Chapter 3
The Afghanistan sun was beating down on Sergeant Beca Mitchell, Captain Chloe Beale and about a hundred other servicemen and women as they all walked to a large chinook with their clothes sacks over their shoulders, chatting animatedly at the thought of their two week leave back to Britain to see their families, husbands, wives, children etc. Beca was looking forward to various things on her leave. The first was the fact she got to see her family for the first time in seven months, the second was that she could go on a real date with Chloe and the third was their ceremonial parade in which they'd all receive their Afghanistan medals, and to those it applied to, other medals. Beca couldn't wait to receive her medals in front of all those people, especially Chloe, who would, hopefully, be extremely proud of Beca. As if by magic, Chloe's mind was on the exact same thing. Her family, Beca and Beca receiving her medal. She was very proud of the girl she hoped would be her girlfriend. Over the week since Beca had kissed Chloe, they had managed to get very little time together, but their time was spent wandering around holding hands and kissing when they had the chance. Beca had even bought Chloe a new combat knife after the redhead had managed to break hers when she threw it at a cinder block that was underneath her target. Beca hadn't let that one go yet, and laughed for a good then minutes when Chloe told her, until Chloe put her mouth over Beca's which put an abrupt end to Beca's laughing.
The two boarded the huge chopper and put their sacks at their feet, strapped themselves in and looked around, anxious for take-off. "I can't wait to get back to my family" Chloe said and Beca hummed her agreement, "But," Chloe added, "you, Sergeant, have to take me on a real date whilst we have a fortnight on civvy street okay?"
"100% agreed" Beca replied quickly and chuckled at her eagerness. Chloe chuckled too and put her head back into her head rest as the chinook finally got its blades rotating and chucking up dust all around. The passengers felt the chopper rise off the ground and set off to Britain.
It was a 12 hour journey for the passengers, so Beca and Chloe became engaged in conversation about what they should do on their date and where they should go and when they should go on it.
"Well, I think we should spend two or three days with our respective families, so on the first Thursday?" Beca suggested, and Chloe nodded happily.
"Good for me babe" she replied, causing Beca to lean over and kiss her, receiving wolf whistles from various passengers. They both simultaneously raised ther middle fingers and saluted the rest of the chinook, before Beca placed her head on Chloe's shoulder and closed her eyes.
Within an hour, the two were asleep.
"Hey lovebirds!" The man opposite them yelled, waking both Chloe and Beca up, "we're there, thought you should at least wake up"
He was right, the heli was now descending and Beca lifted her head off Chloe's shoulder and massaged her neck, feeling very stiff. She then looked over at Chloe yawning and holy crap, did she look cute when she yawned. Beca grinned and Chloe noticed, asking why she was grinning.
"Because you're a cutiepie of course" Beca told her, making Chloe go scarlet.
"Stop it" she whispered, "you're cute too!"
Beca grinned and felt the chinook touch down, "Home at last" she said, and Chloe sighed contentedly.
"Ooh!" Chloe started, "you're number, I need it, we need to text when we can."
"You're right, here you go" Beca said and pulling a pen from one of her pockets and writing her number on the back of Chloe's hand.
The next hour was madness as they all disembarked the aircraft, had to have their bags checked for firearms and ammunition, went through customs with their passports and then finally get to the departure lounge, where their families were waiting. Beca and Chloe walked through the door to the lounge together, spotted their families, kissed quickly and then ran off to their families, being enveloped in hugs by their parents. Both servicewomen had a brother each, who, instead of greeting their sisters, instantly nudged them with their elbow and asked "So who was that?"
"That, William" Beca said to her brother, calling him by his formal name to show her irritation, "is a girl I'm going to be dating and hope to be my girlfriend, so you're not allowed to go to talk to her yet." Beca's parents looked on disapprovingly, they'd never come to terms with Beca's sexuality, but weren't so bad that they'd prevent her from being happy.
Chloe's answer to her brother's question was very similar to Beca's.
Chloe sighed at Jake, her brother, and replied "Someone I am very attracted to who happens to be attracted to me and I hope will be my girlfriend, so you're not talking to her for a good four months okay?"
"Oh, okayyyy" he replied, faking hurt.
Beca's family began to walk away from the lounge toward their car and Beca looked back to see Chloe looking longingly at her. Beca smiled and blew her a kiss before turning, following her family and getting in the family car, grinning all the while.
"So Beca," her mum asked, "how's it been over there? What's happened since we last saw each other?"
"Err," Beca stuttered, afraid to relive the ordeals she'd been through, she had 3 wives and 2 husbands who wished to see her because she sent their spouses letters home and wished to thank her, "it's been okay. Not seen much action to be honest" she lied, shuffling in her seat a little as the family drove toward their London home.
"So this girl," her dad asked, changing the subject. Beca's dad had spent some time in the army and knew not to ask Beca anything about action as he knew how hard it was. "The one you kissed, who is she and what are we expecting in the future?"
Beca laughed, and decided to choose her words carefully, "Well, we met when I accidentally ran into her, literally, in the mess tent after a bad day and she was really kind. So we became friends and then after I received my promotion and medal, we kissed and agreed to go on a date whilst we're on leave and I'm pretty confident she'll be my girlfriend soon and she lasts longer than my last."
"Well she sounds lovely Beca" her mother weighed in, but her dad's mind was on other things.
"You said promotion, Beca. And a medal. What's that about, tell me everything." He said from the driver's seat.
"Okay, well I was told to go and see the Colonel, who then said that quite a few people had been to see him and told him of my, as he put it, outstanding actions. So he promoted me to Sergeant and awarded me with the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross." She told him.
"WHAT?!" Beca's father asked, "Beca, that's amazing, I'm so proud, well done kiddo!"
Beca beamed all the way home, as did her father.
Just as she got out the car her phone buzzed, a text from Chloe.
It read, "Missing you already babe, can't wait to see you xxx"
Beca smiled at her phone and then suddenly realised how she really felt about Chloe.
Godammit.
Beca Mitchell was already in love with Chloe Beale.
Woo! Chapter 3 done! More to come :)
