LoveWins!

Chapter 114

After their date on Saturday, the two moms rushed home early the next morning to see their baby after another quick round of love making. It was like they were in the throes of a new dating life again. Everything seemed funny and carefree that night. Maybe it was because they had everything they wanted waiting for them at home and their life felt so perfect. They didn't really know, nor did they care. All that mattered was that they had each other and a little baby girl to call theirs.

That Sunday was spent laying around in the theatre room as Callie enjoyed her last day at home with her two girls before returning to work. Just thinking about leaving them for eight hours a day made her heart hurt. She didn't know how on earth she was going to be able to leave them four days a week. Arizona insisted that if she felt the need she too could quit, but Callie insisted that one of them needed to work and make sure things at the clinic ran smoothly even though they trusted Teddy to do it.

Before she knew it, Monday morning rolled around and Arizona was waking her up to get ready for work. "Callie? Babe, wake up." She whispered, nudging the brunette from her sleep.

"No." She mumbled into the covers that was wrapped around her body. "Please don't say it." She whined.

"I'm sorry sweetie..." Arizona said, from her place snuggled behind the brunette. Since she gave birth to Charlee their sleeping arrangements had changed a bit, now the blonde was the big spoon and she was the little. "..but you need to get up. You have an early surgery this morning."

"I don't know if I can do this, Arizona." She turned around to face her wife. "I thought I could. I thought it would be easy, but I was so wrong. This is hard as hell."

"I know, babe." She said, brushing the hair away from her wife's neck. "But you can call and we'll text each other all day. You won't miss a thing."

"But I feel that if I blink the next thing I know she'll be sitting up and then crawling and first words, which will be mommy by the way. I'll miss it all." She pouted.

"Cal, you won't. It's not like you're working like you usually did. You've cut your hours down. You only have to work six to eight hours a day instead of ten and it's only four days a week now." She said, caressing the Latinas side.

"But still.."

"I know honey, but just think. The Fourth of July is in two weeks and you're taking a few days and we're gonna make it a long weekend by flying out to Miami to spend a few days with your family." Arizona said, trying to give her wife something to look forward to. "It'll be Char's first trip to visit her Abuelo, Abuela, and Nana. It's going to be fun."

"I know, but the next two weeks won't be." She sighed into her wife's chest.

"I know, sweetie, I know." She said, trying not to laugh at her pouting wife. Callie was so cute when she whined.

"This should be against the law. No mother should have to work and leave their baby at home." Callie said, as she threw her leg over the blondes.

"Well... I told you, you could quit." Arizona whispered into her neck.

"Yeah, but that's a choice. I want it to be mandatory. No work allowed."

"Okay, you're not allowed to go to work. You have to stay home and take care of us until you're old and gray."

"But I wanna cut."

"You're killing me smalls." The blonde laughed, smacking her wife on the ass. "Get up or you won't be able to feed Charlee before you leave." She said, throwing the covers off her and getting out of bed.

"Ughhhh." Callie groaned, stretching her body. "This day officially sucks ass already." She said, sitting up in the bed. "Something just doesn't feel right." She sat there and looked around the room.

"It's because you don't want to leave." Arizona said, coming back out of the bathroom after emptying her bladder.

"Maybe." She shrugged. She didn't know what it was, but something just felt off. It was like she had dread down in the pit of her stomach. "I'm going to shower before I feed the baby, if I feed her first, I'll never get ready."

"Okay, babe." She walked over and kissed the brunette on top of the head. "I'm on diaper duty. We'll be downstairs waiting on you."

Before her wife even left the room, Callie quickly was in the bathroom starting the shower. Spending ten minutes tops cleaning herself, she hurried and dressed and threw her wet hair up in a bun. She didn't care what she looked like, she'd be in surgery most of the day and she didn't have to impress anyone. 'Maybe cutting my hair short wouldn't be a bad idea also. I would have more time to spend with my babies before work.' She thought to herself as she did a once over in the mirror. Her phone ringing brought her out of her thoughts as she walked back into the bedroom.

