Chapter 104

It wasn't long after Callie got Arizona settled in bed that Addison had showed up to do an exam on her wife to see how things were progressing. The blonde was still only at one centimeter, just as she was a few days ago at her last doctors appointment. After checking Arizona, the doctor told the expecting moms that labor could go either way. It could be a slow progress and then suddenly turn on a dime and the baby be here within an hour or so, but seeing it was her first birth she informed them that they could be in for a long night and day.

"How you doing?" Callie asked her wife after she took a seat in a chair next to the bed after the red head left.

Taking a deep breath, Arizona only nodded her head at her wife's question. She was scared, tired and yeah a little embarrassed of her little outburst several minutes ago.

The brunette watched as her wife gently caressed the pad of her thumb over her thigh over and over and over again. It was something the blonde would do when she was nervous or deep in thought. "Hey?" Callie grabbed her hand. "So, do you want to make a bet?"

"Hmm?"

"I said do you want to make a bet?" She wanted to try to take her wife's mind off everything.

"Sure, whatever you want."

"Honey." Callie said, standing from the chair. Letting the bedside railing down, she sat on the edge of the mattress. "Talk to me. What's bothering you?" She asked, taking her wife's hand.

"Nothing."

"Babe?" She glared.

Why couldn't she get anything past Callie. "I did something stupid yesterday while you were at work and now I regret it." She sighed.

Knitting her eyebrows together, Callie was confused by that statement. "Explain please?"

"I watched YouTube video's of women giving birth and..." She shook her head.

"And..." Lowered her head to meet her wife's eyes.

"What if I'm like some of those women. What if I... poop on myself?" She whispered like there was someone else in the room and she didn't want them to hear.

Chuckling, Callie couldn't help but laugh at the image, but it was totally an understandable fear. What grown adult wants to admit they shit themselves even if it was during child birth. "Don't laugh. It could totally happen." Arizona whined, taking her hand out of her wife's.

"Hey." Callie grabbed both her hands again. "It can happen, but you won't be the first nor the last. It's a common occurrence."

"But how mortifying would that be? I don't want you to see that. And Addison.. she's my doctor and one of our best friends. If I do it, every time I see Addison I will remember that she saw me shit myself."

"Arizona." She really tried to reign in her grin, but she was failing miserably. She didn't know what to say to that because she probably would be mortified too. "Well..." Callie paused, trying to think of something. "If it'll help, I'll shit myself too."

"Callie." The blonde giggled.

"I'm serious." She shrugged.

"The bad thing is, I know you are." Arizona said reciprocating the touch of her wife. "That's real love right there. If you're willing to do that.. Wow." She grinned. "I love you, Calliope." She said, running her index finger over the brunettes cheek.

"I love you too, Arizona." Callie said, kissing her knuckle.

"Lay with me?" She said, scooting over in the bed. "I could really go for your snuggles right now."

"Say no more, love." Callie said, taking her sweatshirt off and throwing it in the chair she just vacated. Settling on her side next to her wife, she gently caressed the blondes stomach. "Oops.." She said, accidentally pushing the fetal monitor. Moving it around until they heard the blaring of their little girls heartbeat fill the air again. "I love this sound."

"You have from day one."

"I have." She agreed.

"Tell me about this bet." She leaned her bed back after Callie laid beside her.

"I was just trying to get your mind off everything." The brunette said laying her head down next to hers on the pillow.

"You're doing a pretty good job now." Arizona said, softly caressing her wife's arm that laid across her stomach. "What was your bet?"

"We make a bet on what the baby will look like."

"A bet on what our baby looks like?" She chuckled as the brunette nodded her head. "That's terrible... but what does the winner get?"

"The winner gets to hold her first."

Shaking her head, "You know you'll hold her first, but you're on." She laughed. "I say she'll have beautiful chocolate brown eyes, dark skin and dark brown hair."

"That would be a good looking kid." She laughed. "I say she'll have... Sandy blonde hair not as light as yours. Her skin tone would be in between ours. Blue eyes to die for and dimples that would stop you in your tracks, just like her mama."

"She's going to be beautiful either way.." Arizona closed her eyes as another wave pain went through her abdomen. "Mmmm.."

