground beside me. "Hurry up… Jackson…." I breath out as my body falls to the grass and I drift into unconciousness.
Waking up was supposed to be the easy part, but everytime I tried to open my eyes my brain went fuzzy and I drifted off again. I remember feeling like I was floating, hearing muffled voices, and someone gripping my hand, but I didn't know where I was. This last time I had forced myself to keep my eyes closed and chose to just listen and feel. I was reclined, on very scratchy sheets, and I could feel a slight pressure around my nose and mouth. The sounds were harder to make out as they were all muffled and distorted, but I did hear a consistent tone going off. I waited floating there for what could have been minutes or possibly hours before a name flashed through my head causing me to jolt upward pulling my eyes open. LYDIA!
I gasped as the light stung my eyes but managed to keep them open and take in a little of my surroundings. I was in the hospital, I could tell by the tiles above my head and the fluorescent lights. I really hate hospitals. I mentally say lifting my head slightly and swearing silently as my whole body objects to the movement. I rest my head back against the pillow again breathing deeply before trying again. This time when I open my eyes I see a face floating above me looking worried.
"Percy?" The garbled voices start to become less static filled and I hear my name. I blink a few times and the face above me comes into focus and I try smiling when I recognize it as Mrs. McCall. "Hey. Easy now." She rests a hand on my arm and eases me back into the pillow I had been trying to rise out of. I pull my hand off the bed and reach up forcing myself to brush it against her arm.
"Lyd…ia?" I croak out the sound even more muffled than the ones I'd been hearing before.
"She's here too. Just stay here I'm going to grab your mom." She pushes up off the bed and rushes off after flashing me a slight smile. Once she's gone I take a few deep breaths before pushing myself to sit up again. This time I make it to being fully vertical and my vision starts to swim and I feel a wave of nausea roll over me. Come on Percy. Hold it together. I sit still until my vision stops spinning as much and reach up and pull off the oxygen mask covering my mouth and nose. If bodies could talk mine would have been swearing like a sailor at this point but I ignored it swinging my legs over the side of the bed. I see my leg colored a disgusting blackish blue and sigh mentally preparing myself for what came next. Okay nice and easy Perc. I slide forward on the bed until my feet touch the floor and steady myself on the bed to rise to my feet. Reaching to my left my hand comes in contact with my IV stand and I chuckle silently to myself before leaning on it. Looking around the ER I see nurses rushing around to other patients and my eyes lock on the exit to my left.
Using the IV stand as a crutch I take a step forward and almost fall to the ground when pain climbs up my leg and threatens to give out. I moan under my breath and pull myself up again shuffling my foot across the floor and slowly making my way to the door. Pushing through it I slide down the hallway resembling a zombie from any old monster movie. I round the corner and see Allison staring sinisterly through one of the glass windows to a room. I brace myself on the wall and watch as she reaches up placing her hand on the glass. After a few seconds she removes her hand and strides down the hallway and out an exit door. I remove my hand from the stand next to me and use the wall to shuffle forward but hiss as the IV pulls at my skin. Glaring down I pull the tape off and slowly slide the needle out of my hand rubbing the spot gingerly. I turn back to the wall and limp forward until I can look through the window Allison had just been at.
On the other side I see Lydia, laying in a bed her eyes closed and monitors hooked up to her beeping steadily. I breathe a sigh of relief letting my head tap the glass lightly. I stand there like that for a few minutes before looking around seeing seats not to far down from me. Leaning against the wall again I shuffle towards them and lower myself gently down wincing every time the slightest movement caused pain. I close my eyes and let my head drift back against the wall until someone sits next to me.
"Percy? Aren't you supposed to be in the ER?" I open my eyes and weakly smile at the sheriff who is looking at me worriedly.
"I escaped." I whisper and he shakes his head at me. "Please don't tell anyone. I just wanted to check on Lydia." The sheriff was about to wave a nurse over and I reach up placing a hand on his arm stopping him. "Please?"
The sheriff goes to open his mouth just as the elevator door slides open and he shoots out of his chair cutting off the blur that exited the doors. I watch as he stops Stiles and growls lowly at him. "You know what? It's good that we're in a hospital because I'm gonna kill you." He points at his son silently telling him to stay put. I twist my head around as Jackson walks past me to stand at the window looking at Lydia. I push off the chair and curse when the pain starts radiating again before turning and leaning on the wall beside him.