Arizona went into the nursery to check on the sleeping infant while her wife showered. After a few kisses and a fresh diaper change, they were both downstairs ready to start their day. Arizona had put the baby in the swing for a few minutes while she went and made her wife a fresh pot of coffee before she had to start her day. As she waited, she went ahead and made Callie a quick breakfast of toast and eggs so she could start her day with a full stomach. While plating the food, she heard her wife walking downstairs while talking to someone.

"Calliope?" Maria asked after a few minutes of simple conversation.

"Yeah?" She answered, scrunching her eyebrows at the sound of her grandmothers sudden voice change.

"I love you sweetheart, remember that." The older woman said over the line. "Para Simpre." (Forever)

Callie couldn't help but hear a bit of sorrow in her voice. The line went quiet for a few long moments before she spoke. "Yo tambiƩn te quiero, Nana. Siempre." (I love you too, Nana. Always.) She said feeling a strange sensation, like her grandma was trying to tell her something without telling her. "Are you okay? You sound.. I don't know.. different. What's going on?"

"Nothing honey. I was just thinking about you and that sweet little one you have, and I just felt like I needed to tell you that. I can't wait to see you all in a few weeks. I need my little Charlee fix."

"I know, Nana, she's so addicting. I can't wait either. And she's wanting her Nana fix too." She smiled.

"Calliope?"

"Yeah?" She paused at the bottom of the steps.

"Will you send me a picture?" Maria asked, causing the brunette to knit her brows. "I miss you all and I'd just like to see you."

"Of course, Nana. I'll send you a picture."

"Okay. I'll let you go. Hug my baby for me." Maria spoke. "Hug Charlee Maria too." She joked.

"I will." Callie laughed at her grandma. She loved how she joked around with Arizona.

"Remember what I said, sweet pea. And don't be sad."

"I'll remember, and I'll try my best" She said, thinking the woman was referring to her first day back at work. "I love you, Nana. We'll FaceTime with you tonight, okay?"

"I love you too, sweetie. Take care of my baby Calliope. Always look after your girls, you'll need them."

"I will, love you."

"Goodbye, Calliope, I love you." Callie heard as she hung up the phone and walked into the kitchen where she heard her wife.

"Who was that?" Arizona asked pouring her a cup of coffee.

"It was my Nana." She confusingly said sitting her phone down.

"That's random for her to be calling this early." She said, handing the brunette her cup of joe.

"Yeah." Callie was still replaying their conversation in her head. "That was odd."

"Odd?" She questioned. "What did she want?"

"Nothing really." Callie shrugged. "She wanted me to give her baby a hug." She turned to go get the baby who was swinging away in her swing by the living room entrance. "She also said to give Charlee one too." She winked, walking back into the room.

"I think she loves me better than you." Arizona smiled as she sipped on her decaf coffee.

"Probably." Callie chuckled as she grabbed the bottle Arizona had ready for her. "Not that I blame her though." She smiled, and went about feeding their daughter before she left for a long agonizing day of work. Spending about thirty minutes with Charlee and her wife, she took a quick picture of all three of them cuddled on the couch to send to her grandma before heading out the door.

"Say, bye bye mommy." Arizona said as she and the baby walked out on the porch to see the Latina off to work.

"I don't know if I can do this." She turned back after getting down the steps.

"We'll talk and text all day. Won't we baby." She rocked the little girl in her arms as she saw the brunette's eyes well up with tears.

"It doesn't make it any easier." She said, wiping her eyes.

"You'll forget about us as soon as you get that scalpel in your hand and then by the time you look up it'll be time to come back home to us."

"I'll never forget about you or her." She sighed. "I'll miss you both."

"We'll miss you too, babe." Arizona said, walking down the steps to meet her wife. "Have a good day." She leaned in to kiss the brunettes red lips. "I love you."