"It's okay." The brunette raised up. "Just breathe babe." Callie rubbed her thigh as the discomfort went through her wife.

"It's not bad." She took a deep breath. "I'm just scared when it starts it's going to become really painful, but so far it's still tolerable." She said, relaxing back on the bed again after the pain subsided. "Oh my god, Callie." Arizona's eyes went wide as something popped in her head.

"What?"

"I'm going to kill you."

"Why?"

"I just realized why Addison snickered when she did my exam. I still have that damn heart on my vagina. You promised to get rid of it." She rose up in the bed.

"We were going to do that tonight along with your little pedicure, but you just had to go in labor." She laughed.

"This isn't funny, Calliope."

"It kinda is."

"You need to go find a razor or something."

"Oh come on, she's saw you already so why does it matter." Callie laughed.

"Because, my mother and your mother have plans on being in the room when Charlee's born and I don't want them to see it. Oh.." She remembered. "I have a razor and gel in the overnight bag I think."

"You're serious?"

"Yes."

"You're killing me woman!" The brunette groaned when she got out of the bed. "All of the stuff is out in the car, I'll have to go get it." She said, slipping on her shoes that she had discarded before getting in the bed with her wife. "Anything else you need while I'm gone?"

"Well, I would say a shot of tequila to relax me, but I don't think that's prudent right now." Arizona covered her face with her arm.

"Yeah, I don't think so either." Callie giggled. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm just tired."

"I'll fix you up and then we need to get some rest. You heard Addie, we're in for a long night."

"Yeah, but it'll be all worth it. Right?"

"Absolutely." Callie agreed. "I'll be back in a few minutes, honey." She said caressing the bottom of the blondes leg.

"Don't take long, Callie." She didn't want to be alone when another contraction started.

"I'll be quick babe. Just lay back and try to rest."

"You know, I only trimmed you a few days ago and you need it again." Callie said as she prepared her wife for grooming. She had ran out to their Land Rover and gathered their bags before the blonde even realized she was gone. The brunette basically jogged the whole way outside and back to the room because she didn't want Arizona to be in pain by herself. Five minutes after she had left, the blonde was just starting to feel another wave of pain as she made it back into the room. Dropping the bags by the door, Callie rushed to her side to help her through the contraction.

"Will you just quit talking and do your job please?"

"All of it or just give you a landing stip?" She laughed.

"I..." Arizona didn't really know. She had never shaved it all off before. "Whatever you want, just as long as there is no heart."

"Well, since we're at it, why not just get ride of it all? Then I can see what I like best." She winked at the blonde as she began to shave her before Addison or Meredith came back to examine her wife.

"Well, all I can say is you better enjoy this because after today your days are over."

"Wha.." Callie looked up at her. "I don't think so, this is my new favorite thing to do."

"It may be, but I can do it myself after tomorrow." The blonde said as her wife continued to shave her.

"No way. I'm not saying I have to do it every time, but I still want to do it." Callie said, leaning closer to her wife's core as she maneuvered the blade carefully.

"Good lord, I'm never going to win this one am I?"

"Nope. If you do me once, you'll never want me to do it again."

"Well, I'm definitely going to have to give it a go then." Arizona said as she watched her wife's tongue slip out between her lips. Meaning the brunette was concentrating on her task. She often wondered if Callie did the same when she was in surgery. She had tried to pay attention the few times that she assisted for her wife but her mask hide it too well. "I know you want it, but keep that tongue in your mouth missy." A small laugh escaped her lips.

"I love you so much, but I'm sorry babe. I definitely don't want it right now." She winked. She wasn't going to lie, she totally turned off by what she was doing right now.

"Knock knock.." Barbara said as she and Daniel entered the room, seeing their daughter in law between their daughters spreader legs. "It's been over thirty years, but I don't recall a razor and shaving gel ever being involved in child birth." She teased when she saw the shocked faces on both the women's faces.

"Mama!" Arizona said, throwing the cover over her thighs. "Can you guys give us a minute?"

"Of course dear, we'll go get us a cup of coffee." Daniel said, placing his hands on his wife's shoulders to turn her around.

