Chapter 86

Their first two days in Miami were spent taking in the sites that they had never got to explore while visiting the last few times. They ended the days with some window shopping and romantic dinners at two of the topnotch restaurants in Miami as Callie promised.

The third day was spent mostly in the penthouse suite because of rain, but neither disappointed, as they spent the biggest part of the day naked in each other's arms. By late afternoon the rain calmed and the girls spent another evening just exploring the city and enjoying a nice quiet beachfront dinner.

Today was their fourth morning in Miami and their little vacation was slowly winding down. After lunch the two were going to surprise Callie's parents with a visit before heading back to Seattle in the morning. Callie was feeling better and better about the news of the pregnancy since learning Monday they were expecting. She had been scared at first, but seeing her wife glowing and truly happy throughout these days, Callie herself couldn't contain her excitement either. The past three mornings she had woken up before the blonde and had a little talk with the tiny tiny human growing inside of her belly. The blonde had yet to catch her and it seemed today was no different.

"Hello in there." Callie whispered, her lips brushing against her wife's soft belly. She had just situated herself between Arizona's legs to talk to the baby. "Good morning, baby. It's me.. your mommy." She said, in a singsong voice. She wanted the baby to be familiar with her voice just as much as her wife's. "I don't know what I should call you? You're going to be growing fast and I can't keep calling you a little blob. I could call you monkey. But what if you're a girl? I could just call you mommy's little love bug?" She said, kissing her wife just below her bellybutton. "Grandpa and Grandma calls your mama bug, but that's because she use to have some kinda weird thing for bugs or so I hear. But maybe you could be my love bug? How's that sound?" She said, rubbing her wife's stomach and pausing, like she was waiting for the baby to reply. "You like it? I think so too. Mommy is going to read you and Mama stories every single night. I'll probably get on Mama's nerves talking to you so much, but she'll deal. Do you know why? Because she loves us, so much." Callie said kissing her wife's stomach again. "Don't you mama?" She said, pulling the cover down to gaze up at her wife. She could tell by the blondes breathing that she was awake.

Blushing when Callie caught her. "I do, more than you both will ever know." She said, lacing her hand with the brunettes. Arizona had woken from her sleep just as Callie started talking to the baby and she couldn't bring herself to let her wife know she was listening. She knew the brunette just wanted to have some baby time so she laid there still as she could, enjoying listening to her sweet wife.

"See love bug." Callie said taking her index finger and circling it around her wife's bellybutton. "She really loves us." Callie laughed, crawling up her wife. "Morning gorgeous." She said, pecking pink lips before laying beside her.

"Busted." Arizona laughed, snuggling into her wife's side. "Mmm.. morning."

"Did you sleep well?" Callie said, cradling her wife.

"Like a baby."

"So you were up every few hours?"

"Okay, I sleep like a teenager." Arizona laughed.

"Can I tell you something and you not take it the wrong way?" Callie asked. She didn't want her wife to be offended by this and she knew Arizona could tend to get a little emotional just like last time she was pregnant.

"Yeah."

"You're starting to show. It's just the tiniest little bump, but I can see it. I know your body better than anyone, and when you told me Monday that you were pregnant, I would have never guessed it. But this morning.. only five days later.. I can see it."

"Really?" Arizona tried to hide her smile as she looked down to her stomach. "You know, it was barely noticeable but my jeans did fit just a tad snug yesterday. I thought it was from all the room service we had ordered for breakfast, but it felt snug all day."

"Yeah." Callie smiled, rubbing her wife's belly. "I can't wait to see you with a baby bump, I'm sure you will be so stunning."

"Thanks." She blushed. "You ready for today?"

"Yep." Callie nodded. Arizona was now eight weeks pregnant today and she couldn't wait to tell her family their exciting news. "How should we tell them?"

