Chapter 99
"Callie." Mark and Lexie knelt down to the sobbing brunette. "Come on.." He looked at his girlfriend and nodded so they both could lift her up off the street after they had gave her a minute to fall apart.
"Tell me." She cried, her hands covering her face. "Tell me she's not gone... I can't make it without her.. I won't.. I won't." She shook her head.
"No. No she's not." He reassured her. "She's not."
"Ma'am." The officer walked up to the disheveled woman after her friends picked her off the street. "We need to ask you a few questions since you are the home owner." He stated as if the woman was coherent enough to talk.
"No." Callie growled, jerking her arms out of Mark and Lexie's hold. She couldn't believe that the man was so insincere about the situation she was in right now. "I have to go, I have to get to my wife." She took off to her jeep.
"Callie no. You can't drive like this." Lexie yelled, all of them running after her.
"Mrs. Robbins. I need to ask you a few questions." He cornered her.
"Listen." Mark shoved the officer back. "I'm sorry." He held his hands up when he seen the officer reach for his cuffs. "I'm sorry." He said again, not meaning to get forceful. "It's just that everyone's emotions are at a all time high. Can't you see she's in no shape to talk. She needs to get to her pregnant wife. She can answer any questions you have for her after she knows her wife and baby are okay."
Meanwhile, his girlfriend was fighting with his best friend, trying to stop her from leaving by herself. "Callie no." She said, pulling the keys out of the ignition when the brunette jumped in the seat.
"Let me go." She yelled when the other woman grabbed her hands to stop her.
"Look at me Callie." Lexie growled, trying to get some control over the Latina.
Seeing the sympathy in Lexie's eyes, she was about to go crazy. She didn't know what was going on around her, all she could think about was getting to her wife as quickly as possible. "I can't do this..." She cried, resting her head on the steering wheel when her friend let go of her. "I need her."
"It's okay, Callie." She wrapped the brunette up in a hug. "Mark will take you to her. Arizona told me not to let you drive, don't give her something else to worry about. Mark will take you and I'll stay until the vet gets here and checks on the dogs."
"You... She talked?" Callie looked up when she heard that her wife didn't want her driving to the hospital. "She's awake?" she said with a slight glimmer of hope. "She's okay?"
"She's awake. She's very upset and in shock, but she's awake. Let's get you to her okay." Mark said, walking up to the drivers door where his girlfriend consoled the woman. "Let me in." He said, causing Callie to slide over in the passenger seat of Arizona's blue jeep.
"Tell me now.. what happened?" She said, bent over crying in the passenger seat.
"Your dogs are hurt, I'll stay until the vet gets here." Lexie told Callie, leaving the rest for Mark to tell her. "Then I'll met you at the hospital." She told her boyfriend.
"Okay." Mark took the keys from her, stared the jeep and pulled out of the driveway with his inconsolable best friend. "Callie, you need to calm down, okay?" He reached over and rubbed her shoulder, he had no clue how she would take the news of her wife's attack.
"Tell me..." She looked up at the road. "Tell me she'll be okay... she has to be okay, Mark. I... I can't live without her. I can't."
"She is. Blonde's okay. She even cracked a joke before they took her out to the ambulance. She's okay." He reassured her, even though he really didn't know the extent of Arizona's health.
"Okay.." Callie took a few deep breaths, her body involuntary shaking. "Okay.. okay.." She repeated rocking herself in her seat as she tried to convince herself everything was fine. "I'm going to ask one more time before I lose my shit. What happened?"
"You mean this isn't you losing your shit?" He teased, trying to calm her down.
"MARK!"
"Okay." Mark said, trying to figure out what to tell her first. "She was attacked by Erica."
"Erica?" She snapped her head up. "Erica was at my house?" She said in between tears.
"She was in the back of the other ambulance when we left." Mark said, speeding down the streets, seeing the lights from the hospital already in view, silently thanking God that there was no traffic on this Sunday night.
"Why would she do that? I though we were okay." She said, as he pulled down the same street the hospital was on.
"All I know is.." He paused, trying to think of a way to say this. "Callie.. she tried to cut the baby out of Arizona."