Ten minutes later, the older Robbins were at the door of their daughters room again. This time they knocked and waited until Callie answered the door. "Sorry." The brunette said, welcoming them in the room. She had just finished putting away all the items she had been using.

"How are you feeling bug?" Daniel asked walking further in the room, seeing his daughter sitting up in the bed.

"I'm okay." Callie knew the 'okay' meant she was anything but okay right now.

"Contractions?" Barbara asked, sitting down in the chair next to her daughter and grabbing her hand.

"Yeah, but they're still far apart. Addison said it'll probably be a long night." The blonde said as her wife sat down on the end of the bed.

"So we'll probably have a grandbaby in less than twenty-four hours." Barbara said giddily.

"Unless it was like your labor with Tim. It took you thirty-eight hours to have him." Daniel said, causing Arizona to look up nervously at her wife.

"It's okay." She mouthed to the blonde. "Addison said were looking at sometime tomorrow. She's hoping once Arizona starts dilating she'll go quick." Callie said, rubbing her wife's feet, trying to keep her calm.

"I hope so."

"It's going to be a while before anything happens." Arizona told her parents. "If you guys want you can go get some sleep at the house."

"You sure? Your father can go rest and I can stay sweetheart." Barbara caressed her daughters head.

"I'm sure Mama, if you don't rest now you'll be exhausted by the time.. the baby gets here." She hesitated, remembering not to say Charlee's name. No one except the expectant mothers and of course Richard Webber knew what the baby was going to be named. Arizona wanted it to be a surprise for her mother since that was what her fathers name was. "You guys get some sleep at the house, Callie and I are going to try to sleep too."

"You'll call if anything happens?"

"Of course."

Arizona's parents stuck around for a little while later until the blonde decided she was going to try to get some rest. After the elders left, Callie crawled up in the bed and laid behind her wife. She had worked a good five or six hours on the tree house with Daniel earlier in the day and she was exhausted. Truth was, she would have killed to be home in her bed but there was no way she was leaving her wife.

Neither woman got much sleep throughout the night. About two hours after they laid down to rest, Arizona's contractions started becoming more painful, lasting longer and becoming more frequently. During that time, Callie stood by her wife's side, trying to help the blonde through each breath. Arizona started complaining with her back hurting as the night wore on, so Addison had the brunette rubbing her back in between contractions. They decided to wait on calling Barbara and Daniel because she was only dilated four centimeters at six in the morning.

Callie's parents, sister and grandma had packed their bag and flew out to Seattle as soon as the brunette had called. The Torres' finally made it to Seattle sometime after four a.m. After Lucia talked to her daughter, she insisted to go to their house to get a few hours sleep before spending the day at the hospital.

By nine that morning, everyone had came by the room to be with the women. Carlos and Daniel mainly kept to the waiting area, coming in every so often to check and make sure Arizona or Callie didn't need anything. Every once in a while they'd come in with a drink or a small for the brunette because they wanted her to keep up her strength for when Arizona needed her most. Aria, Maria, Barbara and Lucia were deep in a conversation, too busy talking about the expected baby to pay any attention to the blonde who was going through another labor pain as her wife helped her through it.

Grabbing ahold of the bed rails, Arizona took a few staggering breaths as the pain became stronger and strong. "That's it babe, deep breathes." Callie talked her through as she watched her wife fight through another long contractions.

"It hurts.." Arizona growled through her teeth.

"I know.. I know.." She tried to soothe her as she kept an eye on the machine beside her. "You are doing so good baby. It's almost over." The brunette held her wife hand and rubbed small circles on her back with the other one. "I'm so proud of you." She said, trying to keep the blondes spirits up.

"I change my mind." She breathed after the pain started to subside.

"About what sweetie?"

"This baby.. you can have the first one." She said, leaning back on the bed and covering her eyes with her arm.

"Arizona, I think it's nine months too late for that." She chuckled.

"Are you laughing at my pain?" Arizona asked, taking her hand out of her wife's.

"Wha... no." Callie said as they heard the heartbeat of the baby start to go down. "Honey, roll on your side a little. Addison said you needed to switch positions when her heart rate drops." She said, helping her wife move to get the baby's heart rate back up. When the steady sound of the baby's heartbeat blared through the room, Arizona leaned back against the bed and let out a sigh as she tried to get a few minutes of sleep before her next contraction would wake her up.