"Hmm.. I don't know." Arizona said, thinking about some of the ideas Teddy kept shooting off to her a few weeks ago. "We could go out to dinner and have a cake brought to the table that says 'Congrats on being grandparents?"

"I don't want to make a big fuss in public though. I'd rather it be at home." Callie said, lightly drawing patters on her wife's arms with her fingertips.

"You could just tell them we had some pictures taken and hand them ultrasound pictures."

"Wait.. what about going down to that t-shirt shop we stopped at yesterday and having t-shirts made with the ultrasound picture on it for all of them? They could say 'Soon to be Abuelo' for my dad and then do one of my mother, Aria, James and Nana? And then get some for your mom and dad too?"

"I think that's a great idea." Arizona agreed. "And that way they all have a picture too."

"Lets have you a shirt made that says something like 'I'm growing a human what are you doing?' We'll see how long it takes them to catch on and then we'll give them their shirts?"

"Whatever you want babe. I'm up for anything. But your parents love hot brewed tea and iced tea, right." Arizona said, leaning up on her elbow.

"Yeah."

"Let's have one made that has a steaming cup of tea on the belly of the shirt and have 'baby brewin' written over top it?"

"Yeah." Callie laughed. "That's a great idea.

"You know what else is a great idea?"

"What else?"

"Having a shower, because you smell like sex." Arizona laughed, sniffing her wife again. "And then we're having breakfast, I'm starving."

"We can't have that now can we?" Callie rose out of bed.

"Nope and you can't forget." She said pointing at her wife. "You missy have to rub me down in coco butter before we leave for breakfast." Arizona said, getting up out of bed also.

"Yes dear." Callie called out on her way to the bathroom.

After a long and very pleasing shower, they went to a little café down the street from the hotel and had a nice breakfast before heading to the t-shirt shop. Arizona had changed her mind on the design of her shirt at least three different times before finally choosing a design. After purchasing nine shirts, because the blonde insisted if she had to wear a shirt so did her wife, they made their way back to the hotel to grab their bags and head to Callie's parents.

Pulling up to the estate, Callie's phone started to ring as she typed in the code to be let in the gate. "Is that?" Arizona asked, picking her wife's phone up.

"Yeah." Callie gave her a shy smile. Right after the ultrasound Arizona had surprised her with she had sat the baby's heartbeat as her ringtone on the phone. "If it's Mark, please don't answer it." She said as Arizona accepted the call. "No I don't wanna deal.." Callie rolled her eyes.

"What now Mark?" Arizona asked not giving him a proper greeting. He had been calling Callie for the past day and a half needing her advice. "No you can't." She paused. "Because, I am trying to enjoy my last day of vacation in Miami with MY wife, but I can't because you keep texting her with your bull shit." She growled into the phone. "Suck it Mark." She hung up the phone and handed it to her wife. "If he calls one more time I swear to.." She couldn't even finish before the phone began to ring again.

"What, Mark? What?" Callie angrily said through the phone. "No. It's not my place to talk to Lexie for you. That was years ago Mark." She rolled her eyes when he tried to make her feel guilty for all the times he helped her in her failed relationships. "Mark listen okay?" she said, seeing her wife was getting pissed. "I'm on vacation with my wife. Today is our last day and I want to spend it with her without having to text you all day." She said, getting out of the car when it pulled up to her parents front door. "No. No. I will talk and I will listen to you when I get home. But I will not talk to Lexie for you." She said, holding out her hand to help her wife out of the car. "Listen. I have bigger things on my plate right now than you getting caught fucking some nurse." She said, taking their bags from the driver. "No, it's none of your business what it is. You made your bed, now lie in it. And by the way, if you call me one more time before I get back home I swear to god Mark, I will set Lexie up with every available man in Seattle." She said, finally hanging up on her friend.

"Who does he think you are?" Arizona asked, taking her wife's hand.

"I don't know, he's the least off my worries right now."

"Are you worried about telling your parents?"