"Oh god." She started shaking again. "Oh god.." She pushed the door of the jeep open just in time because all the contents of her stomach came barreling up. Making sure her stomach had settled after heaving a few times, she looked up and ran for the entrance of the hospital needing to see her wife. All that kept playing in her mind was that if something happened to Arizona or her Charlee she wouldn't make it, not this time.
"Callie wait." Mark said as she bolted in the building. "Damn it." He hissed, knowing she would flip her lid when she found out Arizona couldn't move. Quickly pulling the car into a parking spot, he dashed out to find his best friend.
Running through the double doors of the pit, Callie looked around, not seeing her wife anywhere. "Where is she?" She yelled, seeing Chief Webber by the ER board. "Someone tell me." She yelled, causing a scene in front of the staff.
"Torres." Webber said, standing near the ER board, seeing the fear in the woman's eyes.
"Tell me Richard."
"They're checking her out." He quickly walked up to her.
"Who." She slung his arm off her. "Addison." She yelled before he could answer. "Get her here now." She demanded. "Call her. Get her on the first flight back here now." She cried.
"She's here Torres. She's here." Webber said, grabbing the shaking woman and leading her down the hallway out of view of prying eyes. "Montgomery had just landed when we called her. She's here and Arizona is already in her care."
"Take me! Where are they?" She looked up at her old superior, tears hadn't ceased from her face since she saw the cops surrounding her home.
"They're upstairs, I have Bailey, Grey and Yang with her to make her more comfortable." He said, letting the woman go. "She's pretty shaken up so I figured I'd call people she trusted in to work on her case."
"What's going on. Is she okay? The baby?"
"You..." He realized, Callie was clueless to what was going on. "No one has told you what happened?"
"Mark said Erica attacked her. That's all I know."
"Yeah." Richard nodded. "Why don't you come with me."
"No!" She backed away. "What do you people not get? I need to see her." She turned and ran for the elevator.
"Torres."
"It's Robbins." She turned and spat at him as she scurried.
"Stop her Hunt." He yelled at Owen who was walking out of a room.
"Hey, hey, hey." Owen tried to catch her as she stormed passed him and ran straight in to the elevator car.
Looking at each other, Owen and Webber dashed to the stairs to stop Callie from barging in on Addison as she checked the blonde out.
Running up the steps, they busted through the door just as Callie was running down the maternity ward halls. "Grab her." Webber yelled.
"Torres. Hey, hey.." Owen wrapped his arms around the brunette. "Let them work." He tried to console her in his arms, picking her up from the ground as she tried to kick out of his hold.
She didn't want to hear any of it, all she could think about was getting to the love of her life no matter who got in her way. "LET GO OF ME." She screamed, trying her best to fight him off. "Arizona..." She yelled, hoping her wife would hear her. "I'm here baby. I'm here."
Looking towards Webber, Owen pulled Callie into the lounge when the Chief of surgery opened the door.
"Why are you keeping me from her. She needs me." She cried beating Owen on the chest.
"Callie.." Owen tried. "Callie." He put her down and grabbed ahold of her arms. "Get ahold of yourself." He shook her. "She doesn't need you right now." He yelled right back. "Look at yourself. She doesn't need to see you like this. Get yourself together."
"I can't.." Her knees buckled. "How am I suppose to get ahold of myself when some psychotic idiot tried to steal my baby right out of my wife's body." She cried. "Tell me.. How am I suppose to act?"
Just then, Owens pager sounded through the room so Webber stepped in and took over for Owen. "Listen Callie." He said, taking the Latina in his arms as Hunt quietly left. "We don't know the extent of Arizona's injuries or even if she has any." Richard said, caressing his hand down the brunettes head, trying to calm her. "Someone did try to cut the baby out, but they didn't succeed. She only has a small cut that will need just a few stitches." He said softly trying to comfort her. "When she got here, she said she hadn't felt the baby move since she was injected, so Addison is running some tests to see if..."
"Injected? Wha.. what do you mean?" Callie looked up at him. "Is Charlee... no, she's got to be okay. Please, nothing can happen to her, Richard. She's so little and helpless, I'm her mommy, I'm suppose to protect her. I can't do that if you wont let me go to them."
