Chapter 84
Arizona had met Callie at the deli and bought lunch for everyone in the office after she left the hospital. Assuring her wife that she was fine, they finally made it back to the clinic just in time for lunch.
"I've got to go babe, I have a surgery in twenty." Callie stood from her wife's desk. "Thanks for lunch." She said leaning in for a kiss. After eating, Callie, Arizona and Teddy all wondered off to her office to spend the rest of their lunch break chatting before they got back to work.
"No, thank you." Arizona said, pecking red lips one more time before Callie walked away. "Wait.." She ran over to her wife. "I've not got my hug." She wrapped her arms around her wife.
"Well we can't forget that now can we?" Callie laughed embracing her back. "You sure you're okay." She whispered. The blonde had been acting kinda weird since she met her at the deli.
"I'm perfect. I love you."
"Good. I love you too, honey. I'll see you later." She said, kissing her on top of the head before leaving.
Watching Callie walk into the stairwell, she made sure the brunette was up in her ward before turning and grinning widely at Teddy. "What?" The darker blonde asked confused as to why her friend was so perky all of the sudden.
Pulling out the ultrasound pictures Addison had gave her an hour prior, she held it up to her best friend. "Holy shit! Seriously?" Teddy said, taking the pictures.
"Seriously!"
"I thought your test was negative?"
"It was, but the blood test wasn't." Arizona shrugged.
"So this is where you were at?"
"Yeah. Callie wanted me to go. She said I'd been super moody, but I told her it was only because I was sick. I had a head cold and I did in fact have a twenty-four virus on top of it, but she thought it was morning sickness I guess. I had morning sickness before and this was not it. So she made me. You of all all people know I tend to get grouch while sick."
"Oh, I'm very familiar." Teddy smiled, studying the little blob.
"Well, that wasn't the kicker.. I might have cried just a little because she bought me something without having to ask for it. So she made me take another test, but it was negative. And I got mad or whatever, so she told me I had to go see Addison and have her do some blood work. And boy am I glad I did." She grinned, taking the pictures back from her friend.
"Why didn't Callie look as excited as you are? And why all of the sudden you're so excited?" She asked as her friend was looking at the pictures.
"I've not told her yet. She thinks the results were negative." Arizona looked up from the paper. "Don't look at me like that, I didn't want to tell her over the phone."
"That is so mean." Teddy teased.
"No it's not, I'm going to surprise her on our anniversary, I just don't know how yet."
"I'm so excited for you guys." Teddy said hugging her friend.
"Thanks. I'm excited for us too." Arizona said, retaking her seat.
"There is no damn way you're going to be able to keep it from her that long." Teddy said, relaxing on the couch.
"Yes I can." She crossed her arms. "That's why I told you. I just needed to blurt it out to someone. I'm good now, I got this."
"Yeah, okay." Teddy scoffed.
"Shut up and have some confidence in me. It's going to be hard enough. Last time she noticed subtle changes in my body, she might this time too. So I need your vote of confidence, you ass."
"Okay, you got it. You can do this. But tell me, how are you going to tell her?" She said, kicking her feet up on the table in front the couch.
"I don't know, help me think of something." Arizona asked, leaning back in her chair and throwing her feet up on her desk.
"What are you doing for your anniversary?"
"I don't know, she informed me she was in charge of it so I stepped back and let her take the reigns. She wanted to go to Miami and spend the week at her dads hotel. I told her I didn't want to make a big deal about it. But knowing her we're going to Miami, which is fine by me."
"So, okay. Hmm.." Teddy said, giving it some thought. "How about you make her a cake that says, congratulations mommy?"
"I'd have to give it to her that morning. So no."
"You could wait until you're in Miami and out to dinner and have a cake brought to the table that says congratulations. She'd never expect it."
"Yeah, no. I need something more meaningful. Something more.. us." Arizona said, thinking about it.
"How about write it in a card."
"No!" She rolled her eyes.
"The river?"
"But if she has us flying to Miami, how am I going to get her to the river?"
"God." Teddy groaned. "You're killing me, quit shooting down my ideas."
"Quit giving me shitty suggestions." Arizona countered.
"How about writing it in the sky." Teddy said waving her hand above her head.
"Um.. Nah.. too cheesy."
"Yeah, maybe a little. How about... painting the baby's room and surprising her with it that morning?"