"Thank you." I say my voice tearing his eyes from the room in front of him. He looks greatly confused by my statement and I nod slowly at Lydia. "For getting her here." I explain and he nods before turning back to look at her and I turn back to the Stilinski's who are whispering angrily at one another.
"Stiles, I don't care!" The sheriff suddenly yells making both me and the boy in question wince. I see Stiles raise a hand gesturing towards the room behind me and his mouth drop open when he sees me standing there.
Pushing past his dad he comes over and crushes me into a hug.
"Ow Stiles. Really…. Ow!" I groan and push at his arms forcing him to let go of me. He takes a step back and looks me over.
"Are you okay?" He looks down at me and I sigh before pointing at him angrily.
"You left me on the field." I shake my head when he tries to say something. "I get that you probably had to but…." I look past Stiles at the sheriff. "Is she going to be okay?" I ask him pointing over my shoulder at the room behind me.
The sheriff sighs looking at me sadly. "They don't know, partially because they don't know what happened. She lost a lot of blood, and there's something else going on with her."
"What do you mean?" Stiles asks turning to look at his dad.
"The doctors say it's like she's having an allergic reaction. Her body keeps going into shock." The sheriff answers and I brace myself on the wall to turn and look at Lydia. Her mother stood by her side running her fingers through her hair and I catch her eyes when she looks up. After shooting her an encouraging smile I turn back around and use Stiles as a leaning post. "Did you two see anything?" Sheriff Stilinski points between the two of us. "I mean, do you have any idea who or what attacked her?"
Stiles and I shake our heads at the same time. "I don't remember much other than the lights turning on." I answer and the sheriff nods before turning to his son again.
"What about Scott?" My head jerks up at the mention of him and I stumble slightly into Stiles who wraps an arm around me to hold me up.
"What do you mean?" Stiles asks as I let out a shuddering breath.
"What happened to Scott?" I gasp out when my ribs decide to release a waterfall of tingling pain.
"Did he see anything?" The sheriff restates his question.
"What do you…." Stiles looks down at me confused then back up at his dad. "Is he not here?"
"Scott wasn't out there with us." I answer the sheriff honestly. "Has no one seen him?
"What are you two talking about? I've been calling him on his cell phone. I've gotten no response." I glance up at Stiles who is breathing heavily.
"Yeah, you're not gonna get one." Stiles answers his dad who throws his hands up in response.
"What is that supposed to mean?" He yells and I start at the sudden volume change.
"He lost his phone again." I whisper bringing my hand up to rub my head. I squeeze my eyes shut and lean heavily into Stiles.
"Percy? You okay?" Stiles scrambles to hold me up and I nod my head.
"I just…. I need to sit down." I answer and Stiles and the sheriff help me shuffle over to the chair I had vacated a few minutes ago.
"I'm going to grab a nurse." The sheriff calls over his shoulder as he rushes down the hallway. Stiles sits down next to me and watches me worriedly.
"Stiles. I'm fine really. You need to find out what happened to Scott." Stiles shakes his head and is about to answer me right as the sheriff returns with Mrs. McCall in tow.
"I vaguely recall telling you to stay put." She says as she drops to my side lifting my chin to look at my eyes.
"I don't remember that." I joke chuckling and then groaning when my head roars.
"Uh huh." Mrs. McCall answers shining a light into my eyes. I cringe slightly away when she shines it into my right eye and she 'tsks' at me returning the penlight to her pocket. "Your head is going to hurt for awhile but there's no serious damage there. However your leg and ribs are another thing."
"My leg isn't that bad." I point at the severely bruised limb and she just gives me her motherly smile.
"Yeah not bad huh? I'll be right back. I need to at least splint it until we can get you looked at." She stands up then points at me. "Stay." Then she turns to Stiles. "Don't let her get up." Stiles nods his accent and she rushes off to the nurses station to gather supplies.
"I'm sorry Perc." Stiles whispers once she's out of earshot. I hold up a hand to stop him.
"Will you please tell me what happened? Or at least why you ran off?" I ask and he nods at me sadly just as Mrs. McCall emerges from around the corner again.
"Later, okay? I promise." He stands up once I nod and goes over to talk to his dad while Mrs. McCall kneels by my leg again.
"Just let me know if it hurts too much okay?" She smiles up at my slowly turning my leg so she can get to work on splinting it.
Half an hour later I'm limping down the hallway with a crutch under my arm looking for Stiles. I run into him as he races down an opposing hall with Jackson on his tail.