"Not yet Callie."
"Why would someone want to hurt them?" She had so many questions, but the only thing she could really focus on is the state of her wife and baby right now.
"I don't know... I don't know honey." He guided her to the sofa. "Come sit down."
"Please, just let me go see her. I have to know if my girls are okay, then I'll do what ever you want, I promise."
"Callie." He interrupted her. "You weren't home, right?"
"No." She shook her head and wiped her wet eyes.
"I need to prepare you before you see your wife. She's already upset, disheveled and hearing you yelling and screaming at everyone will not do her or your little girl any good."
"Prepare me?" She shook her head and wiped her tears. "Mark and Lexie said she's okay."
"She's awake, alert and she's answering questions."
"So what's the problem. Why can't I see her?" She whispered.
Taking a deep breath, he decided to just put it out there. "She's paralyzed from the neck down."
"Wha... No." Callie shook her head. "No. That... No. What do you mean?" She sobbed into Richards side.
"Erica had injected a paralytic in her to take the baby. Other than that and her small cut, she's okay for now. We don't know what kind of drug it was exactly so Addison is doing tests to make sure she and the baby are okay."
"Why would someone be so cruel." She cried for her wife and baby. "I need to see them. Please."
"I'll let you see them, but only when you calm yourself." He said, consoling the upset brunette for several more minutes.
Callie kept imagining the scene over and over in her head. She wondered if her wife had to beg for her life, if she pleaded for their baby. "I'm okay." She finally whispered, wiping her face.
"Addison is suppose to page 911 when she's finished. Why don't we take a walk and get you something to drink. You need it."
"I'm fine.." She sat up, nervously bouncing her legs. "I don't need anything." She said, watching the time on the walk slowly go by.
"You're not fine Torres. Some crazy lunatic attacked your wife and tried to steal your baby. It's okay to be not fine. But what's not okay is you running around the halls of my hospital shouting at people." He stood from the couch. "Now show me that you can keep yourself cool, calm and collective." He said holding out his hand.
"Can I see her now, please?" She looked up with begging eyes.
"Torres." He sighed. He didn't want her to go in there and upset Arizona more with her crying while Addison ran her tests so he figured it was best to wait. He knew both woman would be highly upset when they saw each other again. "Let's go for a walk and get you some water and then I'll allow you to see her."
After buying the brunette and himself a bottle of water in the cafeteria, Richard suggested to take a walk around the catwalk before making their way back upstairs. Walking into the main lobby of the hospital, Callie froze at the sight of all their family and friends that had gathered around. Seeing her mother, grandmother, sister along with Daniel and Barbara and their other friends caused her to turn back and leave the area before being seen. She didn't know how they all found out, it wasn't that she didn't appreciated their love and support, but she just wasn't ready to see or talk to anyone except her wife. "I can't." She whispered to the Chief as he followed her. "If I see them I'll fall apart again. I can't." Tears wailed up in her eyes again.
"Okay. How about you stay here and I'll go let them know what's going on?"
"Okay." Callie nervously fumbled with her necklace. "Tell them I'll come see them later... after I see her."
"Okay." Richard put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You'll be alright here by yourself?" He asked getting a nod. "I'll be back in a few minutes. Don't move." He gave her his Chief glare.
Nodding, Callie watched through the doors as Webber walked up to her people. Hearing whispers and giggles down the hall, Callie turned and saw a cop standing near a trauma bay. Her heart felt like it was going to explode out of her chest when she thought of who he could be standing by for. Seeing the cop walking to the desk to flirt with a nurse, she took it upon herself to see who was behind the curtain. Before she even really registered what she was doing, Callie quietly snuck behind the cop and dipped behind the curtain seeing exactly who she was hoping to find. Erica was lying on the small gurney with her arms wrapped up in bandages. The brunettes mind raced with a hundred of different things that she wanted to do to the injured woman, but her words from long ago kept ringing through her head.