"Hmm.." Arizona thought about it. "I like that idea, but last time she talked about wanting to decorate together. I don't want to take that away from her."
"Yeah, maybe you're right. Do you have to tell her on your anniversary? Because you could just hang the pictures on the fridge? See how long it takes her to notice."
"Yes, I have too, That's the whole reason she doesn't know right now." Arizona said, thinking of something that she could do.
"Okay okay... How about booking an ultrasound appointment that morning and surprising her with it?"
"Keep talking..." She sat up in her seat. "That's it, Teds. I have the perfect plan and it is definitely so.. Us." She smiled.
"Let me hear it."
The next few weeks passed slowly for the blonde, she had caught herself several times almost slipping and telling her wife that they were expecting. One night she found herself holding Callie after the brunette had a rough day at work. After spending some quiet time in bed that night she just blurted it out, but her wife had luckily fell asleep. Which she was grateful for because she didn't want to spoil the surprise she had been working so hard on but at the time she just couldn't hold it in either.
Arizona hadn't had much morning sickness at all since she found out she was pregnant. The times it did hit, she was at work and didn't have to hide it from her wife. So all in all Callie was oblivious to her wife's pregnancy, but she did mention a time or two the blondes breasts were fuller. There had only been one time that Arizona had worried about her pregnancy during the three weeks. But after a quick visit with Addison during a break at work, she was given the all clear after a thorough check up by the red head.
Finally the day of their one year anniversary had arrived and Arizona had been up, practicing her surprise all morning. Callie had told her the night before to pack for a week, so she had woke up early to packed her bags along with the brunette for the next seven days.
After mastering her surprise, she went to make the brunette some breakfast before waking her up. Arizona had been waiting for this day for three long weeks and now that it was here she was nervous as hell. Taking a few deep breaths, she entered their bedroom where her sleeping wife still lied. "Calliope." She whispered, sitting the food down on the nightstand. The brunette was lying in the middle of the bed with her hair all sprawled out over the pillow. It was one of the most beautiful sights the blonde had ever seen. "Wakey, wakey." She whispered crawling into the bed, her wife not even stirring. Leaning down, she kissed red lips, latching onto them with a force causing her wife to stir. Deciding to take it a little further, she slipped her hand in her wife's shorts immediately finding brown curls.
"Mmmm." Callie moaned as she woke up to the best kiss in the world.
"Happy anniversary my baby." The blonde whispered into her lips as she dipped her fingers lower, meeting her wife's clit.
"Happy anniversary amor." Callie smiled before opening her eyes and wrapping her arms around the blondes neck for another passionate kiss. "Best year of my li.. life." She moaned when Arizona pinched at her clit.
Giggling and kissing Callie from her jaw to her ear. "I really should stop. I don't want your breakfast to get cold."
"Mmm, you really shouldn't." Callie whispered as she felt the blonde suck her earlobe in her mouth. "It can be reheated."
"So can you." She whispered as she slid her finger through wet folds.
"No.. It's my anniversary. I deserve this..." She said, bucking her hips on her wife's hand.
"Well what do I deserve?" Arizona whispered as she brought her wife closer to the edge.
"The world." Callie whispered, grabbing her wife's face and bringing her in for a passionate kiss.
"You've already gave me that." She whispered, pecking red lips again. "I'm conflicted right now though."
"With..." Callie mumbled feeling her wife circle her entrance. "With what?"
"Well I'm conflicted because I'm loving where this is going.." She said, slowly entering her wife. ".. but I really need to stop because we'll be late for your surprise. And we can't be a minute late for this." She said, curling her fingers inside of her wife.
"Please don't stop." Callie whined. "I promise, it won't take long." She said, bucking her hips.
"I know, I can feel you." Arizona said picking up for pace. "Was you having a good dream? Because you feel like it."
"I was dreaming about this busty redhead. She was so... Ouch." She jerked when the blonde pinched her again. "Okay it was a busty blonde." She smiled as she felt her wife slip her fingers inside again.
"It better have been me."
"Only you can make me this wet."
"Good to know. And I know you're right on the edge already." She said, bitting her bottom lip as she watched her wife wiggle beside of her. "You're hot."
"Arizona.." She whimpered. "I need to.."
"You want to come baby?" She asked feeling her wife's walls tighten around her fingers.
"Yea.." She breathed. "Make me co.. come. I need to come." She moaned, burying her face in her wife's neck.