"No. No." Callie shook her head. "Not at all, I'm excited." She said, kissing her wife's knuckles. "You ready?"

"Yep." Arizona said, making sure her light jacket was zipped up to hide her shirt until they were ready to tell Carlos and Lucia the news.

"I hope they're home." They usually don't work much on Fridays. I hope this is one of those times." Callie said knocking on the door.

"If they are it just gives us some time to tell Maria first." Arizona said just as the woman they were talking about opened the door.

"My girls." Maria gasped when she saw Callie and Arizona.

"Surprise." Callie smiled, hugging her grandma.

"What a great surprise." Maria said, hugging Arizona next.

"Are Mami and Papi here?"

"Yes, they are outside finishing up their lunch." Maria waved them in. "You girls want some lunch? There's plenty."

"No, we ate before we came."

"Speak for yourself, Calliope." Arizona nudged her. "What's on the menu?" She asked the older woman.

"BLT's"

"I'll have some lunch."

"You just ate." Callie whispered to her wife as they walked in.

"I am growing your tiny human inside of me. If the baby wants bacon, it should get bacon." She whispered to her wife.

"I'll make you a sandwich my love." Callie smiled at her before sitting the bags down in the corner and walking into the kitchen to please her wife's craving.

The other two women followed Callie in the kitchen as she made her wife some more lunch. "So what are you two doing here? Are you staying a while?" Maria asked, taking a seat at the counter.

"We're only here for the night, Nana. I'm sorry. We've been celebrating our anniversary and we stopped by with some exciting news."

"Where did you spend your anniversary?" She questioned.

Knowing if her Nana found out they were staying in town without stopping to see them she would hear an ear full from the older woman. "The Torres Estates." She mumbled.

"Where was that?"

"Daddies hotel, Nana. And before you say anything. I wanted to spend a few days with my wife.. alone. So please don't make me feel bad for it." Callie said, handing Arizona her food.

"I'll let it go this time." Maria said, crossing her arms.

"Oh no." Arizona said, putting the sandwich down. "Did you put.." She darted up from her seat and ran to the closest bathroom.

"What's her problem?" Maria asked watching her hurry out of the room.

"Lettuce." Callie sighed. "I forgot, of all things, she can't stomach it right now." She said, following her wife. The blonde learned just the other day when they had lunch at a beachside cafe that lettuce wasn't the baby's cup of tea. "Arizona?" She knocked on the door. "You okay sweetie?" she asked, trying the knob.

"You did that on purpose." Arizona moaned.

"I didn't honey. I'm so sorry. I just wasn't thinking. Pleases let me in." She said, hearing her wife empty her stomach into the toilet again.

Maria watched at the whole scene take place. After a few seconds her granddaughter disappeared behind the bathroom door where the blonde was. Walking back into the kitchen, she waited patiently for the couple to come back. "Everything okay?" She asked, as the couple walked back into the room just a few minutes later.

"Yeah, everything's fine." Arizona smiled as Callie took her sandwich and made her another without the green stuff.

"Good.. good." Maria nodded, watching the two. "So when are you due?"

"What?" The blonde looked up.

"How did you?" Callie asked, laying her wife's food in front of her again.

"She's glowing." Maria smiled.

"See I told you." Callie said, kissing the blonde on top of her head.

"So this is your exciting news."

"Yeah." Arizona looked up at her and smiled.

"How far along are you."

"Eight weeks today." Arizona confirmed.

"Well congratulations. You guys deserve it." Maria stood from her seat and hugged the brunette. "I'm so happy for you two." She said, hugging Arizona. "You doing okay?"

"Yeah. I'm doing great." Arizona said, returning the hug.

"Good.. Good." Maria kissed her cheek. "I'm so excited." She said, letting her go. "Can I?"

"Yeah." Arizona laughed when Maria rubbed her stomach.

Callie was having a hard time wiping the huge grin off her face when she saw Arizona and her grandma fussing over her pregnancy. "I hate to break up this love fest, but we have a few more people to surprise." She said, taking her wife's hand.

