Chapter 108

Almost a week had past since the women had brought their new addition home. Barbara, Maria and Lucia all stayed with them for a few more days while Carlos and Aria reluctantly flew back home to Miami and take care of business. The grandmothers mainly stayed back when the baby was fussy and the moms tried to sooth her. There was a few times Charlee became fussy and neither Callie or Arizona could seem to sooth the baby. At one point the blonde cried because she said she felt like a bad mom because she didn't know what her baby needed. Finally they asked for help, Lucia had been the one who came to the rescue. The times when the baby seemed unsatisfied, she just wanted to be held a certain way or swaddled tighter. Callie and Arizona both welcomed the help of their mothers because they knew in a few days they were all on their own, so they sat back at times just to rest. Being new moms was a little more difficult than they first thought, but after a few days they seemed to get into the swing of things and by the time Lucia and Maria were ready to fly back home to Miami Callie and Arizona had Charlee on a feeding and sleeping routine.

A few days into being home by theirselves, Callie woke up to the sound of the baby cooing through the monitor, signaling she was awake. Stretching her body, she noticed the time on the clock was just after seven in the morning which meant within the next half hour or so those coo's would soon turn into a feeding cry. Rolling over, she noticed her wife was still sound asleep beside her. Placing a kiss on her cheek, she rose from the bed and went straight to the bathroom. After relieving herself, she quietly walked to their closet to grab a few things and laid them on the bed where she just had been sleeping for her wife to find when she woke up. Exiting the room she made her way down the hallway to check on the baby. Leaning against the door of the nursery, she heard Charlee as she begin to whimper. "Hey. What's the problem here little miss?" Callie said as the infant kicked her legs and arms out as if she was excited to see her mommy, even though that wasn't the reason. "Do you need a new diapy?" She said, lifting her up in her arms. "Oh yes, yes you do." She said, smelling her daughter. "How in the world can a tiny human smell so bad?" She laughed and laid her daughter down on the changing table. "You're just a stinky pot." She tickled her belly before changing the diaper. "I think I should have left that one for mama, Charlee. You're making mommy want to gag." She said, kissing the bottom of her daughters feet. "Okay, fresh diaper and a little rash cream on your red bottom. Check. How about a fresh outfit so you can look pretty for your mama today?" She said, sitting the baby up as she pulled her shirt over her head making her cry. "Hey hey.." Callie whispered. "There's no crying." She said as she picked her up and bounced her in her arms trying to sooth her. "Are you going to be like mama? You'd rather lay around in your underwear all day than wear clothes?" She said as Charlee seemed a little more content. "Do you want to be just a little naked girl?" She asked, laying the upset baby on her chest. "It was either one of two things. You either want to be naked or you want to cuddle with mommy. Which is it you little stinker?" Callie kissed her cheek. "Goodness. What is it about your kisses that I just can't get enough of?" She said as she tried to get the baby to quiet down so her wife could rest at least a few more minutes.

Meanwhile in the master bedroom, Arizona stirred when she heard the beginnings of her baby's cry. Looking beside her she saw that her wife was already up so she snuggled under the covers as the soft sound of the brunette came over the monitor. She laid there a few minutes listening until a box laying beside her caught her eye. Sitting up on the bed, she looked the package over seeing the words 'Mama' written on the top. Smiling, she opened the box and pulled out the tissue paper surrounding a white frame. Turning the frame over. Arizona's heart melted. Callie had took finger paint and painted the bottoms of the baby's feet and pressed them to the canvas to make heart shaped feet, each in different colors and at the bottom right side she had written 'Charlee Maria' and the date she was born. The blonde ran her fingers over the canvas and admired her gift before taking down the picture that hung above her night stand and replaced it with the new painting.

Throwing the gift box to the side, Arizona noticed a tiny gift bag that was hiding behind the box. Opening the present, she saw a small flat box inside. Pulling it from the bag, she opened it revealing a mother mama bird and a baby bird, perched on a branch together in an adorable silver pendant necklace. Pulling a little tag from the inside lid of the box, she opened it and read the words Callie had written.

To my beautiful Mama, love Charlee

Smiling, she ran her thumb over the ink, before closing the little piece of paper and sticking it in the picture frame of Charlee's she had just hung up. Taking the necklace, Arizona walked into the bathroom and stood in front of the bathroom mirror and placed it around her neck while admiring the piece.

Hearing the baby's cry through the speaker by the bed broke Arizona out of her little daze. Finishing up in the bathroom she went and grabbed a little box out of her nightstand and made her way down the hall to check up on her girls.

Poking her head in the door, she saw the two dogs laying by the crib on the floor where they've slept since bringing the baby home. Arizona was thankful of that. she was afraid they wouldn't take kindly to the baby even though they were super protective of her when she was pregnant. The boys weren't the sight she fixed her eyes on. What made her weak in the knees was Callie standing there only in her undergarments, holding a naked whimpering baby to her chest as she swayed and sang to the little girl.