"I love making you come like this.." Arizona whispered. "The way you wrap yourself around me as you hit your peak."
"Oh god." She panted, feeling her wife curl her fingers repeatedly inside of her. "I'm.. Oh god baby.."
"Come for me Calliope."she whispered, latching on to her wife's caramel neck.
"Oh god..." Callie moaned, falling over the edge when she felt her wife's thumb brush over her clit. "Ari.. zonna.." She grunted through her tightened jaws. "Oh god.." She breathed as her wife slowly brought her down from her high. "That was..."
"Hot." Arizona smiled, pulling back to look at her wife. "You're beautiful." She said, kissing her forehead.
"So are you."
"I know." Arizona said, flipping her hair.
"You're terrible." Callie laughed as she leaned up to kiss pink lips. "Best anniversary ever." She mumbled into her mouth.
"I can only hope I followed through with the vowels I promised you a year ago today."
"You have.. Ten fold." Callie whispered as her stomach growled.
"Hungry?" Arizona laughed.
"I am." She giggled. "I smell breakfast." The brunette said, rolling on her side to face her wife. Now that her mind wasn't clouded with sex she was aware of her surroundings.
"What's it smell like?"
"It smells like... Sex, pancakes and some... bacon." She said lifting her head off the pillow to see what the blonde had prepared. "Mmm, you're too good to me." She mumbled, taking a bite of her wife's flesh.
Giggling, "I may be." She said, swatting at her wife's roaming hands. "Stop that, you need to eat because we have somewhere to be in less than an hour."
"Ohh.. I can't wait to see what this surprise you've been working endlessly on." Callie asked, sitting up in the bed.
"Well, why don't you eat and then find out." Arizona winked, passing the tray of food over to her wife.
"This looks really good babe. Thank you!"
"You're welcome." She replied, eating a piece of her wife's bacon.
"Did you not fix yourself a plate?"
"No, I've been eating on it all morning." Arizona laughed. "You eat and then shower, quickly might I add and then get dressed. I need to run downstairs and clean up." Arizona said, getting out of the bed.
"You're not going to join me? You know.. So I can..." Callie said, wiggling her eyebrows.
"I've already took a shower." She said, leaning down to kiss her wife's cheek. "Now get your cute but in gear, we have to be leaving soon." She said, walking out of the room.
Practicing her surprise a few more times while she waited in her wife to get ready, Arizona went up to the guest bedroom and waited with Charlie and River. She thought this would be the perfect room for their baby. "Callie come here." She called out to her wife once she heard the brunette walk through the hallway upstairs. She was beginning to get nervous and she honestly had no idea why because she knew Callie would be over the moon.
"Where are you at babe?"
"Second guest room." She yelled out to her. "You ready guys?" She bent down and loved on the dogs as Callie walked into the room.
"What is it honey?" She asked, kneeling down with her wife to pet the dogs.
"You know I've been trying to teach them some tricks and I think they've finally caught on." She stood up and pulled out dog treats from her pocket. "Watch." Motioning for her wife to step out of the way Arizona went through a few simple tricks. "Sit." She pointed at the dogs. "Good boys." She petted them on the head and handed them a treat after the followed her command.
"Good job, babe." Callie watched on as Arizona told the dogs to lay down.
"Roll over." She motioned with her hands for them to roll over. "Good boys." She bent down and rewarded them again.
Laughing when the dogs licked her wife's face. "Heel heel.." She heard the blonde yell as the dogs continued to play with her.
"Boys." Callie laughed, calling them down.
"You guys want to show mommy your last trick?" She asked, patting their chests. Receiving a bark from the husky, Arizona stood up from the floor. "This is their best trick mommy, so pay close attention okay?" Arizona leaned over and kissed her wife's lips before walking further into the room turning to face the brunette.
"Okay." Callie laughed as the dogs followed her wife's every move. "You guys have all my attention." She said, crossing her arms and looking on.
"Okay boys. You ready?" Arizona said getting a bark from Charlie. "This is their last trick and I think we've perfected it." She smiled up at her grinning wife. Looking back to the dogs, "Where's the baby?" She asked, holding her hands out to the side. "Show mommy where the baby is."
Puzzled, Callie watched as River nestled his nose into the blondes lower stomach and Charlie sat in front of her wife and placed his paw on her stomach.
"Good boys." Arizona grinned widely, patting their heads and handing them their treat before looking towards her wife.