"I'll try." Callie pouted, leaning down to kiss the baby one more time. "Mommy loves you so much, Mija." She whispered to the sleeping child in her wife's arms. "I love you too, Mama." She leaned in to kiss pink lips one more time.

"Bye babe, be careful."

"I will. I'll text you as soon as I have a free minute." Callie finally turned and made her way to her car.

Arizona stayed outside on the porch and watched her wife as she started to back out of their driveway. "Bye, I love you." She waved before pulling into the street.

"Okay, big girl, it's just you and me kid. Mommy's gone to bring home the bacon, so what should we do today? You think we should surprise her with lunch?" She turned and walked back into the house after her wife's car disappeared down the road. "I do too, I already miss her." She sighed.

Callie groaned, stretching her back and neck after she came out of the scrub room for the third time today. Looking at her watch, she sighed when she noticed it was only lunch time. Pulling out her phone, she looked to see if she had any missed calls or texts from her girls. She could literally breakdown crying right now because she missed them so much. After seeing she had nothing new she shot off a quick text to her wife, hoping she could talk to her or even Facetime so she'd be able to get through the day.

- I miss you so much! :( Do you have time to talk? This day has been hell just knowing your not in the building. - XO Cal -

This was her first day working without her wife employed at the clinic.

- I miss you too, babe. I'm sorry, but I'm busy. I even planned on coming in to have lunch with you, but Charlee has been fussy all morning and she's not gave me a second to even look up. Talk later? - XO Arizona -

Reading the text her wife automatically sent back, she sighed and sent her a quick reply back before slipping it back in her scrub pocket.

- Oh, yeah sure. - Callie -

Taking a deep breath, she felt the tears spring to her eyes when her wife said she couldn't talk right now. It was absolutely killing her to be away from them. Deciding to skip out on lunch, she headed to her office to sulk on the couch for the next hour and a half until her next surgery.

Arizona walked into the front door of the clinic with her baby asleep against her chest as she carried a bag filled with Callie's and her lunch in her free hand. No one at first noticed the blonde woman until she walked past the front desk instead of stopping at the front window to sign in.

"Excuse me." Kepner said, when she saw the figure walking behind the nurses station. "Oh god." She jumped up, noticing it was Arizona. "Dr. Robbins, aww and little baby Charlee." She walked up to the woman carrying the baby in a sling across her chest. Peeking in she saw the sleeping angel against her mothers chest with her pacifier clamped between her gums. "She's so cute. No wonder Callie came in here this morning looking all upset. It must be hard to leave this at home."

"She was upset?" Arizona asked as Teddy walked into the room. Her smile brightened when she saw her friend but truthfully it was the squishy baby in her arms that brought out the grin.

"There she is." Teddy doted. "Come to your auntie Teddy." She said, taking the baby out of its comfortable spot against her mamas chest. "You're so beautiful." She cooed as the blonde smiled, watching her friend take her baby. "You are such a baby doll."

"Callie was upset?" Arizona said as she turned back to the other nurse.

"Yeah." April confirmed.

"Oh yeah." Teddy rocked the baby in her arms. "She came in all red faced and sniffing. She had to be balling her eyes out, she just went straight upstairs to her office without so much as a hello. I was worried at first, but then I remembered that it must be tough leaving this one at home." She said kissing the baby's head. "So we've just backed off and let her just do her thing today."

"Give me that sweet angel." April said, taking the infant in her arms.

"She texted me that she was alright." Arizona said as she thought about her wife. "She said she stepped into doctor mode when she walked into the building."

"She forgot to tell you it was a 'doctor that lost a patient', mode."

"Awe." Arizona said, pouting her lip when she imagined how upset her wife was. She remembered back to how upset she was leaving her all day Saturday and that was only a one time thing and she had Callie with her so she couldn't imagine how upset her wife had to actually be. "Well, I'm hoping to soften her up with a little family lunch." She said raising the bag in her hand.

"She should be getting out of her last morning surgery in the next ten minutes or so." Teddy said, noticing the time.