So this is love, Mmmmhmm

So this is love

So this is what makes life divine.

Arizona leaned against the door frame of the nursery and watched as Callie swayed with the baby in her arms. Seeing the love that her wife had for their child radiating through the room like sunshine made her want to just melt into a big pile on the floor.

I'm all aglow, Mmmmhmm

And now I know

The key to all heaven is mine.

The brunette sung, pressing her soft red lips to the baby's temple, not even noticing the blonde staring in the doorway.

My heart has wings, Mmmmhmm

And I can fly

I'll touch ev'ry star in the sky

So this is the miracle that I've been dreaming of.

Callie continues to softly sing, as she noticed a figure out of the corner of her eye. Turning slightly, she winked at the blonde before finishing off the song as the baby calmed in her arms.

Mmmmhmm

Mmmmhmm

So this is love

"The milk bar is open Char." Callie laughed quietly as Arizona walked in.

"I thought you hated singing that song?" She asked, circling her arms around the brunette.

"I do, but I had to improvise when 'Baby Got Back', 'Shoop' and 'Push It' didn't work."

"Ahh, she is her mama's daughter." The blonde said, kissing the baby's head. "What is she doing naked? And why are you almost naked?"

"Well, like you said she's her mama's daughter, so she wanted to be nakey. Didn't you buggy." Callie laughed. "I changed her diaper and she had a little rash. I put cream and a diaper on her, but she still kept wining. So I decided to let that little toosh air out for a bit and she finally calmed down with a little skin on skin contact, but I think she's hungry. She's been searching for the milk spout." She giggled. "I think my collar bone has been sucked on as much as her pacifier has."

"Are you hungry, big girl?" She rubbed her daughters little back.

"Say yes ma'am." She said still rocking the baby on her chest. "Ask mama, baby. Say, 'do you want to hear the song me and mommy made up'?" She cooed.

"Oh lord, what did you do?"

"Let's sing to her buggy, you ready?" She said kissing her hair. "Mama's milkshake brings Charlee to the yard, and she's like. It's better than mommy's, Damn right it's better than hers, I can teach you, But I have to charge." She sung softly as Charlee started to coo in her arms. "See, she loves it." Callie threw her head back laughing.

"Calliope." She Shook her head at her wife. "Don't teach her that."

"Come to mama, baby. I'll keep your little mind pure unlike mommy." Arizona said taking the baby in her arms. "Hey." She said as Callie turned to grab her shirt that was slung across the chair.

"Hmm?"

Reaching out, she grabbed her wife's hand after the brunette put her shirt on. "Happy Mother's Day, Mommy." Before leaning in and kissing red lips.

"Thank you." She smiled. "Happy Mothers Day to you too, Mama." Callie said wrapping her arms around her wife as she held the baby. "I see you found your present from Charlee?"

"I did, and thank you both. I love them." She winked at the brunette.

"Don't thank me, it was all her. She just asked for a little help." She teased. "But seriously." She said, examine the necklace around the blondes neck. "I hope you like it. I didn't know what to get and then the jeweler showed me this Mama bird and baby bird necklace. He said you can even add more in the future."

"I love it Calliope. Thank you."

"You're welcome, honey." The brunette said with one more kiss to her wife before walking to the door. "I'm going downstairs to put some coffee on, I have a feeling I'm going to need it today."

"Can you make me a cup of decaf?" She asked, sitting down to feed the baby.

"You got it babe." Callie said. "Come on boys, potty time." She clapped her hands to get the dogs to follow her downstairs. During the past week, it was hard to get them to leave Charlee's side but she learned quickly they would listen when they had a full bladder.

"Alright, little miss." Arizona said, pulling the box out she had hidden. "This is what you got mommy for Mother's Day." She said, putting the box between the folded up burp cloth sitting in the table beside the chair.

Callie was downstairs making coffee, she went ahead and cooked them a quick breakfast of eggs and toast for them while Arizona fed the baby. When she came back upstairs to the nursery, she saw the blonde was still feeding their daughter. "I made a little breakfast." She walked into the room balancing a plate of food and two cups of coffee.

"Ohh, what did you make?" Arizona scooted over for her wife to sit beside her in the rocker.

"Just toast and eggs." She said, sitting down. "I figured we could just share." She said, offering her wife a bite.

"Mmm.." She said, chewing it up and reaching for her coffee. "God that's good." She said sipping the hot liquid. "I'm just imagining this is full of caffeine."

"You can have a little."

"I know, but if I have a little, I'll have a lot."

"Well then, you can't have a drink of mine." Callie teased.

