I've not posted anything on this story for over two years, but I was re-reading the book and decided to post this. There may be a few more chapters in the upcoming days as I attempt to rid myself of all new plot bunnies.

Sometimes, when she is teaching her class in San Diego, she wonders what she will tell future Souls about Earth. She wonders if she will tell them of its brutality, the way that humans attempted to destroy other co-existing species and, indeed, the whole planet.

She wonders if she will tell them about the colours and the sunsets and the ocean breeze on her face, though she will never be able to accurately describe them to a Soul who has not been there.

She wonders if she will talk of their emotions, of the strength of their Hosts.

She thinks not. It says more of her weakness than it does of their strength.