Knitting her eyebrows together. "You're.." She thought for a second. "No.." She gasped, shaking her head while tears pricked her eyes. "No." She covered her mouth up. Now that she thought about it, she did notice a few small changes within her wife. "How?" She fell to her knees in a fit of tears. "Really?"
"Yes Calliope, really." Arizona smiled, getting the reaction she hoped from her wife. "I think you know how." She walked up to the brunette.
"But.. the tests. They were all negative." She looked up into blue eyes as she gripped her wife's waist.
"They were, but the blood test wasn't." Arizona combed her fingers through brown hair. "I was sitting there bitching to Addison about how I thought we needed to take a break from trying and the next thing I know, I saw our baby on the screen." She pulled the ultrasound pictures from her back pocket. "I hope you're not mad, I wanted to wait and surprise you."
Looking at the pictures in awe, Callie couldn't believe they were really pregnant. "We're having a baby?" She was just so shocked.
"Yes sweetie. We're having a baby." Arizona confirmed with tears in her eyes as Callie hugged her around the waist and sobbed. "Calliope.." She chuckled through her own tears. She expected her wife to be happy and excited with some tears, but not a river running down her face.
"I can't believe it." Callie nestled the side of her face into her wife's body. She felt like she was dreaming because she had been longing for this day for so long.
"Well, believe it mommy." Arizona bent down and kissed the top of her wife's head.
Pulling back, Callie lifted her wife's shirt and placed several soft kisses on her belly. "Hey there, my sweet baby. It's mommy. I love you so so mu..much." She said between a light sob. "Mama and I are going to take good care of you, okay? All you have to do is grow big and strong and we'll worry about the rest." She whispered to the baby before kissing the blondes stomach again.
Kneeling down with her wife, Arizona wrapped her arms around the brunettes neck. "Happy Anniversary Calliope." She said, resting her forehead against the brunettes.
"I hope this was my surprise, because anything else is really going to suck compared to this?" She said, wiping her tears away only to be replaced with fresh ones.
"It is."
"Best. Surprise. Ever." She hugged her wife, burying her face in the crook of the blondes neck.
"Well, there's actually one more thing."
"I'm sure it isn't going to top this, nothing will." Callie said, leaning back on her heels.
"It won't, but it'll be close." Arizona smiled. "You want to know what it is?"
"Yes! Tell me?"
"We have an appointment with Addie in twenty minutes to hear the heartbeat."
"So we really did have somewhere to be."
"Yeah." Arizona laughed. "I've been working so hard with the boys to get this part perfect for you."
"It couldn't have been more perfect." Callie replied. "How far along are you?" She asked, not being able to do the math in her head from all the excitement.
"Seven weeks."
"And.. and how are you feeling? Everything good?" She asked nervously.
"I'm feeling amazing. I've had some morning sickness, but I've hid it pretty well from you." She laughed.
"Yeah, you have." She chuckled, wiping her eyes.
"No uhh... no pain?"
"I had some slight cramping last week so I kinda freaked a little and went to see Addison during work. But she said my uterus was just stretching and expanding. Other than that, everything's been perfect so far."
"But you.. you had your period a few weeks ago?"
"Yeah, I lied." Arizona had made it seem like she had her period because she didn't want her wife to catch on.
"That's so mean." Callie laughed. "You knew how hot I was for you and you turned me down."
"Oh believe me, it was hard. Since I've been pregnant I can't get enough of you." She grinned grabbing her wife's boobs. "Hints, me having my way with you this morning."
"I'm okay with that." Callie smiled, caressing her wife's stomach. "I just.. I can't believe you're pregnant."
"I know! When I found out, it took me a few days for it to really sink in." She said, placing her hand on top of Callie's. "I know it's highly unlikely but I can feel it wiggling."
"Really?"
"Yeah, it's like a light flutter. It's weird actually." She said, kissing red lips. "Well what do you say mommy. You ready to go see your baby?"
Tears escaping her eyes yet again when Arizona called her mommy, Callie nodded her head vigorously.
"Come on." Arizona stood from the floor and helped her wife up.
"I'll put the boys out and we can go." Callie said, still kind of in shock from the news.
The whole trip to the hospital, Callie never broke contact with her wife. Holding the blondes hand with her left and the ultrasound picture in her right, she never took her eyes off the little blob.