"Hand me that burp cloth." Arizona said, as she felt the baby release her. "I think someone's had enough breakfast, huh baby girl?"

"What's this?" Callie asked, when the box Arizona had placed inside dropped to the floor.

"I don't know." She lied.

"Mmhmm.." She said handing her wife the cloth before picking up the box. "What did you do?" She grinned as she opened the lid revealing a sterling silver necklace featuring angled open heart pendant engraved with a message 'A mother holds her child's hand for a short while and their hearts forever.' After reading the inscribed heart, Callie looked up at her wife with pouty lips. "I love it." She said, draping it over her hand to admire it.

"Charlee picked it out."

"She did good." She said, putting it around her neck. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Arizona said, kicking her legs up on the footstool.

"So what's on the agenda today? We still going to your mom and dads?"

"Yeah, mama said dinner is at five."

"Sounds good, gives us enough time to just kick back and relax in our underwear all day." She laughed.

"As much as I hate to say it, I think we need to stop by Babies-r-us on the way to my parents house. I need a breast pump, this getting up every few hours is exhausting."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. I know I said I wanted to do it to bond with her, but we've been bonding for the past nine months and you've not got to connect with her in that way yet."

"Well I'm more than happy to feed her, but I don't want you to feel like you need to if you don't really want to pump." Callie said, taking a bite of her toast as she gave her wife a bite also.

"No. I want too. Not that I don't love feeding her." Arizona said, as she moved the baby to her shoulder to burp her. "But I'd love to sleep for more than two hours at a time."

"Well, we'll stop by and see what they have." She said as they continued to eat their breakfast.

"Yey." Arizona said, laying the baby down in her lap. "Did you hear that big girl? Your first outing." She giggled, rubbing the baby's belly.

"You're going to grandma's house." Callie leaned over the baby. "So mommy and mama have to get all our love'n now because as soon as mamaw and poppy get their hands on you they won't give you back until we force them." She said as the baby kicked her legs and arms out as if she was excited.

"We'll put on your new dress mamaw bought you. You'll look so pretty for her and poppy." She said, playing with the baby's feet. "Did you send your mom her gift?" She asked Callie.

"I sent it home with my Nana."

"And your Nana's?"

"I sent it home with my mom." She chuckled. "Saved on shipping." She shrugged.

"I think we can afford shipping, Callie." Arizona laughed. "You're mommy's a funny girl Charlee. Do you know that." She said, sitting the baby up. "And when you get a little older, I'll tell you a real funny story of when mommy left me standing on the porch when I was in labor with you."

"Seriously, Arizona?" Callie rolled her eyes. "What part of this never happened don't you get?"

"Callie, you left me standing on the porch." She giggled.

"I am aware, but in all fairness I.." She hesitated. "Who the hell am I kidding, I panicked okay. When I got talking to your mom I just kinda spaced out."

"Freaked the hell out."

"Spaced out." Callie reiterated. "I kept thinking the whole time I was just going to pull the car around for you to get in and I just kept going. It was just habit, going with the motion." She shrugged.

"You were freaking. Admit it." Arizona laughed.

"I will not."

"You've watched several deliveries, hell I helped you perform a c-section."

"Shut up, it's totally different when it's your baby." Callie wined.

"But you were so calm through the Braxton hicks to be all crazy Calliope when my water broke."

"Fine, I was so nervous and I just wasn't thinking anything through. I had a ton of things on my mind that I needed to do before we left and I couldn't follow through with any of them."

"That's why we had a list."

"That list was the last thing on my mind." Callie laughed, draping her arm over her wife's shoulder. "This feels good you know, being a wife and mom."

"Yeah." Arizona sighed in her wife's embrace. "We make one cute baby." She said, as they rocked her to sleep.

"We do."

"I talked to my dad about Erica and Lauren." Callie said after a few minutes, causing the blonde to stiffen slightly when she heard the names.

"What did he say?"

"He said there wasn't going to be a trial or anything. Erica pleaded guilty. Our lawyers worked it out to where she just gets a sentencing. He said she should be going away for a while, she won't get life because she pleaded guilty but she'll be put away for a long while."

"When is the sentencing?"

"In the next two weeks."

"And Lauren?" Arizona asked, intently.

"She insists that Erica forced her to follow along and a bunch of other bull shit. He said that she probably won't get no where near as long as Erica because she didn't necessarily do anything, I think he said she could serve up to five years. He also requested for them to be separated so they're sending her to some place in the Mid-West to serve her time."

"That's a good idea. I could only imagine what Erica would convince her to do once she gets out."

"I don't want to think about that. I just want to focus on you and our amazing little girl." Callie said pulling them tight. "I'm done worrying about others. I want to only worry about you and Char. You are all that matter to me."

"I love you." Arizona turned and kissed her wife's lips.

"I love you too."