"Fuck being the bigger person." She whispered to herself, kicking the foot of the bed, causing the blonde doctor to dart up. Her wrists were restrained to the bed like the crazy person she was. "Surprise." Callie sounded evil when she smiled at her old friend. Fighting her inner self as long as she could because she couldn't help but see red when she looked at Erica. Before she knew it, she was on top of the blonde throwing punch after punch in her face, blood flying with every hit. She was getting her frustrations out for all the fights she had caused between her and her wife before they got married. All she could think of was her blonde lying helpless while Erica wielded her power overtop her and her baby. "How does it fucking feel, you bitch?" She growled. "Now you're the one whose helpless. You will pay for touching my family." She spat, tears streaming down her face. "I will fucking kill you. Who the fuck do you think you are?" She grabbed the woman's neck started chocking her. Callie felt so much anger take over her body and she wouldn't have even recognized herself or the blonde who was turning blue from the lack of oxygen.
"He...lp.." Erica tried to rasp, barely audible while she pulled at her restraints trying to break free to push the brunette off.
"Callie." Derek yelled when he poked his head in behind the curtain, breaking the brunette out of her rage. He had been walking by and heard a commotion in the room. Seeing the brunette straddling the patients waist, he couldn't believe his eyes. "TORRES." He yelled louder getting her attention.
"You better thank your god for Derek." She looked down at the stricken woman. "You even think about coming near her or my baby again.. You will die." She said, jumping off the blonde. Realization hit her in the face when she looked up at Derek and then back to the helpless woman. Bending over to catch her breath, it hit her how she literally tried to kill Erica. Callie wasn't that type of person, but when someone is pushed to the limit for so long all bets were off.
Gasping for breath, Erica tried kicking Callie when she retreated now that she had some protection from Dr. Shepherd on her side. Missing the brunette, her legs swung a little too far over the edge of the small gurney with enough force that bed toppled and crash to the floor. "Argh..." She yelled hitting the floor, still attached to the bed.
"When will you learn, don't fucking mess with me." Callie said, kicking the turned bed.
"Callie go." Derek pointed to the door. "Take a walk, now Torres before you get your ass arrested." He yelled, wanting her to leave before the cop came.
Hurrying out of the room, she quickly made her way back upstairs to the maternity floor. Searching through every door she passed, Callie looked for her wife. If no one would show her to her room, she would find her herself. Hearing a door at the end of the hall open, she looked up to see Addison coming out.
Quickly shutting the door behind her, the red head cleared her throat as Callie ran up to her.
"How is she?" Callie said, bypassing Addison and walking towards the room.
"Callie." She blocked her. "Let me talk first."
"No! Why does everyone not want me to see her?"
"Mark's in right now stitching her up. She had a small cut from the scalpel and she needs a few stitches."
"The baby?" She said, her eyes re, swollen and glistening with new tears while she clenched her hands open and closed trying to take away the sting from punching the perpetrator.
"She's fine, both will be fine." Addison ensured her.
"Oh god." She sighed, letting out a low sob. "She's okay? Her and the baby... they're fine?" She nodded her head needing more confirmation.
"They are. I gave her something to relax her so she'll sleep probably the rest of the night. I want to keep her here just to keep an eye on her and the baby. With all the stress she's been in, I'm slightly worried she'll go into early labor and we want to avoid that."
"Can I.." She swallowed. "Please.. can I see her?"
"Yes, but remember, she won't be able to move for a while. I'm not exactly sure how long."
"She can't move at all?"
"She can move her head."
Closing her eyes, Callie took a deep breath. "Oh Addie, what has she ever done to make someone want to hurt her so badly." It wasn't really a question, it was a thought that had been running through her head for the past hour or so.
Addison had been trying to keep up her doctor charade while she worked on the blonde, but now seeing how stricken Callie was, it was taking all she could not to cry for her friends. "I don't know Cal." She said, placing her hand on the brunettes shoulder. "She's been asking for you." She nodded her head towards the door. "She needs rest."
"Okay." Callie said, trying to wipe her tears away. Taking a deep breath she opened the door only to be startled by Mark leaving the room.
"She's sleeping." He whispered, holding his finger up to his mouth. "She's okay, but she's been mumbling your name for the past few minutes."