"So Callie, how did Arizona's water break?" Maria asked when the brunette sat down in the chair beside her wife's bed.

Callie hadn't expected to have to answer this question and she sure as hell wasn't about to tell anyone let alone her mother or mother in law hear her wife's water broke while they were in the middle of sex. Yeah, it would be a funny story to tell, but also and embarrassing one. "Uhh... she was.." She stuttered, looking over to her wife who had her face half buried in the pillow as she tried to rest a little. "She.. ahh.. we were.." She scratched her head, trying to think of what to say. "We hadn't been in bed long when her water just broke." She shrugged.

"Mmhmmm.." Maria watched as she stood from her seat and walked over to the blonde. She knew her granddaughter was lying. She could always see right through her lies. The older Latina could tell when Callie started mumbling that they were probably doing something sexual, but she decided to stay quiet for once. She didn't want to tease her granddaughter right now because she was already nervous enough and this was one of the biggest days of her life. "You are doing so well, Arizona." She said, rubbing the blondes arm. "Most women would have already thrown their spouse out of the room and be hyped up on drugs already."

"Well, I already told her she could try to kick me out, but I wasn't going anywhere."

"Drug.. I want drugs." Arizona breathed, she had tried to keep quiet about her pain, but it was getting to the point now where she would whimper every few seconds even when the contractions had eased up.

"You heard Meredith, honey." Callie knew her wife was hurting and she wished there was something she could do, but right now she just hadn't progressed enough. "Not yet."

"I can't do this much longer."

"You can, sweetie. I know you can." The brunette stood from her seat when she saw tears run down her wife's face.

"No, I can't." She shook her head.

Turning around, Callie addressed their guests. "Can you all give us a few minutes please?" She asked her family. Receiving nods, the two moms left with Maria and Aria who had been taking pictures every second it seemed.

"You didn't have to make them leave."

"I did. You're hurting and you're hiding it. Why sweetie?" Callie stepped up to the head of the bed and brushed the blonde hair out of her face.

"Because if I let the pain take over I'm going to get hateful and if I see them look at me the wrong way I'll blow up and kick them out."

"Arizona, you are in labor sweetie. You are, not them. They've been through it before, they know if you're being hateful it's only because your irritable and in a lot of pain. They won't take offense to it."

"It really does hurt, Calliope."

"I know baby." Callie leaned down face to face with her wife. "It's okay to cry if you're in pain."

"I don't want too." She shook her head. "I just want you to hold me, but you can't."

"Yes I can too." Callie said, letting the railing down on the bed. "Sit up a little." She helped her wife adjust so she could sit in behind her.

Now Arizona was sitting between the brunettes legs. Leaning back, she let out a soft sigh when she felt her wife's arms around her. "See.. I'm right here." Callie said when Arizona searched for her wife's hands. "Just relax baby."

"Oooo..." Arizona moaned when she felt another contraction coming on. Lacing her fingers with her wife's, she clenched them right as the pain rolled through her.

"Come on babe, just breathe through it." The brunette said as the blonde turned her head into her neck and road out the pain. "That's it babe, you're doing so good." She slowly rocked them as Arizona's breathing became even again after several moments, signaling the pain was dying down some. "Hopefully Addison will be back any time to check you and you can get an epidural before long."

"Please get her to come check."

"Honey, she's working. She can't just drop everything because you want her to check you. She'll be back any time." Callie said as she softly caressed her wife's side as her mom and Barbara knocked on the door before poking their heads in.

"Can we come in?"

"Yeah." Callie nodded as they walked in and sat back down. She was now behind her wife, softly caressing her as she waited for her next contraction.

"She okay?" Lucia asked, trying to stay out of the way.

"Yeah." Callie answered as a few low moans escaped between Arizona's lips.

"Well, we saw Dr. Montgomery out in the hall she said she was on her way in." Lucia said.

"Sweetheart." Barbara walked up to the bed. "I know it hurts honey." She grabbed her daughters hand. "But you're doing amazing and before you know it you'll be holding that little baby in your arms." It killed her to see her daughter in pain.