"Let me take my jacket off before they see me." Arizona said, unzipping it and laying it to the side.

Walking out to the veranda, Carlos nor Lucia noticed them at first. "What's a girl got to do to get some attention around here." Callie said, getting her parents attention.

"Mija."

"Calliope, Arizona." Carlos said, standing up to greet them.

"What are you guys doing here?" Lucia stood to welcome them.

"We've been celebrating our anniversary and we thought we'd stop by for a night before we head home."

"Well I'm glad. How was your first anniversary?" She asked.

"It was amazing." Arizona smiled at her.

"That's fantastic." She said, taking her seat again.

They spent several hours catching up, the whole time, Arizona and Callie had anxiously waited for Carlos or Lucia to catch on to their surprise. Evidently the blondes shirt was a little hard for them to understand, if they even tried too. They decided to wait around for Aria to show up so they could tell them all at once.

"Arizona, my dear." Carlos addressed her. They had all gathered around the family room before they left for dinner.

"Yes, sir?"

"I have been trying for the past hour to figure out what your shirt means and I'm stumped."

"Oh." Arizona actually hadn't thought about it recently. "Umm.." She looked to her wife.

"What do you think it says daddy?" Callie questioned, leaning up in her seat.

"That's why I'm asking, Calliope."

"Stand up and let us see Z." Aria said, from across the room. She had just came over after work.

Standing from her seat, Arizona smoothed out her shirt for the others to read. Looking across the room, she watched as Callie's smile lite up the room.

"P-R an egg, the letter N and an ant?" Lucia said, confused. "Does it even really mean anything?"

"Yes, Mami." Callie said, walking over to her wife. "We have a surprise for you and the shirt says it all."

"But what does an egg and an insect have to do with it?" Carlos asked, trying his best to be the first to figure it out.

"No." Aria came closer to make sure she was reading it right. "Shut up!" She said, covering her mouth.

"What?" Lucia said, still trying to figure it out.

"Mami, seriously?" Aria questioned. "You're a lawyer. Your cases are so much harder than this." She told her mother. "I'm right.. Right?" She questioned her sister. She didn't want to blurt it out in case she wasn't correct, but she could tell with the smile on her sister and sister in laws face that she was certain. "Oh my god." She said, trying to keep her excitement in until the others figured it out.

"PR, egg, N, ant." Carlos said, still trying to figure it out.

"Sound it out Daddy." Callie said, hoping everyone would catch on. Yet again, Carlos and Lucia were still confused. "Okay I have a gift for you guys, maybe that'll help." Callie said, grabbing the bags in the next room and handing them out to her parents, sister and aunt. "James coming?" She asked Aria

"No, he's working late." She grinned.

"Well, you can give him his later." Callie said, taking her place by her wife just as her parents opened the gift bags.

Watching as her parents face dropped and a squeal escaped her mothers mouth. "I'm going to be an Abuela?" Lucia read, jumping up from her seat after reading her shirt.

"Yeah, Mami." Callie smiled before noticing her father. "What's wrong daddy?" She asked him when she saw him wipe his face.

"Nothing.. nothing Mija. I'm just excited that's all." He said, taking his blazer off to put his new shirt on.

Questions were thrown at both women about the pregnancy for more thirty minutes. Arizona and Callie answering each one. Their miscarriage was brought up but Lucia, apparently Maria had let it slip not long ago about the couples unfortunate mishap. Callie explained to her family why she felt the need to keep it private, she didn't want them hovering around when they were trying to pick up the pieces. When the questions died down, Carlos excused himself to step outside for a cigar before they left for dinner.

Arizona had took this opportunity to speak to her father in law alone. Excusing herself from the other women in the family room, she went in search for the man outside.

"Carlos?"

Turning when he heard his daughter in law, putting the cigar out when she stood beside him. "Arizona."

