Episode 125 : "The Fate of Delta Five : Part IV"
"Can't we get this ship to go any faster?" Jeff shouted angrily.
"The engineers are pushing the engines to their limits," Sparks replied. "Any harder and they might blow up altogether." Christiane put a hand on her husband's shoulder.
"It'll be alright," she said. "We're doing the best we can."
"I'm still not convinced leaving the base like that was the right decision," Jeff said.
"It was the decision that had to be made," she replied. "If we didn't stop Wade when we did, we wouldn't have a home to come back to. And if we didn't find the Forge, Voltron would have been finished."
"I know," Jeff said. "I just hope that we're not too late. I know Voltron's limitations. When we first took control of it, everything we learned was on the fly. Now I know it inside and out….or at least, I thought I did."
"There are always going to be things about Voltron we don't understand," she replied. "Secrets that none of us will ever understand. But it's those things, coupled with our faith in him, that help us achieve victory." She looked him in the eye. "Voltron single handedly took down the corrupted Drule Empire. That same mighty robot is on its way to protect the base." Jeff nodded, then looked over at Sparks.
"How much longer on full power until we arrive in the Delta System?" he asked.
"Less than a half hour, Commander," Sparks replied.
"Let's hope they made it there in time," he said.
The entire team screamed in agony as the electric charge flowed through the hull.
"They're going to fry the systems if we don't do something quick!" Ken shouted.
"Pull it!" Krik ordered. Jenny pulled the controls with all of her might, and Voltron grabbed the cables. The sensation intensified.
"Come on….we can do this…" Jenny said, gritting her teeth. The team fought through the pain, and Voltron pulled hard, sending the robeast hurling at them. Voltron turned and kicked the robeast, sending it backwards to the ground.
"The electrical flow stopped," Ken said.
"Don't let it get back up!" Jenny shouted. Voltron charged at the robeast.
"Get us back on our feet!" Grom shouted. "Don't just stand there, you fools!"
"Form Solar Combat Spear!" Jenny shouted., The halves shot up from the panels on Voltron's lower legs into his hands, and he quickly combined them into one solid spear. He leaped into the air and drove the spear through the robeast, flipping over him and landing on the other side. Voltron turned in time to see the robeast struggle to its feet.
"I will not let a band of pathetic humans stop the might of the Halas!" Grom shouted. "Initiate Operation Full Barrier!" The crew went to work as Grom sat in his chair once again, staring intently at the viewscreen. "Come meet your doom, Voltron Force!"
"Spin us around and hit hit with a hard right!" Jenny shouted.
"Knock his block off!" Rocky shouted in approval. Voltron turned and swung to hit the robeast, but then a barrier appeared between them, and Voltron was jolted backwards. The robeast swung forward, and the barrier flew at Voltron, hitting him like a brick wall, and sending him flying backwards and to the ground.
"I'm far from done!" Grom shouted. "Grab that pathetic waste of a robot! Let's see how well it holds up when it's flung helplessly into Delta's sun!" The robeast grabbed Voltron and dragged it into the air, lifting it off the planet and heading into space.
"What's it doing?" Mai asked.
"It's got us!" Shannon yelled.
"It's dragging us into space!" Cliff shouted.
"It is not just dragging us into space," Krik said, "It is heading strait for the…."
"Sun," Ken finished, staring intently at his viewscreen. "It's going to try and throw us into the sun."
"Are systems still online?" Jenny asked. There was a moment of silence. "Dammit, answer me!"
"Whatever that shield was, it shut us down," Ken said. "I'm waiting for the systems to come back….but without enough power, we won't be back online before…." They went silence.
"We can't just sit here!" Hutch shouted. "We gotta do something!"
"Wait…" Ken said, a spark filling his mind with thought. "The sun! Solar energy!"
"What are you rambling on about, hunter?" Dixie asked.
"Dixie, we need to expand the solar panels," he replied. "If we can collect enough solar energy, we can…."
"Jump start Voltron?" Dixie asked.
"Brilliant!" Jenny shouted. "Activating the panels now. Get ready for some evasive maneuvers if and when we come online."
"Right" they all said in unison. The solar panels expanded, and caught the rays of the sun, the movement not catching the eye of Grom.
"On my mark, I want you to come to a stop and then release the cables," Grom ordered. "I want to watch the lifeless hunk of metal and flesh burn in the fires of the Deltan sun!"
"Power levels increasing," Ken said, "but it's gonna be close." Cinda suddenly felt a thought enter the back of her mind. Her voltcom began to glow, as did her eyes.
"You're not going to stop us that easily," she muttered. She plugged her voltcom into the console, and the energy from the solar collectors surged through Voltron like a jolt of lightning. His eyes lit up.
"We have power!" Ken shouted!"
"Now, Dixie!" Jenny shouted.
"Yippie ki-yay mother…." Dixie shouted as Voltron pulled hard on the cables and yanked the robeast backwards. Voltron, still attached, turned around.
"Electro-thremoblasters!" Jenny shouted. "Full power!" The blast came from Voltron's chest, hitting the robeast, and sending it backwards into a spin.
"Hang on!" Krik shouted as Voltron was yanked with them, hurtling back towards the planet.
"What is going on?" Grom shouted angrily.
"Voltron was reactivated, General!" one of the officers replied.
"That's impossible!" Grom said. "The negatron barrier should have drained them of all power! No machine can withstand it!"
"We're coming in hot!" Cliff shouted.
"We've gotta slow down before we crash with this robeast," Jenny said. "Marvin, Hutch, full thrusters! Cinda and Modoch, you too. Give it all you got!" Voltron's hands and feet fired downwards, desperately trying to slow Voltron's descent, being dragged downward by the falling robeast.
"Reverse engines!" Grom ordered. "I want to bring us to s stop and send that robot plummeting into the ground! Yank the cables!" The robeast managed to slow, and Voltron overtook it, but the thrusters helped Voltron maintain speed and control, and he landed on his feet with a thud.
"Now I think it's time we turn the tables on the Halas," Jenny said, cracking her knuckles.
"Ready when you are," Ken said, connecting his Voltcom.
"Form Spinning Laser Blades!" Jenny shouted as Voltron pulled the blades from tis shouders.
"Get us on the ground!" Grom ordered. "Put up the shield!" before they could blink, Voltron ran at the robeastr, slicing through both cables first, then twice through the robeast, cutting into the arms, nearly severing them.
""It's no use, General!" the officer said. "Voltron just severed one of the main reactor lines! We have to abandon the ship before it explodes!"
"I'll take that son of a bitch with me before that happens!" Grom shouted. He glared at the bridge crew. "DO NOT LEAVE YOUR POSTS!" A deathly silence fell on them. "Key in the auto-destruct sequence. Then use all remaining power to fly at their precious base. I will not allow the Alliance to make fools of the Halas!" The robeast took off running.
"Where's it going?" Mai asked.
"It looks like it's heading for the base!" Jenny said.
"Jenny," Ken said, keying things into his console, "their power levels are dangerously high. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they were going to…."
"Self-destruct," Christiane whispered to herself, staring blankly at the viewscreen.
To be continued….
