Lucy remained silent as the chariot made its way back to the large building where they started from. She heard Masa words and immediately thought of Cana. Her friend lasted two days in the games. Cana's partner had been Kain Hikaru. His magic consisted of a voodoo doll and the opponents lock of hair. Unfortunately he was beaten easily in the first day and had left Cana on her own. Her last moments consisted of a battle between her and a tribute named Bluenote. Lucy remembered watching Cana battle the gravity user with her card magic.
When she was finally out of cards and low on magic, she resorted to using one of the gifts from her sponsor. Cana took off her protective black coat to show a large glowing red marking on her right arm. Her last words were forever memorized in Lucy's mind. "Fairy Glitter." Such a powerful spell drained Cana of all her magic. Bluenote withstood the attack and took his opportunity. Lucy remembered looking away and holding Li tight as she cried. Then Cana's scream filled her Province and she knew her friend was forever gone.
Lucy lifted her head as the chariot stopped. She thought of Li. Wondered who was taking care of the girl she considered her little sister. She hoped it was Virgo. The maid was always kind to the girl and Lucy. Though she did have a strange way of addressing her by calling Lucy 'Princess' all the time. Suddenly, Lucy let out a sharp laugh scaring Natsu.
"Oi, Lucy. What's so funny?" He asked lifting an eyebrow at her. Lucy placed her left gloved covered hand over her mouth stifling her loud giggles. After a few moments she shook her head and clasped her hands behind her back.
"Nothing." Lucy gave him a smile before stepping down off the chariot and into a hard body. Lucy back up dazed. She looked up and saw a boy about her age. His crimson colored hair matched nicely with his large magenta eyes. Lucy stared at his tan face then looked down at the armor he was wearing. Suddenly, she heard the boy above her gasped. Lucy looked to his face and she stumbled back at his wide smile showing off his sharp canines.
"Ummmm. I'm sorry." Lucy offered backing up closer to her partner who was talking to his female stylist. If even possible the boy smiled even wider.
"That voice! Those eyes! That mouth! That hair! That bosom! That waist! All of it makes my Fibonacci sequence! And if we weren't in these games together it would spell out…. L-O-V-E! That's love! Love!"
Lucy looked at him with her mouth agape as the boy pointed at the parts he shouted out.
Oh my.
You said it.
Before she could even respond her arm was jerked back pulling the rest of her body with it. The person tugging Lucy away turned her over to face her.
"Karen!" Lucy shouted in relief. Karen raised a well-trimmed eyebrow.
"Making friends, I see."
Someone's in trouble. Masa sang. Lucy scrunched up her face refusing to humor Masa anymore.
Lucy huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. "All I did was bump into him and then he started proclaiming his love for me!"
Karen looked over the Celestial Mage's shoulder and saw the strange boy kneeling in front of a red-headed girl with a deranged look on her face. Karen chuckled lowly.
"Dan Straight." She said. Lucy looked back. "What kind of mage is he?"
Karen shrugged. "Who knows? C'mon let's go."
Karen began to walk off towards the elevator door with Lucy trailing behind her. Cinna saw her and walked over.
"You looked amazing. There's no way they will be able to forget you now." Lucy smiled at her stylist then stepped in the elevator to see Natsu and Happy laughing widely. The blue exceed covered his mouth with his paws and puffed out his cheeks. Lucy gave them a strange look before Happy finally spoke.
"He lllllikkes you." He said laughing again. Lucy mouth dropped. "Y-you saw. And why are you rolling your tongue!?"
Happy extended his wings and flew behind Natsu. Lucy mumbled something under her breath about a nosey cat then stepped inside the elevator to their room.
"We're on the twelfth floor. Our Effie should be waiting for us." Karen sighed as she thought of their representative.
Natsu hummed. "What about Mas-Makarov." He said looking to Lucy to see if she caught on to his mistake. He saw her staring at the door clearly in her own world. Karen waved her hand.
"That drunken fool should be in the kitchen like he always is."
The elevator chimed once they reached the twelfth floor. The group exited the elevator into a very expensive looking condo.
"Oh, my wasn't that splendid!" Everyone internally groaned at the purple Effie clone. Lucy tuned out the Effie's praises as she took in the exclusive condo. The floor was made out of blue and white glass. While the walls were made of sandalwood. She looked to her right and saw and well-furnished dining room with a glass table filled with food much like in the dining car. There were eight lime green chairs surrounding the long rectangular table.
"Lucy!" Natsu voice rang in her ear. Lucy looked to her partner and saw him slowly walking towards the table with the others. The girl smiled and walked over to him. As they all sat down at the table, Makarov finally made his appearance. He wore the same garb he wore on the train except this time he actually wore shoes. He stumbled in grumbling incoherently to himself. He walked closer to the empty seat beside Karen and climbed up.
Karen held her breath as the smell of booze entered the room. Karen stood up and pulled a wooden stick with a heart shaped handle. She swung it back then slammed it down on Makarov sending him across the room. Everybody grew still and silent as Karen grabbed the knocked out mentor to another room.
"Well, then shall we eat." Effie said and was followed after a loud burp. Lucy looked beside her to see a bloated Natsu and Happy rubbing their bellies happily. The plates before them were completely cleaned. Lucy and Masa sighed together.
Well, you can't pick your partner can you? Lucy smiled slightly then continued eating.
The next morning was training day. All twenty-four tributes were gathered in a room full of weapons, lacrima screens, and practice courses.
"All of you will be assigned a mentor to help you train." A tall athletic woman says then continues to explains the rules of the training sessions. Lucy fidgeted nervously as she looked at the other tributes. Most of them looked well-fit with a few exceptions of Lucy, Katja, a blue headed girl caster, a light brown head girl caster, and a blonde headed boy caster.
Lucy sighed heavily and hung her head.
Lucy, don't worry you're stronger than you look.
Thanks Masa.
Lucy felt Natsu tugging on her arm and willingly followed him. The two went to a private room where they saw Karen standing with her arms crossed. Lucy walked into the room without Natsu. She looked back at him and gave him a questioning look.
"I'm goin' to the fire station." He said walking away casually. Just as he left, little Katja ran into the room. She paused to stare at Lucy then continued to the center of the room with her head low.
"Two Celestial Mages this year. I must be in luck." Karen said then reached for the table behind her and pulled a golden key with goat horns off of it. She tossed it to Lucy.
"Let's see how good you are at summoning."
Lucy nodded and focused her energy on the key. She recognized the emblem on the key from the magic books in her library. She lifted the key above her head and swung it across her body while saying, "Gate of the Goat, I open thee. Capricorn!"
Lucy looked up and saw a white goat wearing a green tie, yellow dress shirt, black suit, and black shades. He was much taller than Lucy.
"You summoned me?"
Lucy looked down at the key then up to the goat. "Yeah, I did." She said softly. Karen broke her shock by commanding Capricorn to teach both Celestial Mages how to increase their magic power. Lucy smiled slightly as she sat down on the floor next to Katja Indian style.