"Where are you going?" Jackson grabs at Stiles' arm as he tries to right me.
"To find Scott." Stiles answers patting my arm and then walking around me. I hop after the two of them.
"But you don't have a car." Jackson says skirting around me and jogging to keep up with Stiles brisk pace.
"I'm aware of that. Thank you." Stiles throws over his shoulder stopping when he sees me following them. "Percy what are you doing?"
"I'm coming with you." I answer leaning the crutch up against the wall and facing him.
"No you aren't. It's too dangerous. You could get hurt." Jackson rolls his eyes at the two of us and huffs out a breath.
"I'm already hurt." I gesture at my leg and hiss when my ribs decide to voice their opinion. "What more can happen to me? Besides… Scott is my friend too. If I can do something to help I'm going to."
"Perc…" Stiles starts and Jackson breaths frustratedly at us before turning Stiles towards him.
"She's coming." I perk up slightly at Jackson's words before furrowing my brow. "I'll drive. Come on…"
"Look, just because you feel guilty all of a sudden doesn't make it okay, all right?" Stiles points fiercely at Jackson his jaw set in anger. "Half of this is still your fault."
"Look, I have a car. You don't. Do you want my help or not?" Jackson looks between me and Stiles.
"All right." Stiles sighs before waving a hand at him. "Did you bring the Porsche?"
"Yeah." Jackson answers pulling the keys out of his pocket and holding them up.
"Good." Stiles grabs the keys from his hand before turning to me. "I'll drive." He helps me turn towards the exit right as a group of men appear in front of us. I squeak shrilly as I hop back into Stiles to avoid colliding with one of the men.
"Boys." Mr. Argent appears from between the two guys and nods at Stiles and Jackson, who had both manuvered me to stand behind them. "I was wondering if you can tell me where Scott McCall is."
"Scott McCall?" Stiles looks at me confused and I frown as Jackson freezes up. "Um…. Haven't seen him since the dance"
"You saw him at the dance?" I lean forward slightly to glance up at him.
"Not the time Percy." Stiles whispers lowly shooting me a look. "Jackson, you?" Jackson whirls his head back around to look at the glaring men.
"Uh…." I can hear Jackson gulp as he struggles to answer. "I….." Stiles and I both hang our heads as Jackson fumbles up the whole thing.
"Oh, for the love of God." Stiles watches as the men advance on them and pushes me further behind him. The two larger gentlemen grab Stiles and Jackson and shove them through a door to their left as Mr. Argent comes over to me and grips my arm.
"You know Mr. Argent, if you let me go you can be assured that it's very likely I won't make it to the nurses station for at least half an hour." I grin fakely up at him as pain radiates through my arm from his hold.
"Come on." He lifts my arm slightly and leads me stumbling into the same room as the boys stopping me right inside the doors so he can lock them. "Don't move." He points at me before turning to the boys. I nod in response rubbing my arm where he'd been holding. "Let's try this again. Where is Scott McCall?"
"I haven't seen him." Stiles answers glancing worriedly over at me. Mr. Argent roars as he grabs Stiles and slams him up against the doors behind us. I jump to the side my hip colliding with a countertop.
"Let me ask you a question, Stiles. Have you ever seen a rabid dog?" I wince as his voice increases in volume.
"No. I could put it on my to-do list if you just let me go." Stiles mumbles glaring down at the hands holding him against the door.
"Well, I have, and the only thing I've ever been able to compare it to is seeing a friend of mine turn on a full moon." Chris growls out as I look over to see one of the other men holding a teary-eyed Jackson in place next to a gurney. "Do you want to know what happened?"
"Not really." Stiles shakes his head against the door. "No offense to your storytelling skills."
"He tried to kill me, and I was forced to put a bullet in his head." Mr. Argent continues ignoring Stiles' comment.
"Harsh." I whisper and Stiles stares at me wide eyed.
"The whole while that he lay there dying, he was still trying to claw his way toward me, still trying to kill me, like it was the most important thing he could do with his last breath. Can you imagine that?" He yells the last sentence and Stiles starts breathing heavily.
"No." Stiles answers and I shuffle forward slightly. "And it sounds like you need to be a little bit more selective….." Mr. Argent slams his hands against the doors right next to Stiles head making me stop in my tracks.
"Did Scott try to kill you on the full moon? Did you have to lock him up?" He yells and I shake my head.
"Yeah, I did." Stiles answers and I gasp as he does so. "I had to handcuff him to a radiator. Why? Would you prefer I locked him in the basement and burned the whole house down around him?"