"Hey. Don't put that out on my account."

"I can't let my grandchild be around this smoke." He said, putting his stogie out and sliding it in his pocket. "I'd be a terrible Abuelo." He chuckled.

"That shirt looks good on you."

"I think so too, if I do say so myself." He said straightening his shirt.

"You have a minute? I'd like to talk to you about something?"

"Sure. Is something wrong?"

"No. Not technically anyway. Can we.. have a seat?" Arizona asked, turning to the bench behind them.

"Ladies first." He said leading her to sit down.

"I need some help." She said, looking up to him. "It would be so easy to put Callie as the second parent on the birth certificate when we have this baby, but in all reality, I can't. And it's not fair, because this baby is as much hers and it is mine. Just because it will have my DNA doesn't mean that Callie isn't it's mother. And it sucks.. It really really sucks." She said, shaking her head. "We've talked about it before. If something were to happen to me and this baby lived, she wouldn't be considered it's mother. She wouldn't have any rights to this baby. My parents would probably get the baby legally and I know they'd never take the baby from Callie, but I know her. It has to weigh heavy in the back of her mind because I know it does mine. We talked about that the first time I was pregnant. And I promised her then, that I would do whatever I had to do to make sure that in the eyes of the law, she is this baby's mother."

"I can help you with that." He said, putting his arm around her. "Neither of you should worry. I will do everything in my power to make sure that no one ever questions her parenthood." He said assuring her. "Please don't worry Arizona. All that matters is you and Callie know in your heart who this baby belongs too. You leave the rest to me." He said, kissing her on the forehead.

"Go tell our women the car is ready to take us to dinner."

"Thank you Carlos." Arizona said, hugging him before she left to get her wife.

"How have you both been doing since the uhh.." Lucia hesitated with daughter. She had finally had a few minutes of alone time to talk to her personally.

"You can say it Mami. Miscarriage isn't a bad word."

"I know, Mija. Sometimes it's a touchy subject though."

Nodding. "We're doing good. It was a few tough weeks for Arizona and myself. It broke my heart seeing her like that. There were some days that she couldn't even get out of bed, let alone go to work. And there were some days that I went to work when I shouldn't have. It was hard." She said, staring out towards the fireplace, thinking back to those first few weeks. "But we got through it, stronger than ever." She smiled sadly at her mother.

"I'm sorry, honey." Lucia said, hugging her daughter.

"Don't cry Mami." Callie said returning the hug. "We're okay."

"I know you are sweetheart. But you'll understand when you have this baby. It doesn't matter if you're two or fifty-two. A mother can't stand seeing her child hurting."

"I know." Callie hugged her tighter. "We're okay now though. It's something that's going to stay in the back of our minds forever but we've learned that we have to move on from it or it could destroy us."

"I'm so proud of you." She said, letting go of Callie. "You've grown up to be such an amazing woman and wife."

"I've had some amazing people to learn from."

"Hey you two." Arizona said, poking her head in the living room. "Everything alright?" She asked, feeling the heaviness in the room.

"Yeah. We're perfect." Callie smiled at her.

"Your dad wanted me to let you both know the car is here to take us to dinner." She said, walking up to them.

"I have to go to the restroom before we leave." Lucia said, wiping her face. "If you'll excuse me."

"Is she okay?"

"Yeah, she's okay, she was asking about the miscarriage. She just wants to make sure we're alright." Callie said, wrapping her arm around her wife.

"I get it." Arizona said, resting her head on her wife's shoulder.

"You hungry?"

"God I'm starving." She said, rubbing her stomach. "This baby's going to make me fat Callie."

"No it's not, you're eating for two. But so what if it does. I didn't marry you because you were skinny."

"What did you marry me for then?"

"Your ass and magnificent rack." Callie laughed, squeezing her wife's butt. "Come on, I need to feed my babies." She said, pecking her wife on the lips.