"Look at you Teds. Staying on top of all the happenings in this building." Arizona laughed.

"I take my new position seriously. I hear all, I know all."

"Sure." Arizona laughed.

"Cute baby, Dr. Robbins." Jackson said on his way through the office, stopping he placed his hand gently on the redheads shoulder and whispered into April's ear before leaving.

"Thank you, Dr. Avery." She said to him as he exited the station on his way to see a patient. "What was that about Kep?" She saw the blush sweep across her face, similar to the way Callie does when she whispered sweet nothings in her ear.

"Umm.. What?" April shrugged.

"Mmhmm.." The blonde couldn't help but smile at her friend. "I saw that blush... I know that blush. I've seen it too many times in my wife's face."

"I don't know what you're talking about." April said as she bounced the baby in her arms.

"It's okay, April. I don't mind you having a relationship with someone at work as long as its professional when you walk in these doors."

"Really?"

"Of course as long as you don't get caught in the supply closet." She looked towards Teddy, who was now blushing.

"Of course, Arizona. I'd never do that at work."

"Or at home." Teddy mumbled with a chuckle.

"Shut up. I'm just waiting for the right one." The red head shot back.

"Is Jackson the right one?" Arizona questioned her, raising an eyebrow at her.

"I don't know." She looked down at the baby in her arms. "I think so, it just feels right. I'm comfortable with him, you know?"

"I do know." The blonde agreed. "I know exactly what you mean. I'm happy for you Kep." She quickly hugged her. "Let me take this little squirt and go find her mommy. We have some cheering up to do evidently." She said, getting help placing her back in the sling. "I'll see you guys later." She said, making her way to the elevator of the clinic. She didn't like taking the car since it was only a floor up, but carrying a baby and food was harder than it looked.

When she rounded the corner to her wife's dark office, she pulled the keys out of her pocket and opened the door. Just as she was shutting it behind her, her phone beeped. Checking the screen, she saw a message from her wife. Placing the food on the desk, she quickly shot her back a text before setting up their lunch she had made for them.

After setting up their meal, Arizona took a seat on her wife's comfy couch and laughed when her wife's next text came through. "Charlee, your Mommy sure is a mopper when she doesn't get what she wants. You know that? She's missing us big time little girl, but I miss her just as much. Mama's not use to Mommy being away, we're usually attached at the hip." Just as she said that, the door was pushed open.

"What the hell." Callie grumbled, seeing someone must have been plundering in her office during her surgeries. "I'm going to kick someone's ass." She walked in, looking down at her phone hoping to get another text from her wife saying she had time to talk. Hearing a sucking noise, her head darted up at the sound. She'd know the sound of her daughter sucking away on her pacifier anywhere. Gasping when she saw her wife and daughter resting comfortably on the couch. "What are you doing here?" She sighed with tears in her eyes.

"Well, Charlee said she thought Mommy needed us, so we're here." She stood up and passed the baby to her wife.

"Awe... Hi buggy. Mommy has missed you so much." She kissed the baby's head. "Hi." She grinned at her wife before kissing her cheek. "I can't believe you came."

"Of course we did." Arizona said, wrapping her arms around her wife. "I just couldn't stand the thought of you being sad."

"I told you I was fine." Callie said leaning her head against the blondes.

"And Teddy and April say otherwise." She said feeling her wife slump her shoulders.

"I tried." She whispered. "It was so hard to leave you two."

"I know, but that's why we're here baby."

"I really missed you."

"I missed you too. So I decided to make us a grilled chicken salad. I hope you're hungry."

"Starving now, thank you." She said, kissing the blonde on the forehead. "Let's eat and then we can snuggle on the couch for a while. I don't have another surgery for close to two hours."

The two women enjoyed their lunch and time together. After eating they all got comfy on Callie's couch as she spent some time with the baby. But before she even realized it, all her down time had passed and she was being paged into her next surgery. This time, it was easier to leave her two girls alone, because there was another little girl that needed her help at the moment.