Chris chuckles under his breath taking a step back from Stiles and turning to look at me and Jackson. "I hate to dispel a popular rumor, Stiles, but we never did that."
"Oh, right." Stiles tilts his head in a nod before continuing. "Derek said you guys had a code. I guess no one ever breaks it."
"Never." Mr. Argent answers barely even looking up from the floor.
"What if someone does?" Stiles asks looking at me as I drag myself over to the gurney where Jackson is standing.
"Someone like who?" Mr. Argent turns to the boy asking his interest piqued.
"Your sister." Stiles answers and Mr. Argent looks at him grinding his teeth and breathing just slightly heavier.
"Mr. Argent? Where's Allison?" I pull his attention away from Stiles briefly as he looks at me confused.
"Why?" He asks releasing Stiles shirt and turning to me.
"Lydia is her best friend, and outside of a brief two second interval earlier, she hasn't come to see her." I shrug my shoulders ignoring the pain that it brings. "When I last saw Scott he was dancing with her. If you know he's a werewolf then I'm assuming she does too."
"Are you trying to get somewhere with this?" Stiles asks looking at me incredulously.
"Allison told me that she and Kate have always been close. That, Kate, was the one to teach her to shoot a bow. If your sister is off the rails, how long before she drags Allison into it? If she hasn't already." I ask pointedly. "You may have a code, but I'm willing to bet that Kate doesn't follow it anymore." I wave a hand at Stiles and Jackson. "We just want to help."
"You are children. How could you possibly help?" He stares at me as he considers something.
"It's just…. We know who the Alpha is, and how you can find him." Mr. Argent looks at the other two men in the room and nods at them to let go of Jackson.
"Where is he?" He asks looking at me as Jackson straightens up next to me.
"Hale house probably." I shrug again and Mr. Argent unlocks the door motioning for his men to leave. "Mr. Argent!" He stops and turns to me. "Scott never hurt anyone. Don't hurt him." He strides off towards the exit and I collapse against the gurney behind me as Stiles rushes over to me.
"How did you do that?" He asks wrapping an arm around me and helping me straighten up.
"I don't know. We need to get to Hale house… Now." Stiles nods and helps lead me to the door and towards Jackson's car.
"What makes you think they are at the Hale house?" Jackson asks from behind us grumbling.
"If you had spent six years planning revenge, wouldn't you want to end things where it all started?" I look over my shoulder as Stiles opens the Porsche passenger side door and motions for Jackson to get in.
"We need to make a quick stop at the school first." Stiles says as he slides into the driver's seat checking to make sure I'm buckled in before taking off.
"No not that one." I reach across the counter in the chemistry lab to stop Jackson from pouring the solution in his hand. He glares at me across the table and I hold his stare. "You may be high and mighty on the field but this is my domain. Put the bottle down." I push his hand down and grab the sulphuric acid on the table and hand it to him. "That one." Stiles comes sliding into the room and looks at the jars on the table.
"Are you done yet?" He asks glancing at the clock at the rear of the classroom.
"Yeah." I nod pushing off the stool I had been sitting on and gasping when my weight settled on my leg. "Let's go." I push a stopper into the two cocktails we had mixed and headed for the door Stiles and Jackson running past me towards the car.
Stiles sprays dirt up as he speeds down the wood trail in the Porsche.
"Hey, hey, hey. This isn't exactly an all-terrain vehicle." Jackson leans forward from the backseat smacking Stiles on the arm.
"Yeah? Did you pay for it?" Stiles asks shooting him a look over his shoulder.
"No." Jackson sighs sliding back in his seat his head colliding with the headrest.
"Then shut up." Stiles answers speeding up. I squeeze my eyes shut as every bump jostles my already sore body. I must have released a groan of pain because a few seconds later I feel a hand on my arm and look over at Stiles. "You okay?"
"Yeah." I grit my teeth as a particularily nasty bump causes my head to collide with the door. "Would it kill you to have a bigger car?" I glare at Jackson in the back seat and Stiles smirks removing his hand to shift gears. We screech to a halt and Stiles lays on the horn as the headlights envelop the Alpha fully transformed. I push open the door and slide out Jackson right behind me holding onto one of the cocktails. Stiles hurls the one in his hand at the Alpha which he easily catches. "Are you sure you are on a sports team?" I glare at him over the car before my eyes land on Scott and Allison crouching on the ground.