"Thanks mama." She whispered as she relaxed further in her wife's arms. To be honest, just feeling Callie's arms around her made her feel some better.

Hearing another knock at the door, Callie voiced them to come in hoping it was Addison. Seeing it was only Cristina and Meredith Arizona let out a disappointed sigh.

"You don't look happy to see me." Meredith chuckled as she walked further into the room.

"She wanted it to be Addie." Callie chuckled.

"Well she got pulled into an emergency C just now, so she sent me in here to check you."

"Wow River Girl. I really would have thought you would have requested me as your resident instead of Dr. Grey. I'm disappointed."

"Vaginas... aren't your thing Yang." She mumbled in her wife's neck.

"That's true." She laughed.

"Okay Arizona." Meredith said after gloving up. "I need you to lean back okay. I'm going to check you."

"You need me to get up?" Callie asked.

"No, just let the bed back some." She said as Cristina lowered the bed.

"You know the miracle of childbirth sure is a snooze fest." The Korean said as she saw the exhaustion in both women's faces.

"Shut it." Arizona breathed. She was in no mood for jokes of scar attic comments from anyone right now.

Pulling the cover back, Meredith examined the blonde out to see how far along she was. "Are you wanting something for pain?" She asked.

"God yes, please."

"Okay, your at six centimeters right now. If you want it were going to have to do it now because I think we'll be having this baby in the next hour or so." She said, taking her gloves off. "I'm going to go ahead and ask everyone to leave right now because the anesthesiologist doesn't like to have other people in the room while he's administering it."

"I can stay, right?"

"Of course Callie, you can stay."

"He just doesn't like any other distractions in the room. It's a very intricate procedure." And with that Meredith and Cristina were out of the room alone with everyone else except Callie.

"She's coming."

"She is.." Callie said, getting the damp wash cloth off the side table she had for her wife to wipe the sweat off her face.

"No, Ca.." Arizona felt something shift within her. "Callie.. she's coming, I feel her. I need to push."

"Don't honey.. do not push okay." Callie reached for the call button and pressed it several times.

"Can I help you?" A voice blared through the little speaker.

"Yes, we need Dr. Grey and Yang. Now." She said loudly.

"I'm telling you... I really need to push Callie, she's coming." Arizona breathed feeling immense pressure.

"Arizona, baby." Callie said, trying to slide out from under her wife. "You can't, you heard Meredith. You're not ready yet." She said, getting off the bed to check her. Just as she stood up, Meredith waked back into the room.

"What's going on?"

"She says she needs to push." Callie looked up worried as her wife loudly moaned.

"I just checked you five minutes ago, you're not ready."

"I'm. Telling. You." She growled through her teeth. "I feel her, she's coming." She breathed. "Ahhhhh.." she yelled feeling a massive amount of pain.

"Arizona, calm down." Callie rubbed her leg.

"Calm down?" She breathed. "How. Am I suppose to calm down. When I'm getting ready to push something the size of a watermelon. OUT OF MY VAGINA!" She snarled at her wife in between gasps of air.

"I'll check you again." Meredith said, grabbing another pair of gloves. "Just lean back and relax. Do not try to push."

"Oooh... it hurts." She hissed as another contraction started. Callie didn't know what to do. Should she help Meredith or should she just help coach her wife through the pain as she had been doing all along. Seeing Arizona in this much pain hurt the brunettes heart.

"Callie, keep her legs open." The resident broke the Latina out of her thoughts as the doctor watched the very top of the baby's head appear.

"Ari, baby. I know it hurts, but you can't close your legs, honey." Callie was just about in tears when she saw the pain in the blondes eyes.

"Please..."

"Just breathe through the pain, Arizona. Short quick breathes honey." Meredith said as she waited for the contraction to die down. "Callie hit the call button." She said waiting for an answer on the other line.

"It's Yang, what does Roller girl need now?"

"Cristina, cancel the epidural and page Montgomery 911. Tell her to come straight here after her C. I need you and a nurse. She's crowning..."

...

A lot of writers like to skim over the birthing part and I for one am always disappointed when it's only touched upon, so I took my time with this and I hope you guys like it and the next part.