Arizona packed up everything and her and Charlee were back on their way home after a quick diaper change downstairs in the clinic. That was one thing Arizona loved. She didn't have to pack a diaper bag around on her shoulder when she came. They were fully supplied with enough diapers, wipes and cream to last Charlee until she was potty trained. After going home, she put the baby down for a nap since Callie had kept her awake their whole visit. While seeing the little girl peacefully asleep in her swing, the blonde thought it was a great idea for herself to get some shut eye before she started dinner before her wife came home. Arizona sure was enjoying her first day as a stay at home mom, but it was turning out more tiresome than she had thought to be.

Before Arizona knew it, she was being woken up by some light tickling on the bottom of her feet. It took her a few minutes of fidgeting to realize it was Callie instead of one of the boys waking her from her little nap.

"What are you doing home?" She asked when she raised up and saw her wife standing at the end of the couch.

"My last surgery got pushed. So I decided to come home to my girls instead of crap paper work. I shoved it off on one of the nurses." The Latina said, lifting her wife's legs, and sitting down on the sofa beside her.

"Well, that sucks for the patient, but I'm glad you're home. You should have called, I was going to have dinner waiting on you."

"Awe, I'm sorry. But I've been feeling like Chinese all afternoon. How about we order some after we do a little swimming. I want to get Charlee out in the water."

"Well, let's eat first. That way we give it some time, I don't want her out in the water until the sun goes down." Arizona said, as she checked on the sleeping infant beside her.

"Okay, I'll order us some food and we'll relax and unwind a bit. We can't have her getting a little sunburn on that little tooshie can we?"

After dinner they both quickly changed and headed out back in their yard. Arizona sat on the side of the pool with her legs dangling in the water as Callie swam up to her and took the baby from her arms. Charlee loved her baths, so they knew she was enjoying swimming just as much.

Callie gently dipped the naked girl in the water from her waist down. The slightly cool water causing the baby's eyes to widen slightly in surprise. "Yeah..." She chuckled at her daughters face as she dipped her several times.

Arizona couldn't help but laugh at the expression on the little infants face. "Is that fun big girl?" She giggled, leaning back on her hands as she enjoyed the feel of the cool water on her legs.

They were enjoying their time outside at the pool for a while before Arizona excused herself to go to the restroom. When she exited the downstairs bathroom she heard a knock on the front door. Thanking God she had slipped her sundress on over her swimsuit before heading inside.

"Mama?" She said, welcoming her in. "What are you doing here?" She asked. Not that she minded, but the older woman usually called before she came over.

"I had to come to the city to pick up your fathers prescription and I decided I'd stop by and see that little stinker for a few minutes. I hope you don't mind." She said, walking into the house.

"Of course not Mama, come in. We're just outback. We have her in the pool." She said, leading her mother through the house. "You didn't have to buy diapers." She said, noticing the pack in her mothers hands.

"I did too, I saw them while I was at the drug store and you can never have too many." The woman said, sitting the item down on the kitchen island and she followed her daughter outside.

"Well thanks Mama." She said, as Barbara made a b-line straight to the baby and her wife as Callie's cell phone began to ring. Grabbing the phone, she answered it and went back into the kitchen so she could hear better because they had the radio playing in the background.

"Hello?" She answered, getting a few moments of silence before she asked again. "Hello?"

"Arizona?" The woman said in a hushed tone.

"Lucia? Callie's outside if you give me just a minute I'll get her for you."

"No. No I can't. I can't tell her." She heard the woman stutter.

"Tell her what? Are you okay? You sound a little upset?"

"No, I.. I'm..." Callie's mom hesitated through the line. Arizona could have swore she heard her stifle a sob, but she wasn't sure if it was that or a laugh.

"Lucia, is something wrong?" She asked, feeling her stomach start to turn.

"It's.. It's Maria." She heard as the phone slipped in her hand.

...

What has she done now?