"Okay." Callie walked passed him and looked to the bed at her frail wife, hearing the door close behind her. Seeing the blonde lying on the bed gave her a small sense of relief, but it also caused all her emotions she had been feeling to come bubbling up to the surface again when she realized how close she was to loosing her baby and possibly her wife. Doubling over, she let out a loud sob, quickly, she covered her mouth so to not to wake her wife as she let her grief take hold of her.
Arizona was just starting to fall in a light sleep when she heard the familiar sound of her wife's cry. "Calliope.." She whispered, not able to raise up and see if she was only hearing things. "Oh, Callie.." Her voice trembled.
Hearing her wife call her name, Callie stood up and quickly pulled herself back together. "I'm here." She wiped her eyes. "I'm here baby." Walking up to the side of the bed, she saw her still slight bloody and red nose. "Oh, Arizona." She cupped her wife's cheek as her fight with her tears took over yet again. "Oh sweetie." She gently touched her. "I'm sorry." She shook her head. "I'm so sorry this happened to you."
"Callie." Her lip started trembling when she finally felt the soft touch of her wife she had been needing.
"I'm here." She said, carefully climbing up in the bed with her wife. "I'm here, baby." She gently laid her head on the blondes chest.
"Callie.. I'm..."
"Shh... No. Not yet, please.. just let me feel you in my arms for a minute. I need to feel you to know that you and Charlee are okay. Okay?" She said, her voice breaking. She knew they couldn't go back into her old habits of holding things in because this would destroy her if she did, but she still needed a little bit to collect herself Wrapping her arms around her wife, she closed her eyes and cried.
"Okay.." Arizona's voice cracked as the tears started falling from her eyes as her wife clung to her for dear life. "I can't move, Calliope."
"I know... I know." Callie raised up and brushed the blondes hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead. "Oh, Arizona." Callie weeped, burying her face in the blondes neck. "I thought you were gone." She sobbed. "I thought I lost you."
"I was so scared." She admitted.
"I know honey.. I know."
Several had minutes passed and the only sounds that were heard in the room were ragged breathes and cries of both woman. "She was going to kill me Callie." Arizona cried after her wife had loosened her hold on her to prop herself up to gaze at her. "She told me.. she said... I was going to die and... she was going to take our baby." She said in between her own sobs.
"She can't now sweetie." Callie pulled her head to her chest. "She can't hurt you or Charlee." She soothed her.
"Will you..." She sniffed into her wife's chest. "Will you move my hand to my stomach, I just.." her voice broke again.
"Shh.." Callie grabbed her wife's left hand and placed it on her stomach. "Addison has the heart monitor plugged up." she reached over and turned the sound up some so her wife could hear it. "She's okay baby.. she's okay." She laced her hand with her wife's as they waited for the baby to kick in the blondes stomach.
"Arizona?" Callie whispered after a few minutes.
"Yeah?"
"What happened?"
"She stopped by right after you left." She shook her head recalling the moment. "She said she wanted to drop off a gift because she didn't get to make it to the shower."
"Wait... she wasn't even invited. Aria showed me the guest list before everyone came and she wasn't asked to attend. How did she know?" Callie asked herself.
"She said she was in a surgery and she couldn't make it so she dropped it off and then she said she needed to talk to me. The next thing I know I fell in her arms and she laid me on the floor. I didn't know what she was going to do at first but then she.." Arizona whimpered, tears still falling out of her eyes as Callie tried to smooth her. "She said if her and Lauren couldn't have what they wanted.. they would take what we wanted."
"What.." Callie leaned up. "Lauren? She was in on this?"
"Callie.." She paused. "Erica was the one who had Lauren to apply for the position at the clinic."
"What?" Callie was shocked. She knew Lauren was no good, but she never suspected that she'd do something this low, but then again she'd never think Erica would either even after everything.
"They were going to steal our baby right out of my body." She turned her face back into her wife's chest.
"I've heard enough for now." The brunette held her tight.
"Our boys?" She mumbled into caramel skin. "Are they okay?" She sniffed. "They're just babies Callie."
"I.." She sighed. "I don't know." She felt bad that she didn't even bother to check on them, but her wife and baby was her main priority. "Lexie called the vet."