"Oh, damn." Stiles answers staggering back to the car.
"Allison!" I hear Scott yell and watch as he tosses her her bow which she catches with ease. She quickly sets up her shot and looses an arrow exploding the jar in the Alphas hand and lightly its arm on fire. I squint against the sudden light and feel someone stumble into me. Looking up I see Stiles who is watching in horror as the Alpha swings his arm around trying to put out the fire.
"JACKSON!" His head whips around from where he's been standing since we arrived and I point at the cocktail in his hand and he nods before sending it flying directly the Alpha's torso where it explodes in flame. Stiles pulls me up and wraps an arm around my waist leading me back over the car, his eyes never leaving the burning creature in front of the house.
"Allison!" I scream without realizing as the alpha advances on her roaring. Scott sends him stumbling backwards towards us with a swift kick. The creature collapses to his knees slowly transforming back into a person and the fire slowly extinguishes until a badly burned human form is left kneeling where the Alpha had fallen.
Stiles goes to head towards Scott as the area quiets down but I grab his hand to stop him before gesturing at the scene unfolding. Allison walks up to Scott and kneels next to him looking at his face, which was still transformed. We all watch as she slowly leans in to kiss him and he slowly returns to normal. Scott turns towards the body that is still writhing and gasping for air in time to see Derek waltzing up to it. He kneels over top of the body and Scott scrambles away from Allison to reach him.
"Wait!" He yells stopping next to a tree holding his hand out to Derek. "You said the cure comes from the one who bit you." Stiles looks down at me as I push past him. "Derek. If you do this, I'm dead." Scott gestures towards Allison where she's standing in her dad's arms. "Her father, her family… What am I supposed to do?" Derek raises an arm after a few seconds his claws extended and Scott lunges forwards. "Wait! No, no! Don't!" I spin into Stiles as Derek slashes the Alpha's throat, and he wraps his arms around me as I gasp into his shoulder.
"I'm the Alpha now." A distorted voice comes from behind me and I peek over seeing Derek tower over the body, his entire stance changed. He stands there panting for a few more seconds before disappearing into the darkness of the woods surrounding us and Scott falls to his knees. Stiles and I slowly approach him before I slide down beside him silently my injured leg screaming in protest.
"Scott?" I whisper cautiously as his body shudders, whether from being upset or from anger I couldn't tell. He slowly lifts his head and looks over at me his shoulders slumped over.
"That was the only way I could be cured." He says quietly. "Now what am I going to do?"
"There's got to be another way." I shake my head and Stiles nods in agreement behind me. "We will find it Scott."
"And what if we don't?" Scott asks turning fully towards me.
"We will." I answer reaching out and gripping his hand tightly.
"If all else fails you can always take my advice and finally let Derek die." Stiles pipes up bringing the lightest smile to Scott's face.
"I saw that." I whisper to him as Stiles turns to look at Jackson who is fussing over his car. Scott rises to his feet and extends a hand down to me to help me up. I grab it hesitantly and groan when my ribs send a rack of pain through me quickly joined by my leg. Stiles turns around at the sound and helps me up fully forcing me to lean on him and Scott looks at me worriedly. "I'm fine." I smile reassuringly at him as the pain starts to subside, turning my head to look over my shoulder as leaves crunch announcing a new arrival.
"Hey." Allison stops a few feet from us and pushes her hair behind her ear. "We're gonna go." She points over her shoulder at her dad and Scott steps toward her and she quickly matches him by taking a step backward. "Thanks." She mutters before turning to head back to her dad.
"Allison…. Wait." I say loudly stopping her in her tracks before pointing at the necklace she was wearing. "We need that." She looks down at the pendant and then up at me before nodding and pulling it off stepping closer and handing it to Stiles before smiling at me and walking away again.
"Why do we need this?" Stiles asks holding up the necklace and it twirls in front of my face.
"Your dad is looking for someone with that pendant for the Hale fire right?" I point towards the house behind us. "Kate's body is in there. We should at least help a little bit." Scott takes the necklace off Stiles finger and disappears quickly inside reemerging a minute later. "Now." I look up at Stiles who is pretty much the only reason I'm staying vertical at this point. "You should probably get me back to the hospital." Scott hops down the steps and helps Stiles guide me to the car. The way back to the hospital was ghostly quiet except for the few times where Stiles tried to lighten the mood. I tuned it out after about 15 minutes and rested my head against the window letting slumber take over me.