Her mind still reeling from Arizona's news. "You know my present for you is going to seem like crap compared to yours." Callie said as they road up the elevator to Arizona's appointment.
"Not true, you already gave me my present." She said, cupping her stomach. "Anything else is just a bonus." Arizona loved how excited her wife was about her news. She knew Callie would be an exceptional mom.
"God." Callie said, wiping her eyes. "I swear I think I'm going to be the hormone casserole your whole pregnancy."
"You'll be okay. You just need time for the news to sink in." Arizona said, leading them to Addison's office. "I've had my fair share of hormonal days. I've wrecked havoc on Teddy at work lately." She laughed.
"She knows?"
"Yeah." Arizona glanced at her wife. "I had to tell someone, I couldn't keep it in. You're not mad are you?"
"No. I loved that you did that. I got the element of surprise that a man gets. It was pretty awesome."
"I'm glad."
Walking into the ward, Callie and Arizona were placed in a room in no time because Addison knew they had a flight to catch soon after the appointment. No sooner than Arizona hopped up on the bed, the red headed doctor was walking through the door.
"Well, how did it go?" Addison grinned.
"Perfect." Arizona replied, laying back on the bed.
Nodding, Callie couldn't speak, she only grinned ear to ear. "I've rendered her speechless." Arizona laughed, patting her wife's cheeks.
"Well let's see how this little dumpling is doing, shall we?" Addison said, pulling over the ultrasound machine. Squirting the gel on the blondes stomach, Addison worked her magic.
"This is really happening." Callie said, looking down towards her wife. She couldn't take her eyes off the blonde the whole time.
"It's really happening baby." Arizona giggled. "I'm so excited."
"Me too." Callie leaned down and kissed her wife.
"Okay Cal, here's your baby." Addison said, turning the screen towards them.
Hey eyes never leaving the screen. "Is it healthy? Everything's okay right?" She needed confirmation.
"See for yourself." The doctor said, blaring the heartbeat through the room.
Hearing the heart beat, both blue and brown eyes filled with tears. Neither one could really say anything as they stared at the screen watching their baby move around. "That's a strong heartbeat." It was times like this that made her absolutely love her job. All the heartbreak she sees couples go through is well worth it when she watches a couple hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time.
"Ar.." She said, wiping her face. "Arizona said she could feel the baby wiggling around. Is that possible?"
"It's likely her uterus stretching, but it's possible it's the baby. It's still technically an embryo right now, but the arms and legs are already forming. If you look right here, you may be able to see." Addison said pointing at the screen.
"I can't tell." Callie said, leaning closer to the screen. "Can you babe?"
"I think so, looks like little pudgy stems." She grinned.
"Yeah, they do." Addison agreed. "You're baby's now forming eyelids also."
"This is so amazing." She grinned pulling out her phone. "Can I record the heartbeat?" Callie asked her friend.
"Sure, you can do anything you want. Let me turn it up some more." She said as Callie took an audio clip of their baby's heartbeat. "You're seven weeks and three days, but the baby's measuring about eight weeks and five days and heathy as can be."
"Good job baby." Callie said after leaning down close to the blondes stomach. "Keep it up." She said, receiving a chuckled from her wife as the blonde combed her fingers threw brown hair.
"So, best Anniversary present ever?" Addie asked printing out multiple pictures for her friends.
"Best present of my life." She said, kissing her wife's hand.
"I couldn't agree more." Arizona smiled, as Addison wiped the gel off the blondes stomach.
"You guys have any questions or anything?"
"No." The blonde replied as Callie shook her head.
"Okay, well I'll see you guys back here in about a month and if you need anything just give me a call." Addison said walking towards the door.
"Wait, we're going to Miami in a few hours. Is she okay to fly?"
"She'll be fine." Addison said, leaving the couple in the room.
"Crap. She didn't tell us the due date?" Callie said, pulling her wife's short up. "What kind of doctor is she?"
"It's May 20th. But she said, it's likely to change a day or two."
"Oh my gosh, we're going to be parents." Callie sit down in the stood by the bed as the news started to sink in.
"We are." Arizona couldn't get enough of Callie's excitement and she was eating every second of it up.
"I love you both.." The brunette said, leaning down and kissing the blondes stomach. "So so much, Arizona." She said, then kissing her wife's pink lips.
"We love you too Mommy, to the moon and back." Arizona smiled, standing from the bed and embracing her wife.
Awe... YEY!