"They can't.."
"Shh.. you need rest baby." Callie stopped her. She couldn't take in anymore information right now, she needed to process other things before she could hear the whole story.
Hearing a knock at the door woke them from their sleep a few hours later. Looking up at the clock, Callie saw that it was past 1 a.m. "Co.." She cleared her throat. "Come in." Their family had stopped by after everything settled, but Addison wouldn't let them stay long.
"Callie?" Addison poked her head in. "Officer Owens needs to talk to you both." She said, opening the door to let the man in.
"Officer." Callie greeted him as she stood from her wife's bed.
"Mrs. Robbins." He took his hat off. "Can we have a few minutes to speak to you?" He asked.
"My wife is trying to rest."
"It will only take a few minutes."
"What's going on?" The blonde asked.
"Addie, can we sit her up?" Callie asked, getting the red heads permission.
"Yeah." Addison moved and changed the blondes possion in the bed to where she could see everything. "I'll be outside of you need me."
"Please tell me what is so important that you have to come here this late at night!" Callie asked, wiping the tiredness out of her face.
"Well as you know, Hahn has received medical attention and is now in custody at the county jail for the time being."
"I'm aware."
Nodding. "After Dr. Robbins told us what had happened, we put out an APB out for a one Lauren Boswell and just about an hour or so ago we got a call from SeaTac saying Airport Security had detained her."
"She was fleeing." Callie said, putting her head in her hands. "They were really going to do this weren't they?" She looked back up and covered her mouth at the thought.
"From what we found in her car, it looks as if they've been planning it for months."
"What did you find?"
"It's not important right now."
Hearing her wife stifle a whimper, she reached for her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze, forgetting the blonde still couldn't feel yet.
"I'm sending some of my men over to pick her up."
"Do you need anything from us?" She asked, standing from her seat.
"Not right now, no. I just wanted to inform you of what was going on."
"Thank you, Officer Owens." She shook his hand. "But from now on, if you have anything else to say regarding this matter please inform our lawyer or my father. I'm sure both will be getting in contact with you soon."
"Yes, Mrs. Robbins." He nodded. "Dr. Robbins, I wish you and your baby well." He said before disappearing out the door.
"Thank you."
Turning down the lights, Callie then turned on the small TV for noise so their minds wouldn't wonder during the night. Climbing back in bed, she cuddled up next to her wife, wishing the blonde could do the same to her.
"Calliope.." Arizona whispered after she got comfy.
"Yeah babe?"
"My toes.. They're tingling."
"They are?" Callie quickly rose up from the bed again and pulled the covers back off the blondes feet to touch the tips of her toes. "Your feet are cold."
"But are they moving?" She sounded hopeful.
Callie's smile faded when she didn't see her wife's toes move. "No." She sighed. "Can you feel this?" She ran her finger nails over the bottom of her wife's feet.
Gasping. "Yes.. stop." Arizona tried to move her legs away.
Laughing because she knew the blonde was extremely ticklish in her feet, the brunette breathed a sigh of relief. "You're feelings coming back, sweetie. Just give it time." She bent done and kissed her toes.
"Did you just kiss my feet?"
"Why yes, yes I did!" She chuckled for the first time in hours. "I told you earlier today, I'd kiss the ground you walk on."
"Come back here, Calliope." Arizona whispered, wishing so badly she could reach out and comfort her wife. She knew the brunette needed coddled just as much as she did right now. "Raise my arm and lay down." She said.
Soon as her wife asked, Callie snuggled into her side. "Must have been hard on you, huh?" She whispered at she kissed the brunettes head.
"My whole world collapsed right in front of me." She whispered, thinking back to when she first pulled into the driveway. "I went crazy on everyone."
"I'm sure I would have too, but I'm okay."
"I know..." She stared off at the wall, thinking about the events that happened that night. "I know."
"We're all okay." Arizona reassured her.
Closing her eyes right, Callie nodded her head as tears began to fall as she held onto her wife. "We're okay." She whispered.
Yey, Arizona and the baby are okay.
TGIT! I can't believe there is only 2 episodes left in Season 11!
